Ninety-five-year old wheelchair ridden <keyword id="4104199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jal-Devi">Jal Devi</keyword> just proved that age is just a number when it comes to bringing about change in the society as she filed her nomination as an independent candidate for the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UP+ELECTIONS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">upcoming assembly elections </a>in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=uttar+pradesh&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uttar Pradesh</a>. 
 
With this, she became the oldest candidate to do so. Elaborating on why she is intent on fighting the elections, Jal Devi said that her aim is to weed out corruption apart from ensuring smooth functioning in the constituency. 
 
"Current government is fooling and troubling people. If they don't stop I also have my lathi which can swing anytime," she said while talking to ANI.

Bookies are predicting a hung house in the state with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BJP&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bharatiya Janata Party</a> (<keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword>) BJP and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=SP&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Samajwadi Party </a>(<keyword id="6355032" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP">SP</keyword>) in neck and neck race. 
 
As per the market analysts, the UP polls will be a big trigger for the market in the near term. 
 
ET reported that odds on the BJP and the SP-Congress coalition winning 130 seats in the 403-member UP Assembly are pegged at 30 paise on every rupee bet. The higher the odds, the lower are the chances of a party winning that many seats. 
 
"I am not aware what the bookies are suggesting, but my assessment is that the SP-Congress alliance is a little ahead of the BJP, and not neck to neck. There is a very high likelihood that the entire Muslim vote share will get transferred to the SP and the Congress where it is in the fray, because they still think Mayawati is the optimal choice for them,” Pankaj Sharma, independent market experts told ETMarkets.com 
However, few analysts say one party will make it big. 
 
"When people come to power, they forget their differences. I feel only one party will emerge as a majority in UP. So, there is no possibility of a hung assembly,” AK Prabhakar, Head of Research at IDBI Capital, told ETMarkets.com.

His surprising remarks right when exit poll predicted BJP could win with majority in the state. While some of the survey predicted BJP emerging as the single largest party in UP, other gave them a clean majority. 
 Despite <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> alliance with the ruling Samajwadi Party, the alliance seems to have failed in gaining desirable results. 
 
Notably, Times Now's exit poll gives the BJP a sharp edge, saying it will win between 190 and 210 seats in Uttar Pradesh; 201 seats will obviously give the BJP a majority. Times Now expects the SP-Congress alliance to win between 110 and 130 seats, while the BSP may get anywhere between 54 and 74 seats, it says. 
 
VMR's exit poll predicts as many as 200 seats for the BJP, 120 for the SP-Congress alliance and 64 for the BSP.

The Congress is showing a comeback in Punjab after almost a decade, fighting neck and neck in Goa and performing decently in Uttarakhand, despite a bunch of defections. 
 
Electoral alliance with the SP in Uttar Pradesh benefitted it, but ended up marring SP's performance. 
 
In Manipur, meanwhile, the BJP made impressive gains, but the exit polls show the Congress managed to fight back some as the battle is still neck and neck. 
 
 
As for AAP, in Punjab, it has gone from non-existent in 2012 to between 60-70 seats according to exit polls. 
 
As per exit polls, the Congress or AAP will take Punjab, the BJP is leading - by a lot - in Uttar Pradesh, and the BJP or the Congress will take Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur. 
 
Pretty impressive showing by the BJP which didn't project chief ministerial candidates in any of the states it contested - except for maybe in Goa.

The CVoter survey predicted that the BJP will emerge as the largest single party in Manipur, dethroning the Congress for the first time in 15 years. On the other hand, the Axis exit poll gives Congress the lead in the state, with a cautious prediction that it will remain in power. 
 
The CVoter exit poll predicts a close-fought battle between the Congress and the BJP to gain control of Goa, with both parties unlikely to gain a clear majority in the 40-member state assembly.

"These include identifying and blocking ads from referenced candidates, parties, and other election-related content," the company said in a statement. Twitter said it will label synthetic and manipulated <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> and link it to a Twitter Moment to give people additional context and surface-related conversations "so they can make more informed decisions on the content they want to engage with or amplify". When people attempt to retweet <keyword id="6406419" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tweets">tweets</keyword> with a synthetic and manipulated media label, they will see a prompt pointing them to credible information. "These Tweets won't be algorithmically recommended by Twitter, which further reduces the visibility of misleading information," the company announced. Twitter will also launch an events page dedicated to the <keyword id="6372146" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="assembly-elections">assembly elections</keyword> on voting days and for the election results day. The page will include a timeline of Tweets from credible accounts to provide the latest information on the days of voting and election results. Twitter gears up for assembly elections in India — announces measures to 'prevent prohibited political advertising'

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is exploring each and every opportunity for upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Yet again, it is playing the development plank and <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword> has set short goals for its ministries to achieve them in the state and complete crucial projects. 
 
Unlike Bihar strategy, for UP the BJP will have short term goals that can major impact on the ground. Modi has asked ministries to make a list of plans that can be completed by the end of December. 
 
"The party and the government have asked the ministries on the status of projects currently going on in the state of Uttar Pradesh by August 15. The ministries will also have to share a list of projects that can be completed by the end of the current calendar year. The non-infrastructure ministries can be exempted but the infrastructure ministries will have to come up with a list of doable projects," a government official aware of the development told ET. 
 
For instance, the aviation ministry will upgrade seven airports and make them operational under the regional connectivity scheme. 
 
Also, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari held meetings with field officials and engineers of the National Highways Authority of India in Uttar Pradesh. 
 
But, all the plans can hit a roadblock as to upgrade several state highways to national highways, the Centre needs No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government. 
 
Uttar Pradesh currently has 31 ongoing major national highway projects being constructed at a cost of Rs 19,400 crore. The total length of these projects is 2,156 km. The ministry is looking at early completion of these highways.

 In 1999, the voter turnout for the Parliamentary Election and the Assembly Election was nearly at par. Since then, more voters have turned up to vote in state elections than the general election. In 2004, Maharashtra saw a voter turnout of 54.3% during the Lok Sabha election. During the Assembly election, later the same year, the voter turnout increased to 63.4%. But, the difference in voter turnout has been decreasing for each subsequent election. In 2009, the state saw 50.5% people show up to vote during the Lok Sabha election and 59.6% during the Assembly election. In 2014, the difference in voter turnout between the Lok Sabha and Assembly election was less than 3%. They are looking forward to 10 "mega rallies, by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PM+Narendra+Modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">PM Narendra Modi</a>. The tech area is manned by senior leaders and information technology professionals, including some from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). They are directing massive messaging efforts, like WhatsApp posts that can reach 12 lakh voters at one go. 
 
The party headquarters also monitors video vans and campaigners touring the vast state on motorbikes. The party claims the four- and two-wheelers have reached out to 30 lakh people so far. 
 
There priority right now is planning Modi's rallies. 
 
"We are proposing one rally of PM Modi during each of the seven phases of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UP+elections&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">UP elections</a>. There may be two rallies in a phase too. The first may be in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Muzaffarnagar&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Muzaffarnagar</a> or <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Aligarh&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Aligarh</a> towards the end of this month,” JPS Rathore, <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> state vice-president, told ET. 
 
Four hundred video vans and 1,650 motorbike-riding campaigners are building the 'buzz', war room staffers said. They said 20 lakh 'aspiration' postcards have been collected from voters; these messages are being analysed and will feed into BJP's manifesto. 
 
BJP's Uttar Pradesh IT head Sanjay Rai also said that the state unit runs 8,000 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=WhatsApp&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">WhatsApp</a> groups for six regions, and boasts a total reach of 12 lakh people. 
 
"WhatsApp is the most popular networking application in the state - around 4.5 crore people use it. We can reach 12 lakh people with our message with the push of a button. The message is forwarded by them invariably to other groups they may be part of,” Rai told ET. 
 
A 110-seater call centre is also operational in the war room. Each operator makes 250 calls daily, talking to booth committee heads, and then creates feedback reports. 
 
BJP has 1.4 lakh booths in UP. There's also a research centre and an electronic media reporting department. These outfits analyse local issues that can influence campaign messaging. A team of over a dozen generates content for UP BJP on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=social+media&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">social media</a>. The state unit says its Facebook page reaches 1.3 crore. 
 
BJP leaders say apps detailing the party's poll pitch can be downloaded quickly - three apps in 15 seconds - from devices available in the party's district offices. Camps set up at some rallies will also offer this facility. 
 However, old-style campaign tactics have not been abandoned. On January 13, BJP is organising 'Mati <keyword id="4057046" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tilak-pratigya">Tilak Pratigya</keyword>' events at 75 locations in the state. The party says 5,000 farmers are expected to turn up at each location. Each farmer is supposed to get a tilak (a mark on the forehead), which will represent, BJP leaders say, the party's pledge to "solve, farmers' issues.

New Delhi, Jan 15 () Some senior Congress leaders who unsuccessfully contested the last year's Lok Sabha elections may find their names in the party's list of candidates for the Delhi assembly polls. Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra said the party will field its "best" candidates in the elections for the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi scheduled for February 8. In a meeting with senior leaders of Delhi unit, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday suggested that those active in electoral politics should contest the Assembly polls. The meeting was attended by many senior leaders including former Delhi Congress presidents Ajay Maken, JP Agarwal and Arvinder Lovely, and working president Rajesh Lilothia, all four of whom were fielded by the party in the Lok Sabha polls. Agarwal said that he will follow instructions of the party chief. "There is no reason why we should not do what Congress chief desires us to do," he said. Agarwal was a runner-up in the Lok Sabha election from Chandni Chowk. He was also a former MLA from the Chandni Chowk Assembly segment. Lilothia, too, expressed his willingness to contest the Assembly election as per directions of Gandhi. During the meeting with the Congress chief, he had offered himself to be fielded against Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Kejriwal in New Delhi seat. Congress sources said that Lovely too was inclined to contest the polls as demanded by the party high command. Lovely was not available for his comments. He was defeated from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat by BJP's Gautam Gambhir. Maken is also expected to follow suit although he had some "reservations" on fighting the Assembly polls. He was a runner up in New Delhi parliamentary seat in elections last year. The central election committee of Congress is likely to meet on Thursday to discuss the names of party candidates for the Assembly elections. The ruling AAP on Tuesday declared all its 70 candidates. The BJP is also expected to announce its candidates for the polls in next few days.
