But if we flip back the pages on our calendar the first foldable launched this year was actually The Oppo Find N2 Flip, a device which was generally well received. Offered in a clamshell form factor it did put Oppo on the map for foldables. Surprisingly enough Oppo launched its new iteration last month with the Find N3 Flip. In a world where the life cycle of a product is super low, this doesn’t come as a surprise. However, does this quick turnaround also mean less innovation? In this case - No. I have used the Find N3 Flip for over a month now, and I can say it is the most reliable Flip Phone that I have reviewed. Let me explain why. Albeit in appearance, however a sincere amount of work has been done in the execution. Yes, I am talking about the hinge here, which is indeed the most interesting hardware of the smartphone. Tested for about 6,00,000 folds this hinge can be certified heavy duty. While I haven’t put the actual number to the test, my experience was mostly favorable. The device closes flat, leaving negligible space in the fold. Not only does that make it look clean, but also avoids the dust that might get settled between the gaps. The hinge is also very sturdy and doesn’t require unnecessary techniques on your end to put the device in any orientation. Once set-in the device sits in that form without any hiccup. While I will get into my experience with the display in the next section, I do want to highlight that the crease here is minimal. To give a reference it’s a tad bit flatter than the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Which in itself was very well executed. Another impressive aspect of the smartphone is just how thin it is. When unfolded it’s just 7.8mm thick and when you flip it up, it sits 16.5 mm. So yes it indeed is a slick smartphone. I like the chrome-like treatment on the back, even though it tends to get dirty very quickly and registers fingerprints. On the top right side we have the volume rockers, panning down a little we get to see the power button here. Yes the power button also houses the fingerprint scanner which is very snappy. Their application and experience also remains familiar, including the drawbacks. The volume rockers while very tactile are placed too high up when you are reaching out for them making it feel unnatural. This is a problem I face with all the flip devices, at this point it is a design limitation. However what most foldables don’t have is the alert slider. Yes, a familiar sight on OnePlus devices, Oppo Find N3 Flip also packs this hardware. Helping you to change the audio profile it remains reliable here as well. At the bottom we have the USB Type-C port and the SIM card slot. You can insert 2 nano SIMs here. Now the Find N3 Flip does feel like a very sturdy device but I have to mention that there is no certification here for water or dust resistance. Something we do get with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. While it is safe to assume that the majority of the people would be careful with an expensive device like this, an IP certification would have definitely added to the peace of mind. Display By the virtue of this device having multiple displays, it’s only fair to review them individually. Let’s start with perhaps the most interesting aspect - the cover display here. Cover Display This is a 3.6-inch AMOLED panel with a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. Oppo’s execution of the cover display finds the correct balance between utility and aesthetic. Unlike what we see on the Moto Razr series and the Z Flip 5’s horizontal displays, the one we see here is vertical. This of course comes with its pros and cons. Starting with the pros first, the vertical display here is easy to use, and brings in all the necessary features you would want from a cover screen. From dialing contacts to Google maps and even some gaming, it works well. The peak brightness here is 900 nits which is really bright and visible in outdoor settings. Like we would expect you can also use the primary camera here from the cover display. And yes that does mean easy access for making videos. While I will cover the camera performance in depth, I can say that it is a great feature for vloggers. What I particularly find missing is the fact that I can’t stream videos here, something one could do on Moto Razr 40 Ultra. I believe a cover display should be expandable to as many features as possible, this being one of them. However, this doesn’t take away from the utility of the N3’s cover display since it gets everything productive just right. I also liked the plethora of widgets that are available on the cover display here. Moving to the internal display here, we have a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED screen with a max refresh rate of 120Hz. As mentioned in the design section the crease on the display is minimal which not only provides a better viewing experience but also aids in improved interaction. The viewing experience on the display is top notch with the display projecting crisp colors and images that bounce up. I have watched Invincible Season 2 on Amazon Prime on this device along with Gen V season 2. The experience was top notch with the display projecting Z black colors. Playing games with the display is also a favorable experience with the 120Hz refresh rate. For that matter for the most part in a flat form factor the display behaves and reacts like a regular flat screen. The displays here are paired with a dual speaker set-up which so far has been the most efficient audio hardware I have seen. Software Oppo Find N3 Flip runs on Android 13 out of the box with Oppo’s Color OS skin. While it has been optimized for the foldable form factor to the best possible extent there is ofcourse bloatware. Let me start with what I liked about the UI here. Firstly customisation, the Find N3 Flip, gives a ton of options to give your own flavor to the UI here. From widgets, to skins and wallpapers you have enough options here to truly call it your own device. It also retains some of Color OS’ notable features,like auto pixelation. This feature automatically blurs the display of people in screenshots to protect their identity. Although it does miss in some instances when working automatically, you can manually blur objects. The option to do so directly from the screenshot menu is a welcome addition. Another feature is Multi Screen Connect, which enables connectivity between Oppo products like the Pad Air and allows you to connect your Oppo smartphone with PCs. This is particularly useful for presentations. However, the process of establishing the connection can be time-consuming. But on the flip side we have bloatware here, and yes these apps can be uninstalled. However, when you unbox an expensive device like the N3 Flip, with the best possible design, booting up to see apps is disheartening. Moreover, some of these apps also push notifications which makes the case harder to advocate. I hope Oppo works on this, considering the competition at this price point provides a clean OS experience. This can stand out for some users in an otherwise solid smartphone. Performance Before I dive deep into the Find N3 Flip’s performance I have to mention how this device manages to behave like a regular flagship smartphone in this aspect. Going in I was not very confident with the processor on board which is a Mediatek Dimensity 9200 5G SoC. But I have been proven wrong. Not only does the device deliver fiery performance, but it also manages to manage heat efficiently. Starting with gaming, I have played COD:Mobile and Genshin Impact on the Find N3 Flip on the highest possible setting. With visibly zero lag and dependable heat management the experience was noteworthy. There were no random frame drops or ugly buffers. Moving on, as one would expect the everyday performance is also dependable. Regular tasks like calling, social media and video streaming were also executed without any hiccups. The 12GB of RAM onboard is more than enough to handle all computational tasks, with 256GB of internal storage is also ample. Battery performance is at par with the competition with the device averaging at a screen on time of about 5 and a half hours. However it had an upper edge with the 44W SuperVOOC charging, which would juice up the device in less than 30 minutes. I also ran a Geekbench test on the device, and the results were in the bracket of my expectations. The single-core score was 1845 and multi-score was 4602. Camera Oppo has brought in the big guns when it comes to the camera department in the Find N3 Flip. And it is safe to say the device does pack in the best camera set-up on a flip smartphone. Majorly because of the color science and correct sensors that Oppo has used, added with the Hasselblad tuning it stands out. The available camera setup includes a 50MP Sony IMX890 with an f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Additionally, there's a 48MP Sony IMX581 with an f/2.2 aperture boasting a 114-degree Field of View (FoV), and a 32MP IMX709 sensor equipped with an f/2 aperture, facilitating hybrid zoom capabilities of up to 5X, specifically tailored for exceptional portrait photography. OPPO harnesses computational photography techniques to refine High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos, and its ProXDR feature asserts an enhancement of up to eightfold in dynamic range. The front-facing selfie camera nestled within the inner screen features a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The 50MP camera delivers remarkable outcomes, capturing sharp images, vibrant colors, and impressive dynamic range, particularly in well-lit outdoor settings. Oppo's algorithm works to elevate these images, potentially altering the final output from what's seen initially in the viewfinder. It excels in capturing spontaneous moments while retaining details upon zooming in. Engaging the dedicated 50MP mode elevates detail levels and ensures precise color reproduction. Indoor photography shows a slight decline in performance but remains acceptable due to the reliable sensor. Activating the night mode significantly enhances performance in low-light conditions. The 32MP telephoto sensor stands out for its capability to capture incredibly sharp images in various environments, whether indoors or outdoors. Its portrait mode excels in precise edge detection, creating an appealing bokeh effect around multiple subjects within the frame. As for the 48MP ultra-wide sensor, it performs optimally by maintaining accurate colors without noticeable alterations. This aspect is crucial for a dedicated ultra-wide sensor, ensuring a broader perspective without sacrificing color precision. Regarding video recording capabilities, the foldable impresses with its capacity to shoot upto 8K videos at 30 frames per second (FPS) while maintaining clear audio, making it a valuable tool for content creators. On the front side, the selfie camera boasts 32MP and integrates Oppo's face filters. It adeptly handles Indian skin tones, generally rendering accurate colors in most scenarios. However, it might struggle in specific lighting conditions, resulting in color inaccuracies. The device offers a range of face filters, catering to users who appreciate this feature. Although the front camera's video performance is acceptable, it might experience slower focus adjustments and noticeable lag. Consequently, for content creation purposes, relying on the primary rear sensor is recommended. Verdict Oppo Find N3 Flip is truly the end game of flip smartphones for this year. It looks good, comes with a reliable hinge and delivers a camera which is of flagship caliber. Delivering on essentials that you would expect from a flagship. Yes the orientation of the cover display is also subjective to your choice, what I can say is that it does its job well. If you are in the market for buying your first foldable smartphone and have a budget in this ballpark I would recommend checking out the N3 Flip. However if you have a modest budget but do want to check out Flip smartphones, you can take a look at the regular Moto Razr and Tecno V Flip.

Damn it! It's cold in here!" at stoplights, I finally found the most important object on my search: the climate dials. Their red and blue colorations were so faint that I hadn't picked up on them, and their designs so smooth that it never occurred to me that those dials did anything. I slid the smooth dial all the way red, sat back, and found peace. <div type="image" title="The Rolls-Royce Ghost." height="1656" width="2846" msid="79153772" hostid="261"></div>The peace wasn't long for this world. I hadn't cared much about the radio up until that point, but you know what they say about life: When you solve one problem, you discover three more. Soft snaps from the intro to 2 Chainz's "It's a Vibe" began to bump through what I can only assume were the fanciest speakers I've ever listened to, at volume levels far too low for such a tune.I instinctively reached for a volume knob near the bottom corner of the infotainment screen, to be met with nothing. I poked around the screen. Nothing. I twisted and tugged every knob I could reach. Nothing. I zoomed in and out of the navigation map with one knob. No luck.<div type="image" title="The Rolls-Royce Ghost." height="2342" width="3992" msid="79153775" hostid="261"></div>All the while, 2 Chainz bragged through my still-quiet speakers: OK, so I got the ambiance just where I want it. Lucky you, 2 Chainz. I found the volume knob about 10 minutes after the song ended, tucked so perfectly into the dashboard's open-pore wood that I thought it was there for decoration. The radio was, finally, a vibe. I was obviously not.<div type="image" title="The Rolls-Royce Ghost." height="2411" width="3981" msid="79153788" hostid="261"></div>The Ghost, once you learn its alien rituals and control knobs, is a mystical being. It's a staple of not only the wealthiest among us, but what awaits them: a vertical-slat grille that's iconic in design alone, yet has a warm backlight to make the car glow at night. Rolls' staple starlight headliner, made not from stamping the parts through a factory but by cutting fiber optics by hand to create individual stars in a "random but uniform" imitation of the night sky. A 6.75-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 engine whose claimed 563 horsepower has an unmatched duality: slick and quiet for chauffeurs, yet able to rocket up to speed with a punch of the gas pedal.Features so intricate that each fold-away tray table, cupholder, and emblem can slide into various positions so gracefully, they're more reminiscent of ballet performers than anything belonging in a car. A hood emblem so fancy that should you fear theft, it'll fold into the bonnet and hide away until you've returned to your gated community. The Ghost is defined by its extras — unnecessary in theory, yet magical in practice. But much like Disneyland or whatever <a href="https://www.popularmechanics.com/space/moon-mars/a34525209/spacex-laws-mars-elon-musk-starlink-app/">loosely governed</a> hellscape Elon Musk wants to create on Mars, I guess anything can be magical at a certain price point. <div type="image" title="The Rolls-Royce Ghost." height="2317" width="4008" msid="79153791" hostid="261"></div>Before I stepped into one, a Rolls-Royce was more of a concept than anything concrete: a floating, mystical being unconnected to the road or world around it, because the world around it simply isn't worthy. It still largely is a concept — a big, sparkly cloud in my mind labeled "fancy."But driving the Ghost came with the realization that it's more of a car than I ever imagined. The road below and the world around it don't disappear, they're simply numbed — with surrounding cars heard and potholes felt, ever so faintly, to remind its owners that they aren't in Heaven yet, but they could definitely afford the penthouse suite when they get there. <div type="image" title="The Rolls-Royce Ghost." height="3996" width="2387" msid="79153803" hostid="261"></div>As for me, a humble blogger cosplaying a Rolls-Royce driver for the day, I learned a few things about myself as well. Namely, I learned there are two types of people in this world: those whose $430,000 Rolls-Royce Ghosts include fancy lambswool floor mats, and bystanders who just want to dig their crusty appendages into them. It's supposed to be incredibly... amazing and opulent inside, yeah, yeah, yeah, so where did they cut corners? What did they not, like, what's not up to the level of what I would think of for Rolls-Royce?Rich: What do you see so far?Matt: Where is the plastic, you know? Well, I mean, you know, the visors look, you know, the visors are a little bit like, well, maybe this is from the BMW parts bin.Rich: Right.Matt: Right? And there's some little bits and pieces of plastic here and there. But for the most part, for the most part...Rich: I think it looks, yeah, I think it looks good so far.Matt: The whole thing is pretty beautifully executed. Rich: Right, no, absolutely. Matt: I'm a big fan of the interior here.Rich: I like the interior a lot.Matt: The interior has won me over. I think the interior is worth $410,000.Rich: You know what I think is cool? The digital-analog gauges look kinda cool.Matt: Yeah, and everybody loves the power reserve instead of the tachometer.Rich: That is kinda cool too.Matt: You know, I'm on the power now, so I'm depleting my power reserve.Rich: Right, so you have 80% left, power. Matt: Right, so it's the reverse of a typical tachometer, you know, where instead of it showing me the engine speed, it's showing me how much...Rich: How much power you have left. Right.Matt: Exactly. So, we're supposed to have a 0 to 60 in 4 1/2 seconds here, so we're gonna see if we get more or less 0 to 60 in 4 1/2. One, 1,000,Rich: Oh, yeah!Matt: two, 1,000, three, 1,000, four, 1,000. I got four seconds.Rich: It gets up and goes, for sure. 500 and, what, 60ish kinda horsepower?Matt: 563 is the official number, with 630 pound-feet of torque? Something like that, yeah.Rich: I wish it was, I wish it was more.Matt: To be honest with you, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe you could complain a little bit about the horsepower, and I, like you, I might say this is not quite as much I'd like to get out of it, you know.Rich: Right, right.Matt: But I like having all that torque.Rich: Right, no, the torque's great.Matt: I'm not gonna complain about the torque because you do want to have that sense that the thing could just keep going and going and going and going and never strain and you've always got some torque that you could go grab and have it do its thing. Now, I'm enjoying my time behind the wheel, as I always do in a Rolls-Royce, because I like the thin steering wheel.Rich: You do?Matt: I do. I love the steering wheel.Rich: I thought it would be, like, bolsters there. That doesn't seem right to me.Matt: I totally dig the thin steering wheel, and I always feel like... although, yeah, you're right, you're very... it's not like, you know, you drove over here in a pretty snazzy Corvette, which did not isolate you from the driving experience.Rich: No, I felt every bump. I felt every person yelling at me to tone it down. I just, everything. Every single, I felt everything. This car, I feel like, you're just... it's just doing all of the work. You're just sitting down.Matt: No, exactly. It's extremely relaxing, it's a meditative experience, you know, it's just... I really, really like driving Rollses for just this reason. And you can only, this driving experience is completely singular.Rich: Mm-hmm.Matt: You know, I've driven probably half a dozen Rolls-Royces, and you always, this is the feeling you always have in them.Rich: It's so quiet. Matt: It's quiet.Rich: You don't hear it. Like, I haven't heard anything on the outside. Anything. I barely hear cars driving by.Matt: Yeah. [Matt laughing]Rich: I've gotta, you know, I do want to figure out one thing. What packages do they have available? 'Cause, what's the retail on this thing? Was it $410,000, they said?Matt: This is $410,000. This vehicle, the way we're testing it, is $410,000. So, it's $325,000 to start.Rich: All right. So let's see what other options. So, the paint is an $11,500 option.Matt: Yeah, and I was a little disappointed with the paint, actually.Rich: I didn't, I didn't think that was great, so, like, me being the cheap person that I am, I could save money right there.Matt: [laughing] There you go.Rich: Like, instead of saying, "Paint: gunmetal," I would say "Paint, yes." [laughing]Rich: You know? So, let's see. Oh, one of my favorite features of this car, by the way, it's the lamb's wool floor mats.Matt: Yeah, nice.Rich: Those were $1,500.Matt: Yeah, yeah, worth every penny.Rich: I think that's a must-have, so let's see. So, there's contoured... ooh, let's see, what, contrast seat piping? $4,000. So, I think if you want to get the orange stitching on the seats,Matt: That's four grand? Rich: that's four grand. Are those, is that hand-stitched? Is this car handmade?Matt: Yeah, probably is hand-stitched actually.Rich: And then there's the technical bespoke clock, which is, that's, I don't think that's worth $6,800.Matt: $6,800 for a clock?!Rich: Yeah, I don't think so. I mean, I have a nice watch I could probably just use for that. I mean, you can buy a nice watch for less than that. You know?Matt: That's right, that's right.Rich: Cheap guy. Let's see, what else is there? The rear theater configuration? I think that's, like, the TVs in the back, for $8,000. I'm not sure I would do that. These are a lot of things I'd probably just...Matt: What about the picnic benches back there? The fold-down picnic benches?Rich: How much were those? The fold-down picnic benches, I think were, those were $4,000. So if you want, like, little benches at the back of your seat where your rear-seat occupants could kinda just have a picnic back there, that'll cost you up to $4,000.Matt: Have a little prime rib.Rich: Yeah, exactly. But then your car will smell like food. You don't want that.[Matt laughs]Rich: You don't want the car smelling like food, no way. I'll tell you one thing. Out of any Rolls-Royce I've seen so far, I think this would be the one I would probably purchase.Matt: Really? Rich: Yeah, I'm not a Phantom guy.Matt: Not a Phantom guy?Rich: I can't drive a Phantom.Matt: I would get a Phantom. I mean, I think the more time we spend in here, and we haven't been spending, you know, hours and hours or days and days in the car, we'd find some...Rich: We'll start picking it apart.Matt: We would. We would find some additional things to complain about. I'd find more things outside the car to complain about. Like, there's some chrome that's slapped on out there.Rich: Right, yeah, I'd wanna see it without that.Matt: Seems like it's a little plasticky and a little cheap. There's some plastic stuff on the front, on the fascia, that's, I think, a bad choice. Yeah, what do you think of the overall design?Rich: Great design. I think it's a phenomenal design. I think the rear end is very simple. And there's no Cullinan badge on it, which I like.Matt: That's nice, right.Rich: It's like, you get it, it's a Rolls-Royce, you don't have to rub it in my face, it's a Cullinan. Like, I respect that. One thing I don't like about the front end is that I wish the grill, I wish the front end didn't remind me of a Ghost. Matt: Uh-huh. Rich: It's not as, you know, it's not as, like, you know, present as the Phantom, obviously. It's very Ghost-like. It's not a bad thing. But you can tell that it's, you know, they kinda copied some cues from there, which I guess is fine, but I wish it was a little bit different from the SUV, that's all.Matt: Interesting, interesting. I'm a little, it has 22s on it, and I think it could go bigger.Rich: I agree.Matt: I think the wheel wells could be filled up with a bigger wheel, and if I were gonna order it, you know, above and beyond a $325,000, I would definitely want bigger wheels.Rich: But, no, this is definitely something different. They've done a great job making a statement, but also it's very simple on the outside. The taillights, the rear end of the vehicle.Matt: That's a good point.Rich: It's very simple. It's very sedated, but still the presence is very big. I think this is one of the best-looking SUVs available right now, but there is a Range Rover that is pretty good-looking as well.Matt: All right, Rich, $410,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, hyper-luxury SUV, what do you think? Is it worth it?Rich: I'm gonna go ahead and say no, this is not worth the $410,000. I would say it's worth the base price of $325,000. $410,000, no way.Matt: For me, it's not a $410,000 car on the outside. It is a $410,000 car on the inside. And when I'm in that car, I feel like I'm in the lap of luxury. It's uber-luxury, hyper-luxury. It's very much the Rolls-Royce experience in there. Got nothing to complain about. It's extremely quiet, and yet, this big V-12 motor, you know you've got that. Serves up the goods if you need it, but you're not hearing it roaring away or anything like that. That's really just very Rolls-Royce for me. But not $410,000 on the outside. Definitely $410,000 on the inside.Rich: More like a $350,000 on the outside.Matt: Yeah, $350,000 on the outside.Rich: All right, I'd have to agree.
