An incentive based regulation is best for it. This will curb pollution drastically. New cars are mostly fitted with technologies that are at par with emission norms. Putting an end to plying of old cars will benefit in two ways. Firstly pollution will come down and along with that demand for new cars created. This will boost sell of new cars keeping a check on environment.” 
 “The shadow of demonetisation has affected car sales, much more so in the premium and luxury segments than the mass market ones. The upcoming budget can bring in relief for the automotive sector with further rationalisation of income taxes which would increase the disposable income in the hands of tax payers, especially the middle class. Also continued investment into road and city infrastructure is much needed, which will not only help car owners but is also a massive employment generator. Clarity on GST implementation and overall stable policy outlook will bring in the much needed optimism and positivity into the economy in general. "Everyone can go fight over that and we can work on this."<h2>Born out of subscription fatigue</h2>Mokhtarzada had just wrapped up his first business when he started looking for new opportunities. He always had "the entrepreneurial bug," he said, and was always trying to convince those around him to take a leap of faith.In a mixture of his own poor financial management and acute business sense, Mokhtarzada wrote a program to check for recurring charges on his credit card. Turns out he had been paying monthly for a security service on a home he no longer lived in. He told his brothers, with whom he had started and sold his previous company."All of us found something we didn't want to be paying for," Mokhtarzada said. Since then, Truebill has expanded from a recurring charge monitoring tool to a whole host of financial management tools, including credit score reporting and a rewards program just launched Wednesday."It can't work if you are looking at it through a periscope," Mokhtarzada said. "And as more things move to subscriptions, it gets more and more unwieldy to manage and stay on top of it."<h2>Another Silicon Valley exodus</h2>As the team has expanded, Mokhtarzada said talent is getting more difficult to attract and retain at the startup's San Francisco headquarters. "A great candidate has a lot of offers and so you're competing with other companies, the cost of living is higher, and it's harder to retain people."Effective Wednesday, Truebill's headquarters will effectively be in its new Washington, DC office, Mokhtarzada said. Although open positions will be posted as located in either location, and the San Francisco office will remain open, Mokhtarzada said the move was necessary for the company's long-term growth."As a tech company in DC, we are one of the most exciting employers in the region," Mokhtarzada said. Truebill's CEO discovered he was being charged for a monthly security service at a house he didn't live in. Now his startup raised $15 million and is moving to DC.

The used car market is a booming business in India. A sluggish economy has only propelled the growth of the second hand car market that had recorded a sale of 3 million units in FY14. 
 Market estimates that organized segment of used cars comprises of a meager 15% to 20% of the overall used car market. And because the market is largely disorganized, buying a used car becomes a tricky affair as well. However, there is a new entrant that wants to change the dynamics of the market. <keyword id="2877989" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Truebil">Truebil</keyword>, a Mumbai based start-up which was founded by five ex <keyword id="1960231" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Housing-com">Housing.com</keyword> employees along with former employees of Fab.com and Rio Tinto in 2014, focuses on providing one-stop solutions, for used car buyers. The company recently raised $500,000 funding from Kae Capital and angel investor Anupam Mittal. 
 “It all started when I was planning to buy my first car, a second hand car. I was working with Housing.com and it took me a month to shortlist a car. What I used to do is that I would get links from the existing platforms like CarDekho, <keyword id="6360657" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="OLX">OLX</keyword> and others and I would hire a mechanic every weekend and take him for inspection of the car and drive around the city,” said Shubh Bansal, co-founder and chief of marketing and growth, Truebil. 
 
He added, “In the end, when I was about to buy the car, the negotiation part was a big challenge, as there was no existing price-marking mechanism, which would benchmark the price of the car. This made me thinking that when technology has advanced so much and everyone has access to technology then why anyone hasn’t done anything about it. So, we did our brainstorming and realized that there is a huge potential in this segment.” 
 
The former Housing.com employees noted that on their platform, a seller cannot directly upload pictures of his vehicle. Instead, the seller will first have to take an appointment with one of the in-house auto inspectors and only when the auto inspection thoroughly inspects the car and is satisfied with the condition of the car, can the seller list his car. “The inspector is required to click several pictures of the car which includes those of the scratches and dents and then we post it on the platform. This gives us a lot of flexibility in terms of curating and verifying the content that is being uploaded,” Bansal noted. 
 
He explained that the company does not list cars that have been involved in accidents or that have had a load of over 1 lakh kilometers or more on it. So how does the company plan to break the clutter in the market. 
 
“Currently, we do not charge anything for our verification services but we are planning to charge a minimal fee for the after sale services such as paperwork among others. The quantum of the fees will be decided basis the nature of the work involved,” he averred. 
 
So why isn’t the company charging anything? Bansal elucidated that at the moment, they just want to popularize the model among the consumers and do not want to charge for a service that customers are not accustomed to pay for. “Once they do, we can start generating revenues,” he said. 
 
The company has sold over 150 cars, which is over 3 crore of GMV. We have been recording 90,000 per month unique visitors, of which 45% are returning users. The company also plans to use the funds raised for upgradation of technology, talent sourcing and building up a robust platform, followed by expansion in other markets. 
 
“We are present in Mumbai but are looking at two more cities, which we have zeroed in on at present,” Bansal noted. 
 
While Truebil certainly seems to streamline the processes involved in buying a used car, what remains to be seen is whether company successfully carves out a niche like its former employer Housing.com or does it end up being just another player in the space.

Drokova reached a million dollars in revenue in the shop's first year in business, and multiple startups grew to $100 million and $1 billion in valuation while working with her and her team. <h1>Dipping her toes into angel investing</h1>After seeing that PR played an integral role in the growth of her client's businesses, such as Gett <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2019/05/07/gett-raises-200m-at-1-5b-valuation-for-its-b2b-ride-hailing-service-aims-for-2020-ipo/">($1.5 billion</a> in valuation), Houzz (<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/14/houzz-2019-disruptor-50.html">$4 billion</a> in valuation), and HotelTonight (<a href="https://techcrunch.com/2019/04/15/airbnb-officially-owns-hoteltonight/">$463 million</a> in valuation), she began setting her sights on becoming an angel investor."I wanted to help the best companies with communications and was in search of a structure that would allow me to spearhead communications and achieve stronger alignment and higher returns than agency-client relations allowed for," she explained. So while Drokova kept M&amp;A going until 2018, she simultaneously began exploring angel investing opportunities in February 2016. Finance management solutions company <a href="https://www.truebill.com">Truebill</a> was among her picks. Her vision was on track: Truebill grew eight times last year and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fintech-startup-truebill-raises-series-b-take-on-intuit-mint-2019-10">recently closed a series B round</a>. While angel investing, Drokova tested an original model she had conceived: leading communications and PR for her portfolio companies. Her concept resulted in more and more people asking her to coinvest with them and/or invest money on their behalf. Founding her own fund, Day One Ventures, became a natural response to demand on both sides. (Day One's name, as it states on the firm's website, was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jeff-bezos-says-always-day-1-amazon-philosophy-2019-12">inspired by Amazon's Jeff Bezos</a>, who once explained that as soon as a business reaches 'Day Two,' it's all over.)According to TechCrunch, Day One is currently the <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/02/06/day-one-ventures-launches-fund-which-wraps-vc-and-pr-into-one/">only fund in the US</a> that leads communications and PR for its portfolio companies. As a result, she described her time angel investing as a "great test for the business model." <h1>A 4-step plan for adding unique value to clients</h1>Ensuring that her entire in-house team gained a clear understanding of how her VC firm would provide added value, and developing a process around the way they would do this, were key to her company's success. She shared four steps that made this happen, and how other businesses can do the same.<h2>1. Show your team clear examples of what success looks like </h2>Day One gives their in-house team past examples of strategic communications plans at each stage. "We start with business goals and craft goals for communications based on the clearly outlined business goals for each portfolio company," Drokova explained. "As we spent time doing due diligence before working with a company and understanding their business, it makes it easier for us to get clear on business goals and on what kind of publicity will help to achieve them." With this process in mind, success for Day One is not just about media coverage gained, but about benchmarks hit with the help of the firm's PR work. "We have multiple case studies of our work that give benchmarks of what we see as good work, though we are always trying to deliver more than [in] previous phases," she said. <h2>2. Meet with and research clients before making a decision to partner up</h2>Drokova noted that most of the time, her team has met with founders before investing in their company. As part of the investment process at any VC firm, Day One's internal team is also involved in different parts of due diligence in evaluation of investment opportunities - especially when it comes down to evaluating consumer products targeting Day One's demographics. Drokova's team researches the market size and dynamic, tests the quality of the product, and looks at the founding team's experience, including reference checks."This structure allows everyone [on the internal team] to gain a great understanding of [our portfolio company's] business, giving them a leg up on delivering 110% - because by the time they're expected to execute on communications goals, they [have] already learned about the business, market, team, and market opportunity," Drokova said. <h2>3. Pen a "jump-off document"</h2>Upon investment, the firm creates a "jump-off document" that outlines business goals for the next year, announcements, company story, founder story, and expected milestones. <h2>4. Go out and create opportunities based on your data</h2>Next comes messaging. Using the information from the document, the team paints a fuller picture of the portfolio company and crafts facts into a compelling story that's meant to evoke emotion and be relatable to any reader. "We build out messaging with numbers, data, and market trends, leveraging peer-reviewed studies and credible database information," Drokova said. Drokova pointed to Day One's portfolio company TrueBill as a great example of her four-step plan in action, noting that Day One invested in the seed stage and led communications all the way through TrueBill's series B. Her team's history with TrueBill enabled them to garner unique feature stories for the company, which led to new opportunities and influenced the growth of users, fundraising, recruitment, and market positioning. "We started by clearly defining what the company does and why it's important," she said. "This has evolved over the years and each time a new feature, function, or problem they were solving was added, we reshaped the messaging to reflect this." With TrueBill, her team was able to see that the personal finance ecosystem is fragmented, with many apps focusing on a single aspect like investing or savings. After identifying the problem/market opportunity, Day One next moved into showing how their portfolio company is the solution. "Our explanation of the solution was that Truebill has grown from an app that helps people track and cancel subscriptions to being recognized as one of the most effective platforms for personal financial management," Drokova said. "It saves its users an average of $500 per year with total savings surpassing more than $50 million, and the company has analyzed nearly $290 billion in financial transactions."Next, Day One dives deeper and defines key features: the most useful and unique aspects of the app. For example, Day One highlighted that TrueBill was slated to release three new features: Bill Pay (the ability to view bill PDFs and easily pay bills within Truebill from one central place), Credit Scores (to view, track, and monitor a credit score and credit report from the Truebill app), and the Truebill Rewards Program (a rewards program that increases savings bonuses based on behavior).Based on all of the above components, Day One next crafts press announcements to generate media interest. Day One also introduced TrueBill to some of the firm's marketing partners, who helped TrueBill with growth and introduced them to some of the firm's new investors.<h1>Widening investor circles</h1>Day One had initially taken investment mostly from successful tech founders, who, Drokova said, "intimately understood, from their own experience building a company, that our value add would get us access to the best founders and help grow business we invested in."But as the company grew, she began expanding to wider circles including owners of banks, heads of private equity firms, and family offices. "When these investors saw our portfolio growth, deal flow, and LPs experienced in tech, it became obvious that our model is unique," Drokova said. "Some of the LPs I met on closed curated events, dinners, [or] educational programs for executives. [A] few people came through my personal friends."Drokova explained that it was critical to her to make sure that the firm worked only with people with "the right values, transparent reliable sources of income, and perfect business reputation." She also prioritized investors who could add value. For example, she pointed out that some of Day One's LPs buy software and products produced by Day One companies. "We couldn't take capital from every person interested in investing in Day One and are very happy with the investors that we work with," she said, noting that they are primarily based between San Francisco, New York, Zurich, and London. Drokova intentionally limited her activities between those four cities to create a community in each city. "I try to be in every one of these cities a few times a year, throw a dinner whenever I'm there, and introduce our partners to each [other] so they can have networking benefits from the Day One community besides the financial returns," she said. She added that while spearheading communications served as a "great door opener" to the best founders, investors, and deal flow, the most important "north star" for Day One has been an "obsession with founders," which she explained means that every decision the Day One team makes is guided by the best interests of their founders. The concept of Truebill is simple: a single unified system that manages all your subscriptions, from your gym membership to Netflix, and helps you cancel them if you need to.<h2>The subscription future</h2>Mokhtarzada thinks you will have more and more subscriptions in your life moving forward, and that means you'll want a service to keep them all straight (and find new ones). He points out that popular software like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft's Office suite have moved toward subscription models, as have entertainment mainstays like Netflix and Spotify. Most of the newer services try to make it easy to cancel, with Netflix as a prime example, he says.That's one reason why Mokhtarzada sees a lot of the value in Truebill residing in discovering new subscriptions. And it helps that referral fees for discovery are Truebill's eventual path toward revenue.But right now, helping you easily cancel annoying subscriptions is one of Truebill's perks. Sometimes that even means writing a certified letter on your behalf, as was the case with a gym Truebill ran into. But he hadn't flown recently. When he looked into it further, it turned out Gogo had been billing him a repeated $40 for months, ever since he had signed up for a Wi-Fi pass he thought was for one flight. It wasn't. Suddenly, he was the owner of a Gogo subscription he didn't realize he'd signed up for. (Gogo did not return a request for comment.)"I was incensed," Mokhtarzada tells Business Insider. While many of us would have gotten on the phone and yelled at Gogo, Mokhtarzada, <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/19/vistaprint-buys-diy-site-builder-webs-com-for-117-5-million/">who sold his last startup for $117 million</a>, decided to build a company to help people easily monitor their subscriptions - and cancel the ones they don't want.Mokhtarzada and his brother, Idris, got to work building an algorithm to scan your credit card statements and identify subscriptions. This leaves the potential for a lot of subscriptions to slip through the cracks, Mokhtarzada says.The main feature that Mokhtarzada thinks will be a winner for Truebill is the idea of one-click cancellation. One thing that makes people wary of subscriptions is that they are notoriously difficult to cancel. Truebill wants to automate as much of that process as possible.<h2>How it works</h2>The first time Truebill runs across a subscription it's never seen before on your account, it has one of its human workers process the cancellation or keep it if you'd rather. This might mean sending an email or getting on the phone, or even sending a certified letter in the case of some gyms. The Truebill worker also sometimes has to check back with the user for additional information.But after a subscription is canceled the first time, Truebill reviews that process and tries to automate it to the extent that it can. For a gym Mokhtarzada mentioned, that means writing a program to generate a certified letter, which Truebill will then send at no cost to the customer. "Gyms are just ridiculous," he says. The goal is to get everything as close to one-click, for the user, as possible.
