<keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, Chairman Emeritus of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, has recently invested an undisclosed amount in <keyword id="2779670" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tracxn">Tracxn</keyword>, the Bengaluru-based startup intelligence platform. 
 
With this development,Tracxn has joined the list of almost two dozen startups and tech companies that Tata has backed in the past two years, including Snapdeal, Ola Cabs, Paytm, Urbanladder, Xiaomi, UrbanClap and DogSpot. 
 
He is also involved with venture capital firms like Kalaari Capital, IDG Ventures India and Jungle Ventures in the capacity of an advisor. 
Talking of Tracxn, it has raised angel funding from Flipkart's co-founders Sachin and Binny Bansal, Delhivery's CEO Sahil Barua and $3.5 million in series-A funding from SAIF Partners. 
 
The company was founded in 2013 by former venture capital investors Neha Singh (ex-Sequoia Capital) and Abhishek Goyal (ex-Accel Partners), and tracks over 100 sectors including enterprise infrastructure, enterprise applications, technology, consumer, mobile, digital marketing, health, education. 
 <keyword id="2928014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tracxn-Labs">Tracxn Labs</keyword>, an angel invest fund, and <keyword id="3401467" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tracxn-Syndicate">Tracxn Syndicate</keyword>, an angel investment group are also run by Tracxn, putting it in competition with Let's Venture, which is another fundraising platform that has been backed by Tata. 
 
In its clientele, Tracxn boasts of venture capital funds, private equity firms and corporate development teams who use the services provided by the company it to spot investment, merger and strategic partnership opportunities in different sectors. Some of these names include Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, SoftBank, Google Capital, VMWare, GE and LG. 
 
In the past one year, Tracxn has increased its number of analysts assigned to exclusively tracking startups from 25 to 125. The client base has also seen a 400% increase to over 300 customers across 20 countries in the past 12 months. 
 
"Ratan Tata is a trusted household name &amp; his way of building things has played a critical role in how our thoughts shaped up in early days of our lives," Goyal told ET. "As we rapidly expand across geographies, his unconventional ways of building large companies with high diversity will be very useful," he continued.

New Delhi, May 18 () Agritech startup Eggoz, which is into the business of egg production, has raised Rs 2.5 crore from investors to fund its expansion plans. Founded in December 2017, the startup is a full-stack egg producer of nutrition-rich eggs. It operates a network of poultry farms in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Eggoz has raised Rs 2.5 crore as part of its seed funding. It had earlier secured Rs 1.2 crore from a clutch of angel investors. The seed funding round saw participation of investors like Tracxn Labs, Angellist, Tri-Deep Capital, founders of Letstransport, and angel investors along with existing investors - Narendra Sankar, Sunil Mishra, and Vishal Sharma, the company said. Eggoz has so far sold over two crore eggs and has more than 1,00,000 birds under management. It has developed a new farming model for small-scale commercial egg farming. With Eggoz's technology and integration platform, farmers can rear flock sizes starting from 500 birds at affordable initial investment and less land requirement," said Uttam Kumar, founder of the company. With these efforts, Eggoz poultry farming is one of the most profitable and stable businesses to generate allied income for many marginal farmers as well as to fulfill protein-enriched food requirement of the growing population, Kumar added. Eggoz works with farmers at several locations in north India, using nutritional engineering and technology. Abhishek Goyal, Founder of Tracxn Labs, said: "India's egg supply chain is largely unorganised. There is an opportunity for a player to implement best practices in production and create a trustworthy consumer brand. We were quite impressed by the founding team passion to solve this market."  Around 800 start-ups founded after 2011 have shut shop already, signaling a deteriorating health of the sector, according to data analyst firm Tracxn. The year 2015 had seen an 87 percent increase in the number of <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> being founded, the number dropped by 67 percent in 2016. <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Funding">Funding</keyword> has also decreased in 2016 by around 47.7 per cent.

Misses 
 
1) A lot of entrepreneurs and investors think that demonetization and the lack of exits in start-ups by investors are adding to the gloom; After demonetisation, the investors are afraid to exit their investment due to slump in the IPO (initial public offering) market. 
 
2) Anyone who has business sense knows that only a few of start-ups will be profitable in the first three years and so this handful can avail themselves of the tax break. 
 
3) When it comes to the ‘fund of funds’ under the initiative, Rs500 crore has already been provided as fund corpus in 2015-16 and Rs. 600 crore has been earmarked for 2016-2017. 
 Cumbersome procedures to access funds from the Rs. 10, 000 Cr. corpus have, however, made the plan a non-starter and <keyword id="6391656" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIDBI">Sidbi</keyword> has committed only Rs. 129 crore to VCs so far so the progress has been slow. 
 
4) There is still no exemption is MAT (Minimum Alternate Tax) which could’ve helped businesses to cut losses. 
 
Budget Expectations 
 
This year’s Budget to be announced next month is expected to be a big one for start-ups. 
 
The startup ecosystem is expecting the government to announce initiatives to support them like: 
 
1) Widening of the tax-free regime to five years from three years 2) Online payments through net banking, <keyword id="6358921" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPI">UPI</keyword>, credit and debit cards may get tax exemptions.
