After the Supreme Court banned registration of diesel vehicles with engine size of 2 litres or more for three months, automakers have gone into frenzy. 
 
So much so that the Indian arm of Toyota is mulling to bring petrol version of its diesel vehicles like Innova and Fortuner. 
 
It is also planning to also have petrol version of all its cars in future so that such temporary bans do not affect its sales. 
 
TS Jaishankar, deputy managing director-commercial at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, told ET, "When we started selling the Innova, we had made available a petrol version. It was discontinued as demand was largely diesel-driven. We have to see now ...If it warrants, we have to git back. 
Enquiries in Delhi have dropped since the ban came into force. The NCR accounts for 14% of our total sales. We are exploring options to bring in petrol versions of the Innova and the Fortuner." 
 
As per reports, every year around 4,00,000 diesel vehicles with heavy engines are sold in India, out of which 5-8% are sold in the NCR. 
 
Meanwhile, the automakers are moved the Supreme Court to appeal against the ban. 
 
Toyota said that over 53% of vehicles registered in the National Capital Territory of Delhi are of BS I and BS II standards, or more polluting than the newer ones. 
 Even <keyword id="6357096" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-Mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> is worst hit as it has only diesel SUVs. It may also join Toyota soon.

Haunted by SC temporary diesel ban, Toyota, Mahindra may come out with petrol versions of SUVs

New Delhi, Jan 6 () Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Monday said it has commenced bookings for BS-VI compliant version of Innova Crysta which is priced between Rs 15.36 lakh and Rs 24.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
 Supply of the model will begin next month onwards, across the country, subject to BS-VI fuel availability, TKM said in a statement.
 The petrol and diesel variants of the BS-VI compliant Innova Crysta will be available in both manual as well as automatic transmission options, it added.
 "At Toyota, we are committed to bring advanced and environment-friendly technologies to the Indian market and align our concerted efforts with the government's policies to create a greener and cleaner tomorrow," TKM Senior Vice President, Sales and Service Naveen Soni said.
 The company has opened bookings for the model at a celebratory price for a limited time period, he added.
 Vehicle stability control, hill assist control and emergency brake signal now come as standard feature across the Innova Crysta range.
 Pioneering the MPV segment in India for the last 15 years, the Innova has sold close to 9,00,000 units since its launch in 2005.
 The company has sold close to 2.7 lakh units of the Innova Crysta so far, registering about 40 per cent of share in its segment, TKM said.

Upcoming Toyota Cars in India - Vellfire premium MPV to launch on February 26

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/52940467.cms" /> <keyword id="2776768" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vitara-Brezza">Vitara Brezza</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki's new compact SUV, and Innova Crysta, updated version of Toyota Kirloskar Motor's multipurpose vehicle Innova, have made it to the top-10 best selling passenger vehicle (PV) models for last month. 
 
The list now has six names in the list, as compared to four in May 2015. 
 
As per data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association (SIAM), Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza took the tenth spot in the month of May. The list was topped by entry level model Alto. 
 
Dzire, Maruti’s sedan, grabbed the second spot by selling 14,413 units, just ahead of Maruti’s Wagon R and Swift, which took the third and fourth spot by selling 13,231 and 12,355 units.

Vitara Brezza and Innova Crysta have made it to May’s top-selling list

New Delhi, Jan 12 () Toyota Kirloskar Motor expects auto industry growth to pick up only in the third quarter of this year as consumers would try to understand the new BS-VI technology and associated cost increases when it is implemented in April, according to a senior company official.
 The company, which had recently launched the BS-VI version of its popular multi-purpose vehicle Innova Crysta, said it will be rolling out diesel variants of other models such as Fortuner by the end of this month or early February.
 "At least for the first two quarters, for the customers it is going to be understanding of the new technology. The fundamentals are strong, so by the third quarter it should start picking up," Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Senior Vice-President (Sales &amp; Service) Naveen Soni told .
 He was responding to a query on the outlook for 2020 for the auto industry in general and also for the company in the backdrop of the transition to BS-VI emission norms from April 1.
 The automobile industry recorded its worst-ever sales decline in two decades in 2019, with an unprecedented slowdown hampering vehicle offtake across segments. The overall wholesale of vehicles declined 13.77 per cent to 2,30,73,438 units as against 2,67,58,787 units in 2018.
 Soni said TKM has taken a conscious decision of not passing the entire cost increase due to the transition and absorb for sometime so as not to make it difficult for customers.
 Citing the example of the BS-VI Innova Crysta, which the company has introduced at a price range of Rs 15.36 lakh to Rs 24.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), he said,"The main challenge was that if we had passed on the entire cost to the market it would have been a real big step up...If there was a steep price hike it would have been very difficult for the consumer to understand."
 Therefore, he said, "We have passed on less than 50 per cent of the cost impact due to BS-VI to the market and taken the hit on the company side."
 However, he added, "How long can we absorb is a big question. That's why we are calling it a limited introductory offer (for Innova Crysta). If we do this for a long time, sustainability will be an issue and at the same time we do understand that the customer will find it extremely difficult if we transfer the entire amount. So we will have to watch the market."
 Commenting on the company's production plans for the transition, he said, "We have been controlling and we have to further control as we have to taper out BS-IV and bring in BS-VI.
 "Wholesales will be less this month as we don't want any of our dealers to hold inventory when we have the transition to BS-VI that could lead to fire sales and unnecessary discounts."
 While rolling out of BS-VI compliant petrol vehicles is not an issue, Soni said it was not the same for diesel vehicles as availability of fuel across India is critical because BS-VI diesel engines cannot run on BS-IV diesel fuel.
 "We are ready with the BS-VI technology for diesel cars but the challenge is of the availability of fuel. So vehicle availability will depend on fuel availability. In petrol there is no such issue. Our Yaris, Glanza and Camry models are meeting BS-VI (standards)," he said.
 On diesel, Soni added, "We have to be careful and we are monitoring what will be the fuel availability across the country. So by end of this month or early next month we will start rolling out diesel version of BS-VI."
 For Fortuner and Crysta, he said the company is also still producing BS-IV version of the petrol variants, which account for 10-15 per cent of total sales.
 "Towards the end of this month, we will start producing BS-VI version of these models as well," he added. RKL ABM

Expect auto sales to pick up in third quarter of 2020: Toyota Kirloskar

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="1381889" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Honda-Cars-India">Honda Cars India</keyword> on Wednesday launched its new Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), the Mobilio at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The petrol car will cost Rs 6.49 lakh for the E variant; Rs 7.50 lakh for S variant and Rs 8.76 lakh for the V variant. 
 The diesel variants have been priced between Rs 7.89 lakh to Rs 10.86 lakh. The seven-seater MVP will take on the likes of Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Ertiga, <keyword id="292083" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Mahindra-Xylo">Mahindra Xylo</keyword>, Nissan Evalia and even the <keyword id="6374528" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Toyota">Toyota</keyword> Innova. Its closest competitor, the Ertiga petrol starts at Rs. 5.8 lakh and goes up to to Rs. 7.3 lakh while Diesel starts at Rs. 7.22 lakh and goes up to Rs. 8.49 lakh. 
 <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> said that the name Mobilio has been coined from English words mobility and mobile. Honda Mobilio's deliveries will begin from today. 
 
The Honda Mobilio MPV is 4.4-metre long with a wheelbase of 2.6-metre and has a ground clearance of 185mm. While it looks similar to the Amaze sedan and Brio hatchback, it manages to be distinct with its stretched out proportions and non-boxy looks. The Mobilio looks the most distinct from the rear as all resemblance to the hatch and a sedan ends with a new set of tail lamps and plenty of curves. 
 
Moving to the interior - the Mobilio gets a two-tone colour scheme, which makes the cabin feel roomy. The seats are flexible with plenty of storage space, with a generous amount of cabin space and good amount of headroom. What is impressive is that even the third row seat gets adequate knee room and can be used for long drives. The interior of the Mobilio is similar to what we have on the Brio and Amaze. 
 
The entertainment system has been lifted from the new City, which also serves as a screen for the reversing camera on the top end variant of the car. The top end variant also gets faux wood fittings on the dash and the door, and faux leather seats. Base cargo are is at 223 L which can be enhanced to 512L in the third row fold configuration.

The Mobilio will be powered by the new 1.5-litre turbocharged Earth Dreams diesel engine that does duty on the Amaze and City churning out power of 100ps@3600 rpm and torque of 200 Nm@ 1750 rpm. The diesel engine continues to be noisy but Honda has done a better job in insulating the noise out in the Mobilio. 
 
The petrol variant gets the 1.5-litre i-VTEC unit producing a power of 119ps@6600 rpm and 145Nm of torque and is peppy and is the same that powers the City. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Mobilio also gets a bolder and sportier looking sport version in the form of RS, which comes with dynamic front and rear bumpers, projector headlamps with LED position lamps. Alloy wheels, chrome grille, tailgate spoiler and chrome exterior door handles. The RS will be available for deliveries by September 2014. 
 
The Mobilio has been developed at Honda R&amp;D Asia Pacific Co. Ltd in Bangkok, Thailand. "Honda has vast experience in offering a variety of premium MPVs to customers globally. Drawing from this varied experience, Honda engineers have used the same technological know-how and design philosophy to develop the Mobilio," said Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, Managing Officer, Honda Motor Company. The Mobilio has been launched in Indonesia in January this year and has clocked 46,000 units in sales. Honda expects sales of Asia Pacific to be at 1.2 million by 2017 and HCIL is expected to contribute 25 percent or 300,000 units in sales by then. The Mobilio is being manufactured at the company's Greater Noida plant and has 90 percent localization. HCIL is also expanding its dealer network to 230 facilities in 150 cities by end of 2014-14, with 75 percent coming up in smaller towns and cities.

The MG Comet EV is a rebadged version of the Wuling Air EV sold in the Indonesian market. Maruti Suzuki may launch the C-MPV in late 2023 at an expected price of around ₹20 lakh. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:16pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">Nissan X-trail</h3>Nissan recently unveiled the fourth generation of the X-Trail. The Nissan X-Trail is expected to be launched in mid-2023. The X-Trail is an SUV by Nissan that will have two variants of hybrid systems: Strong Hybrid and Mild Hybrid. The car is expected to be launched at around ₹40 lakhs. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:16pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">Nissan Qashqai</h3>The Nissan Qashqai is an SUV based on the CMF-C platform, which was jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The Qashqai is expected to have a 1.3L petrol engine supported by a Mild-Hybrid power motor. The car is expected to be launched at around ₹30 lakhs. The Qashqai is expected to be launched after the Nissan X-Trail so we can expect its launch in late 2023 or early 2024.

Best upcoming electric and hybrid cars in India

New Delhi, Mar 16 () South Korean auto major Hyundai is preparing to have a crack again at the premium SUV segment in India dominated by Toyota's Fortuner as part of plans to strengthen overall leadership in the segment, according to a top company official. The company, which on Monday launched the all-new version of its popular SUV Creta with price between Rs 9.9-17.2 lakh, is also planning to bring "multi-seater high occupancy vehicle" to play in multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment currently dominated by the likes of Toyota's Innova Crysta, Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga and Kia's new entrant Carnival. "We are very cautiously studying the feasibility of having something in that segment. In the past we tried to enter into that segment many times but were not successful due to various reasons," Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO S S Kim told . He was responding to a query on whether the company has given up the premium segment of SUV where it used to sell SantaFe model and competed with the likes of Toyota Furtuner and Ford Endeavour. "We are studying and reviewing the segment and demand, customer response and their preference. If we come up with some solution we might be much more concrete in the matter but right now we are only studying," Kim said. Commenting on the company's resolve to maintain leadership in the SUV segment, he said with four SUVs -- Creta, Venue, Kona and Tucson -- HMIL was able to become the market leader in the second half of last year at a time when the previous generation Creta was on the decline and the Venue was newly introduced. "Now, we definitely want to maintain this leadership," he said adding SUVs contribute 33 per cent to HMIL's total sales, while in 2019 the SUV segment contributed 25 per cent of industry passenger vehicle sales. According to SIAM, in the April-February period this fiscal, utility vehicle sales stood at 8,94,441 units as compared to 8,48,268 units in the year-ago period, a growth of 5.44 per cent. Exuding confidence on the new Creta to withstand competition from new challengers like Kia Seltos and MG Motor Hector, Kim said the model has a strong brand equity in the Indian market having sold over 5 lakh units. "I would say that our new Creta will be quite superior in terms of features and performance of vehicle. We are quite sure that it will be welcomed by the customer and successful in terms of customer and dealer response," he said adding HMIL has already received over 14,000 bookings in just over a week of opening without its full priced being disclosed. HMIL along with its vendors had invested close to Rs 1,500 crore in the development of the second generation Creta. When asked about the gap in HMIL's portfolio in the MPV segment, he said,"Our approach has much more focus on high occupancy vehicle type. So, they can be covered by MPV, but at the same time they can be covered by any multi-seater vehicle." When asked for details, Kim said,"We are considering both the options. Working on premium SUV, MPV: Hyundai Motor India

Mahindra does not want to get affected due to the new tax levied on big <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=SUVs&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">SUVs</a> and is tinkering with Bolero, which is its top selling model. 
 The <keyword id="2536880" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-bolero">new Bolero</keyword> will have a 1.5-litre engine, which is presently powered by a 2.5-litre <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=diesel+engine&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">diesel engine.</a> 
 
The renewed mean machine is expected to launch in later half of the year. 
 
Mahindra’s Bolero still sells nearly 7,000 units a month of sales and the makeover will also keep the machine in the market. 
 
"This attempt may also help Mahindra make up for a partial margin loss on account of phasing out of incentives at Haridwar plant, without tinkering with the vehicle price. On the other hand, the new variant also helps in keeping the brand alive in the market," one of the several people in the know of the company's plans told ET. 
 Meanwhile, Mahindra is also working on a 7-seat version of the <keyword id="2976940" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TUV-300">TUV 300</keyword>, called <keyword id="3302383" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="U302">U302</keyword>, which will compete with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=innova&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Toyota Innova</a> and U341.

Mahindra’s Bolero is getting a makeover

Auto Expo, the bi-annual auto event in India, is starting from February 5, and thanks to its rising popularity, it’s all set to launch a record number of products. 
 
The vehicles to be launched in this year’s Auto Expo include 85 passenger cars, utility vehicles, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles. In comparison to the last show, the number has grown over one-fifth, while it’s doubled if we see the data of 2012. 
 The organisers, <keyword id="82374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Society-of-Indian-Automobile-Manufacturers">Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers</keyword> (<keyword id="108827" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SIAM">SIAM</keyword>), is expecting a daily crowd of 1,00,000 people on an average, making it the biggest show among all auto shows that happen around the globe. 
 Out of all these impending launches, the one that’s been the most awaited is that of <keyword id="2776768" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vitara-Brezza">Vitara Brezza</keyword>, from Maruti Suzuki. The country's largest car maker would be making the global premiere of the compact sport-utility vehicle, in the presence of <keyword id="3058572" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="T-Suzuki">T Suzuki</keyword>, the president of Maruti's Japanese parent Suzuki Motor. 
 Other top executives expected to grace the auto show include Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Asia Pacific COO <keyword id="1131020" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Michael-Manley">Michael Manley</keyword>, Jaguar Land Rover CEO <keyword id="224588" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ralf-Speth">Ralf Speth</keyword> and Isuzu Chairman <keyword id="2790078" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hiroyasu-Miura">Hiroyasu Miura</keyword>. 
 
If the industry sources are to be believed, Maruti will also showcasing Ignis, which is a compact car with the design language of an SUV. Ignis is reported to take on Renault's Kwid, which has been garnering praises ever since its launch. 
 
Renault, on the other hand, would be launching two more versions of Kwid, one being a clutchless AMT version and the other with a 1-litre engine. The French car maker wants to take the position of Alto, which is Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling small car. Reportedly, Renault would also launch an upgraded version of its popular SUV Duster. 
 
Chrysler, the American automobile manufacturer would be stepping in the country for the first time, with Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Tata's Nexon, Honda's BR-V, Datsun's redi-Go, Mercedes GLC unnamed global SUV and Tivoli from Mahindra &amp; Mahindra's South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong would also see the light of the day at the show. Hyundai’s Tucson, Toyota’s new Innova and M&amp;M's new Quanto are also in line to be unveiled. 
 
Cars to be launched under the small car and sedan segments include General Motors’ upgraded version of the Beat small car and Cruze, a new premium sedan, Fiat’s Tipo, Volkswagen’s entry-level sedan based on its already existing Polo, and Tata Motors’ sedan Sway. 
In the luxury segment, Tata JLR would be bringing out the new sports saloon Jaguar XE and SUV F-Pace. Audi will be taking the covers off the new R8, Audi Prologue concept and the Audi A8 L.
