Ahead of the festive season, the airfare from <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword>, <keyword id="6358070" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mumbai" source="Orion">Mumbai</keyword> and Kolkata to <keyword id="6358805" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="patna" source="Orion">Patna</keyword> has registered a more than three-fold rise over the off-peak season rates. The price of the Delhi to Patna flight on October 22 was Rs 14,000 while the airfare from Mumbai to Patna reached Rs 20,000. The current fare from these two places to Patna is more than the rate from Delhi to Sharjah, which is Rs 11,000. Delhi to Bangkok's current ticket costs Rs 10,500, and Delhi to Singapore is priced at Rs 13,000. The air ticket from Kolkata to Patna was hiked to Rs 10,500. The airline companies during the peak season were taking advantage of the flexible fare. The experts believe that the spike may continue. The air tickets from other cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat and others have also increased. One of the biggest reasons for the spikes in airfare is the unavailability of train tickets. The waiting lists for trains are very high and even <keyword id="56937" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tatkal" source="Orion">Tatkal</keyword> tickets are not available. Meanwhile, Northern Railway has decided to run 32 additional mail and express trains bound for Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, <keyword id="2634001" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jay-nagar" source="Orion">Jay Nagar</keyword>, Kishanganj, Katihar, and Barauni (Begusarai) to provide some relief to the passengers. The officials are claiming to run a total of 211 trains till Chatth Puja. The trains will start from Jammu, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Delhi, Bhiwani and Pathankot. Three-fold rise in airfares to Patna from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata ahead of festivals

Uncertainly over online train tickets seem to have hit a dead end. <keyword id="65866" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IRCTC">IRCTC</keyword> has just announced that you can opt for Pay on Delivery for your <keyword id="56937" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tatkal">tatkal</keyword> train tickets just like your online shopping. IRCTC users will be able to pay for tickets via cash or a debit or credit card by opting to have tickets delivered at their doorstep. The service, which was available for general reservations up till now, will be a game changer for Tatkal bookings as it will allow users to book tickets with just two clicks. IRCTC has collaborated with <keyword id="255717" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anduril-Technologies">Anduril Technologies</keyword> Pvt Ltd for the doorstep delivery process. Anduril Technologies provides pay-on-delivery service to 4000+ pincodes across India. In case of refusal or cancellation before delivery, the customer will be liable to pay the cancellation and delivery charges., failing which may attract deactivation of user’s account and strict action as per law. IRCTC processes 130,000 Tatkal transactions daily, and a majority of these tickets are booked within minutes of Tatkal quota being opened for booking. Until now, users had to pay first via the standard online payment gateways before the IRCTC portal confirmed their ticket; a process that introduced a delay of several precious seconds and often led to users not able to book a confirmed ticket. The ‘pay on delivery’ feature completely circumvents the use of a payment gateway and will help users make the bookings in just a few seconds; greatly increasing their chance of booking a confirmed ticket under the Tatkal quota. So what’s the procedure to get tatkal tickets at doorstep? The customers need to first register with irctc.payondelivery.co.in in order to avail the ‘pay on delivery’ option. They need to tender either Adhaar or PAN details at the time of registration. While booking the ticket on IRCTC portal, the user then needs to choose the ‘pay-on-delivery’ option. The digital delivery happens instantly via SMS / Email. The collection happens within 24 Hrs of the booking The customer can also pay online through a payment link that will be sent to them at time of booking. Pay only for successful transactions The new IRCTC ‘pay on delivery’ feature eliminates the transaction failures, often the money gets debited and the ticket is not issued on account of multiple reasons. With the Pay-on-delivery option on IRCTC, users will pay only when the tickets are booked.

Now pay on delivery when you book tatkal tickets

The patent regime in India is all set to be streamlined, since the government would now offer an option of 'Tatkal' window, so that patent applications can be cleared at the earliest. 
 
Not only this, the government is also planning to significantly cut down the time period for which patents are granted, to two and a half years immediately and one and a half years by March 2018. As of now, it ranges from 5 to 7 years. 
 
The modified patent rules would allow entities to choose the fast clearance route so that they can get patents earlier in return of some additional fees, in case they select India as International Search Authority or International Preliminary Examining Authorities. For this, they would have to file their applications in India first. 
 
"The move is aimed at popularising India as a patent filing hub so that more companies file applications in India," said Rajiv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, DIPP. 
 
These benefits will only be made available to new applicants. 
 
Start-ups meeting the prescribed criteria will also be able to use the Tatkal route. While individuals and start-ups would need to pay Rs 8,000 for this, for companies this fee could be as much as Rs 60,000.

<keyword id="9880357" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railofy">Railofy</keyword>, a Mumbai-based start-up, has launched India's first 'Waitlist and RAC Protection' service, aimed towards tackling the problems faced by the passengers travelling by trains after being put on the waiting list. Trains remains the most preferred option for the majority of passengers mainly since tickets are less expensive compared to flights. Unfortunately, on some occasions, passengers need to cancel their journey if their names do not appear in the journey chart, even after being put on the waiting list. However, by using the Railofy app, or by visiting its website, a passenger can enter the PNR number of their ticket. The traveller also needs to pay a fee, which is determined according to each trip. After this, Railofay keeps tracking the passenger's waiting list tickets. If the passenger's ticket is not confirmed until the last minute, the app provides a flight ticket to the passenger, at the same price as that of the train's. Deepika Agarwal, a passenger, told IANS: "We had to travel from Mumbai to Delhi, and the tickets for six passengers were on the waiting list. After our tickets were not confirmed even at the last minute, we completed our journey through this app. "The price of Tatkal ticket was Rs 4,000 and a flight ticket was around Rs 5,000. We took the waitlist protection from Railofy. We got a flight ticket for just 2,000 rupees after the chart was made." "About 30 crore passengers in India face the problem of being put on the waiting list. We want the travellers to have no hassles during the journey. We started the app in January 2020 and in the first few months, only about 100 passengers availed our services and completed their journey," Rohan, a founding member of Railofy, told IANS. "Railofay service is currently available for all trains and across all its classes. The migrant labourers also took advantage of our facility amid the corona pandemic. Those who are returning to work again are also completing their journey through us," he said. Rohan said Railofy also helps those passengers whose towns or villages are away from the airport. He said though Railofy is making the long-distance journey easier, it has also started providing bus facilities for shorter routes so that passengers have the least trouble. Your unconfirmed train ticket may now get you a plane ride

In 2018, <keyword id="6355455" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-railways">Indian Railways</keyword> Catering and Tourism Corporation (<keyword id="65866" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IRCTC">IRCTC</keyword>) introduced a ‘Vikalp Scheme’ for the passengers who have been on the waiting list to get their tickets confirmed. This will ensure confirmed berths for passengers on the waiting list in alternate trains. However, the boarding and terminal stops might change to nearby stations according to the train schedule. The confirmation of seats in the alternative trains will depend on the availability of seats, and cancellation charges will also apply. The alternate options will be considered within a specific time slot — 30 minutes to 72 hours after the scheduled original train. Regardless of the booking quota — Tatkal reservations and concessions, the Vikalp scheme can be implemented all trains under IRCTC. In case, the passengers want to cancel the alternate train as well, the cancellation policy will apply as for a normal passenger. The passengers can reach out the IRCTC’s helpline on Call Centre (139) and at www.indianrail.gov.in.

The <keyword id="6360676" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="railways">Railways</keyword> has earned an additional revenue of Rs 540 crore in less than a year through the flexi fare scheme and there is no plan to discontinue it, a senior ministry official told PTI. The scheme, launched on September 9 last year, is applicable in Rajdhani, <keyword id="66524" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="shatabdi">Shatabdi</keyword> and <keyword id="6443658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="duronto">Duronto</keyword> trains, allowing 10 per cent of the seats to be sold at normal fare and thereafter increasing it by 10 per cent with every 10 per cent of berths sold with a ceiling of 50 per cent. "We have earned money from flexi fare and there is no reason why we should discontinue it. In fact, we have gained 85,000 additional passengers in these trains since we launched the scheme, showing that even passengers are not averse to the scheme," said a senior official of the ministry. The official told PTI that from September 2016-June 30, 2017, the Railways earned an additional revenue of Rs 540 crore. The scheme, which officials say will be continuously reviewed, saw a revision last December after the Railways took note of vacant seats in such trains. The Railways made changes in the flexi fare structure to attract last minute travellers and introduced a range of discounts. The 30 per cent tatkal charges have been waived for these premium trains, a 10 per cent rebate on basic fare has been offered on vacant berths after preparation of first chart in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto to lure last minute travellers, provision of tatkal quota has been reduced to 10 per cent from 30 per cent of the total berths available and there is also a provision for discounted fares for some trains. "The scheme now comes with a lot of discounts for passengers and it is a success. However, there is always scope for more reviews," the official added. The numbers show a positive trend - during September 2016-June 2017, Duronto trains earned Rs 140 crore more than the amount earned in the same period last year while Shatabdi trains earned Rs 120 crore more. There are total 42 Rajdhani trains, 46 Shatabdi and 54 Duronto trains. "Just to give an indication of how much the railways is expected to gain from the scheme - we have earned an additional revenue of Rs 240 crore from April-June this year, which is around Rs 80 crore additional revenue per month. This comes to around Rs 960 crore per annum. These are good signs," the official said.

Start-ups from all over the world will now be able to register their patents in India at a faster rate and for much lower costs, thanks to a 'tatkal (instant)' option that the government is offering under its latest amended patent rules. 
 
These benefits will also be available to entities who would be filing their first application in India. 
 
As reported yesterday, India has changed the rules for patent registration, also including the definition of 'start-up' in the patent rules so that special benefits can be passed on to the start-ups. As per the amended rules, the time period for granting patents has been reduced from 5-7 years to 2.5 years immediately and would further be reduced to 1.5 years by March 2018. 
 
"We want to encourage domestic filings," said Rajiv Aggarwal, joint secretary of DIPP. 
 
Talking of start-ups, they have been qualified as "individual persons" rather than companies, so that patent fees can come down and make them eligible for 80% rebate, according to the start-up action plan. 
 
For ‘tatkal’ scheme, start-ups will have to pay Rs 8,000 while for companies it is about Rs 60,000. 
 
Not only this, amended rules also hint at refund of patent fees for the first time. When an application is withdrawn and there is no need for the request for examination, 90% of the amount would be reimbursed.

Global start-ups will now be able to register cheaper & faster patents in India

In a welcome move, the <keyword id="6374106" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ministry-of-External-Affairs">ministry of external affairs</keyword> has announced two major changes to fast-track the process of getting passports for the first time. 
 
Now Indian citizens can get a fresh normal category passport under a week’s time. One would only need three documents, copies of Aadhaar card, electoral photo identity card (EPIC) and PAN card, besides an affidavit in the format of Annexure-I (declaration of citizenship, family details and no criminal record). 
 
As of now, the process took a month, because of the police verification that took up a lot of time. 
 
In the changed rules, police verification will be conducted after the passport is issued. This was reserved only for the Tatkal process, a costlier but effective process. Now there would be no extra charge for the service. 
 
However, for this process, online validation of the Aadhaar number at the time of processing would be required, along with an approval from the granting officer. 
 
"There are plenty of inbuilt safeguards in our system which can instantly spot fake identities and forgeries. Most importantly, our system is linked to the Aadhaar database which helps conduct real-time verification of the applicant while he/she is still at the passport seva kendra," Anil Kumar Sobti, director of the passport division in the ministry, told TOI. 
 
 
"We are trying to integrate EPIC and PAN cards as well. Additionally, the granting officer interviewing the applicant can use his discretion to extend or withhold the facility. Besides, the option of impounding or revoking the passport post issuance is always available and we have exercised it several times in 2015," Sobti stated. 
 
The second change will give applicants the liberty to choose a date from the next five available working days to schedule their appointment at their chosen Passport Seva Kendra under the relevant Regional Passport Office (RPO).
