According to the latest report by jobs portal Naukri.com, online tutors are in high demand as recruiters want a workforce comfortable with using digital media. The requirement for online teachers has gone up by eight times in January to July 2021 as compared to the same period in 2020. During the second wave of the pandemic, the overall job market for the education/teaching profession saw a decline, as per the report. However, there is a recovery with an upward growth trajectory from June 2021 onwards with robust sequential growth, revealed the report. Business Insider brings you several job openings in edtech companies for online tutors. 1. <keyword id="3395125" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cuemath" source="Orion">Cuemath</keyword> The online platform for after-school math and coding for classes K-12 is hiring online tutors for math and coding. Requirements — Candidates must have a laptop/desktop with Windows 10 OS or Mac and a stable internet connection with speed of more than 15 mbps. Eligibility criteria for Math — Applicants must have done Bachelor’s or Master’s in Technology (B.Tech or M.Tech)/Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering (B.E or M.E)/Bachelor’s or Master’s of Business Administration (BBA or MBA). Eligibility criteria for Coding — Any bachelor’s degree with basic knowledge of coding concepts. Freshers can also apply. 2. <keyword id="6361651" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Toppr" source="Orion">Toppr</keyword> Home-grown edtech platform for preparation of school exams, CBSE and competitive exams like Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) etc. is scouting online tutors for these subjects — Biology, Chemistry, Hindi, English. Eligibility criteria — Candidates must hold a master’s or PhD in a relevant subject they are applying for. 3. Codingal The startup, which was launched last year is looking for teachers who have the right expertise to teach coding to young kids. Requirements — Laptop/desktop with a stable internet connection. Eligibility Criteria — Candidates should be from coding background or have a degree in computer science. 4. Aakash Edutech Institute Aakash Edutech by <keyword id="190117" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aakash-Institute" source="Orion">Aakash Institute</keyword>, known for the preparation of JEE, NEET and other competitive exams is hiring online faculty for Mathematics. Selection Procedure — An online written test will be conducted along with demo round discussion and final round discussion. Eligibility criteria — Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in teaching in online/offline mode. 5. INSAID E-learning platform, which offers courses related to artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science is inviting Data Science Trainer. Eligibility criteria — The candidate must have 2-5 years of experience in technical training with strong command over any one programming language -- Python, R, .NET, Java. 6. Chegg The global e-learning platform is scouting for Subject Matter Expert — Mathematics. Eligibility criteria — Candidate must have an M.Sc in mathematics or applied mathematics with strong knowledge of the subject. Freshers can also apply. 7. Jigsaw Academy The Bengaluru-based platform for artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science is hiring an information technology (IT) training manager. Eligibility criteria — Candidate should have 4-12 years of experience in IT industry or teaching IT-related subjects along with a degree in B.Tech/BE/MCA/MBA/MSc IT/M. Tech. 8.Camp K12 The ed-tech startup, which offers courses in coding for kids, is scouting for a Coding Instructor. With this, Snapdeal has study material of 20 school boards including ICSE, CBSE, and IB for classes 5-12 covering more than 100 subjects. Maths and science material is the most popular among these. Competitive exam test prep material for engineering, medical and commerce is also available. JEE Main, NEET, CA, NDA, and CS study material are a hit on Snapdeal. State police constable exam mock tests are also picked widely across the country. Courses in python, data structures, and SQL are well liked. Consumer behaviour, social media marketing, customer analytics, equity research, and logistics management courses are also being tried by Snapdeal shoppers. During the lockdown, Snapdeal has seen a significant increase in the orders for books for various competitive exams &amp; general academics. However, given the lockdown restrictions, delivery of these books has been slow. In view of this and looking at the growing demand for digital learning, Snapdeal has added multiple e-learning products on the platform. “Because of the disruption in the academic schedules at the school level and for those preparing for competitive exams, there is increased parental &amp; student-driven demand for supplementary learning solutions. The e-learning solutions offered on Snapdeal will enhance the overall learning experience of students in all parts of India by helping them study from the comfort of their home via digital technologies,” said Snapdeal spokesperson. As e-learning industry booms in India, Snapdeal on-boards a few players on its platform

More than 32,000 tech workers have been laid off in the US till July this year, including at Big Tech companies like <keyword id="10387" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="microsoft" source="Orion">Microsoft</keyword> and <keyword id="399907" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="meta" source="Orion">Meta</keyword> (formerly Facebook) and the worst has not been over yet for the tech sector that has seen massive stock sell-off. According to the data compiled by Crunchbase, more than 32,000 workers in the US tech sector have been laid off in mass job cuts, as of late July. "We've included both startups and publicly traded companies that are based in the US. We've also included companies based elsewhere that have a sizable team in the United States, such as Klarna," the analysis said. The layoff includes ride-sharing platform Uber, <keyword id="128682" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="netflix" source="Orion">Netflix</keyword> and several cryptocurrency exchanges and lending platforms. Robinhood, <keyword id="4522875" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="glossier" source="Orion">Glossier</keyword> and Better are just a few of the tech companies that have trimmed their headcount this year. Since April 1 this year, more than 43,000 workers from 342 tech companies/startups have been laid off across the world and over 13 per cent are from <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, according to latest data compiled by layoffs.fyi, a website that tracks layoffs in startups. In India, more than 25,000 startup workers have lost jobs since the pandemic began -- and more than 11,500 have been fired this year. The layoffs in India are dominated by edtech platforms like Unacademy (1,150 employees), BYJU'S (550 at Toppr and <keyword id="8080458" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="whitehat-jr" source="Orion">Whitehat Jr</keyword>) and <keyword id="2016957" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vedantu" source="Orion">Vedantu</keyword> (624), along with ride-hailing platform <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword> (nearly 500), healthcare startup MFine (600) and pre-owned cars platform Cars24 (600), among others. Over 32K tech workers fired in US, more than 11K in India this year

Edtech major BYJU'S on Wednesday announced several measures to bolster its <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> business, saying that its K-10 business, which includes Toppr, <keyword id="1573710" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="meritnation" source="Orion">Meritnation</keyword>, <keyword id="192259" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tutorvista" source="Orion">TutorVista</keyword>, <keyword id="14957" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="scholar" source="Orion">Scholar</keyword>, and HashLearn platforms, will now be consolidated as one business unit. To avoid redundancies and duplication of roles, the move will result in five per cent of its 50,000-strong workforce (about 2,500 people) being "rationalised across product, content, media, and technology teams in a phased manner", the company said in a statement. Aakash Educational Services and Great Learning will continue to function as separate organisations, the company said in a statement. "As a mature organisation that takes its responsibility towards investors and stakeholders seriously, we aim to ensure sustainable growth alongside strong revenue growth. These measures will help us achieve profitability in the defined time frame of March 2023," said Mrinal Mohit, CEO, BYJU'S India business. At a group level, BYJU'S said its top priority is to achieve "overall profitability by March 2023". Over the last three years, BYJU'S acquired multiple companies whose integration with its core business is now complete. BYJU'S said at the group level, it will continue to hire across all levels and will end this financial year as a net hirer. The company plans to hire a total of 10,000 more teachers in the coming year, adding to its current strength of 20,000 teachers. It said it is expanding its teams along with hiring senior leadership to further build operational strength. The company said there will also be re-targeting of the marketing budget towards more efficient growth. "Since significant brand awareness has been created in India over the past few years, there is a scope to optimise marketing budgets locally and prioritise spending to increase brand awareness in overseas markets," the company said. BYJU'S said it is also reinventing its sales model to focus more on inside sales, using video calling platforms which in turn will enhance customer experience and reduce operational costs. Multiple inside sales hubs will now be created across India from where BYJU'S sales associates will reach out to incoming leads through calls, email, and <keyword id="10296" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zoom" source="Orion">Zoom</keyword> meetings. Inside sales will lead to higher customer satisfaction and lower costs. "None of these measures will have any impact on our revenue run rate," said Mohit. After six stressful and tough months, the company's Co-founder Byju Raveendran recently said that "the worst is finally over" and there is only "growth ahead" as seen in the company's FY22 financial results, where it logged Rs 10,000 crore in gross revenues. BYJU's last month paid the remaining dues of nearly Rs 1,983 crore (over $245 million) to global VC firm Blackstone in the $1 billion acquisition of Aakash. India's highest sporting honour renamed as 'Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award'

Edtech platform <keyword id="2900267" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="byju" source="Orion">BYJU</keyword>'s on Monday said that the company has received funds from 11 out of 13 investors in a Rs 3,600 crore funding round which started in June last year. New York-based Oxshott in September 2021 invested Rs 1,200 crore as part of the Series F round at Rs 285,072 per share, which is yet to arrive. "Additionally, Oxshott wasn't leading the round. In fact, they were one of the last investors to come in for that round. Out of the total Rs 3,600 crore, Rs 2,400 crore has already come in," a company spokesperson told IANS. Other investors in the round were Edelweiss (Rs 344.9 crore), IIFL (Rs 110 crore), Verition Multi-Strategy Master Fund (Rs 147 crore), and XN Exponent Holdings (Rs 150 crore). The Morning Context first reported that "money from <keyword id="14428557" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="oxshott-capital-partners" source="Orion">Oxshott Capital Partners</keyword> or related entities for an investment has not reached the company". Oxshott <keyword id="14428559" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="venture-fund-x-llc" source="Orion">Venture Fund X LLC</keyword> and <keyword id="14428558" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="drd-holdings-sarl" source="Orion">DRD Holdings SARL</keyword> are both investment vehicles of <keyword id="14428556" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="oxshott-capital" source="Orion">Oxshott Capital</keyword>. It is common industry practice for investment funds to establish separate investment vehicles for compliance/internal structuring purposes to deploy investments. In the current case, the investor has requested that their investment be deployed through DRD Holdings SARL (instead of Oxshott Venture Fund X LLC). The fresh development came after another report recently claimed that some money in the Rs 6,300 crore private equity investment that BYJU's announced early this year has also not arrived. In March, BYJU'S had announced to raise about Rs 6,300 crore (around $800 million) from Sumeru Ventures, Vitruvian Partners, and BlackRock. <keyword id="1702989" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="byju-raveendran" source="Orion">Byju Raveendran</keyword>, Founder and CEO, was also part of the funding round and made a personal investment of $400 million. According to reports, the money from Sumeru Ventures "hasn't come in and questions are being raised about the fund's antecedents". However, BYJU'S said most of the funds have been received and the rest were on track. The company said that "its fundraising efforts are on track and majority of the $800 million has been already received". "The balance is also expected soon," a company spokesperson had told IANS. Meanwhile, the edtech giant said recently it has closed the nearly $1 billion acquisition of offline test preparatory services provider <keyword id="6380190" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aakash" source="Orion">Aakash</keyword>. The company, in a statement, said last week that its payments to Aakash are "closed" and the "audited financial results are going to be announced in the next 10 days". BYJU'S has also been in the news for laying off employees and disgruntled parents complaining about poor quality of learning material and sales pitches by agents. Late last month, BYJU's announced to cut nearly 600 jobs -- 300 employees at its Toppr learning platform and another 300 at coding platform WhiteHat Jr. "In order to reduce redundancies across our organisation after multiple acquisitions, we had to let go of nearly one per cent of our 50,000+ strong workforce," said a company spokesperson. BYJU'S also lost a case in a consumer court, where a Bengaluru man sued the company in a consumer court for providing low-quality tablets and study material to his son and daughter who were promised <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> tablets worth Rs 25,000. Further, the edtech major also backed out of its promise to convert the tuition fee of Rs 99,000 into EMIs. When the company did not pay heed to his demand of cancelling the subscription and refunding, he filed a case and won a refund of the fee of Rs 99,000 and a compensation of Rs 30,000, according to reports.
