Homegrown <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">Paytm</keyword> Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) on Wednesday said it has gone live with <keyword id="13424650" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upi-lite" source="Orion">UPI LITE</keyword>, a feature enabled by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for multiple small-value <keyword id="4052276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upi-transactions" source="Orion">UPI transactions</keyword>. It will enable faster real-time transactions with a single click through Paytm. With UPI LITE, the Bank aims to drive the adoption of digital payments across the country. Once loaded, a UPI LITE wallet allows a user to do instant transactions of up to ₹200 in a seamless way. A maximum of ₹2,000 can be added twice in a day to UPI LITE, making the cumulative daily usage up to ₹4,000. Additionally, with UPI LITE, users can carry out a large number of small value UPI payments without worrying about a cap on the number of bank transactions, said the company. "As per official data from NPCI, half of the everyday UPI transactions in the country are less than ₹200 and with UPI LITE, users get superior experience with faster and safer real-time small value payments. We are focussed on driving digital inclusion and the launch of UPI LITE is a big step ahead in that direction," said Surinder Chawla, MD and CEO, Paytm Payments Bank. UPI LITE was launched by the Reserve Bank of India in September 2022. It also de-clutters the bank passbook of small value transactions, as these payments would now only show in the Paytm balance and history section, and not in the bank passbook. "This will further improve the success rate of transactions, enhancing the user experience, and taking us one more step closer to processing a billion transactions a day on the UPI platform," said Praveena Rai, COO, NPCI. Paytm Payments Bank recently announced that users can receive and send money instantly to any mobile number with a registered UPI ID across platforms using the Paytm app. PPBL remained the largest UPI beneficiary bank for 19 months in a row with over 1,726.94 million transactions in December 2022, ahead of all major banks in the country. With 386.5 million registered transactions, the Bank is one of the top 10 remitter banks for UPI transactions, according to NPCI's latest report. Paytm Payments Bank goes live with UPI LITE to boost small-value UPI transactions

With this, users can now link their RuPay credit cards with Google Pay to make payments at all online and offline merchants where RuPay credit cards are accepted. Customers with RuPay credit cards issued by Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank and Union Bank of India will be able to avail this feature. Until the latest update, UPI-based payment app Google Pay, like most payments apps, only supported payments using a debit card. Now, users can add their RuPay credit card and make payments seamlessly to merchants across the country. At present, there is no option to add Visa and Mastercard-issued credit cards to Google Pay or any other UPI payment app in India. According to the central bank, the modus operandi for fraud has shifted to card and internet-based transactions. According to a survey conducted by LocalCircles, people are still storing important financial information such as internet banking passwords, and debit and credit card PINs on their smartphones. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="17% of people store financial information on their smartphone" comment="subhead" text="17% of people store financial information on their smartphone">17% of people store financial information on their smartphone</cmsannotation> Out of over 32,000 people surveyed, 9% admitted to storing important financial information on their phone’s contact list, and 8% admitted using the notes app on their smartphone. A similar survey in 2021 revealed that 11% of people were storing important financial data on their phones, meaning there has been an increase in this number, despite attempts by the central bank to raise awareness among the people. 18% of the people revealed that they store financial information on their computers and laptops. Despite a rise in financial frauds, 17% of people store financial information on their smartphones

Homegrown Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) on Wednesday said it supports and welcomes the proposed implementation of the <keyword id="3880260" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-payments-council-of-india" source="Orion">National Payments Council of India</keyword>'s (<keyword id="193629" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="npci" source="Orion">NPCI</keyword>) <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> market cap. With this, the UPI ecosystem in India will see further growth in a democratised manner, encouraging wider participation and ending the market concentration risk, the company said in a statement. PPBL, which owns <keyword id="6076084" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paytm-upi" source="Orion">Paytm UPI</keyword>, is an NPCI-certified PSP (Payment Service Provider) and Issuer Bank for UPI transactions, and not a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP) and won't come under the purview of NPCI's market cap. The Bank is an Issuer and <keyword id="15597664" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="psp-bank" source="Orion">PSP Bank</keyword> in itself along with being an acquirer of UPI transactions on its own platform and serves the customer end-to-end in a transaction. The Bank continues to lead UPI payments as the largest beneficiary bank and a leading remitter bank. According to the latest report by NPCI, as a beneficiary bank, PPBL has registered over 1,614 million transactions and as a remitter bank, it registered more than 362 million transactions in October 2022. "We believe the proposed implementation of UPI market capping will be hugely beneficial for the UPI ecosystem. This move by the NPCI will bolster the growth of digital payments and democratize it for the citizens, ending market concentration risk. With this, UPI will become even more accessible and enable further digital adoption," a Paytm Payments Bank spokesperson told IANS. The bank is now enabling users to make transactions across all UPI payment apps with just the mobile number, and even if it is not registered with Paytm. With this, users can receive and send money instantly to any mobile number with a registered UPI ID across platforms using the Paytm app. This further deepens Unified Payments Interface (UPI) interoperability and roots for the adoption of mobile payments. Paytm Payments Bank supports UPI market cap, maintains leadership as PSP & Issuer Bank

New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed hope that digital transactions will soon surpass cash with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) increasingly becoming the most preferred payment mechanism in the country. Modi after the launch of the cross-border connectivity between the UPI and PayNow of Singapore said about 74 billion transactions amounting to more than Rs 126 trillion, which is approximately 2 trillion Singapore dollar, was done through UPI in 2022. "Many experts are estimating that very soon India's <keyword id="16596261" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-wallet-transactions" source="Orion">digital wallet transactions</keyword> are going to overtake cash transactions," he said. A large number of transactions via UPI demonstrate that this indigenously designed payment system is very secure, he said. Modi along with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the launch of cross-border connectivity between the UPI and PayNow of Singapore via video conferencing. The facility was launched through token transactions by Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das and Managing Director of Monetary Authority of Singapore Ravi Menon using the UPI-PayNow linkage. Stressing that the linkage of UPI and PayNow is a new milestone in India-Singapore relations, Modi said, this will help people of both the countries to do cross border transactions through mobile phone in an affordable manner. Singapore is the first country with which cross-border Person-to-Person (P2P) payment facility has been launched, he said, adding, this will help the Indian diaspora in Singapore, especially migrant workers/students and bring the benefits of digitalisation and fintech to the common man through instantaneous and low-cost transfer of money from Singapore to India and vice-versa. Pointing out that the focus of the government is to promote innovation and modernisation, Modi said the Digital India programme of the government has enhanced 'Ease of Living' and 'Ease of Doing Business' and digital connectivity and has pushed financial inclusion. The Digital India programme has brought in significant reforms in governance and public service delivery. The linkage will enable users of the two fast payment systems in either country to make convenient, safe, instant, and cost-effective cross-border fund transfers using their respective mobile apps. Funds held in bank accounts or e-wallets can be transferred to or from India using just the UPI-id, mobile number, or Virtual Payment Address (VPA), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a statement. To begin with, the statement said State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Bank and ICICI Bank will facilitate both inward and outward remittances, while Axis Bank and DBS India will facilitate inward remittances. For Singapore users, the service will be made available through DBS-Singapore and Liquid Group (a non-bank financial institution). More banks will be included in the linkage over time. Customers of the above participating banks can undertake cross-border remittances to Singapore using the bank's mobile banking app or internet banking. To begin with, an Indian user can remit up to Rs 60,000 in a day (equivalent to around SGD 1,000). At the time of making the transaction, the system shall dynamically calculate and display the amount in both currencies for the convenience of the user, it said. The UPI-PayNow linkage is the product of extensive collaboration between the RBI, Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), and Payment System Operators of both countries viz. NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Banking Computer Services Pte Ltd (BCS), and participating banks / non-bank financial institutions. This interlinkage aligns with the G20's financial inclusion priorities of driving faster, cheaper and more transparent cross-border payments and will be a significant milestone in the development of infrastructure for cross-border payments between India and Singapore, the statement said. India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing ecosystems for fintech innovation. A key emphasis of the Prime Minister has been on ensuring that the benefits of UPI are not limited to India only but extend to other countries as well. The virtual launch was preceded by a phone call between the two Prime Ministers, wherein discussions were held on areas of mutual interest. How to change UPI pin in Google Pay

It accounts for a major part of online transactions in India. Apart from banking apps, there are several popular third-party apps like <keyword id="6357886" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="phonepe">PhonePe</keyword>, <keyword id="2750705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Pay">Google Pay</keyword>, Paytm and Amazon that support <keyword id="3679109" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPI-payments">UPI payments</keyword>. What is UPI and how does it work?

The <keyword id="394949" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Payments-Corporation">National Payments Corporation</keyword> of India (<keyword id="193629" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI">NPCI</keyword>) on Tuesday said that there has been no data compromise pertaining to the <keyword id="4013165" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="BHIM-app">BHIM App</keyword> and has requested everyone not to fall prey to such incorrect information. In a statement, the NPCI said that it has conducted an independent verification of the recent news, including through a leading Digital Risk Monitoring firm who has reconfirmed that the claims against the BHIM App are untrue. "There is no data leak with respect to the BHIM app," it said. NPCI said <keyword id="4115852" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CSC-e-Governance-Services-India-Ltd">CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd</keyword> was working in 2018 on a project to educate and activate village level entrepreneurs on digital payments and also educating them to create Merchant Virtual Payment Address (VPA). Most of these VPAs were not valid UPI IDs. Moreover, it said that <keyword id="4003296" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPI-ID">UPI ID</keyword> is a virtual ID that is meant to be shared conveniently, instead of real account details. The UPI ID can be used to receive money. The user can simply share his UPI ID with the payer and receive payment directly in his bank account. This is a standard feature used by merchants, who only need to receive money using UPI, it said. Based on the findings from the Digital Risk Monitoring firm, it is ascertained that there is not a single instance of data breach compromising financial details of the customers, the NPCI statement said.

Following his announcement in December 2021, the RBI governor has now delivered the promise of bringing the simplified digital payment service to non-smart mobile phones in India. The UPI payment system was limited to smartphones with internet connectivity till now. While UPI turned out to be a hit for fuelling digital payments in the country, its accessibility to the masses with feature phones was awaited for a long time. “While we have been growing impressively in digital payments, a large part of digitisation is limited to people with smartphones. There are about 40 crore <keyword id="1094150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="feature-phone" source="Orion">feature phone</keyword> users who have limited access to digital payments," said T Rabi Sankar, RBI deputy governor. UPI is a platform developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) together with the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks Association (IBA). It is a platform that brings together various banking services and features in a single app. Users have a unique UPI ID that can be used to send and receive payments using a secure PIN. These payments can be made using a mobile number associated with the UPI ID as well. Digital payment via UPI is not only safe, but it fastens and simplifies the way we send and receive money. It also makes payments seamless for new age app-based food delivery, ride-hailing, e-commerce and similar services. In the calendar year 2021, UPI touched record high transactions, both in volume and value terms. As per <a href="https://www.npci.org.in/what-we-do/upi/product-statistics">National Payments Corporation of India</a> (NPCI), UPI processed more than 38 billion transactions, amounting to ₹71.59 trillion. RBI rolls out UPI for feature phones — you will no longer need a smartphone or internet to make payments digitally

<keyword id="2461546" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fintech" source="Orion">Fintech</keyword> company slice on Wednesday said it has raised $50 million as part of its larger series C round led by <keyword id="526777" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tiger-global" source="Orion">Tiger Global</keyword>, adding that it will use new capital to boost its new unified payments interface (<keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword>) product. The latest funding round also saw participation from existing investors Moore Strategic Ventures and Insight Partners, and a new investor, GMO VenturePartners. The leading credit card challenger last month launched the integration of UPI into its app for all its existing and waitlisted users in a phased manner. "Our next important product launch with UPI has been gaining strong early traction. We are excited about the long journey that lies ahead of us," said <keyword id="4393092" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajan-bajaj" source="Orion">Rajan Bajaj</keyword>, Founder-CEO, slice. By extending UPI services to its 10 million waitlisted customers, the company will now be able to provide them with an equally superior experience.

 The circular highlights how once ‘AnyDesk’ has the requisite permissions, the app allegedly uses its access the confidential data to carry out fraudulent transactions using apps that are based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). India’s lax cybersecurity Earlier this year, on January 10, the RBI <a href="https://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/NotificationUser.aspx?Id=11452&amp;Mode=0">issued</a> a notice alerting developers of payments apps in India to introduce more stringent controls. Even the National Payments Commision of India (NPCI), the umbrella organisation that oversees all retail payments, issued a similar notice asking developers to be wary of what kind of data is being accessed on user’s devices. Indian banks aren’t safe from the onslaught either. Cosmos bank, a Pune-based Indian bank, was <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/cosmos-banks-server-hacked-rs-94-crore-siphoned-off-in-2-days/articleshow/65399477.cms">robbed</a> of ₹940 million because hackers were able to clone Visa and RuPay debit cards last year. The bank assured customers that the core banking system was safe and it was only the payments gateway that was hacked.
