"There are 19 independent Tata companies in the UK, with diverse businesses. Each company continuously reviews its strategy and operations in the light of developments, and will continue to do so," read a statement from Tata Sons. 
 
"Access to markets and skilled workforce will remain important considerations," the statement added. 
 
Tata Group stocks had a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Bloodbath-in-the-Indian-markets-as-Brexit-causes-panic/articleshow/52895611.cms">hard fall </a>this morning after the Brexit results, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Bloodbath-in-the-Indian-markets-as-Brexit-causes-panic/articleshow/52895611.cms">going down </a>by up to 13%. This could be cited to the Indian conglomerate's huge exposure to UK. 
 
Specifically, Tata Motors stocks fell 12.9%, Tata Steel tanked 10.89%, TCS plummeted 4.81%, Tata Elxsi dipped 9.21%, Tata Global Beverages saw a fall of 7.26%, Tata Chemicals drubbed 5.72% and Tata Communications went down by 5.34%. 
 
Tata Sons has been operational in the UK since 1907, and out of its 19 firms having interests in the region, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Motors-profits-treble/articleshow/52519229.cms">JLR </a>and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Steel-UK-sells-its-Europe-Long-Products-business-to-Greybull/articleshow/52536515.cms">Tata Steel </a>are most globally known.

Tata Sons would focus on market access and skilled workforce after Brexit

It added that "nothing will change" overnight, neither for the company itself nor for the automotive industry. 
 
"For Jaguar Land Rover, today is just business as usual. We are a British business with a strong manufacturing base in this country, we call Britain home and we remain committed to all our manufacturing sites and investment decisions," said a JLR statement.

"We respect the views of the British people and in line with all other businesses, Jaguar Land Rover will manage the long-term impact and implications of this decision: nothing will change for us, or the automotive industry, overnight," it added. 
 
The company termed Europe as a marker of significant strategic importance, which comprises of 20% of its global sales. 
 
"We remain absolutely committed to our customers in the EU. There will be a significant negotiating period and we look forward to understanding more about that as details emerge," a spokesperson from JLR said.

Jaguar Land Rover calls Brexit day ‘business as usual’

Revenue from JLR fell by a billion dollars in the year ending March 2019 and made profit in only one of the four quarters last year. Last year, Tata Motors had to take an impairment-- write down the value-- of ₹27,838 crore due to weak sales and profitability at JLR. Things continue to look bleak even after 4,500 jobs were axed. This posed a question in front of N Chandrasekharan, the Chairman of the group's parent Tata Sons, on how long will the conglomerate continue to back the bleeding giant. "A company cannot shut the cash tap as the very nature of this business demands continuous investment in product and technology development," he <a href="https://www.indiatvnews.com/auto/cars-jaguar-land-rover-looking-for-financial-partnership-in-china-tata-chairman-n-chandrasekaran-539207" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">reportedly</a> said at the Annual General Meeting. "There are many discussions from tactical to strategic for such partnerships. Opportunities are coming and we keep evaluating them and as long as it is in the interest of Tata Motors. We will forge such partnerships so that we are able to address the capex issue," he told the shareholders. Tata Motors has already joined hands with German giant and rival BMW recently for a collaboration for manufacturing electric vehicles under the JLR banner.  Any recovery for the JLR hinges a lot on how Brexit unfolds. “Uncertainty around an orderly outcome of Brexit negotiations and the evolving global tariffs situation pose risks, in particular to TML's JLR business, which faces a significant level of production-sales mismatch due to concentration of its production base in the UK,” global ratings agency Fitch said while downgrading Tata Motors for JLR's troubles. Aside from Brexit, the US-China trade war and <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">signs</a> of a slowdown in the global economy are also compounding JLR's problems. China has traditionally been one of the biggest markets for the luxury car but sale volumes fell a sharp 29% between April and June this year, compared to the same time last year. A month back, credit rating agency Moody’s had downgraded Tata Motors. In addition to JLR related troubles, Tata Motors’ domestic business is also troubled by a general slowdown in the auto market. In June 2019, Tata Motors <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/companies/tata-motors-global-sales-dip-5-in-june-4195251.html">reported </a>a 14% decline in India sales, while a 5% drop was seen in global sales. Tata Motors is looking for partnerships to revive Jaguar Land Rover

The <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>, one of the biggest foreign investors and employers in the UK, is reviewing its strategy and operations in the island country following <keyword id="11101" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Britain">Britain</keyword> voting to withdraw from the <keyword id="6355110" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="European-Union">European Union</keyword> (EU) even as nervous investors dumped shares of its companies on the Indian bourses. 
 Shares of <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>, <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword> and TCS were down 8%, 6% and 3% respectively in a weak Indian market on Friday, making the group lose Rs 30,000 crore in a single day n market capitalization. 
 
The salt-to-software giant currently has 19 companies operating in the UK, employing over 60,000 people. 
 
 
The group's automotive unit in the UK, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), itself will take a hit of $1.47 billion in the next four years owing to a 10% levy on vehicles sold in EU nations and 4% on imports of components. 
 Tata Steel's UK unit sale too could suffer a setback with a change in government. The <keyword id="6430216" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="David-Cameron">David Cameron</keyword> government had committed to take a 25% stake in the beleaguered unit while also offering hundreds of millions of pounds as financial support. 
 The Indian conglomerate entered the UK in 1907 and since 2000, through marquee acquisitions such as Tetley, JLR, Corus (<keyword id="723143" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel-UK">Tata Steel UK</keyword>), St James Court Hotel, Brunner Mond, among others, it has built a significant presence in the British country "Each company continuously reviews its strategy and operations in the light of developments, and will continue to do so. Access to markets and to a skilled workforce will remain important considerations," said <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, the holding company of the $109 billion group. 
 
The diversified enterprise's biggest revenue generating unit in the UK is JLR, followed by TCS. 
 
UK is the second largest contributor (nearly 16%) to the revenues of the software giant, which employs more than 11,000 people. 
 
JLR, which was acquired in 2008, contributes nearly 90% to Tata Motors profits. 
 
JLR derives 20% of its sales volumes and sources 35-40% of its components from EU member nations. 
 
With the UK exiting the EU, the cost of sourcing components from the European states and selling its vehicles in the region will go up as duties and tariffs coming into play. On the flip side, analysts said 
 
JLR will be a major beneficiary as the government will provide incentives to ensure that the UK's automotive industry remains competitive. 
 
Also, the depreciation of the pound could positively benefit the company's earnings through exports. 
 
With respect to the sale of Tata Steel UK, Financial Times, quoting unnamed sources, said there will now be "recalibration" after Brexit. 
 
The UK unit exports 12% of its volume to various EU member nations "If Britain were to exit the EU, Tata Steel would no longer be able to influence some of the major regulations such as environmental controls and anti-dumping measures which impact its UK operations," Tata Steel had said prior to Brexit. 
 
The EU referendum result could also bring about changes in British Pension Scheme, negatively impacting the unit's 11,000 employees.

Tata Group stocks hardest hit by Brexit, company loses Rs 30,00 crore in a day

Cyrus Pallonji Mistry, the chairman of Indian multinational conglomerate<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-reality-of-Tata-Group-Few-companies-making-moneyothers-less-so/articleshow/50168486.cms"> Tata group</a>, has cited the "sustained start-up environment" in India as the reason behind several international and domestic investments coming in while opening up new opportunities beyond Tier I cities, and thus helping <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian economy</keyword> to become one of the fastest growing economies in the world. 
 
In the annual report 2015-16, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Sons-work-culture-meeting/articleshow/52634547.cms">Mistry </a>talked to shareholders of <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>, saying that the start-up scene in the country is a "positive sign" of an economy that is more mature and responsible.

"There is a greater thoughtfulness towards investing in new or emerging companies, with a greater attention to the right business model." Mistry said while speaking of continued global volatility across markets during fiscal 2016. He added that the fall in oil prices and commodities has had different effects on different companies and countries.

While on one hand, the China slowdown has impacted the global economy, one can’t dent that India's robust GDP has also emerged as a talking point. 
 
However, he didn’t complete what he had to say before adding some words of caution. He said that continued delay in some tax reforms still poses an "operational bottleneck" to streamlined movement of goods and services. He also called it as one of the "key challenges." 
 
"The shadow of NPAs continues to haunt the Indian financial sector even as it is all set to grow, with new financial institutions," he added. 
 
Talking of Tata Motors' performance, he said that while the last year was "mixed," strong <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jaguar-Land-Rover-calls-Brexit-day-business-as-usual/articleshow/52902045.cms">Jaguar Land Rover </a>strong growth, despite several challenges, has made the tables turn. 
 
He added that this fiscal would be a milestone for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Indias-diesel-ban-has-forced-JLR-to-come-up-with-Discovery-Sports-petrol-variant/articleshow/52832948.cms">JLR</a>’s growth and transformation. 
 
In a separate letter, he aimed of breaking into the top three global commercial vehicle makers and local passenger vehicle market by FY19, for which the company would have to regain lost market share and create an agile and profitable business model.

Talking of the performance of Tata Motors, its commercial vehicle market share has dropped from 60% in FY12 to 46.4% at end of FY16, with commercial vehicles volumes falling from 5.3 lakh units in FY12 to 3.27 lakh units in FY16. On the other hand, passenger vehicle sales have dropped from 3.33 lakh units to 1.27 lakh units at the end of FY16.

Jaguar Land Rover is dragging Tata Motors along in its downward spiral

 The estimate from Goldman Sachs is slightly better but nothing to really cheer about. “We raise our volume forecasts for JLR by 1% and 3% for FY20 and FY21 respectively as we factor in better volume outlook for the Defender — we estimate 50k units in FY21 vs. the previous high of c.22k units in FY16,” a recent report from the global investment bank said. The impact of Brexit on JLR is getting more pronounced The people of the UK voted in favour of exiting the European Union in June 2016, and since then the fortunes of JLR have been declining faster every year. <ul><li>According to reports, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> was planning to sell a minority stake in <keyword id="6354362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaguar-Land-Rover">Jaguar Land Rover</keyword>. </li><li>JLR had reported a massive loss of $3.4 billion in December. </li><li>Stocks of <keyword id="8555" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata">Tata</keyword> Motors had fallen by 17% in early February. </li></ul>Tata Motors has denied reports that it is exploring a minority stake sale in its British subsidiaries <keyword id="42034" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaguar">Jaguar</keyword> and <keyword id="44719" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Land-Rover">Land Rover</keyword>. According to an <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">ET report</a>, the auto company is reportedly also looking at a joint venture partnership. “There is no truth to the rumours that the company is looking to divest its stake in JLR,” Tata Motors told Business Insider, declining to comment further on “market speculation.” For the quarter ending December 31, Tata Sons’ Jaguar Land Rover <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwinton/2019/02/07/jaguar-land-rover-hit-by-big-loss/#2852de8aa0a8">saw </a>a loss of $3.4 billion following a big write-down. It was also in cost cutting mode, and reportedly axed 4,500 jobs late last year. The <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">ET report</a> also states that Brexit, US-China trade war and signs of a slowdown in the global economy could be the reasons for the losses incurred by JLR. China, which has traditionally been one of the biggest markets for the luxury car. The division saw a drop in sales volume by 47% which also affected the company deeply. In early February, its record losses also resulted in Tata Motors stock <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tata-motors-stock-price-falls-after-record-loss-due-to-jlr-troubles-in-china-and-uk/articleshow/67894956.cms">falling</a> by 17% which also resulted in analysts cutting its earnings estimate by 35%. Tata Motors had acquired the Jaguar Land Rover businesses from Ford Motor Company in 2008 for a net consideration of US $2.3 billion in an all-cash transaction.
