What is your 'GUF' Strategy all about, do you think this is the best strategy for India? 
 GUF as a term, we look in 4 aspects first of all its user volume, <keyword id="1814945" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="UC-Browser">UC Browser</keyword> in India has already crossed 1 Million daily active users and we are the no. 1 in Market Share Mobile Browser. We have a standing in industry and we know how to bring value to them. We also believe in commercialization, it has to be with full capacity of commercialization compared to Google and Facebook. The approach we are taking is recommendation approach, we make full use of Big Data technology to help people to reach out to the right people. But if you consider Google, it’s making people search what they want. So, it’s 2 different approaches. 
 
How important is the Digital Platform for <keyword id="302749" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Alibaba">Alibaba</keyword> in General. Are you also looking at producing your own shows going forward? 
 
Alibaba’s Digital Media Entertainment Group is trying to import good Content from overseas market into China to make the Chinese people consume those especially the Indian content. We also have plans, maybe in the form of investment or directly, to buy logo content especially short video content, top Youtubers in India like AIB is our target. And no, we are not producing our own shows, we are helper, we help people to create content and we promote their content. 
 
Short videos like AIB are very popular in India, how are you looking to make the most of short videos, how important is that aspect for Alibaba's digital platform? 
 We have three thinking behind this move. Firstly, we look at ourselves as UCWeb international. We are very good at a long term content distribution like what we have done for UC Browser &amp; UC News. Internally we have technology engine to do it well. The second thing is after some recent incident like Jio (<keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>) in 4G space, we see 5 times higher 4G users on our platform which is to say, short video content consumption is definitely going to be next big thing and India is a country where people are passing PC and going straight to mobile. We think you (India) have bollywood, you have full capacity of producing video content and we have the technology and investment to cultivate and help more and more people to become video content maker then it’s a perfect combination. 
 
You talked about Jio. It has been a big entry in the telecom space. Are you looking at tying up with telecom service provider like Reliance Jio for internet connectivity in India as Internet connectivity continues to be an issue in some parts of the country? 
 
We will definitely look at the opportunity to work together with service providers or even some <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=wi-fi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Wi-Fi </a>providers. We are trying to offer lower cost data to users and better connectivity, even free of cost connectivity. Wi-Fi providers and other players can be potentials and we are in talk, but we also think that there are 2 other elements as important as connectivity, first is where to find the content and second is how to help content makers to make better content and how to help them to distribute the content via better technology to reach to a precise audience. So we will consider all important aspects.

We actually think in geographic way because in India not every state is suffering from connectivity problem so we will focus more on providing this kind of services to states that are suffering more and also we will have comprehensive analysis on already existing consumers who will actually need this kind of service. 
 
UCWeb has also talked about getting many content development on board, in terms of blogger you’re planning to hire 30,000 bloggers and content writers in India, how will you go about it as India is still new in blogging compared to China? 
 
First of all we consider the potential of existing bloggers are much more that 30,000 in India so that is our first confidence. Secondly we actually rely and depend on the recently launched compensation plan for it, compensation plan includes 2 things , 1st is to empower them to produce content because we have huge data and lot of instructions and content which user may like. We are trying to offer lower cost data to users and better connectivity, even free of cost connectivity. Wi-Fi providers and other players can be potentials and we are in talk”. The company feels this is the best way to deal with the varying internet connection in the country. 
 However this will not be the first time an international player has tried to provide free internet in India. Social networking giant <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> had launched its internet.org and then Free Basic initiatives in India but both failed to get past the regulations in the country. Also, <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> led <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> is currently providing free services including data to all consumers as part of its ‘Happy new year’ plan till the end of March. However, in the case of Facebook’s initiative there were only a limited amount of sites that the users could access for free and therefore hit a major roadblock with the telecom regulator <keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword> and it could not take off in India but it also sparked the debate over <keyword id="6391709" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Net-neutrality">Net Neutrality</keyword> in India. <ul><li>The Indian government directed the country’s Internet Service Providers to ban 827 porn sites but the master list of sites banned have not been made public. </li><li>The ban has been implemented on Jio’s network as well has BSNL, MTNL, Act Broadband and Airtel. </li><li>While the ban has already been implemented on Jio’s network, most sites are still accessible through Chinese mobile Internet company UCWeb’s <keyword id="1814945" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="UC-Browser">UC Browser</keyword>. </li><li>There are also other easy hacks like using HTTPS to access a website instead of WWW or HTTP. </li><li>Popular porn site <keyword id="1607136" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pornhub">Pornhub</keyword> has even launched an altered URL so that Indian users can still access its catalogue.</li></ul> India is attempting to crack down on porn yet again — but to no avail. The country’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) ordered all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to implement a ban against 827 porn websites on October 27, 2018. Jio was the first internet service provider (ISP) to implement the ban, with Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, and Act Broadband following shortly after. While the companies are using a ‘master list’ to implement the ban, that list hasn’t been made public yet. And despite the Indian government’s best efforts, people have already found ways around it. Skirting the law People are being able to use Alibaba’s UC Browser to open porn sites on the Jio network. UC Browser is the same app that was under the lens for leaking Indian user data last year. UC Browser is also the second most used web browser in India after Google Chrome, according to StatCounter’s data, with a market share of more than 32%. Users can even apply the Opera browser, which has a built-in VPN, to circumvent the government’s ban. Even Pornhub, one of the most popular portals for watching porn according to Alexa’s most visited IPs in India, launched an altered URL so that its Indian users could still have access to the site. Their vice president, Corey Price, has argued, “The ban could lead people to visit ‘risky porn sites’ that may contain illegal content.” So using any method to get around the ban should be done at your own risk — like using HTTPS ahead of the site’s URL instead of HTTP and WWW. It’s probably the oldest hack in the book that came to light when torrent sites like ThePirateBay and KickassTorrents were blocked in India. Using an alternate server — which can be easily changed by going into your computer’s ‘network settings’ — like the Google DNS servers instead of the ones prescribed to by the ISPs is more a more complicated way of navigating to the porn sites. Not the first time Porn websites are the some of the most trafficked in the world, and India is the world’s third largest porn-watching nation. This is not the first time that the Indian government has attempted to take on internet porn. It tried to ban porn sites for the first time in November 2014. But rather than being limited to some 800 websites, it was a blanket ban on porn, with the government attempting to take on 40 million porn websites globally. The current ban was filed in 2015 with 857 porn sites on the roster. But, it had to lifted in under a week. The reason was simple: The bulk of online traffic in India is driven by porn websites, and the ban was harming telecom operators. In fact, porn drives as much as 70% of India’s website traffic, according to sources speaking to LiveMint. Ahead of the 2019 Indian general elections, the government is taking a risky stance on the freedom of communication. The last time around, it was forced to not only lift the ban, but also come out against censorship. For many Indians, this move by government is another in a long line of intolerant directives with the government cracking down on their freedom of expression.
