The Kerala Assembly on Monday passed a resolution against the leasing of the <keyword id="860924" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thiruvananthapuram-international-airport">Thiruvananthapuram International Airport</keyword> to Adani Enterprises. This as the Congress-led opposition accused <keyword id="6362682" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="chief-minister-pinarayi-vijayan">Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan</keyword> of running with the hare and hunting with the hound. The state government had on Friday approached the High Court to stay the Centre's move to lease out the international airport. It was last week that the Centre decided to lease out the <keyword id="6357416" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="thiruvananthapuram">Thiruvananthapuram</keyword> airport under the PPP model for 50 years to Adani Enterprises. Both the state government and the state opposition vehemently opposed the move. Based on the initial reactions, Vijayan called an all-party meeting. Barring the BJP, all others opposed this and the Chief Minister wrote two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to hand the airport to the state government-backed company that had bid for it, but lost out to Adani Enterprises. On Monday in the Assembly, Vijayan moved a resolution to this effect. Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, in his speech targeted the state government for what he alleged was a dubious deal between his government and Mumbai-based law firm <keyword id="2839992" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyril-Amarchand-Mangaldas">Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas</keyword>, who were the legal consultants of the <keyword id="9814299" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="kerala-government-company-ksidc">Kerala government company KSIDC</keyword>, which bid for the Thiruvananthapuram airport. One of the partners of this firm is the father-in-law of Gautum Adani's son Karan Adani. "Vijayan government says one thing and does exactly the opposite. They cheated the people of Kerala by engaging this law firm, which had a role with Nirav Modi (diamond dealer). This law firm's relation with Adani is also now out in the open. Even though we will support the resolution moved by the Chief Minister, he should not have cheated the people of Kerala," said Chennithala. An angry Vijayan shot back and said it was most unfortunate the way the opposition spoke about this. "They (opposition) are trying to create a smokescreen and unlike them, whatever we do is like an open book and the people of Kerala know it too. The opposition thinks we are also like them and engage in undesirable things, but we don't do any such things. This law firm only did the legal vetting and they never ever had any role in quoting the figure," said an angry Vijayan. In February 2019, the financial bid for privatising five airports in the country was opened and it was won by Adani Enterprises. The Kerala government through one of its companies too placed a bid, but the Adani firm won it by quoting a bigger amount. The fuel left is a concern because a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=737+aircraft+">737 aircraft</a> requires at least 200 kg of fuel to taxi for ten minutes, said the official. 
 
The flight between Doha and Cochin (9W 555) was operated with 142 passengers and eight crew members on board, reported the Economic Times. 
 The official said that the flight could not land on Cochin due to poor visibility and took three rounds. The plane was then diverted to <keyword id="165422" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Trivandrum">Trivandrum</keyword>, where it landed after three failed attempts with only 250 kg of fuel left.

Close shave! Pilot lands Jet Airways flight between Doha and Cochin

Former President, top scientist, <keyword id="100256" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Ratna">Bharat Ratna</keyword>, these are just some of the titles that come before the name of Dr AJP Abdul <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kalam">Kalam</a>, who passed away on Monday while delivering lecture at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=iim">IIM </a>Shillong. 
 
Born on October 15, 1931 in a family of a boat owner in Tamil Nadu’s Rameshwaram, Kalam survived all hardship to grow big in life. He distributed newspaper at one to time to support his family and education. 
 After pursuing graduation in Physics from Madras University, AJP <keyword id="5141" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abdul-Kalam">Abdul Kalam</keyword> decide to take up Aerospace Engineering as he then desired to become a fighter pilot. But the destiny had some bigger plans for him. Traversing through his career journey at the <keyword id="6355142" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=isro">ISRO</a>, Chief Scientific Advisor to the <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> in 1992, the <keyword id="858029" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pokhran-nuclear-test">Pokhran nuclear test</keyword>, he was ultimately elected as India’s 11th President in 2002.

Abhishek Sharma, a software developed, shared on Quora, “Once, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam rejected the suggestion to put broken glass on the wall of a building that needed protection. Why? Because broken glass would be harmful for birds! This happened when Dr Kalam was with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=drdo">DRDO </a>and his team was discussing options to secure the perimeter of a building that needed protection. Dr Kalam reportedly said, “If we do that, birds will not be able to perch on the wall.” 
 
The other instance is when Quora user Naman Narain drew a sketch of Dr Kalam and sent it to the President. To his surprise, the President sent him a thank you card, with a short handwritten message and personalised with his signature. 
 
At a convocation ceremony of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, Dr Kalam was the Chief Guest. There were five chairs on the stage, the centre one being for him, the other four designated for the top university officials. Noticing his chair being bigger in size than the others, Dr Kalam refused to sit on it and offered the Vice Chancellor to sit in stead. Immediately, another chair was made available for the ‘People’s president.’ 
 Another action that displays down-to-earth demeanour of Dr Kalam is that during his first visit to <keyword id="165422" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trivandrum">Trivandrum</keyword> as the then President, he was entitled to invite anyone as the “Presidential Guests” to Kerala’s <keyword id="138" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raj-Bhavan">Raj Bhavan</keyword>. And as Dr Kalam had spent a significant time as a scientist in Trivandrum, he invited a road-side cobbler – who was quite close to him during his time in Kerela; and so was the owner of the small hotel where Dr Kalam would often have his meals. Can you ever imagine any other politician or a celebrity of his stature inviting a cobbler and a small business owner as his/her most prestigious guests?

Chugging Out To Sea: Five Coast-hugging Train Rides Along Indian Shores

Currently, some of the rocket hardware for the human <keyword id="41531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="space" source="Orion">space</keyword> programme has reached the <keyword id="20021373" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Satish-Dhawan-Space-Centre" source="keywords">Satish Dhawan Space Centre</keyword> here and the integration of the crew module was going on at the <keyword id="20054184" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vikram-Sarabhai-Space-Centre" source="keywords">Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre</keyword>, Trivandrum, ISRO Chairman <keyword id="19929547" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="s-somanath" source="keywords">S Somanath</keyword> said. "Today, we are working on the first mission of the Gaganyaan called G1. The first unmanned mission. The status today is the rocket, the S200 stage, the L1, C32 stage are all at Satish Dhawan Space Centre," he said. He said the Crew Module integration was going on at VSSC Trivandrum while Crew Escape hardware was also ready. "So, we have to complete with full wiring and testing should be done. Our target is by November the whole system will reach here, possibly by December launch will happen," he said, responding to a query. Somanath was talking to reporters after successfully launching the third and final developmental flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle that placed the Earth Observation Satellite into orbit earlier in the day. The success of the third and final developmental flight would pave the way for launch of commercial missions using the smallest vehicle by ISRO's commercial arm <keyword id="20038721" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NewSpace-India-Ltd" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NewSpace India Ltd" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="NewSpace India Ltd">NewSpace India Ltd</keyword> (NSIL). Today's successful mission of <keyword id="21471593" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SSLV" source="keywords">SSLV</keyword> allows industry to forge a partnership with ISRO for placing satellites into Low Earth Orbit. Besides, it would also allow a company to gain knowledge on rockets, launch vehicles, and satellites in the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle missions. To a query about the requirement for industries to partner with the ISRO for taking up commercial launch of SSLV missions, Somanath said a day-long meeting was recently held with the industry. "I am hoping that the first technology transfer will happen in India between ISRO and industry. The Request for Interest (RFI) was released and as a single (entity) or as consortia, a company can show interest on the technology transfer (from ISRO) and what were the expectations from ISRO and how to qualify for such missions," he said. From the interactions held with the industry it emerged there was a huge amount of interest for them to learn about space, he added. "We told them it will be a huge challenge for anyone to learn rocketry from scratch. It is not just transferring technology, we are transferring the knowledge on how things are done (at ISRO). It is not the drawings alone, it is the knowledge behind those drawings we transfer to industry," according to Somanath, also the Secretary, Department of Space. Through the industry partnerships, ISRO would teach them on how to build a rocket, he said and added that the industry should qualify as per the criteria put forth by ISRO. The company should possess manufacturing capabilities, manufacturing facilities and financial strengths of a company would be assessed, he said. "We will add weightage and marks based on the performance of the company and based on that the companies will be shortlisted and a contract would be given to them after the companies which have to pay a technology transfer fee," he said. Some of the unique features of SSLVs are -- it provides low-cost access to Space, offers low turn-around time and flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites, 'launch on demand' feasibility and SSLV missions demand minimal launch infrastructure.

ISRO targets first Gaganyaan mission launch by December: Chairman

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class X results on Monday. The overall <keyword id="20123359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pass-percentage" source="keywords">pass percentage</keyword> of 93.60 per cent was recorded. Passing percentage has increased by 0.48 per cent since last year. 25724 schools gave the CBSE class X examinations at 7603 centres. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.75 per cent whereas the lowest has been recorded at Guwahati which stood at 77.94 per cent. In the overall Delhi region, a 98.61 per cent pass percentage was recorded. 94.75 per cent of Girls passed the exam whereas 92.71 per cent of boys passed the exam with the Girls outshining boys by 2.04 per cent. Students who sat for the CBSE Class 10 board exams nationwide can view their mark sheets on the <keyword id="21637011" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBSE-official-website" source="keywords">CBSE official website</keyword>, cbse.gov.in. The other official websites where CBSE 10th results can be checked are - cbseresults.nic.in, results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.nic.in, digilocker.gov.in, results.gov.in. The results can also be checked on mobile apps- Digilocker and UMANG. In regards to the Class 10 exams, CBSE stated that Science, Mathematics, and Social Science were chosen by 22,62,692 students each. These exams took place over three days at 7612 examination centres, utilising 94,279 rooms, with the assistance of 1,88,558 Assistant Superintendents. CBSE class X examinations were held from February 15 to March 13, 2024. Approximately 39 lakh students appeared for Class 10 and 12 examinations. Students must score a minimum of 33 per cent marks to pass the CBSE class 10 and 12 exams. Looking at the past year's trends, in 2023, the CBSE results were announced on May 12. While in the year 2022, it was declared on July 22. Earlier, CBSE declared Class XII. 87.98 per cent of students passed the board exams. Passing percentage increased by 0.65 per cent since last year. 18417 schools gave the CBSE class XII examinations at 7126 centres. This year the overall pass percentage is 87.98 a 0.65 percent increase since 2023. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.91 per cent. CBSE Class 10 board exam results declared

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala has achieved a milestone by securing the distinction of having the highest number of five-star hotels in the country. This was revealed in the latest data available in the National Database for Accommodation units. Kerala has surpassed states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Goa which are popular amongst the tourists and corporates as convenient locations. According to the rankings, Maharashtra has taken the second position with a total of 35 five-star hotels, Goa ranks third with 32 five star properties followed by the national capital Delhi with 27 five-star hotels. P.B Nooh, director, Kerala tourism stated while the government plays a major role in developing infrastructure and amenities, private players develop amenities provided to them, helping increase the influx of national and international tourists to Kerala. The <keyword id="6356155" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse" source="Orion">CBSE</keyword> on Friday declared the Class 12 results with 87.33 per cent of students clearing the exam, a dip of 5.38 per cent from last year. There will be no merit list to "avoid unhealthy competition", the board announced. The board has also decided to scrap awarding first, second and third divisions based on students' scores, officials said. "No merit list will be declared by the CBSE to avoid unhealthy competition among students. However, the board will issue merit certificates to 0.1 per cent of students who have scored the highest marks in the various subjects," a senior board official said. The pass percentage is higher than the 83.40 recorded in 2019 in the pre-Covid period, the official added. The pass percentage last year was 92.71. Girls continued to outshine boys, recording a six percentage point higher passing rate. Over 16.60 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 examination. The Trivandrum region recorded the highest pass percentage at 99.91 while the Prayagraj region reported the lowest at 78.05. Over 1.25 lakh students have been placed in the compartment category. <keyword id="6354504" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-jio" source="Orion">Reliance Jio</keyword> on Friday announced the launch of its <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> services in four more cities, namely Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ludhiana and Siliguri, taking the total number of cities with <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword>'s 5G services to 72. The service provider said Jio True 5G was rolling out at a rapid pace and was the only 5G service to be present in majority of these cities, providing Jio users transformational benefits of technology. Jio in a statement said the launch strengthens Jio True 5G coverage in Madhya Pradesh, close to the unveiling of coveted events like Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Invest MP - Global Investor Summit at Indore. With it, Reliance Jio said it became the first and the only operator in Madhya Pradesh to launch 5G services across all large cities of Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal and Indore. Jio is also the only operator to launch 5G services in Ludhiana, thereby rapidly strengthening its True 5G coverage in Punjab, which was launched last week, according to the statement. The company said its users in these cities would be invited to the Jio Welcome Offer, to experience unlimited data at more than 1 (gigabit per second) Gbps speeds, at no additional cost, starting from Friday. A Jio spokesperson said, "We are happy to announce the launch of Jio True 5G in four more cities. Jio is the operator of choice for users in Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Punjab and the most loved technology brand, and this launch is a testament to Jio's continued commitment to the people of these states." According to a company, Jio launched fifth-generation mobile system (5G) services Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi and Kolkata on October 4 this year while it was launched in Nathdwara and Chennai on October 22. It also mentioned the service provider launched 5G services in Bengaluru and Hyderabad on November 10 while it was launched in Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad on the following day. Pune had access to Jio 5G services on November 23 while 33 districts of Gujarat had the services on November 25. Ujjain temples in Madhya Pradesh had access to these services on December 14 while <keyword id="30469" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kochi" source="Orion">Kochi</keyword> and Guruvayur temple got Jio 5G services on December 20.
