The Indian government unveiled another list of 30 cities that will be developed under the <keyword id="513113" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="smart-city">Smart City</keyword> initiative. So far, the government has announced 60 cities under the Smart City Mission. This time, Kerala capital <keyword id="43810" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thiruvanathapuram">Thiruvanathapuram</keyword> topped the list, followed by Chhattisgarh's new capital Naya Raipur. Dehradun, Jammu and Srinagar also made it to the list. But, Raebareli. Ghaziabad and Meerut were not included in the new list. Announcing the list, India’s urban development minister M <keyword id="74369" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Venkaiah-Naidu">Venkaiah Naidu</keyword> said 45 cities contested for 40 available smart city slots but only 30 were selected to ensure feasible and workable plans that match the aspirations of the citizens. These cities have proposed to invest Rs 57,393 crore under respective smart city plans. With this, the total number of such cities have gone up to 90 with a total investment of Rs 1,91,155 crore. "All of them will put in place <keyword id="3970046" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="integrated-command">Integrated Command</keyword> and Control Centres that enable coordination among various agencies for better service delivery and effective management of scarce resources like water and power. So, these are not mere cosmetic changes," Naidu said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 6 (): Kerala's COIVD-19 tally on Monday touched 5,622 with 193 fresh cases being reported, as the death toll rose to 27 with two more people succumbing to the virus. Of the positive cases, 92 had come from abroad and 62 from other states, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said addressing the media online from his residence as triple lockdown has been imposed in the state capital since this morning. Thirty-five have been infected through contact. The two deceased are a 82-year-old man, who had returned from Saudi Arabia recently and was suffering from cancer, and a 66-year-old man, under treatment at the Ernakulam medical college hospital. Vijayan said community spread was a threat and the government was taking various steps to prevent it, including triple lockdown and widespread testing. Triple lockdown has been imposed for a week in Thiruvanathapuram since this morning. All government offices,private establishments are shut and public transport is off the roads. Giving the break-up of cases, Vijayan said Malappuram recorded 35 cases, Pathnamthitta26, Ernakulam 25, Alappuzha and Kozhikode 15 each, Thrissur 14, Kollam and Kannur 11 each, Wayanad and Palakkad eight each, Thiruvananthapuram seven, Kottayam, Kasaragod and Idukki six each. The number of active cases in the state hastouched 2,252. Today, 167 people have recovered. About 1.83 lakh people areunder observation and 2,075 in hospitals,including 384 admitted today. In the last 24 hours, over 9,000 samples have been taken for testing.So far, 2,04,452 samples have been sent for testing. Vijayan said testing will be intensified in the border areas,especially in Manjeswaram in Kasaragod district, where everyday people are going to Mangaluruin Karnataka on a daily basis. 49 fresh COVID-19 cases in Kerala, tally now 896 Thiruvananthapuram, May 25 (): Kerala on Monday reported 49 fresh cases of COVID-19, including a health worker and two remand prisoners, taking the aggregate count to 896 while over 99,000 people areunder observation, According to a press release, the number of those under treatment for the virus is 359. It said 18 of the infected had come from abroad, 25 from other states (Maharashtra 17, Tamil Nadu four, Delhi and Karnataka two each). The six others were people who had been infected through contact, including a health worker from Thiruvanathapuram and two remand prisoners from Kannur, a press release said. Kasaragod reported the highest number of cases--14, Kannur 10, Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad five each, Kozhikode four, Pathnamthitta and Alappuzha three each, Kollam and Kottayam two each and Idukki one, Health minister K K Shailaja said. Totally 532 people have been cured of the infection, including 12 who were discharged from hospitals on Monday, while 359 are presently under treatment. According to the release, 97,247 people have come to the state--- through airports (8,390), seaport (1,621), checkposts (82,678) and Railways (4,558). At least 99,278 people are under observation in the state, of whom98,486 are undergoing home or institutional quarantinewhile 792 are in hospitals, including 152 admitted on Monday. So far samples of 54,899 people have been sent for testing and results of 53,704 received are negative,the release added. Four new hot spots were added, taking the tally to 59. tally crosses 6,500 markThiruvananthapuram, Jul 9 (): With COVID19 cases continuing to spiral, Kerala on Thursday recorded the biggest single day spike of 339 infections, taking the count to 6,534, as Chief MinisterPinarayi Vijayan cautioned that the state was "very close" to the threat of community spread. The state reported 133 cases through contact today. As many as 149 people have recovered from the infection on Thursday and 2,795 people are under treatment,Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters here. In at least seven cases, no source of the infection has been traced yet, he said. Vijayan also said there are possibilitiesof formation of multiple clusters and COVID-19 super spread areas. Of the fresh cases, 117 had returned from abroad and 74 from other states. Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest number of cases for the second consecutive day with 95 being infected today. Of this, 88 were infected through contact from the coastal fishing stretchof Poonthura, which has emerged as a COVID-19 'super spread' area. "We are very close to the threat of community spread.An infection at a fish market has resulted in the complete lockdown of the capital city," Vijayan said. The virus has reached various parts of Thiruvanathapuram district, including Aryanad which is in the eastern partof the district. Commandos and 500 police personnel have been deputed in Poonthura to strictly enforce the lockdown there, the chief minister said, adding police has distributed one lakh free masks in the area and in Aryanad also. The situation in Kochi was also precarious and at any time the governmentcan impose further stringent restrictions, he said. District wise break-up of cases: Malappuram 55, Palakkad 50, Thrissur 27, Alappuzha 22, Idukki 20, Ernakulam 12, Kasaragod 11, Kollam 10, Kozhikode eight, Kottayam seven, Wayanad and Pathnamthitta seven and Kannur eight. In the last 24 hours, 12,592 samples have been tested.So far, 2,20,677 samples have been tested and results of 4,854 are awaited. About 1,85,960 lakh people are under observation in various districts and 3261 are in various hospitals, including 471 admitted today. There are 151 hotspots inthe state as of today. Kerala reports biggest daily spike of 339 infections,COVID-19

Thiruvananthapuram, May 28 () In the biggest single day spike, Kerala reported 84 COVID-19 cases on Thursday taking the infection tally to 1,088, while a man hailing from Telangana, who reached here from Rajasthan and tested positive, succumbed to the virus. The deceased had wrongly boarded the Jaipur-Thiruvananthapuram special train on May 22 under the impression that it was bound for his home state and reached here along with his five family members without the requisite documents. The 68-year-old man, who was under observation and later admitted to the general hospital here after he showed symptoms of the virus, died on Wednesday, a government press release said. His wife, two children and two other family members are under observation at acare centre at nearby Poojapura. The body has been shifted to the mortuary and as it was a COVID-19 death, the final rites are likely to be held here itself. His sample result was received today. With the latest casualty,seven people have died of the infection in the state. On May 26, the state had reported the biggest single day spike of 62, prompting chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to warn that the state risks sliding into community transmission and losing all its gains if people under observation fail to follow health guidelines. Vijayan said today "so far there has been no community spread in the state, but we cannot say it will never happen." "We have been diligently following the directions of the ICMR with regard to the testing in the state.The ICMR has been insisting on antibody test but the test kits provided by it was not of good quality. They themselves asked us not to use it," he said. The "sentinel surveillance" has been effective in Kerala and that was how the state had come to the conclusion that community spread has not yet reached the Kerala society. Kerala has the lowest mortality rate in COVID-19 cases and also the best recovery rate, Vijayan said. "Some people are indulging in fake news that the state has been fudging numbers regarding COVID-19. But even the centre and the union health ministry has praised the manner in which the state has been fighting the pandemic," he said. Otherstates have been asked to follow the Kerala model,he said, adding,the Centre has said that some states have been fudging numbers but Kerala was not in that list. Presently 526 people are undergoing treatment for the pandemic and 1.15 lakh are under observation. Of the infected, 31 had come from abroad and 48 from others states, including 31 from Maharashtra, nine from Tamil Nadu and three from Karnataka. While five people were infected through contact, three people have been cured of the infection and discharged from hospitals. "ICMR guidelines direct us to test anyone with common flu. Kerala has a low rate of spread of virus through contact. Here the people are fighting the pandemic together. This is not a disease which someone can hide for a long time," he said. Kasaragod reported 18 positive cases on Thursday, followed by Palakkad 16, Kannur 10, Malappuram eight, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur seven each, Kozhikode and Pathnamthitta six each, Kottayam three, Kollam, Idukki and Alappuzha one each. There are 82 hot spots in the state, including six new additions on Thursday. Two remand prisoners in Thiruvanathapuram have tested positive for the coronavirus today following which two police personnel of the Venjaramoodpolice station have gone into self-quarantine as a precautionary measure. As per the latest medical bulletin, Palakkad has the highest number of positive cases, 105, followed by Kannur with 93, Kasaragod 63 and Malappuram 52.
