The tenure of the present government of India at the center will expire on June 3 and India is preparing to elect its next government that will rule over the next five years term.  Cumulative figures from the first 4 phases show that 20 crore women voters have come out to vote while 6,389 voters were from the third gender. However, while the voter turnout has been reducing per phase, keeping in mind that there has been an increase of 5.94 crore voters in the country from 2014, there has been an increase in the voter turnout from 2014. The election commission reported that for the first 4 phases, the voting percentage has increased by 1.09% from 2014. For phase 5, West Bengal recorded the highest percentage of 74.42%, Madhya Pradesh reported 65.27% while Rajasthan stood at 63.72%. The state of Jammu &amp; Kashmir completed its polling today.

With just two more phases to go, voter turnout further declines in phase 5

Polling began amid tight security arrangements for 94 assembly constituencies in 17 districts of Bihar from 7 am on Tuesday for the second phase of assembly elections. Foolproof security arrangements have been made for voting as well as to ensure that social distancing norms are in place in the times of a pandemic. In most assembly constituencies, voters will be able to exercise their franchise from 7 am to 6 pm, while the window is curtailed from 7 am to 4 pm in some sensitive constituencies. Security forces have been deployed at all polling booths. In Bihar, elections are being held in three phases for 243 assembly seats. The election for the first phase was held for 71 seats on October 28. Polling for the third phase will be held for 78 seats on November 7. Counting of votes will be held on November 10. Bihar Election 2020: Polling begins for 94 seats in Bihar amid tight security

If people decide to sit at home to avoid getting caught in any sort of violence, it may skew the results in favour of one party or the other. <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/elections/lok-sabha-elections-2019/kerala/news/violent-end-to-vibrant-poll-campaign/articleshow/68987461.cms">More than 30 people</a>, including a policeman, were injured at Thiruvalla where the activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) clashed on the last day of the campaign (April 21). That was only one of the many violent clashes that have caught headlines in the state that boasts of 94% literacy, according to the 2011 census. Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), better known by its acronym CPI(M), said that the party had 13 workers in the last one year. He won accolades for effectively managing a devastating flood in the state in 2018. The state also has a long history of leftists dominating state politics. Kerala’s first chief minister in 1957, EMS Namboodiripad, was one of the world’s first communist leaders to head an elected government. On the other hand, UDF led by Congress is trying to squeeze the BJP out by supporting the protests against the entry of women into the Sabarimala Temple. “Well, you cannot afford to write off the votes of the majority in times of political interest,” <a href="https://qz.com/india/1601119/election-2019-congresss-tharoor-battles-modis-bjp-in-kerala/">Congress leader Shashi Tharoor</a> fighting to defend the state capital Thriuvananthapuram told Quartz. The margin for error has shrunk significantly for Tharoor who swept the seat with 100,000 more votes than the second candidate in 2009. By 2014, it had shrunk to 14,000 and this time it is expected to be even tighter. Given that tensions are running high, voter turnout may become a deciding factor. Voter turnout may be tested in India’s most literate state that has seen one of the most violent election campaigns

The State of Assam has 14 seats to give for the Parliament. The Election Commission has declared that the polling for 2019 Lok sabha Elections in Assam will happen in three phases during the first, second and the third phase of polling across the country. The dates of polling for the various constituencies in Assam will be April 11, April 18 and April 23. The counting of votes will happen on 23 across the country for all constituencies and the results will be declared on the same day. Election 2019: Lok Sabha Seats in Assam

As India nears the results of 17th Lok Sabha election 2019 with the last phase of polling on Sunday, it is yet to be seen if the Narendra Modi-led BJP government will make it to power this time. While the exit polls have been predicted incorrectly in the past, the 2014 exit polls were found to be nearly accurate. Looking back to the data compiled during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the exit polls portrayed nearly the same picture as that on the result day. The BJP government won majority of seats in Gujarat, Delhi, Rajasthan, Goa and Uttarakhand. Interestingly, AIADMK stood third on the list, winning 37 of the 39 constituencies. Mamata Banerjee led TMC won 34 of the 42 seats. The 2019 general elections were started on 11 April 2019, and will conclude on 23 May, as the result of the seven phases gets declared.

Exit polls 2019: How accurate were the pollsters the last time

Elections in Vellore, one of Tamil Nadu’s most-watched constituencies, were cancelled altogether after ₹1.05 million was found at Durai Murugan’s house, the father of Kathir Anand — a DMK candidate in the district. Another ₹115.3 was also found at Poonjolai Srinivasan’s cement godown, a known associate of Murugan. While Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu struggle with voter bribery issues, Bihar and Karnataka are more concerned with voter turnout. The city of Bengaluru — the Silicon Valley of India — in particular, has issues of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/election-2019-gold-confiscated-in-tamil-nadu-ahead-of-second-phase/articleshow/68933494.cms">voter turnout</a> while Bihar’s <a href="https://www.livemint.com/elections/lok-sabha-elections/bihar-elections-2019-patna-is-missing-a-whole-generation-of-millennials-1555350536677.html">brain drain</a> means that a lot of its eligible millennial voters don’t actually live in the state anymore. As Manipur goes to polls again, the Returning Officer (RO)The Returning Officer (RO) of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Haobam Rosita, has <a href="https://www.newsclick.in/returning-officer-recommends-re-poll-19-polling-stations-manipur">recommended</a> that re-polling needs to take place at 19 of the polling stations from the first phase of the general elections in the state. Among the many reasons that Rosita cites for repolling, the most disturbing is probably one of the constituencies showed that voter turnout in excess of 100% and that the polling booth for the Najang Village was put up at a non-designated location. Here’s what the second phase of the Indian general election has in store for the 11 states polling today

The <keyword id="40807" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Election-Commission">Election Commission</keyword> on Friday ordered repoll at a polling station in Southern <keyword id="6354915" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assam">Assam</keyword> after the electronic voting machine (EVM) was found in a <keyword id="14666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> candidate wife's <keyword id="46210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vehicle">vehicle</keyword> on Thursday evening. The EC said in a statement that the presiding officer and three other officials have been placed under suspension and a repoll has been ordered at the Indira M.V. School polling station under Ratabari Assembly constituency in the state. "Although the seals of the EVM were found intact, it has nevertheless been decided to do a repoll at the Indira M.V. School polling station as added precaution," the statement said. The Commission also sought a report from the Special Observer about the incident. The statement said that after the officials car carrying the <keyword id="11034879" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="polled-evm-machine">polled EVM machine</keyword> to Karimganj was broken down they boarded a passing private car which was subsequently surrounded by a mob of about 50 people that started pelting stones at them. The mob at the Kanaishil (under Karimganj district) alleged that the EVM was being taken to be tampered with. The private car was owned by the wife of BJP candidate of the neighbouring Patharkandi constituency Krishnendu Paul. The statement added that due to the heavy rains on Thursday night and the roads being muddy, the official car of the <keyword id="2235016" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="polling-personnel">polling personnel</keyword> broke down and then they boarded a private vehicle along with their polled EVM and other materials without checking the ownership of the vehicle. Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the District Election Officer of Karimganj along with the district Superintendent of Police (SP) rushed to the spot and reached there at 10.20 p.m. on Thursday night.During the course of the stone pelting, Karimganj SP Mayank Kumar sustained minor injuries on his collarbone and blank firing had to be resorted to disperse the mob. The first polling officer, who was found missing in the commotion, was rescued early on Friday morning from a nearby area. About the incident Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a tweet said : "Every time there is an election video of private vehicles caught transporting EVMs show up... Unsurprisingly they have the following things in common: 1. The vehicles usually belong to BJP candidates or their associates. ...." Over 77 per cent of the 73,44,631 voters exercised their franchise in the second phase of polling in Assam on Thursday in the 39 constituencies. Of the three-phase elections to the 126-member <keyword id="124967" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Assam-Assembly">Assam Assembly</keyword>, the third and final phase of polling will be held in 40 seats on April 6. New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): With counting progressing in <keyword id="19912155" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha-polls" source="keywords">Lok Sabha polls</keyword>, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led <keyword id="20344628" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Democratic-Alliance" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="National Democratic Alliance" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="National Democratic Alliance">National Democratic Alliance</keyword> is leading on more than 100 seats as per the latest trends according to TV channels. Around 642 million people voted in Lok Sabha elections held over seven phases in a mammoth six-week period. The counting of votes began starting with postal ballot papers amid tight security. The counting for State Legislative Assemblies of 175 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and 147 Assembly constituencies in Odisha and results of bypolls in 25 Assembly constituencies also began. The Lok Sabha elections for 543 seats of the lower house were held across seven phases. The <keyword id="19931558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Bharatiya Janata Party" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Bharatiya Janata Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> is eyeing a third straight term in power, while the Opposition under the umbrella of the <keyword id="19895684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="INDIA-bloc" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="INDIA bloc" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="INDIA bloc">INDIA bloc</keyword> is seeking to wrest power from the ruling party.Most exit polls predicted a straight term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with quite few of them projecting a two-thirds majority for the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (<keyword id="41281" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NDA" source="Orion">NDA</keyword>). The Congress party and its allies dismissed the exit polls as "orchestrated" and a work of "fantasy", asserting that the opposition INDIA bloc will form the next government at the Centre. Strict security has been put in place for the smooth conduct of counting of votes for over 8,000 candidates in this general election. With counting began for the Lok Sabha elections, which have seen the largest voter participation, the electoral fate of several leaders across the political spectrum will be decided. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are among the senior BJP leaders in the fray. Key opposition leaders, including former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, NCP's Supriya Sule, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, are also contesting the poll. Two polls predicted the BJP would also improve its numbers from the 303 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. In the 2019 elections, NDA wrested 353 seats, of which the BJP won 303 alone. The Opposition's UPA got only 93 seats of which the Congress got 52. Even before the counting of the votes, the Bharatiya Janata Party won one seat of Surat Lok Sabha. Earlier on April 22, Mukesh Dalal won the election "unopposed". Congress nominee Nilesh Kumbhani's nomination was rejected. His candidacy was rejected because of alleged discrepancies in the signatures of the proposers.

As per the latest statistics available, there are a total number of 4,81,84,693 eligible and registered voters in the state of Rajasthan. Out of them the male voters are 2,51,15,130 and the female voters are 2,30,69,332. Also, 231 voters have stated that they belong to a third gender. Rajasthan went for polling for the 2019 general elections for the Lok Sabha in two phases. Voting was held for 13 seats during phase IV on April 29 and for 12 seats during phase V on May 6, 2019. The counting will happen countrywide on May 23 and the results will be declared on the same day.
