<ul><li><keyword id="1118568" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Milind-Kulkarni">Milind Kulkarni</keyword> is returning as the CFO of the $5.2 billion Indian IT services company <keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> starting April 2.</li><li>The man who began his professional journey at Cadbury after becoming a qualified chartered accountant has been with Tech Mahindra for 18 and a half years now.</li><li>His last stint as CFO of Tech Mahindra was between 2013 and 2018 before he retired to become a Senior Advisor.</li></ul>He’s been here before and he’s set to make a comeback — the qualified chartered accountant, Milind Kulkarni, will be returning as Tech Mahindra’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the next financial year. During his last stint as CFO, Kulkarni was at helm from 2013 to 2018. After his five year tenure was over, rather than leave the company, Kulkarni stuck around and served as a Senior Advisor for the IT services giant. In fact, Kulkarni’s been with Tech Mahindra for 18 and a half years now. When he first took up the post of CFO, the company was at the cusp of merging with its subsidiary Mahindra Satyam. This time around, Tech Mahindra is waiting on the boom from 5G to spur revenue growth and expand margins. Management expects that the gains from 5G will start flowing in during the second half of 2021. Kucch meetha ho jaye (let’s get something sweet) Before going on to become a chartered accountant in 1981, Kulkarni completed his Bachelor’s in Commerce from the ML Dahanukar College of Commerce in Mumbai. His first job was in the offices of Cadbury as a Manager of Accounts. After a brief stint at Standard Batteries after Cadbury, he moved onto become the General Manager of Finance at Mastek Limited, a software company that has a presence in the US and UK in addition to India. In another big career jump, Kulkarni went onto become the Group CFO of Venkateshwara Hatcheries — also known as the massive poultry brand Venky’s — in 1997. It was only in 2002 that he finally found his way to Tech Mahindra. Starting out as the Vice President of Finance, Kulkarni rose in the ranks to become the CFO in 2013. And in 2021, he’s making his comeback. Meet the 63-year old making a comeback as Tech Mahindra's CFO

<ul><li><keyword id="7681538" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra-CFO">Tech Mahindra CFO</keyword> <keyword id="388883" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manoj-Bhat">Manoj Bhat</keyword> is happy with the budget but feels more could have been done to address the needs of the IT services industry specifically.</li><li>Taxation, for instance, could have been simplified to ease the cost of doing business across multiple geographies.</li><li>Since the IT services industry has been a huge job creator in India, it would also have been helpful if there were more incentives for employment generation.</li></ul>India’s latest budget did acknowledge the role of technology in economic revival. For instance, the government plans to introduce e-courts for faster resolution of disputes. It also earmarked ₹1,500 crore to dole our financial incentives for digital transactions. However, what the IT services players in India, like <keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword>, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), wanted to see was some relief on taxes and incentives for job creation. “I think the government has come up with a budget that is investment oriented. In a lot of ways that ticks a lot of the boxes. But, specifically for IT services, there’s nothing there,” Tech Mahindra CFO, Manoj Bhat told Business Insider in an exclusive interview. Taxation is getting more complicated world over The industry lobby, NASSCOM, hoped for some clarity on the tax framework with more employees working from home — a trend that many companies plan to stick to in some form or the other in the long run. “As companies like us become larger and operate in so many countries, helping us work through some easier tax situations esp in international context whether its around transfer pricing or some of the other laws that are coming through would have been nice,” said Bhat. Transfer pricing relates to the prices charged by different entities — located in different jurisdictions — for goods and services. The tax rules related to transfer pricing are complex. Governments, in India and abroad, are becoming increasingly proactive in scrutinising transfer pricing policies and practices. The IT services industries is a big job creator At a time when the Indian economy needs a demand boost, Tech Mahindra’s CFO also believes that the budget could have done with adding some incentives for job creation. “That’s something they should consider perhaps in terms of continuing some of the benefits that were offered in the past few years that are no longer there,” said Bhat. In the past, the sector has been a huge boon for creating new opportunities and helping the economy grow. NASSCOM estimates that the $200 billion industry created over 200,000 new jobs in 2019 — a year that saw massive unemployment in India. “We require WFH to be enabled in SEZs (Special Economic Zones on a long-term basis. Since this requires movement of duty-free goods like laptops etc outside the SEZs, the Finance Ministry should provide the requisite clarifications under Customs and GST,” said NASSCOM in their pre-budget expectations. Even though bigger players can do without the incentives, smaller and upcoming IT companies would have welcomed the relief. The demand for talent is also on the rise as businesses that were once hesitant about going digital are bringing up their timelines to ensure that their customers can still reach them even if stepping out of the house isn’t an option. INTERVIEW: Two things on Tech Mahindra CFO’s wishlist for the Budget 2021-22 that were left unaddressed

<ul><li>Tech Mahindra’s share price hit a new high of ₹910 apiece after announcing its plans to target $100 billion in cloud services and its leverage in 5G.</li><li>According to analysts, the company is well poised to gain from the global increase in IT spend and has the healthiest deal pipeline of the last four quarters. </li><li>However, Tech Mahindra CFO Manoj Bhat notes that the gains from the company’s investments in 5G are unlikely to kick in before the next fiscal year. </li></ul>Tech Mahindra’s share price is up by 1.5% after analysts gave the company an optimistic review. On the other hand, it also wants to get its hands on the $100 billion in IT services spend, expected to come through large deals, data centre monetisation, and scaling up software-as-a-service (SaaS) platforms. “We remain positive on the company as it is well poised to capture improving IT spend in communication and digital traction on the enterprise side. The roll-out of the new network has slipped on the list of priorities for many in the battle against the pandemic. Even though Tech Mahindra’s focus is squarely on 5G, there is a lack of clarity around the timeline, according to Motilal Oswal. While the IT services company will definitely gain if and when 5G emerges full throttle, especially as a partner with the Japanese Rakuten Mobile, it won’t likely be in the current fiscal year. “Activity in the telecom sector is starting to happen, both in the IT and networks side. But the network side revival has been slower. It has grown slower than the rest of the business. We still believe 5G will appear more in FY 22, and not in the current fiscal,” Tech Mahindra CFO Manoj Bhat told Business Insider in an interview last month. Currently, Tech Mahindra sees 5G as a $63 to $83 billion opportunity between 2020 to 2025. According to <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/markets/tech-mahindra-stock-hits-an-all-time-high-on-bullish-analyst-ratings">Jefferies</a>, the company is well-placed to leverage the 5G cycle once it kicks off. A new strategy for cloud and platforms Global spending on cloud services is expected to hit $1 trillion in 2024 spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). The strongest growth in the ‘as a service’ category set to account for more to 60% of cloud revenues worldwide. Within that, Tech Mahindra is targeting the smallest cloud category — infrastructure build. This includes hardware, software, and support for enterprise private clouds and service provider public clouds. According to the management, there are currently 73 large deals in the pipeline, which shows a 20% growth over the last six months. “Deal pipeline healthiest in the last four quarters,” noted <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/markets/tech-mahindra-stock-hits-an-all-time-high-on-bullish-analyst-ratings">Morgan Stanley</a>. Tech Mahindra's share price hits a new high as the company targets the $100 billion cloud opportunity and guns for 5G

<ul><li>The demand-supply gap between fresh talent and the skill demands of the <keyword id="6368235" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-services">IT services</keyword> industry is only going to increase in the coming days.</li><li><keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> points out that while skills are high in demand, clients are willing to pay a premium because the pace of change is so fast.</li><li>For now, talent availability is trumping the ‘rate discussion’ as clients look to speed up their digital transformation.</li></ul>Reskilling employees in the IT services sector is not a new phenomenon. However, since COVID-19 pushed so many businesses to expedite their digital journey, the demand for these skills is higher than ever. “I see some of the skills which are high in demand, but clients are willing to pay a premium because of the pace of change. What is impacting us, is also impacting our clients,” Vivek Agarwal, the head of corporate development and global head for healthcare and financial Services at Tech Mahindra told Business Insider in an exclusive interaction. A study by <a href="https://nasscom.in/knowledge-center/publications/futureskills-talent-india-demand-supply-analysis">NASSCOM</a> estimates that India’s demand for digital talents is around eight times larger than the size of its fresh talent pool. In another three years, this demand is expected to be twenty times greater than the available manpower. Analysts <a href="https://www.livemint.com/market/mark-to-market/tech-mahindra-s-stellar-margins-steal-the-show-but-may-not-sustain-11611933180424.html">caution</a> that hiring based on specific talents could come at a higher cost. This could possibly impact the stellar margins that Tech Mahindra has seen over the past two quarters. “Talent availability is trumping the ‘rate discussion’ right now for a lot of these ‘very much in demand’ skills,” said Agarwal. Tech Mahindra has four vertices in its line of sight According to Tech Mahindra’s CFO, Manoj Bhat, the company will be doubling down on four vertices — communications, manufacturing, healthcare and BFSI. “That is where our investments are going to be,” he told Business Insider. And, within these vertices, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital is where the company is looking for the right set of skills. “Full chain execution — where somebody can deliver a program effectively — is more important to clients than just finding the right individual talent,” explained Agarwal. More deals, more money, and the need for more talent According to Bhat, Tech Mahindra’s pipeline today may be at an ‘all time high’. “It’s a very big pipeline today. We should see acceleration of deal wins going into Q4 and beyond, hopefully,” he said. And, with more deal wins, having the right talent on hand is more important than ever. COVID-19 has highlighted the drawbacks of what happens when a business doesn’t go digital, which is why businesses want ways to access their customers in a manner that is not solely dependent on a physical connection, according to Bhat. “A lot of customers are also looking at total outsourcing in a very different manner, which will then allow them some sayings on their operational spends, which will help fund a lot of these initiatives,” he explained. On the one hand, talent is going to get more expensive as the demand-supply gap widens. But, at the same time ‘work from anywhere’ is going to help expand the fresh talent pool as Indian IT services companies like Tech Mahindra look to capitalise on the third wave of outsourcing. The Mahindra Group company posted a net profit of Rs 493.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing. Revenue rose by 3.49 per cent to Rs 13,313.2 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25 compared to Rs 12,863.9 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24. "Other income includes gain on sale of property of Rs 4,502 million which comprises of freehold land and its related buildings along with the furniture &amp; fixtures sold for a consideration of Rs 5,350 million, receivable over a period of four years along with interest of 8.2 per cent p.a," the company filing said. Sequentially, net profit rose by 46.81 per cent and revenue by 2.36 per cent. "We continue to progress on our strategic improvement efforts even as the overall IT services industry has remained soft. "We have focused on strengthening client relationships and expanding the partner ecosystem while maintaining a sharp focus on operational excellence through project Fortius, which has resulted in an expansion of margins for the third sequential quarter," Tech Mahindra CEO Mohit Joshi said. The CEO unveiled Project Fortius in April, a three-year plan to achieve a 15 per cent operating margin with a focus on organic growth. "This quarter we see consistent performance around increasing deal wins, <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, cost optimisation and steady free cash flow generation as we continue our journey towards FY27 stated targets. In line with our capital allocation policy the board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share," Tech Mahindra CFO Rohit Anand said. The company's TCV (<keyword id="23580531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Total-Contract-Value" source="keywords">Total Contract Value</keyword>), or net new deal wins, stood at USD 603 million in the second quarter of FY25. Joshi further said the company is on the right path for a long-term sustainable transformation, with its leading indicators moving in the right direction, and its 'Scale at Speed' narrative resonating in the market. "We have invested in strengthening the capabilities in the focus service lines by broadening the leadership and investing in technical specializations. "We continue to invest in strengthening our fresher hiring program, building the right mindset and future skilling and associates, by building capabilities in AI-first and cloud-first skill sets," he told reporters. Investments shall continue in creating and sustaining an outcome-driven learning organisation and cultivating a high-performance culture based on the pillars of simplifying, clarifying, innovating and driving a high-performance orientation, he added. This year could be volatile because we are in the turnaround phase, Joshi said. "I am confident, however, that the platform is being set for a long-term, valuable franchise thanks to a high-calibre and united leadership team and a clearly articulated strategic plan," Joshi said. The Pune-headquartered firm added 6,653 employees during the quarter under review, bringing the total staff count to 1,54,273. The <keyword id="6389012" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="directorate-of-education">Directorate of Education</keyword> (DoE) of the Delhi Government issued a schedule regarding this. According to the DoE, admission in private schools this year will be conducted via online mode. However, the admission process in the government-run schools would be held through both online and offline modes. As per the schedule, the <keyword id="465346" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="registration-process">registration process</keyword> for the nursery admissions will start from February 18, and the last date of filling the forms is March 4. As per the DoE, the first list of admitted students will be released on March 20 and the second list will be on March 25. The process of admission will be completed by March 31. There are around 1,700 schools in the national capital where nursery admission will be held with certain guidelines issued by the Delhi government. New Delhi, Software major <keyword id="99699" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adobe">Adobe</keyword> has introduced a useful <keyword id="6399502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="feature">feature</keyword> where multiple people can work on the same file in <keyword id="6597155" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Photoshop">Photoshop</keyword>, Illustrator or Fresco. The 'Invite to <keyword id="72478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="edit">Edit</keyword>' feature in Photoshop, Illustrator and Fresco software allows asynchronous editing on all surfaces across the desktop, iPad, and <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> (Fresco). "Now collaborators can edit a shared cloud document, one at a time. Just save your .PSD or .AI files as cloud documents and send invitations for others to edit them," the company said in a statement on Tuesday. This means that collaborators will not be able to work on the file live alongside you, but they will be able to open up the work and make changes and save those. You can also edit files that have been shared with you. "In addition, you can access your shared cloud documents on assets.adobe.com and the Creative Cloud Desktop app". The new feature is a huge time saver for teams working on shared projects. Adobe also announced that users can sync their Photoshop presets wherever they use Photoshop. "This includes brushes, swatches, gradients, patterns, styles and shapes. Preset Sync is shipping today in the desktop version on <keyword id="62949" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="MaC">Mac</keyword> and Windows, and synced brushes will be coming soon on the iPad version," the company informed.
