Mumbai, A special PMLA court here on Thursday remanded <keyword id="6358200" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jet-airways" source="Orion">Jet Airways</keyword> founder <keyword id="122732" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="naresh-goyal" source="Orion">Naresh Goyal</keyword> in 14-day judicial custody in a money laundering case linked to an alleged fraud of Rs 538 crore at the Canara Bank. The court accepted <keyword id="6361408" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="goyal" source="Orion">Goyal</keyword>'s request to send him to the Arthur Road jail in South Mumbai. The <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="enforcement-directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) arrested Goyal on September 1 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following a long session of questioning at the central agency's office here. The 74-year-old businessman was produced before the special judge for cases under PMLA, MG Deshspande, at the end of his ED remand on Thursday. The court remanded him in judicial custody as no further remand was sought by the probe agency. The court also accepted Goyal's request to send him to the Arthur Road jail in Byculla instead of Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai. Later, Goyal moved an application saying he suffers from a host of health issues and requested that he be allowed to undergo daily medical checkups by his family physician, specialist consulting doctors and personal doctors, and be provided with medical facilities on a regular basis during his stay in the jail. In the application, Goyal said he was suffering from ischemic heart disease and was operated at the <keyword id="6425633" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="asian-heart-institute" source="Orion">Asian Heart Institute</keyword> for "treatment of 80 per cent of blockages in his left main artery which is a life threatening condition". His plea said he also has hypertension, diabetes, restricted mobility, severe shoulder impingement and neck pain due to a fall in June 2022. In another application, Goyal sought appropriate bedding on a daily basis considering his medical conditions and home-cooked food as per dietary prescription. The court has asked the prosecution to file its say on Goyal's applications. The money laundering case stems from an FIR of the <keyword id="6354889" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="central-bureau-of-investigation" source="Orion">Central Bureau of Investigation</keyword> (CBI) against Jet Airways, Goyal, his wife Anita and some former company executives of the now-grounded private airline in connection with an alleged Rs 538-crore fraud case at the Canara Bank. The FIR was registered on the bank's complaint which alleged that it sanctioned credit and loans to Jet Airways (India) Ltd to the tune of Rs 848.86 crore of which Rs 538.62 crore was outstanding.

Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal sent to 14-day judicial custody

A special court here on Tuesday remanded former JD(S) MP <keyword id="20313055" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prajwal-Revanna" source="keywords">Prajwal Revanna</keyword>, who is facing charges of <keyword id="19907938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rape" source="keywords">rape</keyword> and <keyword id="20027232" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-abuse" source="keywords">sexual abuse</keyword>, to <keyword id="19911103" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="judicial-custody" source="keywords">judicial custody</keyword> till June 24. The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court had on June 12 remanded him to the custody of the <keyword id="20085377" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Special-Investigation-Team" source="keywords">Special Investigation Team</keyword> (<keyword id="19925651" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIT" source="keywords">SIT</keyword>), which is probing the cases against him, till June 18. The 33-year-old had failed in his bid to retain the <keyword id="22095822" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hassan-parliamentary-constituency" source="keywords">Hassan parliamentary constituency</keyword> in the recent polls. SIT officials arrested Revanna soon after he landed at Bengaluru airport from Germany on May 31. He had left for Germany on April 27, a day after Hassan went to the polls. A '<keyword id="21526463" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Blue-Corner-Notice" source="keywords">Blue Corner Notice</keyword>' seeking information on his whereabouts had earlier been issued by the Interpol, following a request by the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation. Revanna was arrested in a case registered against him in Holenarasipura in Hassan district on April 28. He was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former maid. He has been booked in three cases of sexual assault. There are also charges of rape against him. The cases of sexual abuse came to light after pen-drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on April 26. JD(S) suspended him from the party after cases were filed against him.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday attached assets worth Rs 2,747.69 crore of the ABG Shipyard Limited in bank fraud case. The ED said that the attached assets include Shipyards in Gujarat's Surat and Dahej; agricultural lands and plots, various commercial and residential premises in Gujarat and Maharashtra; and bank accounts owned by <keyword id="155095" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="abg-shipyard-ltd" source="Orion">ABG Shipyard Ltd</keyword>, its group companies and other related entities. The ED initiated a money laundering investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the <keyword id="6354889" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="central-bureau-of-investigation" source="Orion">Central Bureau of Investigation</keyword> (CBI). Investigation by ED revealed that ABG Shipyard Ltd and its Chairman and Managing Director <keyword id="13160809" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rishi-kamlesh-agarwal" source="Orion">Rishi Kamlesh Agarwal</keyword> availed various credit facilities from consortium of Banks led by ICICI Bank, Mumbai on the pretext of meeting its capital requirements and other business expenses, but ABG Shipyard Ltd misappropriated the credit facilities availed from the consortium and diverted the funds for the purposes other than its actual cause in the garb of various loans, advances, investments to various related entities incorporated in India and abroad. It caused monetary loss to the tune of Rs 22,842 crore to the consortium. The ED has traced movable and immovable assets totaling Rs 2747.69 crore belonging to ABG Shipyard Ltd, its group companies, Bermaco Energy Systems Ltd., <keyword id="78238" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dhananjay-datar" source="Orion">Dhananjay Datar</keyword>, <keyword id="15057158" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="savita-dhananjay-datar" source="Orion">Savita Dhananjay Datar</keyword>, <keyword id="15057157" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="krishna-gopal-toshniwal" source="Orion">Krishna Gopal Toshniwal</keyword>, <keyword id="1896504" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="viren-ahuja" source="Orion">Viren Ahuja</keyword> and attached them under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
