When the dollar weakens, the same amount of any commodity costs more in terms of dollars. Therefore, prices increase. And, the stocks of metal companies are mirroring that optimism. Nifty Metal is the top gainer among sectoral index with 2.6% gains. One is that metals stocks are always linked to crude oil prices and, right now, they have jumped $84 per barrel, which is probably at a recent high. Usually when crude prices go up, base commodity prices also go up, which is a good thing for metal companies,” said Deven R Choksey, managing director at KR Choksey Investment Managers told Business Insider. Currently, the crude oil prices are at $85 per barrel, trading at a 2-month high after the US oil inventory fell for the seventh straight week to levels last seen in 2018. Note that crude oil is a basic input in the production process and is used to fuel cars and planes for transportation and generate electricity for use in production of goods and services. So any change in the price of oil will impact the costs for the company and hence increase the product price. Another reason for the rise in metal prices is that companies had cut down production in recent weeks because they thought the demand wasn’t strong enough. “Anywhere across the globe particularly Europe production capacities at being pared, they (companies) are not increasing the production be it because of environment issues or covid related restrictions. Many companies have been keeping their production capacity at a lower level, which is resulting in higher prices of the product due to shortage of supply,” added Choksey. This came after the company in a separate statement informed stock-exchanges that it has plans with respect to its operations in Europe. Top stocks to watch — ICICI Bank, TCS, Wipro, Tata Steel, Pfizer, JSW Steel, AstraZeneca Pharma, and others

New Delhi, Mar 12 () Tata Sons on Thursday bought shares worth a little over Rs 356 crore in Tata Motors DVR, Tata Power, and Tata Steel through open market transactions. According to bulk deal data on the NSE, Tata Sons bought over 1.84 crore shares in Tata Motors DVR (differential voting right) at an average price of Rs 43.15, while a total of more than 1.38 crore shares were picked up in Tata Power at Rs 38.72 apiece. Besides, Tata Sons purchased over 77 lakh shares at an average price of Rs 287.44 apiece. As per the shareholding data for the December 2019 quarter, Tata Sons is a promoter for Tata Power and Tata Steel and held 31.64 per cent and 34.26 per cent stakes in the firms, respectively. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said it had expanded its strategic partnership with Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance with 26 members including Air India, Air Canada and Air China. TCS’ partnership with Star Alliance spans over 15 years and multiple geographies. Under the expanded scope of the partnership, TCS will provide predictive and real-time business analytics, improve customers’ overall experience and accelerate Star Alliance’s digital transformation journey, the company said in a statement. Tata Steel Tata Steel has acquired 4.32% additional equity in Tata Steel Minerals Canada, taking its overall indirect shareholding to 82% in the company. Shriram Transport Finance Shriram Transport Finance has approved and allotted senior secured rated, listed redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCD) of the face value of ₹10 lakh each on a private placement basis. Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) Kapil Wadhawan has yet again come up with a revised proposal for acquiring Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL). In a letter to RBI, DHFL administrator R Subramaniakumar and the Committee of Creditors (CoC), the erstwhile promoter of the bankrupt NBFC said that he would make an upfront payment of ₹9,000 crore in cash and ₹31,000 crore will be paid within a period of seven years in equal annual instalments with 8.5% per annum interest. Indian Bank Indian Bank said it had raised ₹392 crore through perpetual bonds. The bank has further raised tier 1 capital funds through a private placement of Basel III compliant AT-1 perpetual bonds aggregating to ₹392 crore, the public sector bank said in a regulatory filing.
