But Patel is confident because, according to him, “the Indian carmakers are just trying to make a very cheap price point to enter the market just like Tatas or any other manufacturers of India. It does chew it up because AC uses quite a bit of power. And, we use solar panel technology on the roof of our car to address that issue. I just think that you know a lot of those guys are not considering those things,” Patel said. Triton is looking to invest around $650 million to $1 billion in setting up a manufacturing facility in India. The company is also in final stage discussion with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to assist it in the manufacturing for its battery, as well as our electronic components. The company is also in talks with different state authorities to set up its facility in India. However, the CEO declined to name those. The company is looking to start manufacturing its first vehicle in 3-6 months from now and aims to roll out the first car by the end of this year. The promise of long battery life He further explained that the solar panel in their car could generate up to 1.3 kilowatts per hour, reducing the AC from 3 KW draw to 1.3 KW draw. “This offsets the losses of mileage or kilometers in India. By just doing this, we’re saving about close to 30% of the battery for being used during traffic times.” The use of solar panels is not new to the EV industry, but it would be new for India. The Korean carmaker Hyundai has also used similar solar roofs in its Sonata Hybrid, which is <a href="https://www.zigwheels.com/newcars/Hyundai/sonata">expected </a>to launch in February this year in India. The Sonata Hybrid is already available in the US and other global markets. <div type="image" title="triton 2" msid="80442339" hostid="261"></div> But would solar panels be enough to feed the battery alone? Although the solar panel will reduce the battery’s load, it wouldn’t be enough for the car to operate on the solar panels alone. And, that is the pain point for the EV makers. The idea of going green looks promising, but the Indian EV infrastructure continues to be a big challenge for them. As of the latest data, India had <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/opinion/panorama/india-s-ev-conundrum-incentives-in-place-but-no-infrastructure-933477.html">650 places</a> where people could charge the EVs. However, Patel revealed that they are in talks with many dealerships in major cities and other cities to set up their dealer facility to carry their EV fast chargers. “And basically you know what our goal is to not only have multiple dealership outlets, but also, have satellite dealership outlets. So the satellite dealership outlets means that you have less infrastructure, but you have charging stations. We feel this is gonna be a very good starting point to get people to be able to get fast charging from ourselves as far as our building goals,” he said. Meanwhile, the company is also tying up with other charging companies in India cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, Hyderabad and Karnataka. The company's first car in India is set to be launched while plans for another are underway and a market debut is on the cards. In an exclusive conversation with Business Insider, Himanshu Patel, founder of Triton EV, said that the company is in discussions to list in the US. Pre-booking for Triton Model H, its first model in the country, will start from May 10. The Model H is called a ‘Super SUV’ by Patel, and is an 8-seater car. It can go upto 700 miles on a single charge. But Patel promises it will be cheaper in India. “But the Model H we are launching in India, is a vehicle made in India. With the Model H, Patel is competing with the likes of Audi, Mercedes and more, he said. “We have built a car that suits India instead of just making another car,” said Patel. The car comes with a solar panelled roof, which offsets the air conditioner usage as well, which is a great advantage, as per Patel, for Indians who have to wait for hours in traffic at times. But the Model H isn’t where they stop. Patel is accelerating his plans for the India market, where Elon Musk’s Tesla is also set to debut, this year. Triton has plans to launch their N4 model later this year, which will rival the likes of Toyota, Nissan and others. They are also in talks with various entities for supply of armoured vehicles, making use of their one-way glass bullet proof technology. And for all of this, Triton is pumping $1.2 billion into India over the next five years. Outside of the US, India will be the company’s first manufacturing hub. This facility, which will be built over a million square feet area, can create close to 24,000 <keyword id="11018" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jobs">jobs</keyword> in the state, Triton EV and Telangana government said. Triton EV is planning to invest about $1.5 billion in this manufacturing facility over the next five years, the company said in the statement. The first tranche -- $300 million -- will be infused in the upcoming months. Triton EV’s Chairperson and Managing Director <keyword id="192817" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himanshu-Patel">Himanshu Patel</keyword> has claimed that they already have $2.2 billion worth of purchase orders from India. Telangana government, too, has given an order of 3000 EVs to Triton. “We are excited to know about Triton EV’s expertise and vision for the EV market… Industrial policy of the state which is proactively crafted towards fast process driven decision making and action towards bringing new investments in the state,” Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (also known as KTR), Telangana's minister for Municipal Administration &amp; Urban Development, Industries &amp; Commerce, and IT said on the occasion. The manufacturing facility will produce Triton EVs not only for the Indian market, but also for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the entire Middle East region. Notably, rival Tesla is also <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/elon-musks-tesla-cars-to-set-up-its-production-unit-in-karnataka-says-karnataka-cm/articleshow/80905036.cms">set</a> to make an entry into India this year and plans to set up a research and development (R&amp;D) unit in <keyword id="6354321" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>.
