As part of the MoU inked between the parties, 250 new fast-charging stations for electric commercial vehicles would be set up across the country. Strategically located in and around over 50 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Kochi, among others, these new charging stations will significantly increase the existing network of 540 commercial vehicle charging points, Tata Motors said in a statement. Basis its understanding of the commercial EV movement, the commercial vehicle major will recommend optimal locations and nearest dealerships for setting up the fast-charging stations, the company said. While Delta Electronics will supply the necessary hardware, Thunderplus Solutions will install and operate them, it added. E-commerce companies, parcel and courier service providers, among other industries, are increasing the adoption of commercial EVs for last-mile deliveries. "Expanding the available charging infrastructure on high-use routes will encourage more customers to opt for electric commercial vehicles and improve vehicle uptime, resulting in higher revenues and better profitability, while contributing towards a cleaner, greener environment," Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles Vice President and Business Head -- SCV &amp; PU -- Vinay Pathak said. Currently, Tata Motors sells Ace EVs to cater to various last-mile delivery requirements. The model is supported by over 150 electric vehicle service centres across the country. Tata Motors ties up with two firms to expand charging infra for electric CVs

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a unit of Tata Motors, acquired the facility from Ford India for Rs 725.7 crore in January last year. "We are planning to commence electric vehicle production at Sanand with <keyword id="20190169" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexon" source="keywords">Nexon</keyword> EV from April," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh <keyword id="19912128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandra" source="keywords">Chandra</keyword> told PTI. The company has already commenced production of internal combustion engine-powered versions of the Nexon at the manufacturing plant with an installed capacity of 3 lakh units per annum. It can be further scaled up to 4.2 lakh units per annum. Chandra said the company is also looking to produce upcoming models at the facility. When asked about the company's product pipeline, he said that <keyword id="20290613" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="curvv-ev" source="keywords">Curvv EV</keyword> would be introduced around the second or third quarter of this calendar year. "We are also hoping that by the fag-end of this year, we should also be able to introduce Harrier EV and internal combustion engine (ICE) version of Curvv," Chandra said. On sales outlook for the next fiscal, he noted that the passenger vehicle industry is expected to grow by 5 per cent. "We have few launches planned, so will be targeting to grow better than the industry," Chandra stated. On the Budget wishlist, he stated that extending FAME benefits to personal electric cars would help in accelerating the growth of electrification in the country. Chandra noted that an increase in sales of electric cars was witnessed in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat when they offered incentives to the buyers. "Also, there is a problem of inverted duty structure in EVs that is also something that we have been asking," he noted. About talks on giving some concessions to a US-based EV major, Chandra said: "Our position is very simple that we are not worried about any specific competitor. Any player who is ready to participate in the EV space with upfront investment in localisation or charging infra development is welcome". He further said: "We are not afraid of the competition...we are effectively dealing with the competition, all we seek is a level playing field". Tata Motors to commence EV production at Sanand plant from April

The Rs 10,900 crore scheme will support 2,479,000 electric 2-wheelers, 316,000 electric 3-wheelers and 14,028 electric buses, along with 88,500 <keyword id="186291" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ev" source="Orion">EV</keyword> charging sites. The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday, cleared the 'PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM e-DRIVE) Scheme,' with a total outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years. It includes Rs 3,679 crore in subsidies and demand incentives for e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and other emerging electric vehicles. It is expected to support the deployment of 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses, providing a significant push to India's EV ecosystem. A critical aspect of the scheme is the introduction of e-vouchers for EV buyers. At the time of purchase, an Aadhaar-authenticated e-voucher will be generated, which will enable buyers to avail of demand incentives. Additionally, the scheme allocates Rs 500 crore for the deployment of e-ambulances, marking a new initiative to integrate electric vehicles into essential public services. Another Rs 4,391 crore has been earmarked for the procurement of 14,028 e-buses, with a demand aggregation process led by CESL in nine major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Intercity and interstate e-buses will also be supported in consultation with states. Furthermore, Rs 500 crore has been set aside to incentivize the adoption of e-trucks, a critical move given that trucks are one of the largest contributors to air pollution. The scheme encourages those with a scrapping certificate from <keyword id="19897457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-road-transport" source="keywords">Ministry of Road Transport</keyword> and Highways-approved (MoRTH) vehicle scrapping centres to participate in this transition. With an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore, the scheme will support the installation of 22,100 fast chargers for four-wheelers, 1,800 fast chargers for e-buses, and 48,400 fast chargers for two- and three-wheelers. These chargers will be installed in cities with high EV penetration and along selected highways, making long-distance EV travel more viable.

Automobile industry hails PM e-DRIVE scheme to promote EVs

The Mumbai-based auto major on Monday launched a midsize SUV coupe <keyword id="20400827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curvv" source="keywords">Curvv</keyword> with petrol and diesel powertrains with a price starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. The company has already unveiled the electric version of the model in August. The model would be competing with the likes of <keyword id="2883300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Creta" source="Orion">Hyundai Creta</keyword>, <keyword id="7720018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Seltos" source="Orion">Kia Seltos</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, among others. "Curvv is being positioned in the fast-growing, mid-size SUV segment, which is roughly 16% of the whole industry (passenger vehicle) size. If translated into numbers, it would be like 7 lakh units a year," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle MD Shailesh Chandra told PTI in an interaction. The segment is very competitive with various brands having a product already in the market, he noted. Therefore, if one enters this segment so late, then it will have to think of coming up with a slightly differentiated approach, Chandra said. "And that was the thinking behind Curvv, which comes with an SUV coupe body style. We saw that this was gaining popularity globally, especially in the premium or luxury segment," he added. Further, he said: "So we thought, why don't we bring this into the crowded segment as a fresh, refreshing kind of a body style." When asked about sales expectations from the model, Chandra said: "We have come with this model, with the best in class features. It's a differentiated product in this and therefore we think it is going to perform well." He noted that Tata Motors currently has a market share of around 19% in the SUV segment and expects the new model to help it grow further. "We'll gain from where we are. The market leader in SUVs would be, say, 21-22 %, so it's a crowded segment. It's not that one player is holding the roost here. "All the top 3-4 players in SUVs are around the same market share figure," Chandra said. He noted that the company is also looking to enhance its dealer network by around 10-15 % in the next one year. "We have a very aggressive plan of expanding dealerships. We will need to have an enhanced network. We will have to make them bigger, also in size. And therefore, for EVs, we have started separation of the outlets. So there will be expansion in touchpoints, not only on the sales side, but big time on the service side as well," Chandra said. <keyword id="20400828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-curvv" source="keywords">Tata Curvv</keyword> comes with two petrol and a diesel engine option. "The introduction of the Curvv further enhances our SUV portfolio as a comprehensive mid-SUV product with multiple powertrains, several first-in-segment features, a brand new capable architecture - ATLAS and Level 2 ADAS," Chandra said. Besides Curvv, Tata Motors sells models like Punch, Nexon, Harrier and Safari in the domestic market.

Tata Motors eyes gains in SUV space as it drives in its Curvv

New Delhi, <keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> expects the industry sales growth of electric vehicles in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> to moderate to 40-45 per cent this year with the base becoming bigger, a top company official said on Wednesday. The company, which launched Punch.ev on Wednesday, plans to introduce four more EV models this year, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd &amp; Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said. It is expecting to grow faster than the industry EV growth rate, he added. "Two years back, EVs were growing on a very low base. In the last calendar year, it had a growth of nearly 100 per cent but now the base is getting bigger. By the end of this financial year, it will be around 90,000 to 1 lakh. On this high base, I think the growth (industry) would moderate to about 40 per cent to 45 per cent," Chandra said. As for Tata Motors, he said with five EV products lined up for launch, the company expects to beat the industry growth rate. When asked about EV penetration in the overall sales of the company, he said, "Currently we are between 12 to 15 per cent. Fortunately, we are also growing in <keyword id="20088520" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ice" source="keywords">ICE</keyword> (<keyword id="20225695" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="internal-combustion-engine" source="keywords">Internal Combustion Engine</keyword>). So, the denominator keeps changing." In 2023, Tata Motors sold a total of 69,153 units of EVs. Further, he said, "In the next three years, we have taken a target of achieving 25 per cent of total sales with all the products that we are going to launch. 2024 should be around 15-17 per cent." Chandra said apart from Punch.ev, Tata Motors will launch the Curvv, Harrier EV, <keyword id="20225694" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sierra" source="keywords">Sierra</keyword> and Altroz EV this year, most of which are expected in the second half. Punch.ev has been launched with an introductory price ranging from Rs 10.99 lakh-14.49 lakh. It comes with two battery pack options - 25 kWh, offering a range of 315 km, and a 35 kWh option, which offers a range of 421 km on a single charge.

Tata Motors expects industry EV sales growth in India to moderate to 40-45% this year

In an interaction with PTI, Tata Motors Managing Director - Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicles Shailesh <keyword id="796" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chandra" source="Orion">Chandra</keyword> said the price revision would also offset the impact of commodity prices, which have remained high for the most part of the year. "The regulatory change will have its impact on the cost. Even the real impact of softening of commodity prices is only going to come from next quarter and we still have the residual impact of the commodity escalation that we have seen during the year," Chandra said. He noted that even the battery prices have gone up and the same has not been passed on to the market. "So we are evaluating a price increase basis some of the residual effect that is left as far as the commodity prices are concerned. Battery prices and new regulations have also impacted the EV side," Chandra said. Besides, there is a cost involved in making the model range transition to conform to new emission norms, he added. "We are exploring potential price increase next month because of these factors for both ICE and EVs," Chandra said. Tata Motors sells a range of models like <keyword id="5700" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="punch" source="Orion">Punch</keyword>, Nexon, Harrier, and <keyword id="62620" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="safari" source="Orion">Safari</keyword> in the domestic market. It leads the electric vehicle segment with products like Tiago EV and Nexon EV. From April 1, 2023, vehicles will need to have an on-board self-diagnostic device to monitor the real-time driving emission levels. The device will constantly monitor key parts for meeting emission standards such as the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors, to keep a close watch on emissions. In a scenario wherein the emissions exceed the parameters, the device will indicate through warning lights that the vehicle should be submitted for service. Additionally, in order to control the level of fuel burnt, the vehicles will also carry programmed fuel injectors, which would control the timing and amount of fuel injected into the petrol engine. Even the semiconductors used by the vehicle will have to be upgraded to monitor throttle, crankshaft positions, air intake pressure, the temperature of the engine, and the contents of the emissions from the exhaust (particulate matter, nitrogen oxide, CO2, Sulphur), etc. Last week, Maruti Suzuki also announced to increase vehicle prices from January. Tata Motors mulling price hike for passenger vehicles from next month

<keyword id="7583348" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PURE-EV" source="Orion">PURE EV</keyword> has launched new electric scooter -- <keyword id="19041898" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ePluto-7G-MAX" source="Orion">ePluto 7G MAX</keyword> with an ultra-long range of 201 km per charge and with MAX boasts features such as HillStart Assist, DownHill Assist, Coasting Regen, Reverse Mode, Smart AI for Battery Longevity etc. Launched at a price of Rs 1,14,999 (ex-Showroom price), the scooter comes available infour colours -- matte black, red, grey and white, which is now open for booking across India, with deliveries beginning from the upcoming festive season. "The model is targeted towards consumers driving around 100 km per day and do not want to go through the hassle of frequent charging. The timing of the launch will coincide with the upcoming festive season and gives our patrons a very competitive offering with state-of-the-art features," said <keyword id="12156913" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rohit-vadera" source="Orion">Rohit Vadera</keyword>, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer. The model comes with an AIS-156 certified 3.5 KWH heavy-duty battery with smart BMS, and Bluetooth connectivity. The powertrain has a peak power of 2.4 KW, a CAN-based charger and offers three different driving modes. "MAX is equipped with AI-enabled power discharge accounting for the State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) of the battery, which significantly improves the overall battery life cycle by 50 per cent. The model also has intelligent throttle response based on the ride terrain, smart sensors to prevent rollback during incline and controlled descent during declines," Vadera said. ePluto 7G MAX is deployed with seven different microcontrollers and numerous sensors, which offer more powerful processing compared to a smartphone, along with the facility of going through any future OTA firmware updates. Highlighting the improvements in powertrain efficiency, Vadera further added that "the new drive train has industry-leading efficiency of over 92 per cent. The braking experience is significantly improved in terms of braking distance, time to stop, wheel rotating speed effort and the braking force, leading to 30 per cent life cycle enhancement of front and rear brakes". The scooter is also equipped with smart regen capabilities with an EAC-Braking System, including coating regen to enhance range and safety. MAX has reverse mode assist and parking assist features to auto-push the vehicle at a steady speed of 5 kmph. "We are delighted to offer a standard battery warranty of 60,000 kms and an extended warranty of 70,000 kms," Vadera mentioned. The company is also aggressively expanding its dealer network across all the leading cities and towns, and targeting more than 300 touch points by the end of FY24. PURE EV launches ePluto 7G MAX with 201 km range

<ul><li><keyword id="9349591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="blusmart" source="Orion">BluSmart</keyword> is poised to double its fleet by the end of the year and aims to have over 1,00,000 EVs on its platform by 2025.</li><li>Back in 20221, <keyword id="15125737" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-BP-and-BluSmart" source="Orion">Jio-BP and BluSmart</keyword> joined hands to set up EV charging stations in India.</li><li>BluSmart has the largest fleet of electric cabs and the largest network of EV fast charging stations across Delhi NCR, according to the company.</li></ul>As India rides on the EV bandwagon with the government promoting several use cases, BluSmart is poised to double its fleet by the end of the year and aims to have over 1,00,000 EVs on its platform by 2025. Rishabh Sood, CTO, BluSmart, told IANS that from a charging infrastructure perspective, both state and central government responses have been great and have floated many projects on a PPP basis. With the ever-growing customer base, Sood added, it is imperative to have BluSmart's services up and running with zero downtime and for this, the startup relies on various AWS services to build a strong foundation. Here are the excerpts from an interview: Q: What is BluSmart's USP? How do you differentiate yourself from other players in the <keyword id="6744459" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EV-fleet" source="Orion">EV fleet</keyword> landscape? A: BluSmart is the only ride hailing service in the country that ensures zero emission, zero surge and zero ride denials to its customers and zero financial investment from its driver partners. We believe the source of our sustainable competitive advantage is that we have built multiple small MOATs around various parts of the business, which are collectively keeping us ahead of the curve. On the customer end, by solving for the core issue of hassles of ride booking, cancellations, surge and unclean cars we have been able to build a very loyal customer base. This hassle free experience of zero surge, zero cancellation and clean cars with courteous drivers being achieved every day repeatedly is starting to become a habit. On the driver end, by solving for the core issue of driver partners' inability to buy, own and maintain assets, we have been able to build loyalties on the drier partner side, which is immensely important since they are the brand custodians on the roads and are the ones who uphold the brand promise every time. On the technology side, by solving for the core issue of "fuel being a constraint" with EVs as against ICE powered vehicles where the ride-hails tech historically has not been required to worry about the fuel inside the car. Building a technology backend which is born electric and takes a full stack approach towards solving for ride matching at scale where no human is required to take decisions and the technology optimally guides the drivers right from picking up customers to reaching the nearest EV charging stations when running out of charge. On the partner ecosystem side, by solving for the core issue of having partners who have a purpose and a vision that feeds into each other's ambitions. Having partners like BP Ventures who come with the right global experience around energy and team building. Having partners like JioBP, which is a JV between Reliance and BP in India and having the backing of the largest enterprise in India in building more EV charging infra. Having partners like Tata Motors, who have decades of experience in automobiles and have taken the right stand when it comes to EVs and is able to support the growth ambitions of BluSmart. Q: For India to achieve its vision of reducing emission intensity by 45 per cent by 2030 and reach the net-zero target by 2070, EV would have to go mainstream. What are some of the biggest roadblocks you see today in India, be it in the manufacturing, EV financing, regulatory and policy landscape? A: The country has faced supply and delivery challenges in the past in getting EVs from leading OEMs around the country due to the semiconductor chip crisis in the past 3 years. Since, the supply chain and semiconductor issues have now started to relax, we are seeing an accelerated movement towards vehicle production and delivery. We believe that the manufacturing of EVs needs to be scaled up massively to support the increased adoption of EVs which in turn will lead to economies of scale. Also entry of established players into the EV industry will provide a variety of options to the common man. From a charging infrastructure perspective, both state and central government response have been great and have floated many projects on a PPP basis. We have also partnered up with giants such as Jio BP to help our expansion plans and create more charging infrastructure. Ramping up of charging infrastructure will play a key role in achieving net zero emission. Q: Tell us about the scale of your operations/size of EV fleet in India and your projected growth trajectory over the next 5 years? A: BluSmart currently operates an electric fleet of 2,200+ EVs on its platform. BluSmart Mobility is the most preferred mode of public transportation across Delhi NCR having completed 2.5 million+ all electric trips, covering over 86 million+ clean kms with over 900,000+ app downloads with an app rating of 4.9 out of 5.0 in the last year. It has the largest fleet of electric cabs and the largest network of EV fast charging stations across Delhi NCR. On September 26, 2022, BluSmart expanded geographically and started its operations in Bengaluru as its second city. BluSmart is poised to double its fleet by the end of the year and aims to have over 1,00,000 EVs on our platform by 2025. Q: What has AWS and cloud technology enabled you to do better? A: AWS is our trusted cloud partner for its feature rich and highly performant ecosystem of diversified services. With the ever growing customer base, it is imperative to have BluSmart's services up and running with zero downtime and this is where Amazon CloudWatch helps to preemptively learn metrics breach and remediate the same automatically. BluSmart uses Amazon Aurora, which is designed for exceptionally high performance and availability at a global scale with full MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility. We adopted Aurora because it gives us the ability to manage our data at a large scale without having to deal with maintenance and optimizations at our end. At BluSmart every decision we make is driven by data hence we wanted a petabyte-scale data warehouse service that makes it simple and cost-effective to efficiently analyze data using existing business intelligence tools therefore we decided to go with Amazon Redshift as it provides constant monitoring of operations, logs, auditing, and traceability. We discovered key improvements in cost and performance for improving speed to market and operational efficiency. During our peak demand periods, we rely on AWS Autoscaling to handle high surge in requests by scaling containers and Database read replicas to provide seamless and elated customer experience. We at BluSmart are focused on the security of our data, infrastructure and resources and we rely on various AWS security services to build a strong foundation. We will continue to explore further on AWS in the future, adding new features and capabilities along the way. Q. In terms of business outcomes, what benefits have you experienced because of running on AWS? Please provide metrics where applicable: A: We have been able to bring efficiency in handling the demand and process performance by reducing the effort of self managing and monitoring the infrastructure. Without having to spend time on infrastructure engineering, developers are able to focus on the core product development which helps us reach the market faster. Usage of autoscaling to handle the load of peak and non peak demands efficiently by dynamic scaling up and scaling down of cloud infra on an intraday basis provided a significant cost advantage over maintaining a dedicated infra for peak loads. Further, periodic snapshots, data replication and disaster recovery strategy helps us mitigate data and infrastructure risks.
