<p>He's now +4 for the tournament. <strong>To make the cut, Guan needs to be within 10 strokes of the leader at the end of today, meaning no one can have a score better than -6.</strong></p>
<p>The leader right now is at -4.</p>
<p>This year, the Masters <a href="http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/294080/4/Masters-announces-new-cut-and-qualification-rules">tweaked the rules</a> to allow more players to make the cut. T<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">he top 50 players and everyone within 10 strokes of the lead at the end of the second round would make the cut.</span></p>
<p>That's up from 44 players last year.</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Guan is in 62nd place right now, so barring a mass implosion by the rest of the field, there's no way he makes it into the top 50.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">But it's still possible for him to be within 10 strokes of the leader.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">There are still a bunch of guys out on the course, and in all likelihood one of them will post a low number over -7 or better. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">But the course is playing much tougher than it was yesterday.</span></p>
<p>So there's still hope for Guan.</p>

Here's What It Will Take For 14-Year-Old Tianlang Guan To Make The Cut At The Masters

<p>Guan <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tianlang-guan-given-one-stroke-penalty-for-slow-play-2013-4">was given a one-stroke penalty</a> — the first penalty for slow play in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event since 1995 — and he might miss the cut because of it.</p>
<p>But he was incredibly humble in his post-match interview with ESPN. He said he respected the decision and that it won't take away from his overall experience.</p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Guan:</strong> I played a pretty good round today I think. On 17 I just got my second bad time because today's weather is not that good, the wind switches a lot, so I just had to change my club. So it was over 50 seconds.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>ESPN:</strong> What did you know about the rule before you played today?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Guan:</strong> I know the rules pretty good. But I think my routine is pretty good too. Just the wind switching, so the weather wasn't that good today. ...</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>ESPN:</strong> Do you think you deserved a stroke penalty?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Guan:</strong> I respect the decision. This is what they can do.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>ESPN:</strong> If you were to miss the cut by a single shot, how might it shape your Masters experience?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Guan:</strong> It's still a wonderful experience for me. I enjoy this week so far and I think I did a pretty good job.</p>
<p>Considering English is this guy's second language, it's a pretty remarkable and smart interview.</p>
<p>It'll be a small travesty if he misses the cut because of that penalty.</p>

14-Year-Old Golfer Gives Classy Interview After Getting Screwed At The Masters

<p>He's right on the cut line right now, so the penalty might be the difference between whether or not he makes the cut.</p>
<p>According to <keyword id="1226" type="SPORT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Golf">Golf</keyword> Digest's Ashley Mayo, Guan was warned on the 13th hole, and penalized after his second stroke on the 17th hole.</p>
<p>Guan said after the round that the wind changed on 17, so he changed clubs, and that's what made him take so long.</p>
<p>It's a joke.</p>
<p><span>According ESPN, </span>this is the first slow-play penalty in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event in 18 years<span>.</span></p>
<p>There are loads of slow players, and randomly deciding to single out a 14-year-old is truly awful. Golf Digest is reporting that <a href="https://twitter.com/GolfDigestMag/status/322783167431970817">he was given three slow-play warnings</a> before the penalty. But still, come on.</p>
<p>Also, as Jason Sobel of Golf Channel notes, <a href="https://twitter.com/JasonSobelGC/status/322785045410615296">there may have been a language barrier</a> when those warnings were given.</p>
<p>It's notable that this is Augusta National that's making the ruling, not the PGA Tour. </p>
<p>Ben Crenshaw, a 61-year-old who played with Guan and shot 12-over, said after the round, <span>"This isn't going to wind up pretty. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry this happened."</span></p>
<p>In addition to all that, the group wasn't even playing all that slow compared to their peers. The finished in 5 hours, 13 minutes. That's 14 minutes slower than the group ahead of them, but <a href="https://twitter.com/AUG_Masters/status/322787403813249024">12 minutes faster than the group behind them</a>.</p>

14-Year-Old Masters Phenom Given A Ridiculous One-Stroke Penalty For Playing Too Slow

<p>14-year-old <keyword id="1748017" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tianlang-Guan">Tianlang Guan</keyword> just shot a 3-over 75 in his second round at Augusta.</p>
<p>He hit his personal best shot of the day on the iconic par-3 12th hole. He ended up missing the birdie putt, but this tee shot was superb.</p>
