Delhi-NCR had the highest number of trips, overall, and also clocked the highest number of office-hour trips. <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, the car-riding app, has already gone ahead the concept of making cars available to users, after launching autos and bikes in different cities. It has now launched the <keyword id="2801898" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="uberAUTO">uberAUTO</keyword> service in Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar, and the event has coincided with formation day of Odisha. 
 
"In line with our vision to provide technology-backed, low-cost smart mobility solutions, uberAUTO has been launched in Bhubaneswar, the city that recently topped the smart city list," a release from Uber said. 
 
"Auto-rickshaws play a big part in city transport, and uberAUTO will help transform the existing transportation options by using the best-in-class technology." 
 
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena inaugurated the service this morning, in the presence of MLA (Bhubaneswar North) Priyadarshi Mishra, and BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar. 
 
Jena said, "The Smart City project is a priority for Bhubaneswar and we welcome initiatives like uberAUTO which provide smart mobility solutions. Such solutions will make travelling in the city safer as well as more affordable and convenient for citizens of Bhubaneswar." 
 
Ashwin Dias, General Manager, Uber East, said: "We are excited to launch uberAUTO in Bhubaneswar - India's top smart city. Auto-rickshaws are a key part of the city and with our new service, uberAUTO drivers will spend less time waiting for passengers, thereby earning more income each day." 
 
The service would let users book autos priced at Rs 15 base fare at Rs 3/km plus Rs 1/minute.

New Delhi, Dec 13 () Uber is launching two new campaigns for Uber Auto and Uber Moto services as the US-based ride hailing company attempts to woo middle-class to join its platform.
 Uber India and South Asia Marketing Director Manisha Lath Gupta said the two services - Uber Auto and Uber Moto - have seen strong growth in the country.
 "These are entry-level products in many cities, including the large cities. In many cities, autos and motorbikes are preferred medium of commuting, especially for middle class... Uber Moto and Uber Auto are high-growth categories," she added.
 Gupta said research showed that travel for women is often restricted because family members feel it is unsafe for them to travel alone.
 "Even if they are commuting, they keep getting calls from family members asking for their location," she said adding that financially independent women contribute to the growth of the economy and that's the message Uber wanted to give with the campaign.
 Similar to the cab service, Uber Auto allows riders to book auto rides and track the ride live. Gupta noted that these features address concerns that family members may have around safety of women while they are travelling.
 Talking about the Uber Moto campaign, Gupta said the message is how commuters can save time using options like Moto and utilise the saved time to pursue activities of their choice.
 "We believe that our youth have immense potential, however a lack of safe and reliable commuting options often limits their aspirations. In a small yet meaningful way, we are delighted to support the aspirations of millions of men and women to move forward," she said.
 These campaigns will be seen across digital, print and OOH platforms. The Uber auto campaign will be rolled out in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune this month followed by other cities later on.

 To kick this off with a few basic facts of the much-touted deal. <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> China has merged with China’s biggest cab-aggregator <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/rivals-uber-and-didi-now-sharing-big-investors/articleshow/52791020.cms">Didi Chuxing </a>in a deal that is valued at $35bn. In addition, Uber’s Chinese shareholder’s will get 20% stake in the merged entity which at the time of close is valued at $7BN. Also,as per information sourced by Business Insider, <keyword id="1739133" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Travis-Kalanick">Travis Kalanick</keyword> will now be on Didi’s bord and vis-a-vis, Didi’s Founder and CEO, <keyword id="2633700" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cheng-Wei">Cheng Wei</keyword> will now join Uber’s board.

	Now to put everything in perspective for everyone in one line-this shifts the power game played by two of India’s largest cab-aggregators, Uber and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Ola-has-done-something-which-will-make-it-way-ahead-of-Uber-Find-out/articleshow/53488024.cms">Ola,</a> heavily in the global giant’s favour. Why?

	INDIA IS THE KING 
	Firstly, this frees up vast quantities of money and resources for use in India. Travis Kalanick has made it very apparent that the biggest amongst Uber’s ‘big-bet’ markets is India, on many an occasion. So, with this deal going through, as a source close to the deal told us, “Uber will now double down on product, engineering and people in key countries like India and South East Asia. All the freed up capital will allow us to hire more engineers locally and re-deploy the attention of our engineers globally to our biggest bet markets.” It is said that over 150 engineers in Uber’s San Francisco office were working solely on its Chinese business, all of whom will now be able to dedicate that attention to building the business in India and South East Asia, as and when required. The source told Business Insider that for Uber the mandate is clear, “We want to develop and ramp up our home grown products and innovation.” Which means, the Indian market can expect many more India-specific products like the Uber Auto and Uber Cash that were developed only for this market.

	END OF A UNIFIED GLOBAL FRONT 
	Secondly, this clearly shifts the focus of the so-called global alliance that was in place, with Didi leading the way, almost to a point of non-existence. Didi had inked tie-ups with some of Uber’s biggest competitors in the US (Lyft), India (Ola) and South East Asia (GrabTaxi) over the last 2 years. Infact, it was also one of Ola’s largest investors, having recently pumped in as much as $30mn in the Indian Unicorn. Ola, that has been counting on Didi on numerous occasions to show it in good light-investment and business strategy-wise- also will need to look deeply into this association, as with this deal, Uber becomes Didi’s single-largest shareholder, and Didi becomes one of Uber’s largest investor. Like, with Lyft, where Didi has invested over $100mn, Ola will need to think-twice about the kind of information about its business plans it wants to make available to Didi, given the association won’t break in a hurry, but Didi’s focus on Ola sure might waiver, with Uber gaining hotspot. From Didi’s perspective, this alliance will become its most important one, given the value and weightage of the deal.

As the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ola&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ola</a>-<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Uber&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uber</a> rivalry reaches newer heights with <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> slashing fares by up to 22% in 10 non-metros, <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> has taken the battle off the cities into smaller towns by launching autos into 12 new local markets. 
 
The online cab aggregator now has over 100,000 autos across 24 Indian cities, and claims to targeting two million rides from the auto-rickshaw category alone by the end of 2017. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ola&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ola</a> also claims to see 30 million daily rides in the 24 cities, fulfilled by a solid three million auto-rickshaws. 
 
While the jostle to stay ahead continues, Business Insider sat down with Nitesh Prakash, Senior Director of Operations at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ola&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ola</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Anand+Subramanian&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Anand Subramanian</a>, Senior Director of Marketing Communications to understand the dynamics of what’s going on in the company. 
 
Why have you been doggedly pushing the Auto segment? 
Nitesh: In India there are over 215 million auto rides daily. That’s a huge number that attracts us. I see a lot of value <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ola&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ola</a> can add to the immense supply that’s present. 
 
Anand: This is one segment where not many players have met with much success. That speaks volumes for what we have done differently, and how we’ve got it going across Tier I and Tier II cities. Each of these cities has over 20,000 odd auto rickshaws each. That’s a quarter of a million autos in the 12 new cities we’ve launched in. 
 
How much do autos contribute to Ola’s total business? 
Nitesh: I won’t be able to share exact numbers. 
 
What I can say is that the Auto business started over a year ago, and we think it can match up to the cab business, sooner than later. 
 
Anand: To give a sense of scale, of the 450,000 vehicles on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ola&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ola</a> today, over 100,000 are Auto rickshaws. We’re looking to cross 2 million auto rides a day be end of 2017. That’s just to put it in some perspective. 
 
How are you doing it differently than the Uber Auto? 
Anand: What set us apart for autos is the immense customization and emigration we’ve done for the segment. We know autos are not similar to what cabs are. They have very different customer use-cases and driver base. 
 
Each of these should be factored in. There can’t be a playbook template approach. 
 
Nitesh: It needs a lot of local understanding. We can’t replicate one city’s model anywhere else. We have training, development and support centres across every city we’re operating in. That way we’re more reachable. 
 
There’s apprehension that Auto tariffs will go up when Wi-Fi is introduced. 
Nitesh: It’s a little too early to talk about Wi-Fi on other categories. 
 
We have to give it far deeper thought. We have to think of autos in isolation. Nothing on those lines to discuss yet. 
 
Some say the Micro is cannibalizing into the Auto segment. What do the numbers say? 
Nitesh: I can’t comment on the numbers. 
 
A customer prefers an auto over Micro for a very short trip, say for going to the market. That’s due to the fare. We don’t think one can eat up the business of other. They should complement each other. The base fare of the Micro is Rs. 40, and that of an auto is Rs. 25. 
 
Anand: Rs. 25 in major cities, mind you. Smaller cities, it’s even lesser. For smaller cities it offers affordable commute on a daily basis and last mile connectivity. These cities don’t have that many cabs or Micros. 
 
Do you think you’re expanding too fast for someone who’s facing issues in several markets? 
Anand: We will expand at the rate the market wants us to. Our eyes are set on the mission to provide mobilizing to a billion people. 
 
If there is an end value to be created, we don’t think there is a reason to worry. When you are at a particular scale, the benefit of that is so immense that you can expand without hampering quality. 
 
There’s a genuine opportunity of reaching over 100-700 million people in tier II and tier II cities. 
 
Comparisons are being drawn between the current Ola-Uber-Jugnoo struggle and the Uber-Lyft-Gett rivalry in the US. Your comments.
