<ul class="summary-list"><li>Federal authorities are investigating how banks reimburse consumers who are scammed on Zelle.</li><li>Lawmakers say the banks behind payment apps need to offer more protections.</li></ul>Scams on payment apps like Zelle are getting so out of hand that federal authorities are starting to investigate.This week, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau launched an investigation into JP Morgan, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo — all part owners of Zelle — after Sen. Richard Blumenthal wrote a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024.08.04-Blumenthal-Letter-to-Chopra.pdf">letter</a> to the agency.The Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations found that reimbursements from the three banks for transactions that Zelle users disputed fell from 62% in 2019 to 38% in 2023, Blumenthal said in the letter."PSI's investigation of the three banks indicates that they provide their respective employees with broad discretion to determine whether a disputed transaction is unauthorized, and, in turn, whether a consumer is entitled to reimbursement," the letter says.Zelle's chief fraud risk manager, Ben Chance, meanwhile, told Fortune that the app is doing everything it can to minimize the risk of scams. He also told the outlet that the best way to prevent scams on money-sharing apps is better user education, sound policy and more funding for law enforcement."The real solution is to focus on the criminals who are perpetrating these crimes across phone, text message, email, digital marketplaces, and social media platforms…and of course, partnering with those platforms, along with financial services and law enforcement in the prosecution and removal of these criminal actors," Chance told the outlet.But even for law enforcement, money lost in a scam can be <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/scammers-trick-woman-publishers-clearinghouse-sweepstakes-2024-4">difficult to recover</a>. On August 2, Democrats in Congress introduced a bill that would give increased reimbursement protections to people who lose money to scams on peer-to-peer payment apps.The Protecting Consumers from Payment Scams Act, proposed by Rep. Maxine Waters, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, would increase financial institutions' responsibility for helping consumers resolve fraud disputes.Consumers can be reimbursed for unauthorized transactions under existing federal law, like purchases on a stolen credit card. However, getting money back after sending it through Zelle or other payment apps is much more difficult.If you accidentally send money to a scammer, <a target="_blank" href="https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-do-if-you-were-scammed#Paid">the Federal Trade Commission</a> recommends asking the company you send the money through if there's a way to recover the funds. If you lose the money through a money transfer app, the agency says to report the fraudulent transaction to the app's parent company."If you linked the app to a credit card or debit card, report the fraud to your credit card company or bank. Ask them to reverse the charge," the FTC says.Zelle did not immediately return a request for comment from Business Insider on Saturday.

Zelle says it's up to the police to stop scams

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Law enforcement worldwide teamed up recently to fight cybercrime. </li><li>"Operation Endgame" led to four arrests and the dismantling of 100 malicious servers globally.</li></ul>In what's been billed as a first-of-its-kind operation, law enforcement agencies around the world recently banded together to take down major <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/cybersecurity">cyber criminal infrastructure</a> that officials said targeted multitudes of victims and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages globally.Over a couple of days in late May, "Operation Endgame" led to the arrests of four people in Ukraine and Armenia, the dismantling of more than 100 malicious computer servers worldwide, and the seizure of over 2,000 domains, according law enforcement in the US and Europe.One of the main suspects raked in at least $70 million in cryptocurrency by "renting out criminal infrastructure sites to deploy ransomware" <a target="_blank" href="https://www.europol.europa.eu/media-press/newsroom/news/largest-ever-operation-against-botnets-hits-dropper-malware-ecosystem">according</a> to Europol, the law enforcement agency of the European Union that conducted the operation along with other agencies, including the FBI.Cybersecurity experts told Business Insider that the takedown is a pivotal step forward in the ongoing war against <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ransomware-attacks-corporations-children-executives-mandiant-google-cyber-security-2024-5">cybercrime</a>. However, they said, the fight can't end here, as cybercrime is one of the biggest threats facing humanity."It's not like this is going to solve the problem, but it's a great step in addressing it," said Adam Wandt, a cybercrime investigations expert and a public policy professor at New York's John Jay College of Criminal Justice.<h2 id="c59c7ca2-3119-4ab7-986e-f21258b45fe3">'Largest ever operation against botnets'</h2>Europol called the sting the "largest ever operation against botnets, which play a major role in the deployment of ransomware.""This worldwide operation, involving law enforcement authorities from 13 countries, led to a significant disruption of criminal activities," Europol spokesperson Ina Mihaylova told Business Insider, noting the effort was also supported by the private industry. Mihaylova called the scale of the operation "unprecedented in the cyber domain."FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement that the agency "used joint and sequenced actions to run a first-of-its-kind international operation and debilitate the criminal infrastructure of multiple malware services."As part of the operation, the law enforcement agencies shut down at least four <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-malware">malware</a> groups or "droppers" known as "IcedID," "Smokeloader," "Pikabot," and "Bumblebee."According to the FBI, these droppers, designed to install malware onto computer systems, "infected millions of computers and claimed countless victims around the world and throughout the United States, including a hospital network, which not only cost millions of dollars but alarmingly put people's lives at risk due to the compromised critical care online system.""This is taking down computer servers, which are affecting all of us," said Wandt, who explained that the hackers behind the botnets are "going for money, and they don't care who they go for or how they get it.""This could be my grandmother sitting at home, this could be a large bank. It doesn't matter," he said.Wandt and other experts said the takedown of 100 malicious servers is a small number when compared to the vast number of servers that run botnets around the globe but that it's nonetheless important."That doesn't mean that it was a small number in the amount of fraud that it was committing," said Wandt.<h2 id="d901e093-99a9-491d-b53d-a08f70169714">Ransomware 'wreaking havoc around the world'</h2>Tracy Beth Mitrano, a cybersecurity policy expert and a visiting professor of information science at Cornell University, called "Operation Endgame" a "significant step," but said "it's not significant in terms of the total scope of the problem.""<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cyberattacks-on-american-cities-responses-2020-1">Ransomware has just been wreaking havoc</a> around the world," Mitrano said. "It's been ripping through the United States."Mitrano emphasized the importance of the US working with other countries around the world to combat cybercrime and called for international law, treaties, and agreements "to establish rules of the road in cyberspace.""The war will not be won until there are international laws and standards that bring countries together," said Mitrano.Mitrano said "Operation Endgame," is a "very important first step, but we have to keep going.""Cyber insecurity is one of the biggest threats we face on the globe today," she said.Thomas Holt, a cybersecurity expert and professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, said the coordinated effort of countries around the globe working to fight cybercrime as was done in "Operation Endgame" is "absolutely necessary.""Cybercrime is such a distributed problem," he said, noting that cybercriminals can target "anyone anywhere with relative ease, and the likelihood of detection is really, really low."So any attempt at cracking down on cybercrime is a positive, Holt said."It's a net gain in terms of complicating networks or forcing short-term behavioral change on the market and the actors," said Holt. "It may not create these long-term sustained drop-offs, but it at least provides a short-term benefit."Holt said he does not believe cybercrime will ever be stopped, "But what I think we can do is produce complexities for the offender, making it harder for them to actually engage in an offense like running a botnet."The "biggest problem" in the malware world, according to Holt, is that there is always a different iteration of malware on the horizon."Over the last decade, it has been ransomware primarily, but there's going to be an eventual pivot away from ransomware to something else," he said. "We don't know exactly what that something else is yet."And <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-cyber-crime-phishing-malware-artificial-intelligence-2023-2">artificial intelligence</a> "will certainly simplify the process" for cyberattackers, said Holt.Cybercriminals "don't have the same degree of difficulty or barriers to entry that we had in the 80s, the 90s, and even the early 2000s," Holt said."Now it's flattened to a point where as long as you have money, you can buy personal data, you buy credit card numbers, rent out denial of service attacks on demand or botnets," he said. "So you don't even need to know what you're doing. You just need to have a cursory understanding and dollars in your pocket."Last month, Wray, the FBI director, pledged the agency's ongoing commitment to combatting cybercrime."The fight against borderless cybercrime does not end here, and the FBI is committed to tackling this ever-evolving threat," he said.

Police around the world teamed up in their biggest effort yet to takedown hackers, but cybercrime is hard to stem

Yes, the tickets were exorbitantly expensive, way above the prices advertised on <keyword id="20215809" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="BookMyShow" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BookMyShow" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="BookMyShow">BookMyShow</keyword> (BMS), the official ticketing partner. But so what? What mattered was that they could finally attend Coldplay's concert. At 12 noon on September 22, when bookings for Coldplay’s 2025 India leg of “Music of the Sphere” world tour had commenced, A was also in line, having logged in since 11:30 am, from 4 different screens and through 6 cousins. But God, and BMS were in no mood to reward her efforts and patience. The ticket sale lasted for a mere few seconds, before the site crashed and all tickets were sold out. Turns out, even the second time wasn’t the charm for them. The first time, too, A had not been able to get tickets for Diljit’s Dil-luminati India tour, which had gone live earlier last month. They had applied for an HDFC Pixel credit card to access the early-bird offer, but it was as if luck was taunting them “vibe teri meri na mildi aa”. could not get tickets for Diljit’s concert as well, which had also vanished within minutes of going live, much like Coldplay's. That’s why, when they saw that tickets for both Diljit and Coldplay were being sold by various Instagram accounts, despite showing as sold out on <keyword id="20496317" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato-Live" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato Live" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato Live">Zomato Live</keyword> and BookMyShow, it seemed magical to A. And per Coldplay, “If you were to ask me, after all that we've been through. Still believe in magic?”, the only acceptable response is “Yes I do, of course I do!” So, they went ahead, agreed to pay Rs 35,000, and bought Coldplay tickets which would’ve cost them Rs 6,450 via BMS. A steep price to pay, but at least they had their ticket to “an experience of a lifetime!”. As it is, the band had announced its retirement post its 12th album, and the band had just launched its 10th album, "Moon Music". <h2>BookMyShow to “fix” scalpers?</h2>But this morning, BMS startled many people like A by stating that unethically sourced tickets (read: tickets not directly booked via BMS) could be canceled. The platform had already filed an FIR to this effect with the <keyword id="19906039" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-police" source="keywords">Mumbai police</keyword> on October 2, 2024, against the rampant “ticket scalping and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay's <keyword id="22420646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Music-of-the-Spheres" source="keywords">Music Of The Spheres</keyword> World Tour 2025 in India”. The ticketing platform added that they had provided details of all resellers that had caught their sight, including independent individuals reselling tickets for Coldplay’s tour across social media platforms such as Instagram (where A had purchased their tickets from) and WhatsApp. Not just these small resellers, but multinational ticket exchange and <keyword id="23273060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ticket-resale" source="keywords">ticket resale</keyword> platform <keyword id="23278340" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="viagogo" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="viagogo" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="viagogo">Viagogo</keyword>, and its parent company StubHub Holdings have also been served legal notices by Zomato Live and BMS. While Zomato Live has not commented on if the tickets purchased via Viagogo or such scalpers would be canceled or not, it is no secret that hours after the tickets were shown as sold out on these official sites, tickets for both Diljit and Coldplay’s concert were available on Viagogo, albeit at sky-high prices. Even as of today, you can buy tickets for Coldplay’s concert in Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 19th, 2025 on Viagogo. The catch? You should be willing to empty your pockets. Consider this. Tickets for level 2 stand E were priced at Rs 9,000 on BMS. On Viagogo, the tickets for this specific category start at Rs 54,431, and go as high as Rs 1,89,512. The tickets A bought were also originally priced at Rs 6,450. But on Viagogo, the starting range is Rs 31,288, going up to Rs 1,13,207. Talk about earning 5x-6x returns! In comparison, the ticket prices offered by these Instagram reseller accounts, also termed as scalpers, might look benign, even generous. But at the end of the day, scalpers are also looking to rake in profits, which they earn by selling these tickets in bulk i.e. lots of 5-10 tickets at once. After all, who is attending concerts alone? The slim margins on individual tickets are well cushioned by the extra bucks brought in by the higher quantities of tickets sold at once. In A’s case, the scalper demanded a 20% advance for booking confirmation. Others ask for as much as 50% of the booking amount. Once that’s done, the customer would get an e-ticket on their registered email ID, which will mention their seat number and booking ID. Then, once this customer pays the remaining amount, the physical tickets will be dispatched to their registered address. Mind you, these physical tickets are important. Just e-tickets won't make the cut for both Coldplay and Diljit. You would not be able to enter the venue if you don't have this physical ticket or a wearable band. So, if the tickets are not delivered to your place before the concert, you’d be left stranded, even after paying all that money. Also, dont be surprised with a constant, relentless barrage of messages and calls, if you so much as just inquire about the tickets. Most scalpers, in a bid to quickly close on the opportunity, call incessantly, not giving buyers enough headspace to make rational, or for that matter, rationally priced decisions. But even after all the hassle, there is no guarantee of timely, or even delivery. While there were multiple screenshots on each of these pages, showing confirmation from various Instagram users saying that tickets had been delivered, but is that convincing proof enough? Or legal enough? <h2>Its legit, its not legit-No one knows! </h2>Well, it's a gray area, truth be told. But Germaine Pereira, Partner, Solomon &amp; Co. underlines that if the buyer is willing to pay a premium or higher price than the ticket’s original face value, it is valid, and perfectly legal under the Indian Contract Act, 1872 “Ticket resale or scalping, where individuals or entities buy tickets for specific events, and then resell such tickets at a higher price to make a profit, is valid if it meets the essential elements of a contract-offer, acceptance, consideration, and lawful object. Unless there is a clearly established motive of cheating or fraudulent inducement or exorbitant pricing of tickets in the secondary markets, there’s nothing wrong”, continues Pereira. State governments are also largely reluctant to establish regulations in these waters, since a resale would entail double entertainment tax, which only adds to their coffers. Says advocate Siddharth Chandrashekhar, Senior Panel Counsel at Bombay High Court, "Although some state police forces, like in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Punjab, have cracked down on illegal sales, arrests are rare, and the absence of cohesive legislation leaves enforcement inconsistent. Black marketing or reselling of live event tickets at escalated prices constitutes an offense under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for petty crimes, the Consumer Protection Act 2019 for unfair trade practices, and the Competition Act 2002 for abuse of dominant position”, Chandrashekhar highlights. “While Maharashtra’s Entertainment Duty Act, 1923, attempts to curb resale for some events, most states lack clear laws addressing scalping. Concert ticket scalping in India operates in a regulatory vacuum. With no specific national laws, opportunistic sellers can legally resell tickets for exorbitant sums, with no recourse for buyer”, he signs off.

'Will my tickets get canceled now?' people who purchased tickets from scalpers during the Diljit-Coldplay mania ask

A couple of days back, tickets for iconic band Coldplay's concert went up for sale on <keyword id="20215809" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BookMyShow" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BookMyShow" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="BookMyShow">BookMyShow</keyword>. However, the tickets were sold out within a few minutes of being listed and a lot of people took to social media to share their experiences. While some managed to get the tickets to one of the most-anticipated concerts in India, others were disappointed. Shortly after this, there were reports of tickets being bought and sold in black, for much higher prices. Social media was then rife with discussions about scalpers, and how they are hoarding tickets to sell them at higher prices. Now, BookMyShow has filed an FIR for black marketing of Coldplay's tickets. According to an ANI report, the company has taken legal action against unknown scalpers involved in the reselling of tickets for Coldplay's "<keyword id="23232180" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Music-Of-The-Spheres-World-Tour" source="keywords">Music Of The Spheres World Tour</keyword> " in India. The online ticket platform filed an FIR with the <keyword id="19906039" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Police" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Mumbai Police" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Mumbai Police">Mumbai Police</keyword> on October 2, accusing scalpers of black market activity surrounding tickets for the band's highly anticipated shows in January 2025 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The FIR was registered at Vile Parle Police Station, with the Mumbai Police charging the accused under sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as well as section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act. Investigations are currently underway to identify those involved in the unauthorised resale of concert tickets. The issue arose when BookMyShow, which opened ticket sales for the concert on September 22, received emails from two people who claimed to have secured tickets for others in exchange for money. Several WhatsApp messages were also sent to BookMyShow requesting additional tickets, which the platform ignored. BookMyShow had clearly warned buyers against purchasing tickets from third-party sources, yet scalping activities persisted. In response to these concerns, the ticketing company lodged a complaint with the police on September 23, well before the formal FIR was filed. BookMyShow's spokesperson said the company remains committed to combating ticket reselling and is cooperating with the authorities to investigate all instances of illegal sales, including those on social media platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp, as well as digital reselling platforms like Viagogo and Stubhub. "In its ongoing fight against <keyword id="23311384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ticket-scalping" source="keywords">ticket scalping</keyword> and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, BookMyShow has lodged a formal FIR (First Information Report) on October 2, 2024. This action follows our initial complaint filed proactively with the Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024, addressing these concerns much before any formal complaint was raised against us. BookMyShow's FIR filed with the Mumbai police also urges authorities to investigate the unauthorised resale of tickets by individuals and platforms. "We have provided details of all resellers that have come to our attention, including independent individuals reselling tickets for this tour across social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp and beyond, as also digital platforms such as Viagogo, Stubhub Holdings and more, to aid authorities in a thorough investigation," a statement from the company read. The platform is also reportedly considering cancelling tickets that have been sold through unauthorised channels and reiterated its strong opposition to illegal ticket resale. BookMyShow had also posted a statement on Instagram last month, saying that scalping of tickets is punishable by law in India and that people should stay safe from scammers. "Scalping is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India. We have filed a complaint with the police authorities and will provide complete support to them in investigation of this matter. We urge you not to fall victim to these scams. Any tickets bought from unauthorised sources will be at risk of consumer and can turn out to be fake tickets. Beware of such scammers," the statement had read. Coldplay is set to perform three shows in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 20, 2025, as part of their world tour.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A Black Workday employee sued the company, claiming race and disability discrimination.</li><li>Workday sent police to his home while he was in the hospital.</li></ul>A Black <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hr-software-tech-companies-employees-productivity-workday-oracle-adp-2024-8">Workday</a> employee filed a race and disability discrimination lawsuit against his employer after it sent police to his house for a "wellness check" while he was being treated at a hospital and had requested medical leave.Anthony Hill, a senior legal counsel at Workday, who is Black and on leave from the company, filed the lawsuit against the company in the Northern District of California's court in December 2023. The case is still ongoing.In June, the case was dismissed without prejudice because the court ruled that Hill had not adequately pleaded that California law should apply extraterritorially. Workday is based in California, while Hill is based in Maryland. Hill has filed an amended complaint, which Workday has moved to dismiss. Court-mediated settlement negotiations last month were unsuccessful.Hill alleges that he was on medical leave from October 12, 2022, to November 22, 2022.Leading up to his leave, Hill said he started drinking more as he faced more stress. On October 12, 2022, he went to the hospital due to "stress, exhaustion, and trauma associated with this and other disparate, discriminatory, retaliatory, harassing and hostile treatment of him" by other Workday employees, the lawsuit said.That day, Hill emailed his manager to inform her that he was having a medical emergency and going to the hospital. He also sent a completed leave request form and said he would file the required <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-pregnant-workers-parental-maternity-leave-can-be-laid-off-2023-3">Family and Medical Leave Act</a> paperwork soon.The following day, his manager replied with information about FMLA and said, "Please don't worry about work and focus on feeling better."On October 20, 2022, while he was still at the hospital, Workday sent police to his house for a "wellness check."According to a police report about the incident, a safety and security manager at Workday called the police for a welfare check on Hill because the company was unable to contact Hill or his wife, his emergency contact. The police spoke with Hill's wife, who confirmed that Hill was in medical treatment, the report said.Hill told Business Insider that he did not receive any records, calls or emails from Workday after the last email from his manager on October 13 and before the incident.At the hospital, Hill couldn't use his cellphone, so a member of the rehabilitation center staff informed Hill about this and allowed him to call his wife. Hill said when he heard about this, he felt like he "was going to have a heart attack," and his wife, who was home at the time, was "rattled" about the incident.The police department of Montgomery County, where the wellness check took place, declined to comment as it is not involved in the lawsuit."There's nothing they would've thought cops with guns could solve on October 20 that doctors with stethoscopes could not have solved," Hill told BI.Workday declined to comment on this report.FMLA guarantees eligible employees of covered employers to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid medical or family leave in a year. The employee must make it clear they need to take leave for FMLA reasons, while the employer should let the employee know they qualify for medical leave and provide the paperwork for the employee to complete.The Department of Labor requires that employers give employees 15 calendar days to provide their complete medical certification under FMLA.Hill said he was initially worried about complying with the FMLA when he was admitted to the hospital because he had not finished the paperwork at the time, but the staff told him of this legal protection, and he said the hospital provided the FMLA paperwork within 15 days.Hill filed an EEOC charge against Workday in April 2023. In August 2023, he first filed a lawsuit against the company in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, which was voluntarily dismissed without prejudice.<h2 id="4f3f4d72-e4f6-4265-82fc-03ca97b5fe9d">Returning from medical leave</h2>A few months after returning from leave, Hill asked Workday's HR department in March 2023 for more information on the wellness check. The staff declined to provide him with information or documentation about it."They won't tell me anything. Did they think it was an emergency? Did they think I was in danger?" Hill said."Did they think I was going to hurt someone? Why did they send police to my house and endanger my wife and kids?"While Workday may have been trying to contact Hill to finish his FMLA paperwork, it's uncommon to send police to an employee's house for a wellness check, said Cassie Lenning, partner at Outten and Golden, a law firm that represents tech employees and is not involved in the lawsuit.If an employee had mental health issues that the employer was aware of, that could be a situation where an employer may send someone for a wellness check, Lenning said."Even in that circumstance, why wouldn't they send someone from the office as opposed to the police? There's still a level of escalation in calling the police, well-intentioned or not," Lenning said. "I question the judgment of someone who would send police to the home of a Black man. There are racial implications that are being ignored."Hill said after he went back to work, he received "awful treatment," such as receiving more pushback at work and getting left out of meeting invites. He said he had a modified schedule where he worked half-time.In January 2023, he reported to HR about his racial and disability discrimination claims at the company and asked to be transferred to a different group at work. The company's HR staff investigated the case and then closed it in March, concluding that his claims "lacked merit," the lawsuit said.<h2 id="c07eb502-03de-4d81-968b-8ee1f7197d20">Other claims of work discrimination</h2>Hill has worked at Workday since January 2021. Leading up to his leave, he said he had been seeking a promotion but had been denied one. When he asked his manager for one, he was told he had to put together and submit a document on his accomplishments."That's a hurdle my non-Black colleagues didn't have to overcome," Hill said.Later, he said he started getting more pushback in his work, such as when he enforced policies around limiting gift-giving to federal officials that the company wanted him to sign off on. According to the lawsuit, Hill also said a colleague told him during a meeting, "Everybody knows you don't want to work, Anthony," and doubled down on his work ethic and professional reputation. Hill told his manager that the incident "appeared racist.""It was quite clear to me they were setting me up to fail," Hill said.In March 2023, Hill was put on paid administrative suspension for five weeks. In May 2023, Hill went on approved disability and medical leave, although he said he was denied long-term disability leave."Without a doubt, I was retaliated against over and over again," Hill said.Workday is also facing a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/transactional/eeoc-says-workday-covered-by-anti-bias-laws-ai-discrimination-case-2024-04-11/">class action lawsuit</a> claiming its AI software for employers screens out job applicants for discriminatory reasons.In 2020, after the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other Black people at the hands of police, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tech-executives-racism-diversity-black-lives-matter-protests-2020-6">several tech companies</a> shared statements taking a stand against racism. The LAPD is reportedly in the process of reuniting Hirasuna with her Tesla.Hirasuna said the experience had changed her perspective on how to park her car."I'm going to put it in valet mode, which wouldn't give them access to the trunk. Everything in my car is gone.
