"As a result, India topped the list of countries from which the most paid reviews emanated last year, with Russia dropping out of the Top 10," the report said. Further, the company said its fraud investigators identified 65 new paid review sites and blocked submissions from a total of 372 different paid review sites last year. Almost 1 million reviews submitted for inclusion on Tripadvisor — equivalent to 3.6 percent of the total — were determined to be fraudulent by the website last year, the report said. In its second transparency report — the first was released in 2019 — the travel guidance platform said 67.1 percent of the fake reviews had been caught before making it on to the platform by its pre-posting moderation algorithm. The report said: "While our overall review contributions dropped in line with the slowdown in travel, fraudulent submissions — which of course are not predicated on real customer experiences — did not follow the same trend. Our team remained vigilant and effective at catching would-be fraudsters, and as a result the proportion of reviews we rejected or removed increased compared with pre-pandemic 2018 figures." While they may pose the biggest threat to the platform's integrity and those of the businesses on it, fake reviews are not alone in being removed. In total, more than 2 million review submissions (representing 8.6 per cent the total) were rejected or removed from the Tripadvisor platform, for instance because they included use of profanity. While travel restrictions imposed by Covid led to a reduction in submitted reviews -- the number in August last year (approximately 4m) was half that in August 2018 -- the virus also posed other challenges, which Tripadvisor said led to its team manually assessing an additional 257,022 reviews, of which 46,145 were removed by moderators for violating posting guidelines, the report said. They included reviews containing encouragement to ignore government guidelines, discouraging testing or spreading misinformation, with racially insensitive comments including references to the "China" or "Wuhan" virus or criticising a business for introducing Covid safety measures. It’s a vertically scrollable feed that comes up from the Explore tab. Users even have the option to like the posts with a thumbs up. The Alphabet subsidiary claims that it receives more than 20 million reviews, rating, photos, updates and other contributions everyday. The ‘community feed’ serves as a place where these inputs can be highlighted. “In early testing of the community feed, we saw that posts from merchants are seen two times more than before the feed existed. So now more people can see if a local business is offering a new service, has a limited time speciality or opened outdoor seating,” wrote Yee. The company hopes its new feature will encourage users to visit the app more often in order to find out what’s happening in their area.  <keyword id="172543" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tripadvisor">TripAdvisor</keyword> is back with its list of the top 10 best luxury hotels of 2017, when it announced the winners of its Travellers’ Choice™ awards for Hotels. 
 
Travellers’ Choice award winners were determined based on the millions of reviews and opinions collected in a single year from TripAdvisor travelers worldwide.

Back in 2008, a chance encounter with a yogi during their trip to Kerala provided a traveler couple with the drive to convert their love for yoga into the world of entrepreneurship. 
 Alex Jaton and husband <keyword id="352440" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Alex-Klein">Alex Klein</keyword> set the ball rolling to give the world a comprehensive network exclusively for yoga enthusiasts and practitioners. 
 
“While traveling around the world, we sampled a huge assortment of yoga in many different styles with all kinds of teachers. However, the time we spent on scouring the internet to try to figure what’s there and what we’d be interested in was not only time-consuming, but also frustrating,” recalls Jaton. 
 It was then that they started paying attention to the diverse yet fragmented <keyword id="3100204" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="yoga-community">yoga community</keyword> where word-of-mouth was the relied form of advertising and the glaring absence of a medium catering towards bridging the gap between yoga teachers and students. 
 
“Ofcourse there are those personal assistant apps that could find anything for you- an electrician, plumber and even a yoga teacher. But, seeing yogis compete with plumbers frankly didn’t sound that great to us and that led to the inception of YogaTrail in 2013,” adds Jaton, who tells me that the YogaTrail team consists of seven people, including the duo, and they’re based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. 
 
Two years later, they’ve managed to build the largest network exclusively for yoga practitioners, connecting yoga teachers and students and constantly updating users on what's happening in the yoga community. 
 
 
 
Now they’re bringing it to India, the country where yoga first originated. 
 
“When you’re in the business of building a yoga website, it’s imperative that you have a presence in the Indian market, as well,” admits Jaton. 
 
Their website which is backed by Silicon Valley, SE Asian and Indian angel investors, takes care of all the needs of anyone even remotely interested in yoga and works in two ways- 
 
If you’re a yoga practitioner, you sign up on the website to essentially market your services. You enter your information- schedule of classes, venue and price. You can also post about a self-curated yoga event or retreat. 
 
While a yoga enthusiast signs up on the website to find a teacher or a yoga retreat near his/her location. One can filter the search by date, location (under 10kms/20kms), yoga levels (intermediate, beginner, advanced) or yoga styles. 
 
On being asked whether there are restrictions of any sort on the content that is posted on the website or a background check on the credentials of the person posting it, Klein is quick to add, “Any yoga practitioner can produce a host of certificates if asked, but he may not be a good 
teacher or know Yoga. The threat of dubious organizations or individuals exploiting our system exists, but how long can one pretend to be a yoga teacher?” he asks. 
 
They do have an option where students can provide feedback on a class with a certain yoga teacher who’s advertised on the site. It is based on these ‘reviews’ that the duo rank the practitioners on YogaTrail. 
 
“The idea is to let the yoga community validate themselves and endorse practitioners. It’s the same reason why we don’t spend money on advertising. I’d rather have a user recommend our website to a friend or colleague based on their experience than have a huge billboard screaming ‘Check us out,” Jaton says. 
 
“Regardless, I still have to spend time ensuring that no one is selling Viagra on the website,” she admits and laughs. 
 
While users can utlize the features in our website for free as there are no charges for signing up on the website or posting their services, yoga teachers have the option to pay and upgrade in order to receive access to premium features like finding a mention on the company's newsletter. Additionally, display advertisements are another source of revnue for YogaTrail. 
 
Moving on to talk about the expansion to India, they admit that they were persuaded by one of their investors from India who thought it was time YogaTrail made its present felt in the country. 
 
“Rishikesh and Goa are already doing well. We have about 100 teachers in both Delhi and Mumbai and hope other places in India catch up too,” Klein says. 
 
The recent surge in the popularity of yoga largely driven by the current government’s aggressive campaign to make yoga a national and global routine helped, as well. According to the government’s Make in India report, the wellness industry in India is piqued at INR 490 million.

At the moment the website has around 100,000 users. The goal, they add is to reach 10 times the number in the next 12 months along with bringing in a revenue worth a million.

India is known for its grand welcome to visitors in the country. <ul><li>India’s three main surveillance projects — <keyword id="109740" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NATGRID">NATGRID</keyword>, <keyword id="15615" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="cms">CMS</keyword>, and <keyword id="26425" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Netra">NETRA</keyword> — have been directed to stop collecting data by the Delhi High Court. </li><li>The order comes as public interest litigation (PLI) filed by lawyer Prashant Bhushan on behalf of the CPLI cited that there is ‘insufficient oversight’ allowing the mass surveillance of Indian citizens and breaking their <keyword id="515140" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="right-to-privacy">right to privacy</keyword>. </li><li>NATGRID has access to 12 categories of data, CMS can listen in on your phone conversations, and NETRA can track everything you do online. </li></ul>The Delhi High Court has issued a notice today asking India’s central government to stop collecting data through their three main surveillance systems — National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), Central Monitoring System (CMS) and Network Traffic Analysis (NETRA). The notice is in response to public interest litigation (PLI) filed by lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan on behalf of the NGO called the Center for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL). In the appeal, Bhushan argues that the three systems create a net of 360-degree surveillance on Indian citizens. What are NATGRID, NETRA and CMS? NATGRID, NETRA and CMS are surveillance systems. This means they collect data in order to keep an eye out for anything that could threaten national security. NATGRID allows investigation and law enforcement agencies to access real-time information from data stored within agencies like the Income Tax Department, banks, insurance companies, the Indian Railways, and other offices. There are a total of 21 categories of data that NATGRID has access to. Where the NATGRID has access to real-time data, CMS is centralised telephone interception provisioning system. And, it’s exactly what it sounds like. It can bypass the middleman — the telecom companies — to directly monitor text messages, social media posts and phone calls. NETRA is the third leg of India’s security infrastructure. While the CMS is tapping into your phone’s network, NETRA is watching everything you do online — not just on social media. It can monitor any text-based messages containing direct messages on Facebook, within your personal emails or online blogs. Using filters and keywords, it can identify words even in encrypted messages. How does NATGRID undermine the right to privacy? NATGRID was established through governmental notifications rather than through legislation passed in the Parliament. Even though it helps the project come to fruition faster, it also undermines the system of checks and balances essential to a democracy, according to <a href="https://www.prsindia.org/theprsblog/natgrid-should-parliament-have-role">PRS India</a>. Considering that NATGRID can access information of private individuals, it also has a bearing on their fundamental rights — like the right to privacy, as cited by Bhushan. Unlike India, countries like the US and the European Union (EU) have comprehensive privacy laws. They include the conditions under which access to databases would be allowed and limitations on how such data can be used. UIDAI, like NATGRID, was formed using governmental notifications. It was established as an executive authority, and still functions without a statutory mandate. What roles to CMS and NETRA play? The underlying logic for developing CMS and NETRA was to monitor terrorist activities mainly after the terrorist bomb attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. With both of them, the problem again boils down to a lack of transparency in the absence of data protection laws. The general public has no way of knowing if and when a person’s data has been intercepted or how data is being used. CMS and NETRA allow for mass surveillance with the potential to target large groups of people without a valid reason. To solve for the lack of transparency, the PLI filed by Bhushan seeks the creation of a permanent independent oversight body — either judicial or parliamentary — for issuing and reviewing lawful interception and monitoring warrants under the enabling provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
