The Mumbai-based auto major on Monday launched a midsize SUV coupe <keyword id="20400827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curvv" source="keywords">Curvv</keyword> with petrol and diesel powertrains with a price starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. The company has already unveiled the electric version of the model in August. The model would be competing with the likes of <keyword id="2883300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Creta" source="Orion">Hyundai Creta</keyword>, <keyword id="7720018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Seltos" source="Orion">Kia Seltos</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, among others. "Curvv is being positioned in the fast-growing, mid-size SUV segment, which is roughly 16% of the whole industry (passenger vehicle) size. If translated into numbers, it would be like 7 lakh units a year," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle MD Shailesh Chandra told PTI in an interaction. The segment is very competitive with various brands having a product already in the market, he noted. Therefore, if one enters this segment so late, then it will have to think of coming up with a slightly differentiated approach, Chandra said. "And that was the thinking behind Curvv, which comes with an SUV coupe body style. We saw that this was gaining popularity globally, especially in the premium or luxury segment," he added. Further, he said: "So we thought, why don't we bring this into the crowded segment as a fresh, refreshing kind of a body style." When asked about sales expectations from the model, Chandra said: "We have come with this model, with the best in class features. It's a differentiated product in this and therefore we think it is going to perform well." He noted that Tata Motors currently has a market share of around 19% in the SUV segment and expects the new model to help it grow further. "We'll gain from where we are. The market leader in SUVs would be, say, 21-22 %, so it's a crowded segment. It's not that one player is holding the roost here. "All the top 3-4 players in SUVs are around the same market share figure," Chandra said. He noted that the company is also looking to enhance its dealer network by around 10-15 % in the next one year. "We have a very aggressive plan of expanding dealerships. We will need to have an enhanced network. We will have to make them bigger, also in size. And therefore, for EVs, we have started separation of the outlets. So there will be expansion in touchpoints, not only on the sales side, but big time on the service side as well," Chandra said. <keyword id="20400828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-curvv" source="keywords">Tata Curvv</keyword> comes with two petrol and a diesel engine option. "The introduction of the Curvv further enhances our SUV portfolio as a comprehensive mid-SUV product with multiple powertrains, several first-in-segment features, a brand new capable architecture - ATLAS and Level 2 ADAS," Chandra said. Besides Curvv, Tata Motors sells models like Punch, Nexon, Harrier and Safari in the domestic market.

At the same time, the research is going on. The aluminium, ironic oil, and different types of chemistry. I feel that it is also a good thing and there is a huge market for that." <keyword id="19934966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gadkari" source="keywords">Gadkari</keyword> said with government initiatives and incentives many Indian companies are venturing into lithium-ion battery manufacturing. Going further, Gadkari stated that India's EV market is expected to grow to one crore units of annual sales by 2030 and will create five crore jobs. Indian EV market has the potential to become Rs 20 lack crore by 2030. Gadkari asked the industry to focus on quality, better designs, and use the latest technology if they want to compete in the segment and boost exports. Consumers are now conscious of quality. The government is working on establishing a testing agency for better research and testing of vehicle manufacturing. CIIT Training Institute will be established in Pune with a sanctioned cost of Rs 450 crore. "Regarding the Testing Agency for Better Research and Development and Development world-class Testing Agency in CIIT Pune we have decided to start a new venture there with international standards and having all types of the facility which are available in the world and my department has sanctioned 450 Cor or that already DPR is in process and next three months we will try to start this project and that is to be very important for the industry where we will get maximum service and maximum to all the industry," he said. The Union Minister requested the automobile industry to support and cooperate with the government for India's scrappage policy. Gadkari asked the industry to promote and come up with better incentives for the scrappage of old vehicles. The vehicle manufacturers of the USA and Europe have increased their sales by 9 to 12 per cent by promoting scrappage policy. He also thanked the industry for the decision to provide a 3 percent discount for vehicle owners for scrapping their vehicles, adding that the cost of components can be reduced by 20-40 per cent due to the move. Gadkari urged the industry to establish their own scrappage centres. In his remarks, Gadkari said, "The automobile industry plays a pivotal role in realizing the Prime Minister's vision of transforming India into a 5 trillion-dollar economy and elevating it to the third largest economy globally. Our ambition is to extend it as the number one auto manufacturing industry worldwide. As we target a carbon-neutral status by 2070, innovation and sustainable practices in the auto sector are crucial." India will soon be in a position to export Lithium-ion batteries: Nitin Gadkari

<keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> plans to commence production of electric vehicles at the Sanand plant, acquired from Ford India, from April this year, as per a top company official. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a unit of Tata Motors, acquired the facility from Ford India for Rs 725.7 crore in January last year. "We are planning to commence electric vehicle production at Sanand with <keyword id="20190169" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexon" source="keywords">Nexon</keyword> EV from April," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh <keyword id="19912128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandra" source="keywords">Chandra</keyword> told PTI. The company has already commenced production of internal combustion engine-powered versions of the Nexon at the manufacturing plant with an installed capacity of 3 lakh units per annum. It can be further scaled up to 4.2 lakh units per annum. Chandra said the company is also looking to produce upcoming models at the facility. When asked about the company's product pipeline, he said that <keyword id="20290613" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="curvv-ev" source="keywords">Curvv EV</keyword> would be introduced around the second or third quarter of this calendar year. "We are also hoping that by the fag-end of this year, we should also be able to introduce Harrier EV and internal combustion engine (ICE) version of Curvv," Chandra said. On sales outlook for the next fiscal, he noted that the passenger vehicle industry is expected to grow by 5 per cent. "We have few launches planned, so will be targeting to grow better than the industry," Chandra stated. On the Budget wishlist, he stated that extending FAME benefits to personal electric cars would help in accelerating the growth of electrification in the country. Chandra noted that an increase in sales of electric cars was witnessed in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat when they offered incentives to the buyers. "Also, there is a problem of inverted duty structure in EVs that is also something that we have been asking," he noted. About talks on giving some concessions to a US-based EV major, Chandra said: "Our position is very simple that we are not worried about any specific competitor. Any player who is ready to participate in the EV space with upfront investment in localisation or charging infra development is welcome". He further said: "We are not afraid of the competition...we are effectively dealing with the competition, all we seek is a level playing field". Tata Motors to commence EV production at Sanand plant from April

<keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> on Tuesday said its electric vehicle arm has reduced prices of two models -- <keyword id="20563981" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexon-ev" source="keywords">Nexon.ev</keyword> and Tiago.ev -- by up to Rs 1.2 lakh on account of reduction in battery cost. The auto major has cut the price of Nexon.ev by up to Rs 1.2 lakh and now the model price starts at Rs 14.49 lakh. Similarly, the company has reduced the prices of Tiago.ev by up to Rs 70,000 with the base model now starting at Rs 7.99 lakh, Tata Motors said in a statement. Introductory prices of the recently-launched <keyword id="20078457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punch-ev" source="keywords">Punch.ev</keyword> remain unchanged as they already factor in reduction in battery cost in the foreseeable future, it added. "Battery costs constitute a substantial part of the overall cost of an EV. "With battery cell prices having softened in the recent past and considering their potential reduction in the foreseeable future, we have chosen to proactively pass on the resulting benefits directly to customers," <keyword id="20078455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-passenger-electric-mobility" source="keywords">Tata Passenger Electric Mobility</keyword> (TPEM) Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Srivatsa said. While EVs have grown rapidly over the last few years, the company's mission is to accelerate the mainstream adoption of EVs by making them more accessible nationwide, he added. EVs have shown a strong growth momentum and are substantially outperforming the overall passenger vehicle industry growth, Tata Motors said. In 2023, the EV segment grew by over 90 per cent against the 8 per cent growth recorded by the PV industry, it said. This growth momentum has continued in 2024 as well with EV sales registering a 100 per cent year-on-year growth in January 2024. TPEM with over 70 per cent market share is the leader in this fast-growing segment, the automaker stated. Tata Motors cuts EV prices by up to ₹1.2 lakh as battery cost dips

Tata Power deploys EV charging points on key routes to Ayodhya

New Delhi, <keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> expects the industry sales growth of electric vehicles in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> to moderate to 40-45 per cent this year with the base becoming bigger, a top company official said on Wednesday. The company, which launched Punch.ev on Wednesday, plans to introduce four more EV models this year, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd &amp; Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said. It is expecting to grow faster than the industry EV growth rate, he added. "Two years back, EVs were growing on a very low base. In the last calendar year, it had a growth of nearly 100 per cent but now the base is getting bigger. By the end of this financial year, it will be around 90,000 to 1 lakh. On this high base, I think the growth (industry) would moderate to about 40 per cent to 45 per cent," Chandra said. As for Tata Motors, he said with five EV products lined up for launch, the company expects to beat the industry growth rate. When asked about EV penetration in the overall sales of the company, he said, "Currently we are between 12 to 15 per cent. Fortunately, we are also growing in <keyword id="20088520" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ice" source="keywords">ICE</keyword> (<keyword id="20225695" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="internal-combustion-engine" source="keywords">Internal Combustion Engine</keyword>). So, the denominator keeps changing." In 2023, Tata Motors sold a total of 69,153 units of EVs. Further, he said, "In the next three years, we have taken a target of achieving 25 per cent of total sales with all the products that we are going to launch. 2024 should be around 15-17 per cent." Chandra said apart from Punch.ev, Tata Motors will launch the Curvv, Harrier EV, <keyword id="20225694" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sierra" source="keywords">Sierra</keyword> and Altroz EV this year, most of which are expected in the second half. Punch.ev has been launched with an introductory price ranging from Rs 10.99 lakh-14.49 lakh. It comes with two battery pack options - 25 kWh, offering a range of 315 km, and a 35 kWh option, which offers a range of 421 km on a single charge.

British Prime Minister <keyword id="221875" type="General" weightage="70" keywordseo="rishi-sunak" source="Orion">Rishi Sunak</keyword> hailed it as an "incredibly proud" moment for the country's automotive industry and described it as a testament to the strength of the UK car manufacturing industry and its skilled workers. <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> owns UK-based luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which will be the anchor customer of the new gigafactory with an initial output of 40GWh - making it one of the largest in Europe. Production at the new gigafactory is due to start in 2026 and is pitched as a key driver behind Sunak's priority to grow the UK economy. "Tata Group's multi-billion-pound investment in a new battery factory in the UK is a testament to the strength of our car manufacturing industry and its skilled workers," said Sunak. "With the global transition to zero-emission vehicles well underway, this will help grow our economy by driving forward our lead in battery technology whilst creating as many as 4,000 jobs, and thousands more in the supply chain," he said. "We can be incredibly proud that Britain has been chosen as home to Tata Group's first gigafactory outside India, securing our place as one of the most attractive places to build electric vehicles," the British prime minister said. As one of the largest-ever investments in the UK auto industry, the new factory will create up to 4,000 highly skilled jobs as well as thousands of further jobs in the wider supply chain for battery materials and critical raw minerals. The gigafactory will secure UK-produced batteries for JLR as well as other manufacturers in the UK and Europe. The location of the new gigafactory is expected to be in Somerset, south west England. "Our multi-billion-pound investment will bring state-of-the-art technology to the country, helping to power the automotive sector's transition to electric mobility, anchored by our own business, JLR," said N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of parent company Tata Sons. "With this strategic investment, the Tata Group further strengthens its commitment to the UK, alongside our many companies operating here across technology, consumer, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive," Chandrasekaran said. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) said details of the government's incentives and support provided to the Tata Group as part of the agreement will be published in due course as part of regular transparency data. However, reports in the lead-up to the announcement had indicated subsidies in the form of grants, energy subsidies and other training and research funding would be part of the agreed package. "Today's multibillion-pound investment demonstrates that this government has got the right plan when it comes to the automotive sector," noted UK Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch. "We are backing the UK car industry to help grow our economy as we transition to electric vehicles, and this latest investment will secure thousands of highly-skilled jobs across the country," Badenoch said. The investment of over 4 billion pounds is seen as a historic moment for the UK's growing electric vehicles (EV) industry, with JLR's suite of <keyword id="91410" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="range-rover" source="Orion">Range Rover</keyword>, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar brands as the key customers. The Tata investment is described as crucial to boosting the UK's battery manufacturing capacity needed to support the electric vehicle industry in the long term and the new plant will cover almost half of the battery production that the Faraday Institution estimates the country will need by 2030. "This is a huge vote of confidence in the UK and one that will drive growth in our economy, creating thousands of jobs and powering our transition to electric cars," said UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt. "Tata Group's gigafactory builds on the strength of our manufacturing industry and shows we're on the right track, backing the sectors that will underpin our future prosperity for decades to come," he said. DBT said the government is committed to making the UK one of the best places in the world for automotive investment, as evidenced by the Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF), the British Industry Supercharger supporting industry energy needs, and the strong programme of support for research and development. "This new gigafactory puts us firmly in the fast lane to becoming the capital of Europe's electric car market, and makes crystal clear how they see the UK as the place to be for their future growth," added UK Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps. Rishi Sunak hails Tata Group's multi-billion EV investment in UK

New Delhi, <keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> on Monday said its board has approved the proposal to demerge the company into two separate listed entities. The commercial vehicles business and its related investments would be housed in one entity while the passenger vehicles businesses including PV (Passenger Vehicle), EV (Electric Vehicle), <keyword id="19916884" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jlr" source="keywords">JLR</keyword> ( Jaguar Land Rover), and its related investments would be part of the other entity, the auto major said in a regulatory filing. The demerger will be implemented through an <keyword id="19901085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nclt" source="keywords">NCLT</keyword> scheme of arrangement and all shareholders of <keyword id="20320550" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tml" source="keywords">TML</keyword> (<keyword id="20176909" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors-ltd" source="keywords">Tata Motors Ltd</keyword>) shall continue to have identical shareholding in both the listed entities, it added. Tata Motors shares on Monday ended 0.12 per cent down at Rs 987.20 apiece on the BSE. In a conversation at the Auto Expo - The Motor Show 2023, Chandra said, "...I think the solution lies in the charging infra and ability to charge cars fast, and that also mainly on the highways". "..Having seen that in the last 2 to 3 years, or last 1 year, there are 3000 chargers which have been put which was not the case 4-5 years back. So in 2-3 years, I think the situation will be very different" he added. Chandra stated that the transition from traditional fuels to the EV ecosystem is 'inevitable', and that the world for the automobile company after achieving its net zero targets would be 'fully electric'. "...Globally also it is acknowledged that given that the automotive industry has a significant contribution to the emissions, so it has to also move towards zero-emission technology very fast," he said, noting that in Europe and UK, the timeline to achieve the net zero target is defined aggressively by 2035. Talking about the affordability of Tata's EV products, Chandra said, "If you see the median prices of the cars sold in the country, it is roughly 9-9.5 lakh. So that's the sweet spot where the demand of the PV industry is there". "As far as mainstreaming of EV products is concerned, I think we have come to some distance in terms of bringing a product which can do that" he added, referring to the Tata Tiago EV. Highlighting the company's launches, Chandra noted that the products will cover the entire spectrum of price points and therefore, people with multiple affordability levels could buy a car. Tata Motors showcased 14 different vehicles at the Auto Expo 2023, including 4 natural gas-powered models, 2 fuel agonistic, new generation architectures, 5 BEVs (Battery <keyword id="6354973" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-vehicles" source="Orion">Electric Vehicles</keyword>), 2 Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and one Hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicle.
