<ul><li><keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> is the top gainer on Nifty 50 and Nifty IT in the last 30 days.</li><li>After the company gave double digit growth guidance for FY22 and showed potential business opportunities in the 5G space, analysts have remained positive on the stock.</li><li>The market share of the large cap IT company stood at ₹1.33 lakh crore as of August 13.</li></ul>Shares of Tech Mahindra have gained 31% in the last 30 days as analysts remain positive on the information technology (IT) company’s growth prospects on good opportunities in the 5G space. Tech Mahindra is known for its strong play in network infrastructure services compared to its peers. “The company is well invested in capturing opportunities from the expansion of the 5G value chain across networks and IT services from both telecom service providers and enterprises,” said a report by broking firm Sharekhan. <div type="image" title="tech mah 2" height="900" width="1200" msid="85296207" hostid="261"></div> On July 30, the stock had surged about 8% as the company gave double digit growth guidance of more than 10% in revenue growth for FY22. In June quarter earnings call, the management indicated that almost 60-70% of its new signings in the telecom segment will be in the area of 5G. Tech Mahindra rallies more than 30% in 30 days as analysts seem bullish on 5G opportunities for the blue chip stock

<ul><li>One of the top five IT services companies, <keyword id="43217" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra</keyword> reported a 25% decline in net profit for April-June quarter.</li><li>The management attributed the decline in profitability to rising employee benefits costs, which includes promotions and salary hikes.</li><li>However, high spending towards retaining employees by giving hikes and promotions has paid off the firm’s attrition rate, which has come down to 22% from 24% last quarter.</li><li>Tech Mahindra’s attrition is still better than peers Infosys (28.4%) and TCS (23.3%).</li></ul>A fourth of Tech Mahindra’s first quarter revenues were eaten up by employee expenses, pushing its profits down by 25% on a sequential basis. The company’s CEO C P Gurnani says that this wage hike has reduced its attrition by 2% from last quarter, and predicts that it will reduce by another 4% in six months. But when asked for specifics, he said, “Attrition is as hard to predict as death,” at the post-earnings press conference. Its total income grew marginally by around 3% to ₹12,830 crore sequentially. Its constant currency revenue growth stood at 3.5%, the company said in its press release. “We are confident that we will be presenting to you continuously over the next few quarters industry leading growth. We are also confident that we will have an opportunity to work on the profitability levers,” said Gurnani. High spending towards retaining employees by giving hikes and promotions has aided as Tech Mahindra’s attrition rate has come down to 22% from 24% last quarter. If it’s able to keep up with its predictions, in the next two quarters, it could come down to 18%. Tech Mahindra’s attrition is still better than peers Infosys which is at 28.4% and that of TCS at 23.3%. Attrition is as hard to predict as death says C P Gurnani after TechM loses profits to wage hikes

<ul><li>Tech brands have fared badly in 2023 due to global headwinds, recession threats and more.</li><li>Banking and financial services companies including fintechs saw their value swell during the year.</li><li>PhonePe and Cred were the new entrants into Kantar’s list of Top 75 Indian brands.</li><li>Auto companies made a comeback from Covid-lows with TVS and Mahindra being among the fastest risers. </li></ul>It is not just the share prices of technology services companies that are falling, even their brand value has taken a beating. India’s top brands have borne the brunt of the global economic downturn in 2023. The combined value of Kantar BrandZ’s top-75 Indian brands shed 4% of their value to $379 billion in 2023. Yet, they have fared better than their global counterparts, as its global list has shed 20% of its value. Most of this loss in brand value was seen in Indian tech brands whose value shrunk by 14%. The brands have a major presence in international markets, and have been impacted by global pressures, recession threats and geopolitical instability, says Kantar. “If you exclude tech, the combined brand value is quite stable,” said Soumya Mohanty, managing director and chief client officer, South Asia, Insights Division of Kantar. TCS on the top, as usual The spot of India’s most valuable brand, however, is retained by tech giant TCS. It has shed 6% of its value but has fared better than tech as a sector. “TCS has a strong corporate reputation which makes it more likely to retain clients and business. It can also help enable customer retention which is also a factor that adds to brand value,” Deepender Rana, executive managing director of South Asia Insights Division at Kantar told Business Insider India. Infosys’ brand value dropped by 17%, while HCL Tech’s brand value rose by 3%. Both these brands made it to the top 10. Wipro’s brand value dropped by a sharp 42%. The rest of the list is dominated by banks, telecom companies with only one consumer company, Asian Paints in the top 10. risers of the year. TVS, valued at $1.9 billion, occupies the 51st rank. The company has gained 59% in value and leapt 24 places thanks to a number of successful product launches and a 10-year partnership with BMW that gives it leverage in markets such as Europe, the US and Canada. Mahindra is valued at $2.01 billion and occupies the 47th rank. Mahindra, which grew its value by 48%, made itself incredibly meaningful in consumers’ eyes, and also significantly boosted its salience. The sector saw the second highest category growth of 19%, after tobacco. Royal Enfield’s value also swelled, thanks to Indians’ preference for premium products. A lot of Indian auto brands, like Tata Motors, also entered EV markets and are able to meet consumer needs better, observes Rana. “Auto companies’ value declined during Covid and made a comeback after they dealt with supply chain issues and dealt with bottlenecks,” said Mohanty. India’s largest auto company Maruti Suzuki, however, shed 5% of its brand value, while Bajaj Auto’s brand value went up by 9%. The value in finance Financial services brands have grown their brand value by 6% with 16 brands and contributing to the biggest chunk of the total brand value. Meanwhile, Cred has entered at no 48 with a brand value of $2 billion. “Growth of credit and other digital trends are adding to the value of fintechs. There is a need for these services and brands are doing a good job of providing them,” Mohanty tells Business Insider India. PayTM, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Naukri, Oyo and Nykaa have shed value; while Byju’s hasn’t been included in the list this year. Tech Mahindra, Wipro and Dr Reddy’s Labs — only 3 Indian companies made it to Bloomberg Gender Equality Index

Continuing its acquisition spree, <keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword>, the IT arm of the <keyword id="6355744" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahindra-Group">Mahindra group</keyword>, has agreed to buy UK-based digital technology firm <keyword id="3436035" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="The-BIO-Agency">The BIO Agency</keyword> for an enterprise value of 40 million pounds. The deal also includes a surplus cash component not exceeding more than 5 million pounds. 
 
It was only last month that the company had bought UK-based financial services firm Target Group in a deal that was valued at more than 112 million pounds. 
 "The BIO Agency and Tech Mahindra will create one of the world's leading innovation practices. A combination of BIO's visionary thinking and delivery with Tech Mahindra's IT to Digital Transformation strategy will enable and create digital services," said Tech Mahindra CEO <keyword id="45959" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CP-Gurnani">CP Gurnani</keyword>. 
 
As per the deal, the company will pay 22 million pounds and the surplus cash upfront while the rest will be deferred, depending on how BIO Agency performs. 
 
The rewards given to the management of BIO Agency will also depend on the revenue that tbey will be bringing in over the next three years. 
 
For fiscal 2016, BIO had revenue of 12.5 million pounds, while for the year before that, it had revenue of 5.2 million pounds.

Tech Mahindra continues to expand, buys UK-based digital firm for £40 million

New Delhi, Jan 31 () IT services major Tech Mahindra on Friday said it will acquire 70 per cent stake in Bengaluru-based Cerium Systems at an enterprise value of up to Rs 245 crore.
 The acquisition will boost Tech Mahindra's Engineering Services practice in VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) and Embedded Software, Tech Mahindra said in a statement.
 "We continue to invest in niche digital assets complementing our service offerings. Cerium provides cutting edge solutions with a strong foothold in global semiconductor industry," Tech Mahindra Head of Corporate Development and Portfolio Companies Vivek Agarwal said.
 In a regulatory filing, Tech Mahindra said 70 per cent of the shares will be acquired upfront for an enterprise value not exceeding Rs 245 crore and the remaining 30 per cent will be acquired over the next two years at a valuation linked to the financial performance of the company.
 The cash transaction is expected to close by April 1, 2020, it added.
 "This acquisition is expected to help bolster capabilities in the areas of semiconductor design and testing, embedded software development/testing and product engineering," the filing said.
 Founded in 2013, Cerium is an integrated circuit and embedded software design service provider, and has around 840 employees.
 It has offices in Vishakhapatnam, Cochin, Santa Clara (US) and Penang (Malaysia). Its revenue stood at Rs 105.7 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2019. SR DRR

But the cumulatively strength of the industry to stay in the green has more to do with the hopes of a stronger dollar. Like India, the US is currently caught in the conundrum of chasing growth and rising prices. Investors in the US and Europe are on an earning streak, parking their funds in government securities at near-zero interest rates and making even more in emerging markets like India. But these low interest rates are not likely to last forever. The <keyword id="84979" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="European-Central-Bank">European Central Bank</keyword> (ECB) already announced last week that it would start purchasing bonds at a ‘significantly higher pace’ over the next three months in an attempt to get ahead of any potential inflation pressures in the coming months. The flip side of getting a big stimulus US President Joe Biden just signed the country’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package into law and is hoping that will help drive growth. But, where there is growth, there is also inflation. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), for instance, earns more than half of its revenue in dollars as an exporter of software services. The odds of an interest rate hike in the US are rising The US Federal Reserve’s Chair <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/despite-us-economic-recovery-federal-reserve-firm-on-keeping-interest-rates-low-101615696984892-amp.html">Jerome Powell</a> has been clear that if it comes to choosing between growth and inflation, the goal is to see more people back at work. “Today, we’re still a long way from our goals of maximum employment and inflation averaging 2% over time,” he said during the Wall Street Journal Jobs Summit on March 4. While the Fed is positive that it won’t need to step in and adjust interest rates before 2023, some feel that may be too optimistic a point of view. “Very low interest rates, which have held down debt service costs, will eventually rise despite the Federal Reserve’s commitment to an extended period of extremely accommodative monetary policy,” said global agency <a href="https://www.fitchratings.com/research/sovereigns/us-stimulus-will-boost-growth-at-cost-of-higher-deficits-debt-09-03-2021">Fitch Ratings. </a> This is supported by the fact that Fed Funds Futures — where investors can purchase funds in advance at prices they expect to see in the future — are beginning to signal that the US’ central bank could begin increasing rates in 2022. According to DataTrek co-founder <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/us-stocks-are-on-the-verge-of-a-correction-as-interest-rates-begin-to-rise-datatrek-says/articleshow/81094483.cms">Nicholas Colas</a>, the odds of the Federal Reserve shifting its policy stance next year has gone from 2% to anywhere between 5% to 10%. That doesn’t necessarily mean that inflation is on the move, but the trend is “clearly not our friend.” “This means inflation is likely to be a risk well into 2022. Good news of Indian IT services’ companies The rate hike in the US may lead to outflow of dollars from India, and make the rupee weaker, which will, in turn make imported commodities like crude oil more expensive and thereby, hurt a whole lot of businesses. Only for select companies like the software exporters, a stronger dollar will lead to better earnings in rupee terms.
