New Delhi, The <keyword id="19895782" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="election-commission" source="keywords">Election Commission</keyword> Thursday directed the Centre to immediately stop delivering bulk WhatsApp messages to people under the "<keyword id="21003206" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="viksit-bharat-sampark" source="keywords">Viksit Bharat Sampark</keyword>" initiative to highlight the government's achievements. The direction was issued to the Secretary, <keyword id="19959928" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-electronics-and-information-technology" source="keywords">Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology</keyword>, after the <keyword id="19933395" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="commission" source="keywords">Commission</keyword> received complaints about the matter. "The move is a part of a series of decisions taken by the Commission to ensure a level-playing field," the Commission said. Asking the government to ensure there is "no further delivery" of the bulk WhatsApp messages to people, the Commission sought an "immediate" compliance report on the matter from the ministry. The ministry had informed the Commission that the messages along with a letter from Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> were sent before the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 16 with the announcement of Lok Sabha poll schedule. As per the latest Election Commission data, Adhikari, who had jumped ship from the <keyword id="43867" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trinamool">Trinamool</keyword> to the BJP in December last year, has got 34,430 votes against Banerjee's 30,655. Banerjee, who had won the last two elections from the Bhowanipur Assembly constituency in <keyword id="6354925" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="kolkata">Kolkata</keyword>, left her seat this time and decided to contest from Nandigram. Adhikari, who was an important minister in Banerjee's cabinet before defecting to the BJP, had won from Nandigram in the 2016 elections on a Trinamool ticket. Though Banerjee is trailing, the Trinamool Congress is showing signs of cruising to a big victory with most of its major candidates leading in their respective seats. PWD Minister Arup Biswas is leading from the Tollygunge Assembly constituency over his BJP rival <keyword id="6721" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="babul-Supriyo">Babul Supriyo</keyword> by a margin of nearly 8,000 votes. Education Minister Partha Chatterjee is also leading from the Behala West Constituency by a margin of nearly 5,000 votes. Similarly, Javed Ahmed Khan has taken a lead of more than 47,000 votes over his Left Front rival Shatarup Ghosh. Alternatively, Tourism Minister Goutam Deb is trailing from the Dabgram-Phulbari constituency in Jalpaiguri district, while Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak is trailing from the Asanasol South constituency in East Burdwan district. Minister of State for Fire Sujit Basu is also trailing from the Bidhananagar constituency. BJP's Nisith Pramanik is leading against Trinamool heavyweight Udyayan Guha from the Dinhata Assembly constituency in Cooch Behar district. Mamata Banerjee continues to trail in Nandigram while other Trinamool heavyweights are leading

In a star-studded Assembly election battle in West Bengal, in which both the ruling <keyword id="43826" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trinamool-Congress">Trinamool Congress</keyword> and the principal opponent <keyword id="14666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> fielded more than a dozen actors and actresses as candidates, the trends seem to show that while the Trinamool has successfully reaped the advantage of stardom, the <keyword id="204577" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="saffron-party">saffron party</keyword> has failed to capitalise on the glamour quotient. Tollygunge was considered by many as one of the toughest seats for the Trinamool, where the BJP fielded singer-turned-politician MP Babul Supriyo against seasoned campaigner Arup Biswas. However, after 10 rounds of counting, Biswas was way ahead of Supriyo, taking a lead of more than 10,000 votes. With Biswas increasing the lead after every round, it seems that Supriyo is now fighting a losing battle. West Bengal Chief Minister <keyword id="43868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mamata-banerjee" source="Orion">Mamata Banerjee</keyword> on Monday announced the reopening of educational institutions in the state from November 16, after a gap of nearly 20 months. Banerjee, who is on a North Bengal tour, during an administrative meeting at Uttarkanya -- the state secretariat in Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal -- directed <keyword id="12385503" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-Secretary-H-K-Diwedi" source="Orion">Chief Secretary H K Diwedi</keyword> to make the necessary arrangements. With this, the educational institutions that were closed due to the Corona pandemic will resume classes in the offline mode. Though Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress chief, had earlier announced November 15 as the date, it was deferred by a day owing to Bisha Munda's birthday. The tribal leader's birthday on November 15 is treated as a special holiday in the state. "On November 4, there is Kali Puja, followed by <keyword id="12385504" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhatri-ditiya" source="Orion">Bhatri Ditiya</keyword>. After two days is Chhat puja while November 13 happens to be Jagadhatri Puja. So we can reopen the schools after these festivals from November 15," she said during the meeting. The Times Now Exit Poll Predictions had said Mamta Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress might not do as well as it did in 2014 elections. The projections forecast TMC winning from 28 out of 42 seats in West Bengal. Though the vote share of TMC might remain the same in 2019 <keyword id="6355187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> election result as it was in 2014, the predictions presuppose that the TMC’s seats might be down by about 6 this time. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC got 34 seats out of 42. The remaining 8 seats were distributed among the other contesting parties at the rate of 2 for BJP, 4 for the Congress party and 2 for the left front led by the CPI (M). If the Times Now Predictions match with the actual turnout after the results are announced, the BJP might be winning 11 seats from West Bengal in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the party could get only 2 seats during 2014 general elections from this state. The TMC contested from all the 42 constituencies in West Bengal. While choosing the candidates to represent the party in 2019 elections from this state, Mamta Banerjee had decided to drop 10 sitting MPs and getting in 18 new candidates. Besides the 42 seats in West Bengal, TMC contested from 3 seats in Jharkhand, 2 seats in Odisha, 2 seats in Bihar, and 1 seat in Andamans. TMC has also decided to let its candidates try their luck from 10 assembly constituencies in Odisha as the state of Odisha is going for assembly and Lok Sabha 2019 polls simultaneously. The Party’s sitting MP Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of Mamta Banerjee, the TMC chief faced the elections once more from Diamond Harbor, his winning constituency.
