How is Ravi Kapoor now? Have we forgotten him? If you are unable to fathom what we are talking about, Ravi Kapoor is the original name of one of Bollywood's biggest superstars of all time and the ladies' heartthrob of his era -- Jeetendra! The man who earned the sobriquet of 'Jumping Jack' in Bollywood owing to his energetic dancing style, turns 78 today. He has chosen to move away from the limelight, but Jeetu -- as he was known to fans and colleagues -- continues to reside in the hearts of Hindi film buffs across the globe. His genial screen image, gentlemanly attitude off the screen and, most notably, those trademark white dancing shoes he insisted on wearing every time, will never go away from popular psyche. On his birthday, IANS does a throwback on the phenomenon that is Jeetendra.. WHERE IT STARTED Jeetendra was born on April 7, 1942 in Punjab's Amritsar as Ravi Kapoor. He schooled at St. Sebastian's Goan High School and then went to Siddharth College, both in Mumbai. BOLLYWOOD CALLING Jeetendra got his Bollywood break in V. Shantaram's "Navrang". He would go on to deliver hit films like "Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne (1964), "Farz" (1967), "Caravan" (1971), "Parichay" (1972), "Khushboo" (1975), "Kinara" (1977), "<keyword id="99062" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharam-Veer">Dharam Veer</keyword>", "Judaai" (1980), "<keyword id="7558165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Meri-Aawaz-Suno">Meri Aawaz Suno</keyword>" (1981), "Himmatwala" (1983), "Khudgarz" (1987) and a lot more, which made him a superstar. HIT MACHINE Jeetendra has acted in over 200 movies as the lead, out of which over 120 were hits! This is a ratio very few actors can dream of. His active years were from the '60s to the '90s but he actually ruled Bollywood in the '70s and '80s. In the seventies, he made a hit pair with top actresses of the era such as Hema Malini, Rekha and <keyword id="133768" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reena-Roy">Reena Roy</keyword>. In the eighties, he started off as a hit co-star for Jaya Pradha but he really struck gold once he teamed up with Sridevi in the 1983 superhit, "Himmatwala". The film that would go on to spiral Sridevi to the top of the Bollywood heroines' heap, also led to a chain of commercial successes for the Jeetendra-Sridevi pair including "Justice Chaudhary", "Maqsad", "Mawaali" and "Tohfa". JUMPING JACK No discussion of Bollywood dancing can be complete without a thorough acknowledgement of Bollywood's Jumping Jack Jeetendra. Jeetendra's style was best defined in songs like "Naino mein mapna" ("Himmatwala"), "Taki O Taki" ("Himmatwala"), "Mast bahaaron ka main aashiq" ("Farz") and "Dhal gaya din" ("Humjoli"), which remain evergreen till today. STYLE ICON The evergreen heartthrob who made every girl's heart skip a beat, has always been a natty dresser. On screen, he set a fashion trend with his white pants and white shoes. It is said that the actor had randomly picked up the clothes from a shop before shooting for the song "Mast bahaaron ka main aashiq" in "Farz", which went on to become his trademark style. When quizzed about the same on the sets of a television dance reality show a few years ago, Jeetendra confessed with a smile: "Dark clothes make me look short!" THE HEMA MALINI FACTOR The man who GenNow Bollywood buffs know as EKta and <keyword id="3868" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tusshar-Kapoor">Tusshar Kapoor</keyword>'s father has been happily married to his teenage love Shobha Kapoor for decades now, but a Hema Malini biography by Ram Kamal Mukherjee titled "Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl" mentions that the actress's mother Jaya Chakravarthy had allegedly convinced her to tie the knot with Jeetendra as she was not happy with her daughter dating Dharmendra, who was already a married man. <keyword id="9018436" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="pressurizing-hema">Pressurizing Hema</keyword>, her family arranged for a hush-hush wedding with Jeetendra at their Chennai residence. At that time, Jeetendra was dating Shobha Sippy, an airhostess. However, the news of the secret wedding got leaked in a daily. As soon as he read it, Dharmendra contacted Shobha and the two landed in Chennai. An inebriated Dharmendra reportedly broke into the wedding venue with Shobha. Despite the efforts of Hema's parents to carry on with the wedding, she backed out after meeting Dharmendra. Meanwhile, Shobha also spoke to Jeetendra seeking an explanation from him about the entire episode! STEPPING OFF THE SPOTLIGHT Why did the man with numerous hits move away from the spotlight? Jeetendra's son Tusshar revealed in an interview that the superstar of yore began losing interest when he started getting offers to play roles like the hero's elder brother or father in the '90s. Although we don't see him on screen, Jeetendra has not severed ties with his extended Bollywood family. By Justin Rao and Komal Panchamatia Mumbai, May 12 () Big ticket releases such as Amitabh Bachchan's "Gulabo Sitabo" may bypass theatres and premiere directly on digital platforms, being seen as a potential saviour for the film industry in a year marred by the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty over when cinemas will open.Faced with the question of going "direct to digital" or waiting for theatres to open after the situation improves, many filmmakers and production houses are exploring the option of heading to streaming platforms, industry insiders said.Shoojit Sircar's Amitabh-Ayushman Khurrana starrer "Gulabo Sitabo", Anu Menon's eponymous biopic on math genius Shakuntala Devi, with Vidya Balan in the title role, as well as "Chehre", another Amitabh film, are among the films likely to be released soon on a streaming platform."The deal of releasing 'Gulabo Sitabo', a quirky comedy set in Lucknow, and 'Shakuntala Devi' on Amazon Prime Video has been locked. The official announcement for both the films is most likely to be made this week," a source close to the streamer told .Ronnie Lahiri, producer on "Gulabo Sitabo", neither confirmed nor denied reports when reached out to him but asked journalists to wait for an official statement.An insider on the team of "Shakuntala Devi" also did not comment about the film's digital release."Chehre" producer Anand Pandit said a digital release was under consideration."Given how the lockdown is panning out, a digital release for 'Chehre' is being mulled," Pandit said, adding they would wait till the first week of June to take a final call.India has been under lockdown since March 25 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.The one official announcement was the release of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film "Ghoomketu", which streamed on ZEE5 last week. Most other plans are shrouded in secrecy with officials reluctant to come on record. But the list of 2020 films which will be released on streaming platforms is long, said insiders. Top on the list is "Laxmmi Bomb", featuring Akshay Kumar and backed by Fox Star Studios, which has reportedly been picked up by the recently launched service Disney+Hotstar. However, Hotstar representatives maintained a "no comment" stance as did producer Tusshar Kapoor.The movie, directed by Raghava Lawrence, was scheduled to be released on May 22 in theatres. That is unlikely to happen with no signs of cinema theatres opening even if the lockdown ends.The other 2020 releases -- Varun Dhawan-starrer "Coolie No 1", "Jhund" with Bachchan and Jahnvi Kapoor's "Gunjan Saxena" -- are also likely to head to different OTT platforms.Kiara Advani-starrer "Indoo Ki Jawani", co-produced by Nikkhil Advani and Bhushan Kumar, is also reportedly looking for a digital release.However, Advani said the film is currently being edited "despite physical constraints" and the team is optimistic it will be ready "very soon"."We are exploring all possible avenues. Nothing stands confirmed or committed. As soon as we are clear about the way ahead, we will make a statement," he said.Bhushan's T-Series' has two other films, "Ludo" and "Jhund".While questions sent to Bhushan on the slate of his films were left unanswered, a source from the production house confirmed that T-Series is planning to release its films digitally and talks are currently on.There are also some producers who want to wait it out.Producer Jackky Bhagnani, who was looking forward to the theatrical release of "Coolie No 1" on May 1, said he is not thinking about films right now. "Let us overcome this crisis and we will announce in happier times," Bhagnani said when asked about whether he was looking at releasing the film digitally.Reliance Entertainment said it will wait to release two of this year's most awaited films – Akshay starrer "Sooryavanshi" with "83", fronted by Ranveer Singh. The team will wait for the lockdown to be lifted and release these movies in theatres."We will first complete the film then we will wait. If six or nine months down the line the situation becomes much worse we will take a call at that time. There is no hurry. Same is the case with 'Sooryavanshi' and our other films," Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar told last month.Irrfan Khan's last film "Angrezi Medium" headed to OTT platforms soon after its theatrical release as the lockdown led to cinema halls being closed. "There is a lot of big money involved. Also, if you release on OTT you cannot release it in theatres… If you release a film in theatre it will come on satellite as well as digital later," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.Last week, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) appealed to studio partners, producers, artistes and content creators to support the cinema exhibition sector by holding their films and releasing them in theatres once they reopen.The statement followed reports that several films were looking at a direct to digital release amid the lockdown.The combination of "pent-up demand" and the promise of new movies would boost film business and contribute massively in reviving the industry, the association said."The collective, social experience of watching films on the big screen needs to be preserved and it can be done so only with the collective support of all stakeholders," the statement from the body read."One can't say the film will lose or gain from a digital release, because when you release a good film in theatres, sky is the limit," Adarsh added KKP/JUR RDS MINMIN

Nepotism is quite common in <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>, and is evident from a handful of surnames, viz. Kapoors and Khans, being heard every now and then, in the form of debutantes. 
 
In a way, it’s decided for the kids or nephews and nieces of Bollywood actors and producers-directors that they would not have to struggle too hard to get their dream debuts, even as the rest of their journey would somewhat depend on their talent; of course, this logic fails for a few cases like that of Tusshar Kapoor and Jacky Bhagnani, who continue to be rejected by audience, and still trying their hands in what they think is cinema. 
 
Earlier, it was a rare event that people would know the younger generations of Bollywoood clans, which posed as a struggle to them because they had to actually work hard to make a fan following. this happened when Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan made their debuts a decade and a half back.

The recently held <keyword id="3181600" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renault-Sony-Guild-Awards">Renault Sony Guild Awards</keyword> 2016 was a glitzy affair. The latest release historical fiction <keyword id="6391813" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bajirao-Mastani">Bajirao Mastani</keyword> took home a total of 9 awards, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Design, Best Costume Design, Best Dialogue, Best Choreography, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actor in Leading Role. 
 
Second name in the list was that of <keyword id="2411684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bajrangi-Bhaijaan">Bajrangi Bhaijaan</keyword>, which won 4 awards including Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Story and Best Actor in a Supporting Role. 
 
The award show was hosted by India’s favorite comedian Kapil Sharma, and with his witty humor, he left the audiences in splits. 
 There were some memorable performances too, by Sonakshi Sinha, Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khuranna, and <keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword>. 
 
Another hit section of the evening was when Akshay Kumar was honored for having completed 25 years in Hindi cienspace. He was presented a special award by evergreen actor Anil Kapoor. 
 
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Jeetendra by son Tusshar Kapoor and Poonam Sinha. Priyanka Chopra walked away with the award for Guild Global Honor for her US debut in Quantico and the Best Child Artist award went to Harshali Malhotra, who won million hearts for her role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
