The auto major has cut the price of Nexon.ev by up to Rs 1.2 lakh and now the model price starts at Rs 14.49 lakh. Similarly, the company has reduced the prices of Tiago.ev by up to Rs 70,000 with the base model now starting at Rs 7.99 lakh, Tata Motors said in a statement. Introductory prices of the recently-launched <keyword id="20078457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punch-ev" source="keywords">Punch.ev</keyword> remain unchanged as they already factor in reduction in battery cost in the foreseeable future, it added. "Battery costs constitute a substantial part of the overall cost of an EV. "With battery cell prices having softened in the recent past and considering their potential reduction in the foreseeable future, we have chosen to proactively pass on the resulting benefits directly to customers," <keyword id="20078455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-passenger-electric-mobility" source="keywords">Tata Passenger Electric Mobility</keyword> (TPEM) Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Srivatsa said. While EVs have grown rapidly over the last few years, the company's mission is to accelerate the mainstream adoption of EVs by making them more accessible nationwide, he added. EVs have shown a strong growth momentum and are substantially outperforming the overall passenger vehicle industry growth, Tata Motors said. In 2023, the EV segment grew by over 90 per cent against the 8 per cent growth recorded by the PV industry, it said. This growth momentum has continued in 2024 as well with EV sales registering a 100 per cent year-on-year growth in January 2024. TPEM with over 70 per cent market share is the leader in this fast-growing segment, the automaker stated. Tata Motors cuts EV prices by up to ₹1.2 lakh as battery cost dips

<keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> plans to commence production of electric vehicles at the Sanand plant, acquired from Ford India, from April this year, as per a top company official. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a unit of Tata Motors, acquired the facility from Ford India for Rs 725.7 crore in January last year. "We are planning to commence electric vehicle production at Sanand with <keyword id="20190169" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexon" source="keywords">Nexon</keyword> EV from April," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh <keyword id="19912128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandra" source="keywords">Chandra</keyword> told PTI. The company has already commenced production of internal combustion engine-powered versions of the Nexon at the manufacturing plant with an installed capacity of 3 lakh units per annum. It can be further scaled up to 4.2 lakh units per annum. Chandra said the company is also looking to produce upcoming models at the facility. When asked about the company's product pipeline, he said that <keyword id="20290613" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="curvv-ev" source="keywords">Curvv EV</keyword> would be introduced around the second or third quarter of this calendar year. "We are also hoping that by the fag-end of this year, we should also be able to introduce Harrier EV and internal combustion engine (ICE) version of Curvv," Chandra said. On sales outlook for the next fiscal, he noted that the passenger vehicle industry is expected to grow by 5 per cent. "We have few launches planned, so will be targeting to grow better than the industry," Chandra stated. On the Budget wishlist, he stated that extending FAME benefits to personal electric cars would help in accelerating the growth of electrification in the country. Chandra noted that an increase in sales of electric cars was witnessed in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat when they offered incentives to the buyers. "Also, there is a problem of inverted duty structure in EVs that is also something that we have been asking," he noted. About talks on giving some concessions to a US-based EV major, Chandra said: "Our position is very simple that we are not worried about any specific competitor. Any player who is ready to participate in the EV space with upfront investment in localisation or charging infra development is welcome". He further said: "We are not afraid of the competition...we are effectively dealing with the competition, all we seek is a level playing field". Tata Motors to commence EV production at Sanand plant from April

Tata Motors on Friday launched the CNG variant of its micro SUV <keyword id="5700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punch" source="Orion">Punch</keyword> priced between Rs 7.1 lakh and Rs 9.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The <keyword id="16263040" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punch-icng" source="Orion">Punch iCNG</keyword> is equipped with the company's proprietary twin-cylinder technology with enhanced safety features like a micro-switch to keep the car switched off at the time of refuelling and thermal incident protection that cuts off CNG supply to the engine and releases gas into the atmosphere, Tata Motors said in a statement. It is also equipped with other features such as voice assisted electric sunroof, automatic projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, 7-inch infotainment system by Harman that supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity, rain sensing wipers and height adjustable driver seat. The company also said it has also introduced the twin-cylinder technology on its Tiago and Tigor models. The Tiago iCNG is priced between Rs 6.55 lakh and Rs 8.1 lakh, while the Tigor iCNG comes at a price range of Rs 7.8 lakh to Rs 8.95 lakh. Tata Motors launches Punch iCNG, price starts at ₹7.1 lakh

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Fisker has backtracked on telling owners of its EVs to pay for recall repairs.</li><li>The bankrupt EV firm previously said customers would have to cover the "labor costs" of two outstanding recalls themselves.</li></ul>Owners of Fisker Ocean EVs will no longer have to pay for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fisker-ev-ocean-owners-pay-for-recall-repairs-bankruptcy-2024-9">recall repairs</a>.The bankrupt auto company has changed a post on its website to say it will cover the cost of repairs for two outstanding recalls, after initially saying owners of its Ocean EV would have to pay for "labor costs" themselves.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), automakers are <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/mvdefectsandrecalls_808795.pdf">legally required</a> to provide safety recall repairs free of charge for vehicles less than 15 years old. A spokesperson for the NHTSA told Business Insider that the agency "is working to ensure vehicle owners receive recall remedies without charge, as required by federal law."<h2 id="1f6cab01-3167-4ce2-9588-d4a632911209">An expensive 'lawn ornament'</h2>BI previously reported that some customers who had paid as much as $70,000 for their Oceans had been left with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fisker-owners-describe-chaos-to-keep-cars-running-after-bankruptcy-2024-7">undrivable and unfixable vehicles</a> following Fisker's bankruptcy in June.One owner told BI that a battery problem had left his Ocean unusable."It's literally a lawn ornament right now," he said.The Fisker Ocean <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2023/FISKER/OCEAN#recalls">currently has five outstanding recalls</a>, with two — concerning the car's door handles and its water pump — requiring physical inspection and repairs.In a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.fiskerinc.com/recalls?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR36gEwyTRnTBwX0oyZgOlM_tJdjixr1dLQNDIWwbskuI95PEZvtG22MNtU_aem_MHVp_9xGAO3goYBNqViD2Q">recall FAQ</a> previously posted to Fisker's website, the bankrupt EV firm said that due to its "current financial situation," it could only <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fisker-ev-ocean-owners-pay-for-recall-repairs-bankruptcy-2024-9">cover the cost of the necessary parts for those recalls</a>, not the repairs themselves.The recall FAQ also stated that any "labor costs" associated with repairs would need to be covered by vehicle owners. Fisker apologized for "any inconvenience this may cause."However, by early Wednesday, the recall FAQ had been updated to state that Fisker would "provide the necessary parts (including the labor) at no cost" to Ocean owners.The reversal will come as a relief for long-suffering Fisker Ocean owners, some of whom previously told BI they had <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fisker-owners-describe-chaos-to-keep-cars-running-after-bankruptcy-2024-7">struggled to contact the company</a> or find repair shops that could fix their vehicles.Fisker owner Steven Hammer told BI the prospect of having to pay for recall repairs was "positively infuriating.""It's just one more punch to the gut," said the Colorado resident, who previously had to pay to transport his Ocean to a dealership in another state to fix a broken roof panel after being unable to reach anyone at Fisker."There's a level of cost cutting and incompetence that's hard to bear. We paid BMW prices and got Yugo quality," Hammer added, referring to the Yugoslavian hatchback that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/10/business/yugo-cars.html">became notorious for its unreliability</a> when it was released in the US in the 1980s.In the recall FAQ, Fisker said it would address the other three recalls on the Ocean with a software update.The company warned customers to drive their vehicles "with caution" until the recalls have been addressed.Fisker is the second failed auto company founded by famed former Tesla designer Henrik Fisker. The Mumbai-based auto major on Monday launched a midsize SUV coupe <keyword id="20400827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curvv" source="keywords">Curvv</keyword> with petrol and diesel powertrains with a price starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. The company has already unveiled the electric version of the model in August. The model would be competing with the likes of <keyword id="2883300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Creta" source="Orion">Hyundai Creta</keyword>, <keyword id="7720018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Seltos" source="Orion">Kia Seltos</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, among others. "Curvv is being positioned in the fast-growing, mid-size SUV segment, which is roughly 16% of the whole industry (passenger vehicle) size. If translated into numbers, it would be like 7 lakh units a year," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle MD Shailesh Chandra told PTI in an interaction. The segment is very competitive with various brands having a product already in the market, he noted. Therefore, if one enters this segment so late, then it will have to think of coming up with a slightly differentiated approach, Chandra said. "And that was the thinking behind Curvv, which comes with an SUV coupe body style. We saw that this was gaining popularity globally, especially in the premium or luxury segment," he added. Further, he said: "So we thought, why don't we bring this into the crowded segment as a fresh, refreshing kind of a body style." When asked about sales expectations from the model, Chandra said: "We have come with this model, with the best in class features. It's a differentiated product in this and therefore we think it is going to perform well." He noted that Tata Motors currently has a market share of around 19% in the SUV segment and expects the new model to help it grow further. "We'll gain from where we are. The market leader in SUVs would be, say, 21-22 %, so it's a crowded segment. It's not that one player is holding the roost here. "All the top 3-4 players in SUVs are around the same market share figure," Chandra said. He noted that the company is also looking to enhance its dealer network by around 10-15 % in the next one year. "We have a very aggressive plan of expanding dealerships. We will need to have an enhanced network. We will have to make them bigger, also in size. And therefore, for EVs, we have started separation of the outlets. So there will be expansion in touchpoints, not only on the sales side, but big time on the service side as well," Chandra said. <keyword id="20400828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-curvv" source="keywords">Tata Curvv</keyword> comes with two petrol and a diesel engine option. "The introduction of the Curvv further enhances our SUV portfolio as a comprehensive mid-SUV product with multiple powertrains, several first-in-segment features, a brand new capable architecture - ATLAS and Level 2 ADAS," Chandra said. Besides Curvv, Tata Motors sells models like Punch, Nexon, Harrier and Safari in the domestic market.
