<ul><li>Programming network TechGig, along with payments company <keyword id="91294" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="American-Express">American Express</keyword> has announced a ‘women-only’ coding contest — Geek Goddess. </li><li>The women coding contest will focus on themes like Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, <keyword id="3241386" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="robotic-process-automation">Robotic Process Automation</keyword> (RPA), Cloudify Everything, Solution Hunters Hackathon. </li><li>The code submissions for the contest will take place till October 14. </li><li>A recent survey of women IT professionals revealed that three in every four women techies face gender bias at workplace.</li></ul>Payments company American Express and programming network TechGig announced a ‘women-only’ coding contest — Geek Goddess. The contest will focus on Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), cloud along with Solution Hunters Hackathon. The codes should be submitted by October 14. The contest winner will receive prizes worth ₹750,000. The contest will also declare an all India rank for women coders for their implementation. The challenge received over 37,700 submissions so far. “The enthusiastic queries that we received, makes me believe that this year’s Geek Goddess will help corporate India spot the brightest women IT professionals in the country," said Sanjay Goyal, Business Head, TechGig. Last year, the competition received 68,791 entries. This contest will help reduce the gender bias that female IT professionals face. It is said that three in every four women are victims of workplace discrimination. “We believe that an inclusive and diverse workforce provides a competitive advantage in the marketplace. American Express is committed to developing a talent pool that brings together unique perspectives, backgrounds and experiences,” said Ruchika Panesar, vice president of technology at American Express. American Express and TechGig call for women coding contest — Geek Goddess

<ul><li>India’s prestigious <keyword id="55119" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT), Madras will host the <keyword id="8150706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore-India-Hackathon-2019">Singapore India Hackathon 2019</keyword>. </li><li>It is a 36-hour long hackathon, focussed on three themes — good health and well-being, quality education, and affordable and clean energy. </li><li>Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will award prizes to the winning teams. </li><li>Six teams will receive the ‘Prize of Encouragement,’ along with prizes worth $2,000 (₹141,425). </li></ul>India’s prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will host the second joint competition — <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1586294#">Singapore India Hackathon 2019</a>. The three-day long event will commence on September 28 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the awards ceremony on September 30. Ong Ye Kung, Minister of Education, Singapore will also be present at the function. This will be a 36-hour long hackathon, focussed on three themes — good health and well-being, quality education, and affordable and clean energy. Each of the 20 participating teams will have three students, each from both countries for exchange of culture and ideas. The winning team will be awarded a prize money of $10,000 (₹707,125), while the three runner ups will get $8,000 (₹565,700), $6,000 (₹424,275) and $4,000 (₹282,850) respectively. The Human Resource and Development Ministry (MHRD) of India will also award the ‘Prize of Encouragement of,’ $2,000 each to six teams for ideas with potential. “The Singapore India Hackathon, an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the first of its kind joint <keyword id="6001248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-hackathon">international hackathon</keyword> between India and any other country. It aims to promote engagement and collaboration of student community in India with the rest of the world and to develop innovative and out-of-the-box solutions for the daunting problems faced by our societies,” said R Subrahmanyam, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education. Last year, the Singapore India Hackathon was held at NTU, Singapore in November. The event is organised by MHRD, and its innovation cell (MIC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) jointly with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore and NTUitive. IIT Madras to host Singapore India Hackathon in the presence of PM Modi

The team currently has a strength of 27,000 people onboard, across the eight centres. EY’s delivery services include client technology, advisory and innovation. “GDS is globally seen as the conduit for all its outsourcing contracts,” it added. KPMG and Deloitte also announced recruitment of 9,000 and 40,000 professionals, respectively in India. The companies are planning to hire digitally skilled professionals. “We are no longer looking at the talent that is proficient in repetitive, standard, codified tasks as we have built more technology using automation, artificial intelligence in our delivery models. The areas we're looking at are advanced analytics, cybersecurity, automation and machine learning, and continuing attention around artificial intelligence,” Rao explained. As per industry estimates, India has less than 10% of data scientists available globally. According to a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/iits-launch-courses-in-artificial-intelligence-and-machine-learning/articleshow/67850336.cms">survey</a> by Analytics Vidhya and ed-tech platform Great Learnings, India has 50,000 vacancies in data and analytics sector. In fact, the country is expected to create 39,000 new analytics jobs by 2020. The demand for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) professionals is also on the rise.
