Chugging Out To Sea: Five Coast-hugging Train Rides Along Indian Shores

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class X results on Monday. The overall <keyword id="20123359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pass-percentage" source="keywords">pass percentage</keyword> of 93.60 per cent was recorded. Passing percentage has increased by 0.48 per cent since last year. 25724 schools gave the CBSE class X examinations at 7603 centres. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.75 per cent whereas the lowest has been recorded at Guwahati which stood at 77.94 per cent. In the overall Delhi region, a 98.61 per cent pass percentage was recorded. 94.75 per cent of Girls passed the exam whereas 92.71 per cent of boys passed the exam with the Girls outshining boys by 2.04 per cent. Students who sat for the CBSE Class 10 board exams nationwide can view their mark sheets on the <keyword id="21637011" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBSE-official-website" source="keywords">CBSE official website</keyword>, cbse.gov.in. The other official websites where CBSE 10th results can be checked are - cbseresults.nic.in, results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.nic.in, digilocker.gov.in, results.gov.in. The results can also be checked on mobile apps- Digilocker and UMANG. In regards to the Class 10 exams, CBSE stated that Science, Mathematics, and Social Science were chosen by 22,62,692 students each. These exams took place over three days at 7612 examination centres, utilising 94,279 rooms, with the assistance of 1,88,558 Assistant Superintendents. CBSE class X examinations were held from February 15 to March 13, 2024. Approximately 39 lakh students appeared for Class 10 and 12 examinations. Students must score a minimum of 33 per cent marks to pass the CBSE class 10 and 12 exams. Looking at the past year's trends, in 2023, the CBSE results were announced on May 12. While in the year 2022, it was declared on July 22. Earlier, CBSE declared Class XII. 87.98 per cent of students passed the board exams. Passing percentage increased by 0.65 per cent since last year. 18417 schools gave the CBSE class XII examinations at 7126 centres. This year the overall pass percentage is 87.98 a 0.65 percent increase since 2023. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.91 per cent. CBSE Class 10 board exam results declared

The central board of secondary education (CBSE) has announced the results for class 10 today. Earlier today, ANI had reported that CBSE will release the results at 3 pm but it came out at 02:24 pm instead leaving many surprised. The pass percentage stands at 91.1% with Trivandrum recording the highest pass percentage at 99.85%, Chennai at 99% and Ajmer at 95.89%. Trivandrum had topped the list last year as well with 97.32% followed by Chennai with 93.87% and Delhi with 89%. The pass percentage for Delhi has dropped this year by 8% to 80.97%.

CBSE class 10th result 2019: Pass percentage at 91.1 up from 86.7 in 2018

New Delhi, July 15 () Girls outshone boys yet again in the class 10 exam, results of which were announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday, recording a pass percentage of 91.46. There has been a marginal increase of 0.36 per cent in the pass percentage as against last year. The board did not announce any merit list this year in view of the exceptional circumstances amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While girls have achieved a pass percentage of 93.31, pass percentage of boys and transgenders is 90.14 and 78.95 respectively. Over 1.84 lakh students scored above 90 per cent and more than 41,000 students scored above 95 per cent marks. Over 18 lakh students had appeared for the exam this year. Trivandrum region recorded highest pass percentage of 99.28, while the pass percentage of Guwahati region was lowest at 79.12. While the class 12 exams were rescheduled to be held in July in all parts of the country, class 10 exams were rescheduled only in North East Delhi which was affected by riots in March. However, later all exams were cancelled following spike in COVID-19 cases. New Delhi, Mar 28 () Amid a 21-day nationwide lockdown to combat coronavirus, Air India will conduct nine special flights between March 31 and April 3 to transport essential items such as medicines, test kits and equipment to various cities across the country, senior airline officials said on Saturday."On March 31 morning, one B787-8 aircraft would be operating a flight on Mumbai-Bengaluru route. The plane would return to Mumbai in morning itself," the official said. Another B787-8 will be used to conduct a flight on March 31 between Mumbai and Chennai, the senior official noted. "These planes would be carrying essential items such as medicines, test kits and equipment," the official added. More than 900 people have so far been infected by the coronavirus in India and 19 fatalities recorded, according to the central government. A second official told that Air India would be conducting special flights on the Mumbai-Goa, the Mumbai-Trivandrum, the Mumbai-Chennai and the Chennai-Hyderabad routes. "Total seven flights with essential items would be flying on these four routes from March 31 to April 3," the official added. India is under a 21-day lockdown till April 14 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus that has killed thousands of people in different countries across the world till now. DSP

COVID-19: AI to conduct 9 flights from Mar 31-Apr 3 to transport essential items

The Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) has declared the <keyword id="6450287" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="class-10-results">Class 10 results</keyword> on Monday. The overall pass percentage is 91%, up from 86.7%. Trivandrum (99.85%), Chennai (99%) and Ajmer (95.89%) are the top three regions, according to news agency ANI.

 The total number of students who registered for the examination stood at 1,827,472 students. The highest number of students were from Delhi. According to the board, 569,696 registered for class 10th and 12th from the national capital. The CBSE will reportedly float the press release at 3pm today. The exam was held between February 21 to March 29, 2019. The students can check their results via Google chrome as well. CBSE announces class 10 results — here’s how to check your score

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced class 10th results on Monday, with an average pass percentage of 91.1% — nearly five percentage points higher than last year. But on the gender distribution front, the pass percentage among girls is 92.45%, outperforming boys who had a pass percentage of 90.14%. According to media reports, of over 1.7 million students that appeared for the examination, 13 students have topped the board exams this year— scoring 499 marks out of 500. Out of these seven are boys and the remaining girls. According to the news agency IANS, 24 students secured the second position on the list with 498 marks out of 500. (Eds: Updating with additional details) New Delhi, Jul 15 () Girls outshone boys yet again in class 10 examination, results of which were announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday, recording a pass percentage of 91.46. There has been a marginal increase of 0.36 per cent in the pass percentage as against last year. However, the number of students scoring above 90 per cent and 95 per cent have reduced this year by 3 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively. The board did not announce any merit list this year in view of the exceptional circumstances amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While girls have achieved a pass percentage of 93.31, pass percentage of boys and transgenders is 90.14 and 78.95, respectively. Over 1.84 lakh students scored above 90 per cent and more than 41,000 students scored above 95 per cent marks. A total of 18.73 lakh students appeared in the exam, out of which 17.13 lakh students passed. A total of 1.5 lakh student have been placed in compartment. Trivandrum performed best amongst all regions with 99.28 pc pass percentage, followed by Chennai region with 98.95 per cent while Bengaluru stands at third position with 98.23 per cent pass percentage. The pass percentage in Delhi was up by around 5 per cent. While the pass percentage in 2019 was 80.97 per cent, it has been recorded at 85.86 per cent. The foreign schools affiliated to the CBSE have achieved a pass percentage of 98.67 per cent. Last year, their pass percentage was 98.75 per cent. The best performance has been achieved by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) with a pass percentage of 99.23 per cent, followed by that of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) with 98.66 pass percentage. While the class 12 exams were rescheduled to be held in July in all the parts of the country, class 10 exams were rescheduled only in North East Delhi, which was affected by riots in March. Novartis India, Sterlite Power and Genpact have been using LinkedIn to improve learning, recruiting and marketing practices in the companies. Mindtree and Mahindra Group are using Microsoft Teams for communication and collaboration within the organisations. <keyword id="154150" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="New-Delhi-Railway-station">New Delhi railway station</keyword>, which happens to be the busiest railway stations in India with a daily account of around 300 stations and 5 lakh passengers, is about to get updated to an altogether different level. 
 Starting today, <keyword id="6358777" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword> railway station will be giving its commuters free <keyword id="47655" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wi-Fi">Wi-Fi</keyword> service for the first half hour, and a minimal amount would be charged for prolonged use. The service will be implemented and managed by Rail Tel, which is a railway PSU in the field of telecom infrastructure. 
 
Talking about the charges after the free half-hour usage, commuters would have to spend Rs 25 for 30 minutes and Rs 35 for an hour for buying extra time; this would be valid for 24 hours. This extra time can either be purchased online using credit cards, or by visiting Wi-Fi help desks for buying scratch cards. These help desks are set up at Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate sides of the station. 
 
After the initial run at New Delhi Railway Station, other railway stations in the city would also be given the service. 
 
However, the good news is that this service is not going to be exclusively for Delhiites. Indian Railways has decided to start this service at 400 stations across the country. The work is in progress for 75 'A1' category stations, which includes: Dadar, CST, Thane, Chennai Central and Trivandrum Central. Sources report that these stations would be covered in the coming 12 months, after which the process to cover A category stations would be started. Trial projects would be started at Agra, Ahmedabad and Varanasi by the end of this month, after which Howrah, CST and Secunderabad projects would be taken up. 
 
Coming back to the Wi-Fi service at the New Delhi railway station; it has cost the government a hefty amount of Rs 50 lakh, and an annual charge of Rs 16 lakh would be spent for maintaining the project.

India, as a country, today stands at the crossroads as it tries to take the centre stage in the world economy; harness its innate strengths; gain a stronghold in the world’s political stage; and reinforce its place in the global scientific fraternity. The recent ‘<keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>’ campaign and <keyword id="1506013" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mangalyaan">Mangalyaan</keyword> success was just a teaser for the world. 
 As the world wakes up to the power that lies within the sub-continent, it’s time that Indians should start focusing on education says Dr Govind Swarup, the Emeritus Professor from National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of TIFR. The well-known <keyword id="2546530" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Radio-Astronomer">radio astronomer</keyword> shared several insights and perspectives on how India can establish the intellectual potential and become one of the world’s best developed nations in a candid conversation with Richa Sharma, Deputy Editor-Business Insider India. Below are the excerpts: 
 
Q. Sir, you laid the foundation of radio astrophysics in India, and built the GMRT, a lot has changed, right from technology to science governing the Physics. How do you view all these changes? 
I look at them with positivity and lots of hope. But my fear is brain drain. Today, very few bright students join research institutes or Indian universities as many get attracted to software industries in lieu of handsome salary package. Many go abroad. This must change and for this we need to overcome the ‘caste system’ dividing our education system into four buckets/boxes. (He pauses and then explains) I say, we have a caste system in education because we’ve science colleges and research institutes in one box, engineering colleges in second, medical colleges in third box and humanities in fourth. In most American Universities, all are offered in one campus and students at undergraduate and postgraduate level are required to take 20 to 30 % courses outside their discipline. 
 
Q. So, you want to say that science education should be revamped? 
 Yes, precisely. Almost all universities in India impart only education in science, but very little research isencouraged. Unless we combine undergraduate education with research and experiments in all disciplines (e.g in social sciences with field surveys), we cannot expect our universities to become world-class. 
 
Q. What’s your take on Mangalyaan success? ISRO scientists have created history by successfully inserting the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) into the Martian Orbit. This makes India the first country in the world to accomplish the feat in its maiden attempt. 
It’s a great achievement. Not only it has proved the technical skills of ISRO scientists but also mathematical ability by few in ISRO who calculated and mastered the gravitational variations across the solar system from the earth to mars that led to the unique success. But there’s a lesson that we should learn from this success. 
 
(Lesson?) We should enhance mathematics teaching and learning—right from primary levels to secondary levels across India in private schools, municipal schools and rural schools. Science can’t exist without Maths, you can even say vice-versa. A group in Orissa and Pune selects undergraduate students in Degree colleges and encourages them to go to municipal schools, interact with 20 students studying in class 5th or above, and impart mathematical knowledge. Imagine the impact we can create if we implement the same rule across thousands of science and engineering degree colleges in India. How do we tell Smiriti Irani? 
 
Q. From discovery of Type U solar radio bursts, gyro-radiation model for microwave radio emission from solar active regions; lunar occultation observations using the ORT to high angular resolution studies (about 1 to 10 arc sec) of more than 1,000 weak radio galaxies and quasars-you have done it all. Now, what’s next in your list? 
Next on my list is education. I dream of India, where we’ve world-class universities. I feel that’s the only way to capture the intellectual potential we have in the country, and make India one of the world’s best developed nations as well. 
 
From 1996 to 2004, I and Professor Bhide (former VC of the Pune University) struggled to set up a 5-year integrated Science Education and Research at the University of Pune. Our initiative was approved by the Cabinet in 2004, which later lead to the establishment of: 5 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs); another National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER); and Center of Excellence in Basic Sciences at the Bombay University. I consider this as a bigger achievement than building the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). 
 
I hope that the Modi Government would select four State Universities across India on competitive basis, provide sufficient funds, ensure that faculty is selected on a national basis and thus in due course improve our ~ 250 or more universities. There’s tremendous talent going untapped in our young population. Apart from education and nurturing talents at the bottom of the pyramid, we need to take special care of the top that would contribute to innovation. At age of 85, I can’t contribute more to these dreams, but I am sure there are others who can pave us on the road to faster growth and success. 
 
Q. That’s an intriguing thought sir, but we would still like to know what are you researching these days? We heard that you are making observations with the GMRT for problems related to cosmology. 
Currently, I am closely guiding a student from VSSC (isn’t it Trivandrum??), ISRO, to analyze observations made with the GMRT of the planet Venus and to investigate any heat flow and its magnitude from its interior. Along with Dr Sandeep Sirothia of NCRA, currently in South Africa, we are also analyzing GMRT data of "Extremely Cold Spot" in the microwave background that has cosmological implications. 
 
Q. You are probably the reason why people think of being a radio astronomer—the term however, is not known to many. Can you please explain what it’s all about in simpler words? 
Radio Astronomy is a new subject. Using radio telescopes (large antennas connected to very sensitive electronics), it has been discovered that one in a million galaxy is a very powerful source of radio emission emitting trillions of power due to presence of massive black holes at the centre of certain galaxies that give rise to outflow of powerful jets of electrons and positrons as matter spirals from galaxy to the central black holes. Many other discoveries have been made in Radio Astronomy and has brought Nobel Prize to 8 radio astronomers over the last 50 years. 
 
India has GMRT, the world's largest radio telescope operating from 130 MHz to 1430 MHz. It is being used by astronomers and students from India and 31 countries in the world including astronomers from Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Stanford. There are only a few other scientific instruments in India that has been used by international scientists and that too on a limited occasions. 
 
Q. Any tips for our readers, who want to become a radio astronomer? 
A good education background and exceptional analytical skills is all that you need. If you have completed B.Sc. and M.Sc levels in Physics and Mathematics, Or B.Tech in Electronics and telecommunications, you can sit in for competitive tests held in this field. National Centre of Radio physics of TIFR at Pune, Raman Research Institute at Bangalore and a few other places, annually select students through JEST, IUCAA-NCRA (INIAT) and TIFR entrance exams.
