Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 4 (ANI): <keyword id="20031073" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ysr-telangana-party" source="keywords">YSR Telangana Party</keyword> (YSRTP) Chief <keyword id="1670480" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ys-sharmila" source="Orion">YS Sharmila</keyword> is all set to merge with the Congress party in Telangana today. YS Sharmila on her visit to Idupulapaya yesterday, announced her readiness to join the Congress party and said that she will soon be meeting the BJP top brass in New Delhi. The significant move by the YSRTP chief comes days after the Congress party won the Telangana assembly elections. During the recent assembly elections in Telangana, YS Sharmila constantly rendered her support to the Congress party. She clarified that she did not contest the polls as it would have led to spilling of votes. "I am extending support to the Congress party because the Congress party stands the chance of winning in the Telangana Assembly elections... KCR has not fulfilled any of the promises he made to the people in his 9-year tenure. And that's the only reason I do not want KCR to come to power... I, as the YSR's daughter risk Congress' chance, because I tend to pull the Congress vote bank," she said in a statement made ahead of the Telangana assembly elections. Highlighting the significance of the support, she stated that the Congress party's victory in 31 seats in Telangana was largely due to their abstention from contesting. "In more than 55 constituencies I am going to affect the Congress vote bank and in more than 20 constituencies, I am going to help Congress lose in case I contest," she said. YS Sharmila could be given a key post in the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Sharmila is also expected to play a role in the elections of Andhra Pradesh which will also be held next year. Congress won an absolute majority in Telangana for the first time, winning 64 of 119 seats. Bharat <keyword id="19946146" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rashtra-samithi" source="keywords">Rashtra Samithi</keyword>, which ruled India's youngest state for 10 years, won 38 seats. Jagan Reddy's sister, YS Sharmila to merge her party with Congress today

HYDERABAD: With the passage of Telangana Bill by the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword>, the <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> party has saved itself from certain extinction in <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>. Assuming that <keyword id="250148" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="The-Bill">the Bill</keyword> will pass muster in the Rajya Sabha and will receive the <keyword id="2540" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="President">President</keyword>'s assent, in the next Lok Sabha elections, the Congress along with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is likely to bag the lion's share of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the region. However, in residuary Andhra Pradesh, the Congress cannot be expected to get a single seat from the 25 Lok Sabha berths. This is compared to its 33 Lok Sabha seats it won in the 2009 elections and 29 in the 2004 elections. 
 
But the party will not be expected to become defunct in residuary Andhra Pradesh: there will be a realignment of the caste composition of the party base. Presently controlled by the Reddys with the Kapus and the dalits as junior partners, the party is now expected to be taken over by the Kapus. The process of regeneration will however take a few years. The Reddys and dalits will gradually make a beeline for the YSR Congress party. However, some Kapus will be enticed by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). In the immediate future, the YSR Congress and the TDP will slug it out in the Seemandhra region. 
 For the Congress, it will be a matter of great relief if the TRS agrees to merge with the grand old party, but the bosses of the <keyword id="391868" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Telangana-party">Telangana party</keyword> have not yet agreed to this. In the forthcoming elections, the two are expected to have an electoral agreement. 
 
The Telangana Bill could have never been passed in the Lok Sabha without the support of the BJP. The saffron party has had Telangana on its agenda for the past 40 years - even when the party was still the Jana Sangh. In the past few months, the BJP however had second thoughts about the move to support Telangana. This was under the influence of TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu and lobbying by business barons of Seemandhra region with Narendra Modi. But the RSS helped the BJP make up its mind. The diktat from Nagpur was clear: Support Telangana. This is our old agenda and there is a great scope for BJP to grow in Telangana. This is much more than what can be achieved in Seemandhra. 
 
The BJP is now likely to harp on the fact that it is only with their help that the Telangana Bill was passed. So, it is them who should get the credit for the creation of the new state. Political analysts, however, aver that the benefit of this may not accrue to the saffron party immediately. But in a few years, the BJP will be a formidable force in the region. It may not be so in the Seemandhra region, but the BJP feels that the TDP may have no other option but to support them at the national level. However, the latest information suggests that the TDP may be in favour of a third front in New Delhi and not the BJP. 
 
At a deeper level, politics will be transformed in the two regions by broad basing democracy. A close examination of the bio-data of MPs from Andhra Pradesh reveals that a large number of them are contractors and businessmen. Many of them have used their position to further their business interests and land up contracts. In fact, it is this lobby that has been in the forefront of the move to scuttle Telangana averring that the creation of the new state will scuttle their power. Now, these contractor businessmen - like Lagadapati Rajagopal- are expected to get out of business (politics). This will also mean that less money will be spend in elections - Andhra Pradesh being a state where the maximum amount of money is spent for polls.

Telangana Bill Saves Congress From Extinction In Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], December 3 (ANI): The Congress 'hand' has stopped Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) 'car' in Telangana as the grand old party has comfortably reached the majority mark as per the latest trends of the Election Commission of India. The Congress is leading on 61 seats while the BRS on 36 and the BJP leading on 10, as per ECI. Telangana Congress President, Anumula <keyword id="933541" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revanth-reddy" source="Orion">Revanth Reddy</keyword> is leading from the Kamareddy seat leaving CM KCR trailing behind. Revanth Reddy is MP in the Lok Sabha from INC representing Malkajgiri Constituency. Earlier, He was a two-time MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from TDP in 2009 and 2014 and in the Telangana Assembly between 2014 and 2018 representing Kodangal Constituency. He left TDP and joined Congress in 2017. In June 2021, he was appointed as president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee replacing N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Both Congress candidate Konda Surekha and Naini Rajender Reddy are leading from Warangal East and West seats. Telangana CM KCR is leading from the Gajwel seat. Since the formation of the State in the year 2014, BRS has been holding power with KCR as its chief minister. Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) is leading from Sircilla, which is considered one of the most important seats. KTR fought from the same seat in the 2018 elections and won. Payal Shanker from BJP is leading on the Adilabad seat while Dhanpal Suryanarayana leading from Nizamabad (Urban). Jaffar Hussain from AIMIM is leading on the Yakutpura seat. Celebrations were seen outside the Congress office in Hyderabad over the party crossing the halfway mark comfortably. The party cadre chanted "Bye bye KCR". The Telangana election results will be important for the Congress as it heads into the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A win in Karnataka and Telangana would further concrete its presence in the South. The Congress party, which is now in reckoning, was completely written off just six months ago. Several factors could have contributed to the Congress's upturn: Perceived anti-incumbency at the constituency level against BRS MLAs; energy infused by the Karnataka victory in the party leaders and cadres; the BJP's decline following the removal of Bandi Sanjay as the Telangana unit chief; and the perception that the BRS and AIMIM are in cahoots with the BJP. Congress leader <keyword id="41270" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="renuka-chowdhury" source="Orion">Renuka Chowdhury</keyword> said that Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leaders are in touch with the grand old party. On being asked if BRS leaders are in touch with the Congress party, Renuka Chowdhury told "Of course! Today's politics is like that. They are in touch with us. Sometimes they take away ours (MLAs), and sometimes theirs come here." Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar who is in Telangana as an AICC observer on Sunday spoke about the possibility of MLA poaching and said that not even a single MLA or candidate will break. TPCC Vice President Kiran Kumar Chamala also spoke on the MLA poaching issue in Telangana and said that the party's MLAs will not be provoked. "It's not the trend what we see this morning, these are the waves and positive vibrations in Telangana. The 6 guarantees that <keyword id="689" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sonia-gandhi" source="Orion">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> has promised to the people of Telangana have turned the tide towards us. Poaching is one of the main agenda of KCR. We have taken some measurements. But after seeing the trends, we don't think it is needed. At least we'll have 80-plus seats. Our President Revanth Reddy is also leading. Everything is under control and our MLAs will not be provoked," the TPCC Vice President said. The fate of 2,290 candidates from 109 parties including the national and regional parties will be revealed as the counting proceeds. The contestants include 221 women and one transgender. A total of 103 legislators are re-contesting this time, most of them from the ruling BRS. A clear picture of the result is likely to emerge by noon. Telangana went to vote on November 30. In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats and had a 47.4 per cent vote share. The Congress came a distant second with 19 seats. (ANI)

They are turning a blind eye to the guarantee schemes, which will finish off the country and are devised to grab power." New Delhi, Poll strategist <keyword id="4300245" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sunil-kanugolu" source="Orion">Sunil Kanugolu</keyword> has yet again proven to be the man with the Midas touch, plotting the Congress' amazing turnaround in Telangana months after being the architect of the grand old party's return to power in Karnataka. Starting with Prashant Kishor's I-PAC, Kanugolu was largely credited for shaping the Congress' win in Karnataka and was later accorded Cabinet rank in the Siddaramaiah government. This time, Kanugolu along with PCC chief A Revanth Reddy formed a formidable pair to chalk out the Congress' strategy to pull down the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led BRS government that was eying a third term in the southern state. The Congress was headed for victory in Telangana while it was staring at crushing defeats in the Hindi heartland states of <keyword id="6355554" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madhya-pradesh" source="Orion">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Kanugolu had also made forays in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh following a directive from the party's central leadership but regional satraps Ashok Gehlot and Kamal Nath reportedly were not on the same page as the poll strategist. Ahead of the Rajasthan elections, Kanugolu had made an assessment about the winnability of probable candidates but Gehlot reportedly did not agree to his suggestions and brought in Naresh Arora's Designboxed to construct the Congress government's narrative in the run-up to the assembly polls. Sources say that the success of Kanugolu in Karnataka and Telangana was the result of the free hand given to him and allowing his team to work freely. Kanugolu, who hails from Karnataka and is in his early 40s, has been considered largely as the brain behind the Congress' narrative in Karnataka with the 'PayCM' campaign against the BJP. In the run-up to the polls in Telangana, he highlighted the alleged corruption of the K Chandrashekhar Rao dispensation as part of Congress' campaign that seemed to have struck a chord with the people. The campaigns run by the Congress in Karnataka and Telangana have been very similar as both highlighted the alleged graft of the ruling dispensation and projected welfare guarantees that seemed to have struck an instant connection with the public. Interestingly, Kanugolu has also been involved in several BJP poll campaigns in the past. In 2018, he worked with the BJP in Karnataka and the party managed to become the single largest party with 104 seats. He had also worked on Narendra Modi's campaign in 2014, as well as the party's political campaigns in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Kanugolu, a former consultant with McKinsey, was also associated with DMK chief MK Stalin and oversaw the party's '<keyword id="3576832" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="namakku-naame" source="Orion">Namakku Naame</keyword>' (we are for ourselves) campaign during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2021, he also worked with AIADMK against the DMK and led the party to win 75 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Kanugolu had joined the Congress last year and worked closely with the Karnataka campaign. He is also credited with strategising <keyword id="5268" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rahul-gandhi" source="Orion">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>'s cross-country 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Kanyakumari to Kashmir last year. Having delivered Karnataka and Telangana to the Congress, Kanugolu is likely to be given more responsibilities by the party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> and <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> are engaged in intense negotiations to hammer out an understanding over the creation of <keyword id="68884" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword>. 
 BJP has assured the government that it would not waver from its commitment to the creation of Telangana but is insisting on a specific pledge of financial support for Seemandhra region as the condition for supporting the <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> Reorganization Bill, expected to be introduced in Parliament on Wednesday. The Union home ministry on Sunday sent a recommendation to President Pranab Mukherjee for introduction of the Telangana bill in Parliament. 
 
Sources said BJP is demanding a commitment for extending financial assistance worth Rs 17,000 odd crore to Seemandhra region through the Consolidated Fund of India to meet the revenue gap it will be saddled with, based on projections for the previous and current fiscal years, because of the transfer of resource-rich Hyderabad to Telangana as the capital of the proposed state. 
 
The party also wants the government to ask the Finance Commission to find ways of helping Seemandhra region with adequate funds on a long-term basis as a compensation for Hyderabad which generated Rs 24,000 crore in revenue. 
 
It also wants specific commitments in the coming fiscal year for projects that the two sides feel should be created in Seemandhra region for its development. 
 Congress sources confirmed that there have been several rounds of talks between party representatives including Union ministers from Andhra Pradesh and BJP <keyword id="19496" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="leader">leader</keyword> and former party president M Venkaiah Naidu. 
 
When contacted, Naidu confirmed that he had been talking to Congress representatives and that he had made it plain that BJP will support the AP Reorganization Bill if the government commits itself to take measures for the development of Seemandhra region. 
 
"BJP in principle favours the creation of Telangana. That has been our consistent stand. But at the same time, we want to ensure that the interests of Seemandhra region are also safeguarded. There is no conflict of interest between the people of the two regions. They are all Indians and they are all Telugus,” Naidu said. 
 
He claimed that while the Centre and the Congress agreed about the need to take special steps in Seemandhra region, they were reluctant to back up their statements of intent with commitments of financial support. "They are not ready to make a commitment for the provision of assistance to Seemandhra through the Consolidated Fund of India to help it bridge the revenue gap. They want to leave the matter to the Finance Commission which is not acceptable to us,” Naidu said. 
 
Naidu also demanded commitment of support for projects the two sides have agreed on like upgrade of existing airports at Vizag, Vijaywada and Tirupati to international standards, creation of an industrial corridor between Vizag and Chennai along the lines of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and setting up of branches of central institutions located in Hyderabad such as DRDO, IIM and others. 
 
"I told them empty gestures of hand will not do. Put money on the table,” the BJP leader said. 
 Both sides said that while sticking points remained, they were in agreement on provisions of <keyword id="250148" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="The-Bill">the bill</keyword> such as declaring Rayalaseema region as backward and providing special incentives including tax holidays and exemption from central exercise for industry, creation of reservoirs in Seemandhra as part of the Polavaram project on Godavari, swift completion of six irrigation projects -- four in Rayalaseema and two in Telangana -- linked to Krishna river and a provision in the bill that education and employment opportunities in Hyderabad will remain open to people from both regions until Seemandhra gets its own capital. 
 
Naidu has also demanded creation of power plants of 4,000 mega watts capacity in the Telangana region. 
 
On the inclusion of Anantapur and Kurnool districts from Rayalaseema in Telangana, BJP is learnt to have said that it can be considered if the two regions agree.

BJP Seeks Financial Package For Seemandhra In Return For Telangana Support

NEW DELHI: Though exit polls predict BJP may not need to fish for allies, the party is looking to keep lines of communication open with regional parties like BJD, Telangana Rashtra Samithi and YSR <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword>. 
 
BJP leaders feel these parties can be part of a “greater NDA” either as formal allies or outside supporters and help boost the new government’s numbers while weakening anti-BJP numbers in Parliament. 
 
Such an outreach was very much part of BJP’s plans, but discussions with RSS (reported by TOI on Monday) have given the efforts a fillip as the party looks to widen its representation in the new Lok Sabha. 
 
RSS’s advice that it would be useful to deny Congress likely allies and deepen the party’s isolation matches BJP’s own assessment that adding partners would be useful in shepherding legislation through the upper House in particular. 
 While YSR Congress chief <keyword id="6357475" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jaganmohan-Reddy">Jaganmohan Reddy</keyword> is a bitter rival of BJP’s partner TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Seemandhra, the saffron party feels a working arrangement may still be viable. 
 
Jaganmohan’s relations with Congress had worsened ahead of elections and BJP leaders feel being an outside supporter of an NDA government may not be as difficult a task as might appear at first glance. 
 On his part, Jaganmohan has indicated he may have no qualms about supporting <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> as prime minister and BJP leaders feel state-level equations need not be a hurdle at the Centre. 
 <keyword id="78324" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="TRS-chief">TRS chief</keyword> K Chandrasekhar Rao has not been averse to doing business with BJP and talks were on till as late as April before the saffron party finalized its poll tie-up with TDP. 
 
KCR’s top priority is to secure the Telangana prize by forming the first state government in India’s 29th state and would not want to be on the wrong side of the Centre as long as he has the numbers in the state assembly. 
 
The astute TRS chief can be expected to weigh the situation keeping in mind whether he needs Congress in the new Telangana assembly or can make do on his own. 
 
Allying with BJP does not pose problems for TRS as the former has strongly supported Telangana and has been committed to smaller states. In contrast, KCR adroitly avoided a merger or even an alliance with Congress as he sensed the ruling party’s diminished electoral equity. 
 
In the case of BJD, BJP ensured its channels with Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik remained open before and during the elections despite strongly challenging the regional party’s hold on the state. 
 
Having been given a scare by BJP, Patnaik may now be inclined to renew his ties with the party he broke with in 2009, delivering a severe blow to LK Advani’s prime ministerial candidature. 
 
More importantly, Patnaik will need a stake in the Centre to convince voters that it is worth their while to support BJD with BJP aggressively looking to replace Congress as the main opposition. 
 
BJP leaders feel the BJD ranks high on their list as a potential ally and can help the party mop up the anti-Congress space.

The Nizamabad constituency has claimed the maximum amount of attention from the whole of the country as there are 185 candidates lined up to try their luck during 2019 Lok Sabha elections, all of them eagerly waiting for the results. The present ballot units of the EVMs can fit in only 16 candidates and hence the election commission had set up 12 ballot units in all the polling booths of the Nizamabad constituency to record the votes by the electors. Telangana CM <keyword id="80355" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="K-Chandrasekhar-Rao">K Chandrasekhar Rao</keyword> is now in trouble as a case has been registered against him for alleged illegal tapping of phone calls of his Andhra Pradesh counterpart <keyword id="6354350" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chandrababu-Naidu">Chandrababu Naidu</keyword> in the wake of the cash-for-votes scam. 
 

	The case has been registered against KCR under Sections 464, 647, 471, 166, 167 and 120/B of IPC, according to a PTI report. 
	 

	Inspector of III-Town Police Station, B Tirumala Rao, said a Vizag-based advocate NVV Prasad has lodged a complaint against KCR for violating the basic rights of the Andhra Pradesh chief minister and "tarnishing" his image by tapping his telephone lines. 
	 

	In his complaint, the assistant Public Prosecutor accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of deliberately trying to snoop on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members. 
	 

	Meanwhile, a conversation in an audio tape between Chandrababu Naidu and nominated MLA Elvys Stephenson, aired in a section of local TV channels has given a new twist to the cash-for-votes controversy. On Sunday, <keyword id="2889050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Parakala-Prabhakar-Advisor">Parakala Prabhakar Advisor</keyword> (Communications) to the Andhra government strongly denied all such reports saying that the tapes were fabricated. The conversation suggested that the <keyword id="209302" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Andhra-chief-minister">Andhra chief minister</keyword> was giving "assurance of all sorts" to the MLA if he votes for TDP nominee in the Telangana Legislative Council election. Prabhakar further alleged that the <keyword id="541763" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telangana-Government">Telangana government</keyword> is only trying to malign the image of Naidu by resorting to such cheap tactics. "It is not the chief minister's conversation. How come they are available outside. The Telangana government has to give answer to this. The Telangana CM and home minister should give answers," Parakala said. 
	 

	The anti-corruption bureau of Telangana is in the process of questioning TDP MLA Revanth Reddy and two others who have been arrested in cash-for-vote case.
