Private steel major <keyword id="6357147" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-steel">Tata Steel</keyword> will pay a total of ₹270.28 crore as annual bonus for the accounting year 2020-2021 to its eligible employees of all applicable division /units of the company, a release said. A <keyword id="398939" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="memorandum-of-settlement">Memorandum of Settlement</keyword> was signed on Wednesday between Tata Steel and the Tata Workers' Union, for payment of annual bonus for the accounting year 2020-2021, the release issued by the company said. The total payout for eligible employees of all applicable divisions/ units of the company will be Rs 270.28 crore. Out of this, various divisions at Jamshedpur including Tubes, an amount of ₹158.31 crore will be given. The minimum and maximum annual bonus payable will be ₹34,920 and ₹3,59,029 respectively. T V Narendran, CEO &amp; MD, Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President (HRM) and other senior executives signed on management's behalf while Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, president, <keyword id="230274" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Workers-Union">Tata Workers Union</keyword>, Shailesh Kumar Singh, deputy president, Tata Workers' Union, Satish Kumar Singh, general secretary, Tata Workers' Union and other office bearers signed on Union's behalf. Further, a Memorandum of Agreement has also been signed between the steel company and the Indian National Metal Workers' Federation (INMWF) and Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS). Total payout on account of annual bonus at Coal, Mines and FAMD is ₹78.04 crore approximately. Tata Steel announces ₹270 crore annual bonus for all eligible employees for 2020-21

New Delhi, Jun 11 () Workers of Tata Steel's Dutch operations at IJmuiden unit are worried and demanding job security from the management, labour union Federatie Nederlandse Vakverenigingen (FNV) said on Thursday.        On Wednesday, the workers of company's IJmuiden unit boycotted work and went on a strike, FNV said in a statement.        From 2 pm afternoon, workers at the ore preparation area of plant went on strike, affecting the supply of the raw material for the blast furnaces, pellet factory and sinter factory, it said.        In the statement, Roel Berghuis, spokesman of FNV, of which thousands of Tata Steel IJmuiden plant workers are members, said: "It is for the first time in 28 years that people at Tata Steel IJmuiden are on strike. That shows how much the people of Tata Steel Netherlands are concerned."        According to the Dutch labour union, the "inevitable move" was taken when the management of Tata Steel did not respond to the demands of the employees.        The workers want, among other things, the guarantee that there will be no redundancies and that no jobs will disappear.        "The Indian owners want to cut thousands of jobs at Tata Steel Europe. Last month, chairman of Tata Steel Netherlands Theo Henrar was suddenly laid off. Still, there has not been a proper explanation about that departure. They (workers) are fed up and want...the survival of Tata Steel in IJmuiden.         "Furthermore, the staff requires that agreements in the Employment Pact are extended until 2026 and that no parts of Tata Steel Netherlands are sold," it said.        In its response, Tata Steel said it recognises the uncertainty in the minds of the employees and respects the rights of the workers in IJmuiden steelworks.        In the current environment of global uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has been working with all stakeholders, including the unions in both Netherlands and the UK, to meet the challenges.         Tata Steel also said it had requested the union in the Netherlands to postpone industrial action so it could continue discussions and find the best way forward to meet everyone's interests, and added the industrial action will only put further pressure on the company's results as it continues to deal with the impact of lower steel demand caused by the pandemic.       It is important all stakeholders make every effort to keep the company in good health.        "We value the dialogue with our employee representatives and we will continue discussions with them. We have invited the FNV union for a conversation and while it has not responded, our door is still open and the company looks forward to an active engagement with the unions in the coming days," Tata Steel said. COVID-19: 'Worried' workers at Tata Steel's Dutch unit demand job security

<keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword> is waiting for July 15 as its 17,000 workers in Britain will announce the result of the ballot on modified <keyword id="6354432" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="pension">pension</keyword> scheme on this date. 

	The steel major told ET NOW that the pension deficit will be reduced by "£900 million" from around £2 billionn, if this pension scheme gets the approval of the U.K. workers. 
 It has come with a few modifications to the current <keyword id="2764203" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="British-Steel-Pension-Scheme">British Steel Pension Scheme</keyword> applicable to its workers in the UK-based steel mills. Tata Steel said: "The modifications will be reflected on finalisation of the triennial valuation of the pension scheme as at March 31 2014." 

	As per an ET report, the steel major has a two-pronged strategy. "The introduction of the pensionable earnings growth cap and the move to cost-neutral early retirement terms are the key factors that will address the deficit," it said. 
 

	ET NOW is in possession of the scheme document which is being deliberated upon by the UK workers. When the company was contacted for the same, it shared the key features of the scheme: 
	 
	· Existing members of the UK final salary pension scheme will continue to accrue future service in the scheme, though with modifications 
	 
	· Employees aged 60 and over will still be able to retire early, subject to the introduction of reductions to reflect the cost of early payment, phased in over several years 
	 
	· Pensionable earnings growth in the final salary scheme will be capped at 1.75% per annum 
	 
	· Pensionable earnings above this cap will be pensionable on a defined contribution basis 
	 This could be a big relief to the company for which the pension liability is growing at a faster rate than the return on <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> it gets for its pension plan assets, widening the deficit. 
	 
	The firm said: "Notwithstanding the projected deficit identified by the current valuation, the scheme's assets have risen strongly in recent years - at about £14 billion they are around 50% higher than in 2009." 
	 
	Tata Steel's UK workers will vote to decide on the modified pension scheme. The company told ET NOW: "A new round of roadshows has started in which the modifications are being explained to employees." 
	 
	The present pension scheme had received a positive response from the leading trade unions and had been put to vote.

STEEL SAVED: Tata sells plants to Greybull Capital

The death toll in India due to the pandemic rose to 308 on Monday after 35 new fatalities were reported, while the number of cases climbed to 9,152, according to the Union Health Ministry. The UK accounts for about 18%, or about $18-$19 billion, of export revenue annually, according to industry body Nasscom. 
 
According to Back-The-Mac, a group that campaigns against the use of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ICT">ICT</a> visas, the number of Indian workers on ICT visas in the UK was the highest at 36,762 as of December 2014. 
 
Meanwhile, Indian IT companies fall under UK's tier-II visas that pertain to skilled workers from outside the UK. 
 
The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has asked for suggestions from partners to help it formulate a response to the review of tier-II visas. 
 
Among the questions asked is the impact of putting tighter ICT "restrictions on the IT sector specifically" and the impact of the use of ICT provisions in the IT sector on existing UK companies and resident workers. 
 
"The most worrisome proposal is the restriction on numbers of tier-II visas as that will reduce deployment agility. The second one is the increased cost due to the minimum wage and additional employer levy which will increase the cost of delivery and adversely affect market competitiveness for Indian companies," said Sanjoy Sen, doctoral research scholar, Aston Business School, UK. 
 
However, Nasscom said there will be no impact on net migration in the UK because of the ICT visa, which is similar to the L-1 visas used in the US.

<keyword id="106216" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ford-india" source="Orion">Ford India</keyword> Private Ltd, which is shutting down its plant near here, has arrived at a final severance package settlement with the workers union, the company said on Wednesday. According to Ford <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, as per the agreed settlement, it will revise the final severance settlement to an average equivalent of 140 days of gross wages per completed year of service from the ongoing offer of 130 days. An additional one-time lump sum of Rs 1.5 lakh will also be included in the final settlement. The cumulative severance for each employee will range from a minimum amount of Rs 34.5 lakh and a maximum cap of Rs 86.5 lakh. "The revised settlement will translate to an average of about 5.1 years/62 months of salary for each employee (from a minimum of 3.9 years i.e., 47 months to a maximum of 8.7 years i.e., 105 months)," Ford India said. The formal settlement agreement is planned to be executed before the end of September. The company will notify employees of the next steps and looks forward to completing the exit formalities by September 30, and will continue paying wages to all employees till the date to support the exit formalities. In September 2021, Ford India announced its decision to wind down vehicle assembly in Gujarat's Sanand by the fourth quarter of 2021, and vehicle and engine manufacturing in <keyword id="12864" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="chennai" source="Orion">Chennai</keyword> by the second quarter of 2022. Ford India had set up four plants in the country -- vehicle and engine plants in Chennai and Sanand. The company sold its Gujarat facility for Rs 725.70 crore to <keyword id="15050921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-passenger-electric" source="Orion">Tata Passenger Electric</keyword> Mobility Ltd. The plant in Sanand includes the entire land and buildings, the vehicle manufacturing plant, along with its machinery and equipment, and transfer of all eligible employees of Ford India's vehicle manufacturing operations. Ford India will continue to operate its powertrain manufacturing facility by leasing back the land and buildings of the powertrain manufacturing plant from Tata Passenger Electric. Tata Passenger Electric has agreed to offer employment to the eligible employees of Ford India's powertrain unit when the latter stops such operations. Ford India finalises severance package with workers at Chennai plant

Mumbai, Mar 30 () Amidst the mounting human crisis arising from the fleeing migrant workers, who form a vast majority of the nation's labour force, the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, which employs as much as 70,000 migrant workers, has announced that it will take care of all their needs at their respective workplaces.The 155-year-old Shapoorji Pallonji Group, which owns over 18 per cent in Tata Sons, employs a little over 1,10,000 employees across its sites. Of these 45,000 are manning the 430 sites in the country, and 25,000 are at 130 sites abroad. These direct workers are supported by 40,000 subcontracted workers, taking the total worker strength to 1,10,000. "The difficult and trying situation the humanity faces today is unprecedented, on account of the global spread of the Covid19 pandemic. This calls for governments, institutions, corporates and citizens to take several measures, immediate/short-term/long-term, to contain its spread and provide relief to those suffering from it, particularly the weaker sections of society," the company chairman Shapoor P Mistry said in an internal letter.According to a 2017 report of the Working Group on Migration carried out by the Union housing and urban poverty alleviation ministry, top 17 districts in the country see 25 per cent of its men migrating out for work. And according to the FY2018-19 economic survey, as much as 93 per cent of our workforce is informal-meaning no secured salaries and other benefits and of these 20 per cent are migrant labourers whose earnings amounted to 6 per cent of GDP and their remittances amounted to 2 per cent of GDP.Against this, the government's entire financial package for the poor and to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic is a paltry 1 per cent of the GDP.Mistry says the company operates worker camps at most of its project sites with good living conditions, providing lodging, boarding, transport, medical/ hygiene facilities, recreation, daily briefings and communication, regular sanitization, hospital tie-ups etc. "We have now made provisions to ensure that for the entire April, all personnel in our camps get adequate food and water, visits by trained medical staff and medicines as required in major camps, and isolation facilities for special medical care are created wherever needed," Mistry said in the letter to the management and the staff. Explaining the move as his company's "investment in our committed workforce and also to ensure that the migrant labourers stay put at their workplaces and do not need to return to their homes."The construction sector directly employs more than 4.5 crore, contributing over 8.5 per cent of GDP, and generates nearly 4 times more employment through vendors, subcontractors.The Covid-19 pandemic poses a very serious and immediate threat to undermine this entire industry, which would very adversely impact the nation's progress, he warned.Mistry also called upon the government to strengthen the social safety net to support the large body of construction workers and also to announce a comprehensive financial assistance package for the construction sector at the earliest. Shapoorji Pallonji Group says taking care of its 1.1 lakh workers at their locations

The proposed amendment to the definition of health insurance business is not exhaustive and may lead to disputes at the time of claims, said four <keyword id="57570" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Unions" source="Orion">unions</keyword> in the Life Insurance Corporation of India (<keyword id="6367143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LIC" source="Orion">LIC</keyword>). The Unions also said the proposed amendments does not define the term liability which may lead to misappropriation by the insurers. The four unions are: Federation of LIC of India Class I Officers' Association, National Federation of Insurance Field Workers of India, All India Insurance Employees Association and All India LIC Employees Federation. The Indian government has proposed drastic changes to the two insurance laws - Insurance Act 1938 and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act 1999- and has called for stakeholders views the planned changes. Scrapping of the statutory Rs 100 crore startup capital for life and general insurance business and Rs 200 crore for reinsurance business, allowing different kinds of insurers including captives, changing the investment provisions are some of the major amendments proposed by the Indian government to the insurance laws. The government also proposes to allow an insurer to distribute other financial products as specified by and subject to regulations and to services related or incidental to insurance business. As per the proposed amendment to Section 2(6C) of the Insurance Act 1938 "health insurance business" means effecting contracts of insurance that provide sickness benefits or pay for medical and health expenses. Quoting the existing definition in the Act, the four unions said the existing definition of health insurance business is explicit to include sickness, medical, surgical or hospital expense benefits. However, the proposed amendment is not elaborative which may lead to dispute during a claim and the insurers may find scope to harass the customer. Therefore, the existing definition should not be replaced, the four unions said. The employee unions are also opposed to the idea of insurers distributing insurers to distribute other financial products as it may distract the companies from their insurance products, distribution and proper attention on serving the policyholders. Industry experts also told IANS that the policyholders funds should be ring fenced so that it is not touched by the players in the case of any liability that may arise due to selling other financial products. The amendments to the laws are proposed in order to increase the penetration of insurance in the country, which continues to be low even after over two decades after opening up the sector. The employee unions are also against the government's plan to bring down the net owned funds to Rs.500 crore from the existing Rs 5,000 crore for a reinsurer. Moreover, the minimum requirement of Rs 5,000 crore was enacted years back. Since then, huge inflation has taken place. "Reduction in requirement by one tenth may result in insolvency which will put the customers in great sufferings. Therefore, we are of the opinion not to reduce the amount of net owned funds for new registration," the unions said. Referring to the proposed amendments to Section 27 of the Insurance Act, the unions said the proposed change does not define the liability, which may lead to misappropriation by the insurers. Therefore, the liability must be defined in explicit terms. On the proposed deletion of Section 27A of the Insurance Act the unions said: "This section deals with the provision of investments with a conservative view to safeguard the interests of the policy holders. Omission of this section may allow for irresponsible investments by the insurers causing huge harm to the customers." The unions are also against allowing multilevel marketing in the insurance sector. Appointment of principal agent, chief agent and special agent to transact any insurance business will bring complexity in the system and will increase the probability of mis-selling as well as fraudulent acts, they said. The UK's new post-Brexit points-based visa and immigration system, described by the government as "simple, effective and flexible", opened for applications from Tuesday. The UK Home Office said applicants for the new <keyword id="302785" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="skilled-worker">Skilled Worker</keyword> Visa can now apply to work and live in the UK from January 1, 2021, when the Brexit transition period ends to bring European Union (EU) migrants in line with non-EU countries, such as India. Under the new points-based immigration system unveiled earlier, points will be awarded for a job offer at the appropriate skill level, knowledge of English and being paid a minimum salary. "This government promised to end free movement, to take back control of our borders and to introduce a new points-based immigration system. Today, we have delivered on that promise," said Home Secretary Priti Patel. "This simple, effective and flexible system will ensure employers can recruit the skilled workers they need, whilst also encouraging employers to train and invest in the UK's workforce. We are also opening routes for those who have an exceptional talent or show exceptional promise in the fields of engineering, science, tech or culture," she said. People will normally need to be paid at least 25,600 pounds per year unless the "going rate" for that job in the wider economy is higher. Applications are made online, and as part of this, people will need to prove their identity and provide their documents. "Once someone outside the UK has gone through all these steps, they will usually get a decision within three weeks," <keyword id="4731590" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-home-office">the Home Office</keyword> said. Applicants will need to have enough money to cover the application fee will range between 610 pounds to 1,408 pounds, plus a healthcare surcharge (usually 624 pounds per year) and be able to support themselves (usually by having at least 1,270 pounds available). The Skilled Worker visa lasts for up to five years before it needs to be extended. Alongside the work visa, a number of other routes are also now open for applications, including Global Talent Visa, for people who can show they have exceptional talent or exceptional promise in the fields of science, engineering, humanities, medicine, digital technology or arts and culture. <keyword id="10362070" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="an-innovator-visa">An Innovator Visa</keyword> will be open to those seeking to establish a business in the UK based on an innovative, viable and scalable business idea, a start-up visa for someone seeking to establish a business in the UK for the first time, and an Intra-company <keyword id="10361837" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="transfer-visa">Transfer Visa</keyword> for established workers who are being transferred by the business they work for to do a "skilled role" in the UK. <keyword id="10362069" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-student-route-and-child-student-route">The Student Route and Child Student Route</keyword> under the new system opened earlier, in October, to eligible international students for the next academic year. The Home Office said its new system will encourage employers to focus on training and investing in the UK workforce, driving productivity and improving opportunities for individuals, especially those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Indian industry and students' groups had broadly welcomed the new post-Brexit points-based regime unveiled by Patel earlier this year as a means to attract the "brightest and the best" from around the world. Under the system, workers from the EU will be at par with those from outside the economic bloc once its free movement of people rules stop applying to the UK at the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31.
