<ul><li><keyword id="667274" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trivitron-Healthcare">Trivitron Healthcare</keyword> said that it has built test kits for <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">Coronavirus</keyword>.</li><li>It aims to sell these test kits for ₹500-₹1,000 per test. </li><li>In India, there is a reported shortage of test kits, which could be a big problem as the number of positive cases keeps increasing. </li></ul>Trivitron Healthcare, a medical technology company from Chennai has said that it has built test kits for Coronavirus. These kits can test hundreds of samples in a single day. The 23-year-old company had begun its research and development for the test kits when the outbreak began in China. “Our R&amp;D team was alert, and we started to keep a track of this disease from various sources. We also regularly visited the official website of the Chinese health agency to gather information like statistical data, progress of the disease, any relevant piece of information, ongoing research and level of preparedness of the Chinese Government,” said Dr GSK Velu, chairman and managing director, Trivitron Healthcare Group. In India, there is a reported shortage of test kits, which could be a big problem as the number of positive cases keeps increasing. Trivitron aims to sell these test kits for ₹500-₹1,000 per test. “We have rich experience in developing cost-effective health technology products including diagnostic kits. We made use of our experience, expertise and technology to develop the kit keeping in mind the purchasing power of the populace,” said Dr GSK Velu. According to the company, the kit can be used in all 5 sample types recommended by NIV/ WHO as long as RNAs are separated from these samples. “It will take around 2-3 weeks more for the kits to enter into the market, as we are in the process of validation of the kits at government approved facilities. We have the capacity to manufacture 500 to 750,000 tests kits per day,” said Dr GSK Velu. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad-based company CoSara Diagnostics has gotten a licence from Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) to produce Covid-19 test kits. This kit is available in both the standard version for any commonly available RT PCR instruments as well as Point-of-Care (PoC) format. The PoC solution can be used for screening at multiple sites including hospitals, airports, diagnostic labs and health camps. “Scientists from Genes2Me have been able to develop POX-Q Multiplexed RT-PCR kit for the detection of Monkeypox virus along with differentiation from Varicella Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox) in a single tube multiplex reaction format,” says the company in a statement. It is one of the first Indian companies to roll out this product and it is available for research-use only and based on Gold standard Taqman chemistry based RT PCR method. “This unprecedented time underscores the importance of diagnostic assays in health security preparedness and readiness. We wanted to be prepared ahead of time for this virus,” said Neeraj Gupta, CEO and founder of Genes2Me. For detection of the Monkeypox virus, both dry swabs and swabs placed in VTM can be used.The company also claims to be the first ones to introduce RT-Direct as first made-in-India COVID-19 extraction free RT-PCR Kit. He added, “ We have the capacity to manufacture 5 million test kits in a week. However, it can be scaled up to 2 million tests in a day with the added demand.” In the backdrop, the makers of TrueNat real-time polymerase chain reaction, which is the only PoC platform used by the <keyword id="43588" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-organization" source="Orion">World Health Organization</keyword> (WHO) to detect tuberculosis, is also developing the test kit for monkeypox, indicated government sources. Trivitron Healthcare, a Chennai-based medical devices company, also developed a real-time RT-PCR-based kit for the detection of the monkeypox virus. The company says that its test kit can differentiate between smallpox and monkeypox in a one-tube single reaction format. Last week, the WHO declared Monkeypox as a ‘public health emergency of international concern’. Globally, more than 16,000 cases of the Monkeypox virus have been reported over the last seven months in around 68 countries, out of which five people succumbed to the virus. India has reported over four cases so far, three have been detected in Kerala and one in the national capital. Indian company rolls out RT PCR test kit for Monkeypox

New Delhi, May 30 () The apex health research body, ICMR, has advised states to conduct sero-survey to assess the proportion of population including asymptomatic individuals exposed to coronavirus infection. A sero-survey involves testing of blood serum of a group of individuals for the presence of antibodies against that infection to know who has been infected in the past and has now recovered. Depending upon the level of sero-prevalence of infection, appropriate public health interventions can be planned and implemented for prevention and control of the disease, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said. The health research body has suggested that the blood serum samples of high risk or vulnerable populations like health care workers, frontline workers, immune-compromised individuals, individuals in containment zones, police personnel among others should be tested for COVID-19 antibodies. The ICMR is simultaneously is conducting a sero-survey to estimate the prevalence of community transmission of the infection among the Indian population. People from 70 districts will be tested for COVID-19 at random to check whether they have developed antibodies against the infection even though they remained asymptomatic, an ICMR official said. "The findings could be released by next week end," he said. In its advice to the states, the ICMR said periodic sero-surveys are useful to guide the policy makers and stressed that IgG ELISA test should be used for carrying out such surveys. Antibodies generally start appearing after two weeks of onset of infection, once the individual has recovered, and last for several months. "Therefore, the IgG test is not useful for detecting acute infection but indicates episode of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the past. "The RT-PCR test is considered gold standard frontline test for clinical diagnosis of COVID19. The test is useful only when performed in the acute stage of infection (&lt; 7 days). For several viral infections, antibody tests are useful for disease detection after 5–7 days of illness," the body said in statement. In an attempt to decide the future course of action against the pandemic, ICMR has communicated a detailed plan to all the states to measure coronavirus exposure in general population as well as in high-risk populations. "Such sero-survey will guide appropriate public health intervention," it said. The ICMR listed immuno-compromised patients like people living with HIV, patients on immuno-suppressive treatment, SARI, patients on dialysis among others and individuals in containment zones and buffer zones and healthcare workers be considered for testing. Security personnel, police personnel and volunteers involved in duties facing a large number of individuals or those coming in contact with potentially infected individuals, fomites or places should be tested for the presence of antibodies against the coronavirus infection. Besides, the ICMR has also suggested testing press reporters, migrant workers who have travelled back from urban and peri-urban areas to rural, tribal, hard to reach areas in the country as well as natives after coming in contact with returned migrants, industrial workers or labour force, farmers, vendors visiting large markets, municipal staff working in areas like sanitation, water supply, electricity, etc. where interactions with citizens is expected. Drivers of hospital ambulances, hearse, buses, auto, taxies, etc. who have been on work facing a large number of individuals, bus conductors, cleaners and helping staff also should be included, it said. People working in banks, couriers, telecom offices, shop, air travel related staff, all members of overseas operations and people staying or working in slums with very high population density with poorly ventilated buildings, those staying in institutional settings like old age homes, orphanage, asylums, shelters for homeless, hostels and prisons should be considered for testing. The sero-survey would be conducted using an IgG ELISA kit. Scientists at ICMR-National Institute of Virology, Pune have developed and validated an indigenous IgG ELISA test for antibody detection for SARS-CoV-2. The test has undergone intense validation in three stages and has been found to have high sensitivity and specificity, the ICMR said. To fast track production and increase availability of the IgG ELISA test, ICMR has transferred this technology to many pharma companies like Zydus Cadila, J Mitra and Company, Meril Diagnostics, Voxtur Bio, Trivitron Healthcare, Karwah Enterprises, Avecon Healthcare, etc. The technology has been transferred to various entities without exclusivity clause and therefore can be further shared with others as per demand and capability, the health research body said.
