Italy- the land of pizzas, pastas and gelato- is also one of the most visited place in the world. Any traveler's bucket list features Italy and by default, the centre of the roman empire –Rome. While most of us have visited <keyword id="6356059" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rome">Rome</keyword> or are planning to venture out in the city that houses the <keyword id="1248508" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Colosseum">Colosseum</keyword>, we will probably have the same experience as any other tourist around the world.  A new perspective On my recent trip to Rome, I found myself in the middle of a quiet area in the city called <keyword id="1280874" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trastevere">Trastevere</keyword>. Airbnb has introduced trips on its platform which means existing and new local guides can give an insight into living in the city, no matter where you are. I chose to partake my time at an unusual tour which involved walking around the city, with a camera and taking shots of untouched places of Rome ending with a shot of the Italian expresso or the gelato. This sounded right up my alley except I wondered if the camera could be my smartphone because it is usually my only companion. Turns out, I could bring anything that captures moments, so off I went. Famous for its narrow cobbled streets lined with ancient houses, Trastevere is the 13th district of Rome, situated on the west bank of the <keyword id="2215628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tiber-River">Tiber River</keyword>. Its name comes from a Latin phrase meaning “beyond the Tiber”.

]]></cdata></div> While we waited for our trip host <keyword id="4449655" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="antonis">Antonis</keyword>, we looked around the Piazza di San Cosimato where the local market is displayed from morning till noon. Living like a local Smiling from ear to ear, Antonis appeared and then after quick introductions. we went up the cobblestone alleys to <keyword id="4804003" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="san-pietro">San Pietro</keyword> in Montorio. This gem is considered the first great building of the High Renaissance and Bramante’s sublime Little Temple is squeezed into the courtyard of the Chiesa di San Pietro in Montorio, on the spot where St Peter is said to have been crucified.

 Antonis taught us simple skills to improve mobile photography as we walked enchanted by the Italian way of life. After clicking more informed pictures, we headed to the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola which is said to be the inspiration to the Trevi Fountain. Antonis was kind enough to take multiple shots of us and even gave us a momento in form of personal polariod pictures. We hiked up a little further to enjoy the aeriel city view from Gianicolo hill and the best part of it all was feeling the wind of change in a part of the city which isn’t tainted by tourists. We proceeded to Santa Maria di Trastevere which is in the heart of this district. This church is unlike any other Roman church with a large 13th century mosaic covering the walls and ceilings of the church, making it a truly breathtaking sight. We ended our walk at <keyword id="4804002" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="san-calisto">San Calisto</keyword>'s bar which is Antonis’ favourite and as he’s been living in the city longer than his home back in <keyword id="6357856" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="greece">Greece</keyword>, we believe him.

Ending on a sweet note The bar has unmistakably the best gelato in town and I opted for an ‘Affogato’ which is combination of an expresso shot and gelato usually vanilla or chocolate flavoured. As we walked back to the point where we started from, Antonis offered me his own gelato and I felt like a true Italian who isn’t shy of treating themselves. The three hour tour is too short if you ask me as you can spend hours appreciating the city of Rome the way Romans do. As Antonis says, there’s so much to see in Rome, you can never run out. Public TransportRome has a decent network of <a href="https://www.atac.roma.it" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">public transport </a>(buses, trams, and metros). All you need is a validated ticket and patience. Google Maps provides the most updated arrival times and directions, distances, and connections. The 48-hour and 72-hour public transport passes cover bus, metro, and tram, and can be purchased at newsstands, tabacchi (tobacco and convenience store), and metro and train stations. I've lived in Rome for 2 decades — here are 11 places that I think have the best food in the city

It's an icon.Commissioned to note the end of the&#xa0;Acqua Paola acqueduct, it's a brilliant, white marble&#xa0;fountain with intricate illustrations carved into the rock. It's the setting of the opening scene of "The Great Beauty," a film by Paolo Sorrentino celebrating the city.And on July 8, 2016, some tourists frolicked in bikinis in its waters - and incensed the local population.The temperature in Rome was as high at 92 degrees Fahrenheit that day, so it makes sense that tourists would want to splash around in an extremely walkable fountain.&#xa0;Locals were angry. The local&#xa0;magazine <a href="https://twitter.com/TrastevereRM/status/751448467134881792/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">Trastevere posted on Twitter</a>, "It is very hot but the [Fontana]&#xa0;cannot become a pool for&#xa0;tourists. Rome deserves more respect!"<div></div>"I think it's disgusting and indecent nude in the city, each fountain in Rome is&#xa0;a work of art," <a href="https://twitter.com/ilucian2/status/751717013672828928">one local commented on the tweet</a>. It's art.Adrian Cozzani: "I identify as a time artisan."At Polvere di Tempo - which means "dust of time" - each piece requires painstaking precision and patience.Fernando Teixeira and Izabela CardosoAdrian Cozzani has been making timepieces for 30 years at his shop in Rome.First, Adrian builds the structure for the outside of the hourglass. Once he installs the glass, he fills it with thousands of grains of sand.But before he puts the finishing touches on the hourglass, he needs to test it. Cozzani: "Sometimes, when I'm almost done, everything is working, and then it suddenly stops and I have to dismantle everything."And this self-proclaimed time artisan has none to waste. He keeps one eye on the timer while working on other pieces.Cozzani: "I compare hourglass-making to meditation. It's simple but it's not easy, because there are a lot of unpredictable elements."Over 40 years ago, Adrian put aside his degree in architecture to come from Argentina to Italy, where a fascination became a calling.Cozzani: "At one point I asked myself if I should do what I loved: work with my hands, crafting objects. I visited a museum in Milan that probably has the largest collection of sundials in Europe. I got absolutely charmed by this world, and it was when I decided to build these objects."And while crafting these sundials and hourglasses might seem like devotion to a bygone era, to Adrian they're more relevant than ever.Cozzani: "Today, we live fundamentally in the virtual world. I think people buy these instruments because they put them in touch with reality."But the reality of making a profit off his passion was another matter.Fernando Teixeira and Izabela CardosoPolvere di Tempo has become a tourist destination.Cozzani: I obviously needed to catch people's attention somehow. I started by incorporating maps, maps and globes. It took around 10 years to become profitable. It's been getting better lately because I'm on a lot of tour guides around the world."Curating the unique atmosphere for his shop is just as important as his craft.Cozzani: "This is a spontaneous place, not something staged. Today, almost every new business is the same: same brands, same stores, same look. Absolute standardization. Here, people see there is no pattern. These are distinguished, intriguing pieces, and that's what catches the eye."It has been time and effort well spent: Tourists flock to the shop to take a piece of Rome home - for anywhere from $10 to over $700.Cozzani: This is to?Customer: This one is for Julie. It said earlier he had not been seen since about 1 a.m on Friday morning, when he had left a pub in the Italian capital, just hours after arriving in Rome.Early reports said Solomon had suffered a head wound and his shirt was bloodied.
