<ul><li>Uber founder and former CEO <keyword id="1739133" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Travis-Kalanick">Travis Kalanick</keyword> has reportedly invested in Indian cloud kitchen startup <keyword id="6971315" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rebel-Foods">Rebel Foods</keyword>. </li><li>But Kalanick is also <keyword id="6357342" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hiring">hiring</keyword> in India for his own venture – <keyword id="3155186" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cloud-kitchens">Cloud Kitchens</keyword>. </li><li>He had acquired a controlling stake in Cloud Kitchens in 2018, taking on the role of CEO.</li></ul>Travis Kalanick, the founder of Uber who was ousted from his own company, is heading to India. He has invested in Indian cloud kitchen startup Rebel Foods, according to <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/people/uber-ex-ceo-travis-kalanick-grabs-slice-of-cloud-kitchen-arena-1569248189259.html">reports</a>. Calling itself an ‘internet restaurant company’, Rebel Foods runs restaurants like Faasos, Behrouz Biryani, Oven Story and more. It recently raised a funding of $25 million from Goldman Sachs along with existing investors Lightbox, Sequoia and others. But Kalanick is also hiring for his own venture called Cloud Kitchens. A look at the<a href="https://www.cloudkitchens.com/careers/"> careers</a> page of the company’s website will show that the startup is looking for real estate development managers across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. It’s also looking for a project manager for the India region. In 2018, Kalanick had <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/For-his-next-act-former-Uber-CEO-Travis-Kalanick-is-quietly-building-a-new-kind-of-food-delivery-service/articleshow/68000681.cms">acquired</a> controlling stake in real estate startup City Storage Systems and announced himself as the CEO. He had made the investment through his fund 10100. City Storage Systems runs Cloud Kitchens, where they take up real estate spaces in a city and set up kitchens for restaurants to operate out of and run a delivery service. Kalanick maintained a low profile since his very public exit from Uber, a company that he built which recently went for one of the world’s biggest IPOs. Kalanick exited from Uber following a series of scandals involving sexual harassment at work to the crazy Silicon Valley parties and his work culture.

When <keyword id="1739133" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Travis-Kalanick">Travis Kalanick</keyword>, founder &amp; CEO of <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, chose a bus ride over an Uber to travel to IIT Bombay, he was welcomed with a roaring applaud. He then talked to Ronnie Screwvala in an auditorium that had over 3,000 students. 
 
During the session that lasted for an hour-and-a-half, Kalanick talked about how jugaading, or hustling as they call it in America, is required to be a successful entrepreneur. 
 
Kalanick, who had founded Scour and Red Swoosh before he conceived the idea of Uber, said that his co-founders had a lot to offer to him in all these ventures, and shared that complementing skill sets is an important yardstick while picking a business partner. 
 
On being asked what if an entrepreneur isn’t a good story tellers who can articulate their vision and ideas to investors and customers, he said that then one probably should get a co-founder who can do the same. 
 
"At Uber, we say, 'Always be hustling'. Even if you are an introvert and you haven't got hustle in you, you better get a co-founder who does. And if you haven't got enough hustle to find a co-founder who's got hustle, it's going to be tough. You've got to have a little hustle in you. Get out there and make s**t happen," he addressed the audience. 
 
He also shared his belief in a business being ideal with two co-founders, so that “your job doesn't get lonely and that you get to keep 50 per cent of the company.” 
 
Comparing running a business to playing chess, he said, "You are playing chess and you are doing it 80 hours a week. You should know the layout of the board and you should be five or six moves ahead.” 
 
He further said that one needs to be a good listener when investors come in, once a month or a quarter, wanting to give advice. "But they can't just come in and look at the chess board and have any freaking idea what the right move is. Because they don't even play chess," he says. 
 
Giving similar hustler fixes to CEOs who run multi-billion dollar businesses in Silicon Valley, he advises not replying to emails from investors right way. 
 
"Like almost to the point that investors forget. And when they remind you about the email, you respond. Then they get into this learned sort of thing, where they ask fewer and fewer questions," he said, to much applause from the audience. 
 
On a serious note, he said that even though his journey sounds fun, “it's only fun after like five years of therapy or something." 
 
Revealing that he is also Uber's recruiter-in-chief, he asked students to write to him regardless of the fact if they are dropouts or like the idea of graduating.

He was supposed to take a flight from Beijing in China to New Delhi but it was only when he reached the new Delhi airport that he realized he didn't have a visa! 
 He says it was a tough time getting in the country. So he called the head of NITI Aayog <keyword id="6358887" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Kant">Amitabh Kant</keyword> to get him in the country but it wasn't as simple, as Kant had to call the officials at the external affairs ministry in the middle of the night to let him enter India. After a lot of back and forth in the govt offices in the middle of the night he could final step out of the airport without a visa. 
 
Well clearly, now we now know what Kalanick wants he gets.

 This will also support <keyword id="4082512" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ubers-operations-in-South-Asia">Uber's operations in South Asia</keyword> since the company is developing India as a regional hub of sorts for the region. The new centre could be used for providing both rider and driver support, apart from developing custom solutions for India and the adjoining markets, according to officials privy to the development. 
 Other than that, <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> is also expanding its centre in Hyderabad, which was so far only providing support services, and is currently on the lookout for engineering talent. The new centre will be Uber's third in India, which is also its third-largest market. While Hyderabad provides all kind of support to riders as well as drivers, the existing <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> centre will be the company's engineering hub. 
 
"While we can't comment on specific expansion plans, we can confirm that we will continue to invest here as we see tremendous potential for the future of ride-sharing,” a spokesperson for the company told ET. 
 Uber has already committed $1billion in India and the firm's cofounder <keyword id="1739133" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Travis-Kalanick">Travis Kalanick</keyword>, during his visit to the country last January, had said that the company would double its pledged investment if it sees more than five times the return. After Uber sold off its China operations to Didi Chuxing earlier this year, it has further accelerated its efforts in India. 
 
In the past one year, the company has rolled out several features that are specific to India such as cash payments, dial an Uber and call centre support for drivers. 
 
"We are also building a product and engineering team in Bengaluru, which will, over the next six months or so, swell to 100 people. We have opened up a big support facility in Hyderabad, with around 350-400 people. The team in the country has grown significantly from 100 people 12-months-ago to 800 people now," Jain had said. 
 
After launching in Sri Lanka late last year, Uber started operations in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in mid-November. Both rider and driver support for these locations are handled by Hyderabad centre.
