Being an ever-evolving field of academia, the studies coming out in this domain have always been subjected to cherry-picking of data and misinterpreting the findings. So, will AI be able to navigate this challenge, especially considering the recent episodes of AI hallucinations even among the most advanced large language models? AI definitely holds promise to make affordable healthcare a reality at warp speed, but how could we make it safe if the training data itself is ambiguous? <h2>Dealing with <keyword id="18230708" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI-hallucination" source="Orion">AI hallucination</keyword> </h2>It’ll be a hot while before we purge our minds of the memory of a Google AI search result stating that it was perfectly normal for 5-10 cockroaches to crawl into your penis hole and that this was how they got the name “cock” roach. We can argue this point by saying that AI is only supposed to support the healthcare system and not uproot it. But in a country like India, where we tend to rely on the pharmacist’s advice instead of a doctor’s appointment to save time and money, over-reliance on AI healthcare tools could be a real problem. However, Dr Ranney stresses on how this could serve as the first tier of health advice. It would certainly also help reduce the burden of overworked doctors who are also busy battling the surge of misinformation on the internet — cue the tiff between Indian actress <keyword id="689826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samantha-ruth-prabhu" source="Orion">Samantha Ruth Prabhu</keyword> and The Liver Doc. You will never see a box of clothing getting in your way in one of the aisles," Roll adds.Innovation, the backbone of the tech industry, is also entwined with how Uniqlo markets collections like HeatTech, its thermal line, and Pufftech, its puffer jacket range."You feel like you're getting more for what you're paying," Yuille says, referring to the infusion of tech verbiage in Uniqlo's branding.<h2 id="7d63a423-14e0-4008-8ce1-06eef3f47cb3">The power of Japanese brand trust</h2>Japan's weak currency may be working to Uniqlo's advantage in Japan and its international markets — it makes shopping for tourists more appealing in its home market and boosts the value of its sales abroad. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Hermès reported an 11.4% increase in revenues for the first nine months of 2024.</li><li>The French fashion house is bucking the trend of the luxury industry as competitors like LVMH stutter.</li></ul>If the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lvmh-sales-drop-bad-indicator-luxury-market-kering-hermes-china-2024-10">luxury slump</a> is an epidemic, Hermès is managing to stay immune.A week after <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lvmh-luxury-louis-vuitton-struggles-china-slowdown-2024">LVMH announced dismal third-quarter earnings</a> and a day after Kering reported a 15% year-on-year decline in revenue in its most recent quarter, the French luxury design house has presented its <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://finance.hermes.com/en/">own results.</a>In stark contrast to its peers, Hermès's revenue jumped.Revenues were 11.2 billion euros ($12.1 billion) for the first nine months of 2024, up 14% from the same period in 2023.Third-quarter sales also displayed resilience, rising to 3.7 billion euros ($4 billion), up from 3.4 billion euros ($3.7 billion) in the third quarter of 2023. The nearly 200-year-old family company even reported a 7% growth in Asia, excluding Japan, where <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lvmh-luxury-louis-vuitton-struggles-china-slowdown-2024">sluggish demand</a> for luxury in China has wreaked havoc for many other luxury brands.<div type="image" title="Hermès Birkin handbag" height="1333" width="2000" msid="114545251" hostid="261" sizebytes="209812"></div>The only sore spot for Hermès was the watch sector, where sales tumbled 6%. However, Carole Dupont-Pietri, Head of Investor Relations at Hermès, told analysts during an earnings conference that the company attributed the decline to a move of an annual watch event in China from September to November 2024 and a slowdown in exports from Switzerland.Asked by analysts what has surprised her and Eric du Halgouët, Executive Vice-President of Finance, about the house's results over the past three quarters, Dupont-Pietri said: "It's this contrast, I believe, between the resilience of Hermès, especially in China and greater China, compared to other players in the industry."But Hermès's success isn't entirely surprising. The fashion house is reaping the rewards of a long-term strategy and abiding by the fundamental laws of luxury.<h2 id="5ac8561f-f65f-4f25-b1c9-457e54abb488">Playing the long game</h2>Martin Roll, global business strategist and senior advisor at consulting giant McKinsey, told Business Insider that demand for luxury fashion ebbs and flows in a cycle. Hermès manages to stay the course because, unlike its peers, it measures success through a long-term lens, he said.Unlike other brands, Hermès's brand identity is "based on scarcity," he added. The fashion house does that intentionally because "they're not chasing growth.""They know very well that, like all the luxury brands, Hermès could run the risk of being over-saturated," Roll said, adding that the brand being family-owned is also an advantage."You have that stability in the ownership," he said. "And you have leadership stability.""When you are one of the houses in LVMH, you're still reporting to LVMH. You still have expectations of the family," Roll added.<h2 id="c2b50c66-f7b2-4986-a772-5dca7a6c8555">The exclusivity allure</h2>Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute, previously told BI he credits Hermès's success where others have struggled this year to its allure of exclusivity.In China, competitors fell into the "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/recession-economic-outlook-greedflation-inflation-corporate-earnings-slowdown-societe-generale-2024-1">greedflation</a>" trap of taking advantage of disruptions to push price increases on consumers after the pandemic. This angered consumers, forcing some brands to discount products to try to appease them, Pedraza said.However, the result was a mixed strategy that left consumers confused, Pedraza said. "It's a little bit of schizophrenia," he added.Where many luxury brands have increasingly sought celebrity partnerships and collaborations with other growing industries like sports and entertainment, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hermes-became-ultimate-status-symbol-2024-2">Hermés</a> continued cruising in its own lane.In the luxury fashion world, there's a growing belief that "getting attention is everything," Pedraza said."Hermés doesn't believe that," he added. "They get attention by not seeking attention."

Hermès isn't just surviving the luxury slump — it's thriving

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The founder of Jazzercise stays active and energized at age 80 by dancing and lifting weights.</li><li>Judi Sheppard Missett said she's motivated by a drive to help others enjoy exercise.</li></ul>More than 50 years after the launch of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/brought-to-by-podcast-btyb-all-that-jazzercize">Jazzercise</a> helped pioneer the group fitness industry, founder Judi Sheppard Missett still loves to dance every day.Now 80, she continues to teach classes and do choreography for her company, which has more than 2000 locations worldwide, more than 55,000 customers in the US alone, and brought in $77 million worth of sales last year.Missett continues to play a role as executive chair instructor in the company, which is now a family affair; her daughter (55) has taken over as CEO and chief choreographer, and her granddaughter (22) is an instructor.She told Business Insider that she believes her longevity probably has something to do with the fact that she is very active, but relaxed about her fitness and nutrition. She eats her protein and veggies along with a daily Dr. Pepper, her favorite treat.While she follows a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-start-weightlifting-if-only-do-cardio-yoga-2021-10">weightlifting routine</a>, and takes long walks at the end of each day, her priority is making time for other people."I have more things to do in life, and I want to be able to enjoy them. I want to be able to enjoy my granddaughters and just everything that's going on in life and in the company as well for as long as I possibly can," Missett said.<h2 id="50eea792-2a29-434b-97cc-806cbafefbb8">She built a community around fun, accessible fitness</h2>As a lifelong dancer, Missett said her goal as a 25-year-old instructor in 1969 was to bring her love of movement to others, especially women who felt like exercising was a chore. She noticed her classes, which initially focused on traditional techniques, weren't getting a lot of return students."They all said, we love the class. It's great, but it's really difficult. We don't want to be professional dancers. We just want to look like they do," Missett said," I thought maybe I just need to make this simpler and more fun."She changed her approach to teaching, turning students away from the mirror, instructing them to follow her lead instead, and doing simplified choreography with lots of encouragement and motivating, high-energy music.The first session in this new "Jazz Dance for Fun and Fitness" class had 15 students.By the third class, her clientele had quadrupled to 60, which soon grew to more than the studio in Evanston, Illinois could handle."The room wouldn't hold anymore because people were telling their friends," she said.From there, Jazzercise began a community that spread — first to California, where the company is now headquartered, and then globally.Missett thinks of it as a family. What she loves about her job, and what keeps her getting out of bed in the morning excited to start the day, is that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/blue-zone-residents-longevity-secrets-traits-2019-12">sense of purpose</a>."I really loved this so much because it was exposing people to dance and the joy of movement and the joy of music. There was a spirit behind it, and there was a camaraderie in those classes," Missett said. "I feel like we had an impact on helping women understand what they can accomplish and how powerful they could be. It meant everything to me. And it still does."<h2 id="c6c9acf9-3107-4b4e-be6a-fd60a9f7409c">Lifting weights keeps her strong and prevents injury</h2>Still a devoted Jazzercise fan, Missett stays active with strength training and walking, too."I have a motto, and the motto is, keep moving so you can keep going," she said.Her daily morning routine includes <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/full-body-workout-30-minutes-less-no-equipment-gym-trainer-2023-8">20 minutes of lifting weights</a>, and she isn't afraid to go heavy. She said the routine keeps her back healthy, and being strong helped her recover more quickly from a recent hip replacement."When people get to be older, you'll have a little bit of pain here and there and a few little creaks and whatnot in your body. For some people, it's an excuse to stop doing things, but it really shouldn't be because if you keep moving, it really helps most of those things," Missett said.<h2 id="f2baa325-dcc3-46f8-b319-83567b17a53e">She avoids fad diets in favor of moderation</h2>Missett said her approach to nutrition is to focus on getting plenty of protein and leafy greens with her meals. Lean protein sources like beans, chicken, and fish can help with satiety and maintain muscle, and green veggies are rich in nutrients like <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/anti-aging-foods-brain-heart-health-better-immunity-longevity-2023-9">antioxidants for healthy aging</a>.But having a little treat is just as important for her routine."If I want to have a hot fudge sundae, I'm going to have it," she said. "I just want to do what I do in moderation and eat as best I can."That includes her daily habit of drinking a Dr. Pepper, which she's loved since childhood.Dietitians typically don't recommend sweet beverages like soda. They suggest limiting added sugars to 20-25 grams per day (the average soda has around 40 grams of sugar). Artificial sweeteners in diet drinks can also have downsides.For Missett, the enjoyment is worth the tradeoff."It just brings me joy," she said.After decades of watching wellness trends come and go, Misset isn't a fan of fads in dieting or anything else."I think people get into fads and think, 'Oh, I've got to do this. I've got to be on trend.' No, you don't," she said. "Do what works for you. And if the trendy thing isn't working, find something else."

"It's essential to bridge the divide between differing economies' ability to build a strong environment for their travel and tourism sector to thrive," said Iis Tussyadiah, Professor and Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey. "The sector has big potential to foster prosperity and mitigate global risks, but that potential can only be fully realized through a strategic and inclusive approach." Global Indian Leaders of The Year 2023 as per World Brand Affairs

<keyword id="18530965" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="southampton-southampton" source="Orion">Southampton Southampton</keyword>, Aug 25 (The Conversation) <keyword id="75770" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="coral-reefs" source="Orion">Coral reefs</keyword> thrive in parts of the world's oceans that are low in nutrients. This mystery has puzzled scientists for centuries and has become known as the "Darwin paradox of coral reefs". Our new study adds the missing piece of the puzzle. We found that many species of coral cultivate and feed on the microscopic algae that live inside their cells. This vegetarian diet allows the corals to tap into a large pool of nutrients that was previously considered unavailable to them. Stony corals are soft-bodied animals made up of many individual polyps that live together as a colony. They secrete limestone skeletons that form the foundation of reefs. The coral polyps acquire nutritious compounds rich in nitrogen and phosphorus by catching prey like zooplankton with their tentacles. Many coral animals are also dependent on a <keyword id="6527304" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="symbiosis" source="Orion">symbiosis</keyword> - a mutually beneficial relationship - with the microscopic algae that live inside their cells. These photosynthetic algae produce large amounts of carbon-rich compounds, such as sugars, and transfer them to the host coral to generate energy. However, as most photosynthetic products are deficient in nitrogen and phosphorous, they cannot sustain the growth of the animals. Our findings suggest that, while coral animals may survive brief periods of starvation by feeding on their symbionts, some coral reefs could face the risk of prolonged nutrient deficiency due to global warming. This is concerning. Coral reefs are important underwater ecosystems that provide a home and feeding ground for countless organisms, sustaining around 25% of the world's ocean biodiversity. Vegetarian diet The symbiotic algae living within the corals are very efficient at taking up dissolved inorganic nutrients, like nitrate and phosphate, from the surrounding seawater. Even in nutrient-poor areas of the ocean, these compounds are present in considerable amounts as excretion products of organisms, such as sponges, that live close by. Ocean currents can also transport these nutrients to reefs. The coral host, on the other hand, cannot absorb or use nitrate and phosphate directly. But, through a series of long-term laboratory experiments, we demonstrated that corals actually digest some of their symbiont population to access the nitrogen and phosphorus that these algae absorb from the water. To provide evidence that the nutrients accumulated by the growing coral tissue originated from the symbionts, we supplied the corals with a chemical form of nitrogen that can only be absorbed from the water by the symbionts, not by the coral host. This nutrient compound was marked by a technique called isotopic labelling, which uses nitrogen atoms that are heavier than normal. These "heavy" isotopes allowed us to track the movement of nitrogen between the partners of the symbiosis by ultrasensitive detection methods. With this method, we could unambiguously demonstrate that the nitrogen atoms that sustained the growth of the coral tissue were derived from the dissolved inorganic nutrients that were fed to their symbiont algae. Our data suggest that most species of symbiotic corals can supplement their nutrition through such a vegetarian diet. From the laboratory to the ocean Together with our colleagues, we also analysed corals growing around remote islands in the <keyword id="12350" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-ocean" source="Orion">Indian Ocean</keyword>, some with seabirds on them and some without. Our results show that corals have the potential to farm and feed on their symbiont algae in the wild too. The reefs around some of these islands are supplied with substantial amounts of nutrients that come from "guano" - the excrement of seabirds nesting on the islands. On some of the other islands, seabird colonies have been decimated by invasive rats. The reefs surrounding these islands receive fewer nutrients. We measured the growth of staghorn coral colonies both around islands with and without dense seabird populations and found that growth was more than twice as fast on reefs that were supplied with <keyword id="18530966" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="seabird-nutrients" source="Orion">seabird nutrients</keyword>. About half of the nitrogen molecules in the tissue of the coral animals from islands with seabirds could be traced back to uptake by the symbiont algae. Global warming could complicate matters In the future, some coral reefs could face a decrease in nutrient availability due to global warming. Research suggests that warming surface waters are less likely to receive nutrients from deeper water layers. The reduced water productivity could result in fewer nutrients for their symbionts and subsequently less food for the coral animals. Our study indicates that some coral reefs might become vulnerable to starvation as ocean temperatures warm. When we moved corals from water with ample nutrients to water with fewer nutrients, they continued to eat their symbiont algae. This behaviour allowed them to sustain their growth for a few weeks, even in the absence of feeding. But once they had exhausted their population of symbiotic algae, the coral underwent bleaching (referring to the white appearance of the corals with low symbiont numbers in their tissue), stopped growing - and in some cases eventually died. Our findings reveal that corals can not only acquire nitrogen and phosphorus by feeding on prey as other animals do. But, by eating parts of their symbiont stock, they can also efficiently tap into the pool of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus that is otherwise only accessible to plants. Through this process, symbiotic corals gain an advantage over other animals in environments that are low in nutrients, explaining their prominent role in the formation of reefs in nutrient-poor water. However, increasingly severe nutrient depletion will add a further threat to some coral reefs already experiencing bleaching caused by heat stress.(The Conversation) AMS AMS
