Two Tata group firms -- Tata Global Beverages Limited (TGBL) and <keyword id="130104" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Chemicals-Limited">Tata Chemicals Limited</keyword> (TCL) on Monday announced that the scheme of arrangement between them regarding the Consumer Products Business of TCL is now "operational" effective from February 7, 2020. "Following this, TGBL has been renamed '<keyword id="8759775" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consumer-products-limited">Tata Consumer Products Limited</keyword>'," the statement said. Formation of Tata Consumer Products Limited (TCPL) "marks a new strategic direction, an accelerated expansion into India's FMCG market" said TGBL adding that it would "meet evolving consumer needs across the food and beverages spectrum". TCL would have iconic brands, including Tata Tea and Tata Salt, reaching over 200 million households. "This deep distribution architecture will also be supported by the Tata Group's brand building prowess. The company intends to further build on the strong platform provided by its market leading positions in tea and salt by investing in R&amp;D, branding, marketing, manufacturing and distribution to create a stronger and larger food and beverage platform," it added. Tatas to bring Starbucks, tea and salt under one roof - to create a mega FMCG company

Its revenues grew by 4% to ₹1,834 crore. However, thankfully because of the chai and coffee lovers, the company – which is the world’s second largest manufacturer and distributor of tea – saw no impact of economic slowdown on sales. “Our flagship brands in India recorded good growth and we will continue to focus on white space opportunities in the Indian market,” said Ajoy Misra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Global Beverages. According to the company, the India tea business clocked a growth of 8% in volume and value terms. Meanwhile, Tata Starbucks’ sales grew 26% for the quarter. Its international sales are growing too. The total revenue from Tata Coffee and <keyword id="13486" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vietnam">Vietnam</keyword> unit saw an 18% growth along with a volume growth from tea and coffee in the UK, US and Canada. “Our international markets reflected volume growth in both tea and coffee. We will continue to strengthen our innovation agenda while further strengthening our core brands. Our JVs continue to perform well and have posted good revenue growth in the quarter,” said Misra.

Starbucks first came to India in partnership with Tata Global Beverages through a 50/50 joint venture back in 2012. Their roasting and sourcing was exclusively done with <keyword id="2661474" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Coffee-Limited">Tata Coffee LImited</keyword>. Starbucks has some 300,000 suppliers in its supply chain and a vertical integration model in place, that ensures quality maintenance as well as ethical practices. Hitting the global standard Tata Coffee Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Global Beverages, has a microlot model that helps break the traditional notion that Indian coffee doesn’t match up to Latin American blends. Its Indian Estates Blend, cultivated in the Nullore and Yemmigoondi estates of Karnataka, is harvested in the same manner to match global standards. Since the soil conditions and climate issues in India aren’t the best for coffee, they’ve taken their 8,000 hectare plantation and divided it into 800 microblocks. That’s 10 hectares per block. This enables the company to micromanage each block as per specific climate and soil parameters. Thus, farmers can keep track of each variable individually. Aside from going the Starbucks way, Tata Coffee Limited also has plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Vietnam. This will be the company’s first international unit and is expected to be operational by January next year.

Starbucks may soon serve use Tata’s Indian coffee in its global outlets

New Delhi, May 18 () Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) on Monday said it will acquire the stake of PeopsiCo in their joint venture NourishCo Beverages. The size of the deal was not disclosed by the company. The move is an effort by the Tata Group firm to widen its portfolio in the growing food and beverages space, TCPL said in a statement. NourishCo, a 50:50 joint venture of TCPL and PepsiCo, operates in the healthy hydration space and has brands like Himalayan mineral water, Tata Gluco Plus and Tata Water Plus."This move is consistent with Tata Consumer's focus on wideningits portfolio in the food and beverages space. These brands have been crafting their growth models which are now ready for deployment on a wider scale," TCPL said in a statement. NourishCo was formed in 2010 as a joint venture between Tata Global Beverages (now TCPL) and PepsiCo India. TCPL intends to use its sizeable resources, the capabilities acquired and the brands it now has , to give "wings to its ambition in the value added liquid refreshment beverages space" in India, it said."This decision has been made after extensive deliberation between the JV partners and we feel this will bring in greater focus to the NourishCo Business. The liquid beverages category has exciting growth potential and this move will help us strengthen and widen our presence in it," TCPL MD &amp; CEO Sunil D'Souza said. Over the years, NourishCo has built a capable team and a network of distributors,co-packers and vendors. Tata to buy out PepsiCo's stake in JV NourishCo Beverages

New Delhi, Feb 5 () Shares of Tata Global Beverages on Wednesday rose nearly 4 per cent after the company reported 25 per cent growth in net profit for the quarter ended December.The scrip gained 3.91 per cent to close at Rs 394.60 on the BSE. During the day, it jumped 7.42 per cent to Rs 407.95 -- its 52-week high mark.At the NSE, it climbed 3.86 per cent to close at Rs 394.60.In traded volume terms, 9.27 lakh shares of the company were traded on the BSE and over 2 crore shares at the NSE during the day.Tata Global Beverages on Tuesday reported 25 per cent growth in net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2019 at Rs 135.85 crore.The company's net profit stood at Rs 108.86 crore during the corresponding quarter of 2018-19, Tata Global Beverages said in a release here.Its revenue grew 4 per cent to Rs 1,962 crore during the quarter under review as compared with Rs 1,912.58 crore a year ago. Tata Global Beverages stock climbs nearly 4 pc post Q3 earnings

The consolidated net profit of Tata Coffee Ltd (<keyword id="150734" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tcl" source="Orion">TCL</keyword>) stood at ₹69.46 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated total income for the quarter witnessed a 19.13 per cent growth during the October-December period at ₹754.76 crore as compared to ₹633.52 crore in the corresponding period the previous year, driven by higher realisations in Eight O'Clock Coffee (EOC) and instant coffee businesses of the company. The company, a subsidiary of Tata Consumer Products formerly known as <keyword id="148911" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-global-beverages" source="Orion">Tata Global Beverages</keyword>, stated that the improved price realisations driven by superior product mix in the instant coffee business both in India and Vietnam have aided the company's quarter performance. The operating performance of EOC business was impacted during the quarter under review by higher input and other costs, which are expected to ease over coming quarters, it said. Tata Coffee's Vietnam operations continue to deliver robust sales with improved profitability driven by higher sales of premium products, it said. "The performance of our instant coffee business continues to be robust. Tata Coffee's Vietnam operations continue to be strong with a healthy order pipeline. There is, however, continuing inflationary pressure on costs and impact on instant coffee sales in some geographies. Tata Coffee consolidated Q3 net profit falls 45% to ₹38 crore

If you’re sipping your favourite cuppa at Starbucks coffee shop in India, be assured that the ingredients used are approved by food regulator FSSAI. In recent news published in The Economic Times, Tata Starbucks Pvt Ltd, a joint venture of <keyword id="320278" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Global-Beverages-Ltd">Tata Global Beverages Ltd</keyword> and <keyword id="1115459" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Starbucks-Coffee-Co">Starbucks Coffee Co</keyword>, said it is "diligently working with the <keyword id="109212" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Food-Safety">Food Safety</keyword> and <keyword id="179673" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Standards-Authority-of-India">Standards Authority of India</keyword> (FSSAI) to provide the technical information relating to our pending ingredient applications that they have requested". 
 
"In line with the FSSAI guidelines, while we finalise the documentation necessary to complete these applications, Tata Starbucks has initiated the suspension of applicable ingredients from certain products served in our India stores," the company said in a regulatory filing. 
 
It however did not give details of the ingredients it is removing pending FSSAI approval. 
 
The company said it will use other FSSAI-approved ingredients that meet Starbucks global standards so as to enable it to continue offering its range of beverages, informs the financial daily. 
 
"These actions ensure that we are able to continue delivering the unique Starbucks Experience to our customers without disruption," it said. 
 
The company maintained that all its imported ingredients, including the ones it is suspending, were "safe and meet the safety standards in over 65 countries where Starbucks operates." 
 
"All of these imported ingredients received the then applicable product testing and safety authorisations when they were imported into India," the statement said. 
 
Starbucks, it said, has "the highest standards for the safety and quality of the beverages and food" offered to customers. "We are committed to complying with the regulations in every market we operate in."

She is now an independent director at four companies, and the latest to add her is IT major Tech Mahindra after Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tata Global Beverages (which operates Starbucks chain in India) and Ambuja Cement. Private Equity firm KKR appointed her as an adviser for their alternate investments. This is very good progress for someone who claims to have a<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/opinion/lunch-with-bs-shikha-sharma-110021600095_1.html"> ‘permanent inability to sell herself’</a>. This trait kept her away from landing a job on the very first day of recruitment at IIM Ahmedabad. The Benefit of Friends Yet, Sharma has many high-profile friends in the system. She had worked with Kalpana Morparia, the CEO of J P Morgan at ICICI, who is a part of Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) at pharma major Dr Reddy’s Labs. The company also has former Tata Power Managing Director Prasad Menon who was a part of Axis Bank board of directors until recently. She is also part of the board of Tata Global Beverages, which operates Starbucks chain in India. An independent banking analyst Hemindra wrote a report questioning the corporate governance practices of companies which have employed her. “The irony of publicly owned and listed blue-chip companies eagerly seeking Sharma for the prestigious position of independent director on their boards is that she had a poor track record and an unceremonious exit as chief executive officer of Axis Bank,” said a report by banking analyst Hemindra, who wrote a report on her. However, companies have defended their decision to have Sharma on board. Tech Mahindra’s statement on June 14 said, “She has rich experience in banking, insurance and an excellent track record and led the bank on a transformative journey from being primarily a corporate lender to a bank with a strong retail deposit franchise and a balanced lending book.” Hazari disagrees with Tech Mahindra’s take. Though her stint at ICICI-- her first job since she was recruited from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) -- had many successes including building the India’s largest private sector bank’s insurance business, her leadership at Axis Bank had a lot left to desire. E-mails sent to Tech Mahindra, Dr Reddy’s Labs and Tata Global Beverages did not elicit any response, while Sharma did not respond to a request for a call. The Cover-up Sharma’s plan for growth at Axis Bank’ was to increase large-sized corporate lending, that included a bunch of loans to infrastructure companies. Like all bad plans, it worked until it didn’t. The unrelenting chase for growth landed them in a bad soup with a large chunk <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/boxing-on-or-boxed-in-indian-banks-are-splintering-gadfly/articleshow/59788487.cms">of toxic loans</a>. What angered investors and the regulator alike is how the bank tried to sweep it under the carpet. So much so, the banking regulator Reserve Bank of India (RBI) <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/economy-politics/rbi-penalises-axis-bank-indian-overseas-bank-non-compliance/story/271996.html">had fined them</a>-- even though a measly ₹30 million-- for fudging accounts. The regulator’s version of their non-performing loans is 156% higher than what was admitted by the bank in the year 2016-17. Right after demonetization in 2016, the Enforcement Directorate unearthed a scam where<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/demonetisation-case-ed-files-first-chargesheet-involving-axis-bank-staff/articleshow/56959891.cms"> Axis Bank staff</a> was passing on unaccounted money into the system. According to Hazari, these are due to poor operational risk controls and other lapses which were prevalent in the bank. He also said that the bank <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/ex-axis-bank-executive-alleges-wrongful-termination/articleshow/49283008.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">persecuted whistleblowers with draconian clauses</a>, which can terminate an employee without giving any reason. “Incorporating such harsh measures effectively silences any honest banker from complaining against any regulatory lapses which could disrupt the growth of business,” Hazari said. It is within any company’s legal right to appoint anyone as an independent director. What experts like Hazari are questioning is the level of trust such boards can evoke when they appoint those whom regulators have recently shunned. New Delhi, May 14 () Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) on Thursday reported a net loss of Rs 122.48 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2020. The company, earlier known as Tata Global Beverages Ltd, had posted a net profit of Rs 35.99 crore in the January-March period a year ago, it said in a BSE filing. Net sales rose 35.45 per cent to Rs 2,405.03 crore during the quarter under review, as against Rs 1,775.46 crore in the year-ago period. TCPL Managing Director and CEO Sunil D'Souza said, "Nearly all our businesses have recorded good growth during the quarter. It has in many ways, been an unprecedented time for the organization in recent months and we geared up successfully to make sure our essential products reach consumers during this period." The company was able to adapt quickly to changes in consumer trends and buying behaviour through our delivery channels, he added. Total expenses stood at Rs 2,179.41 crore, compared to Rs 1,649.65 crore earlier, up 32.11 per cent. After merging the consumer products business of Tata Chemicals with Tata Global Beverages, the company was renamed TCPL. It owns brands like Tata Salt, Tata Tea, Tetley, Eight O'Clock Coffee and Himalayan water. "This is the maiden result of the combined entity," the company said. During the January-March quarter of this fiscal, TCPL's revenue from its India beverages segment was at Rs 754.83 crore, while the domestic food business stood at Rs 524.44 crore. "For the full year, on a like to like basis, the India foods business clocked a 12 per cent revenue growth. For the quarter, the business registered a 9 per cent revenue growth," it said. Its international beverages segment reported a revenue of Rs 874.41 crore as against Rs 821 crore in Q4 FY2018-19. "During the financial year, International Beverages business grew by 0.4 per cent on constant currency basis (excluding Czech which we exited this year). For the quarter, the business registered a 7 per cent revenue growth," it said. There was growth in Q4 across Tetley, Eight O'Clock brands and private labels in the international markets of US, UK and Canada, driven by consumers bulk buying to stock pantries, it added. For the full fiscal 2019-20, TCPL's net profit was Rs 460.11 crore, up 0.68 per cent from Rs 456.98 crore in the previous year. Net sales in the fiscal stood at Rs 9,637.42 crore, up 32.90 per cent, compared to Rs 7,251.50 crore in 2018-19. "Going forward, we will leverage the learnings from this period to accelerate growth and deliver value to our consumers," D'Souza said. In a separate filing, Tata Consumers said its board on Thursday recommended a final dividend of Rs 2.70 per equity share for the financial year 2019-20. "The Dividend, if approved by the members at the ensuing Annual General Meeting (AGM), will be paid after the AGM," it said. Tata Consumer Products Q4 net loss at Rs 122.48 crore

New Delhi, Feb 12 () Tata Chemicals on Wednesday said its promoter Tata Sons will increase the stake in the company to 25.26 per cent by acquiring shares aggregating to 1.08 per cent stake from other group firms. At present, Tata Sons holds 24.18 per cent stake in Tata Chemicals, the company said in a regulatory filing. As part of "restructuring of investment portfolio", the company said Tata Sons will acquire 7,05,522 shares from Tata Consumer Products (formerly Tata Global Beverages Ltd) and 1.6 lakh shares from Tata Coffee. Similarly, Tata Sons will also acquire 13,69,290 shares of Tata Chemicals from Ewart Investments Ltd and 5.18 lakh shares from Simto Investments Co Ltd. The total shares to be acquired amounts to 1.08 per cent of voting rights of Tata Chemicals, it added. The proposed acquisition will be carried out at prevailing market price on the date of proposed acquisition, it said, adding the the average weighted market price for 60-day trading period before the intimation of acquisition is Rs 693.26 per share. As per the regulatory filing, Tata Sons has confirmed that the acquisition price would not be higher by more than 25 per cent of Rs 693.26 per share. In a separate regulatory filing, Tata Coffee said the transaction is expected to be executed on or after February 18, 2020 at or around the prevailing price on the date of proposed sale. Tata Consumer Products, in another filing, said "funds received from this sale will be used for investment in the strategic growth areas in consumer beverages and foods businesses of the company". "There are 19 independent Tata companies in the UK, with diverse businesses. Each company continuously reviews its strategy and operations in the light of developments, and will continue to do so," read a statement from Tata Sons. 
 
"Access to markets and skilled workforce will remain important considerations," the statement added. 
 
Tata Group stocks had a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Bloodbath-in-the-Indian-markets-as-Brexit-causes-panic/articleshow/52895611.cms">hard fall </a>this morning after the Brexit results, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Bloodbath-in-the-Indian-markets-as-Brexit-causes-panic/articleshow/52895611.cms">going down </a>by up to 13%. This could be cited to the Indian conglomerate's huge exposure to UK. 
 
Specifically, Tata Motors stocks fell 12.9%, Tata Steel tanked 10.89%, TCS plummeted 4.81%, Tata Elxsi dipped 9.21%, Tata Global Beverages saw a fall of 7.26%, Tata Chemicals drubbed 5.72% and Tata Communications went down by 5.34%. 
 
Tata Sons has been operational in the UK since 1907, and out of its 19 firms having interests in the region, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Motors-profits-treble/articleshow/52519229.cms">JLR </a>and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Steel-UK-sells-its-Europe-Long-Products-business-to-Greybull/articleshow/52536515.cms">Tata Steel </a>are most globally known.

Tata Sons would focus on market access and skilled workforce after Brexit

New Delhi, Feb 4 () Tata Global Beverages Ltd on Tuesday reported a 24.76 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 135.85 crore in the third quarter ended December, aided by higher sales and lower tax rate.
 The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 108.89 crore in the year-ago period, Tata Global Beverages Ltd (TGBL) said in a regulatory filing.
 Revenue from operations in the third quarter stood at Rs 1,961.9 crore as compared with Rs 1,912.58 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal, it added.
 "Group consolidated net profit is higher by 25 per cent as compared to corresponding quarter of the previous year aided by lower tax rate and improvement in the performance of associates and joint ventures," the filing said.
 The company said its revenue growth was driven by improvement in branded and non-branded business.
 Commenting on the performance, TGBL Managing Director and CEO Ajoy Misra said, "The company recorded steady revenue growth despite challenging macroeconomic conditions in India and some key international markets."
 He further said, "Our new launches in India are geared towards unlocking white space opportunities through greater localisation. In international markets, we have launched products aimed at revitalising the black tea category."
 The company's focus on health and wellness continues and will further strengthen innovation agenda while investing behind core brands, Misra added.
 The India branded tea business clocked a growth of 7 per cent in volume and 6 per cent in value terms during the quarter, TGBL said.
 The joint venture business of Tata Starbucks clocked a 27 per cent growth in revenue during the quarter, opening 28 new stores. It now has 174 stores spread across 11 cities in India, it added.
 The company also launched new products in the UK and US markets aimed at revitalising black tea market, while in Canada it recorded volume growth in branded tea, it said. RKL RVK
