With both companies coming together, Tata Communications will support The <keyword id="132027" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="switch" source="Orion">Switch</keyword> customers with global reach to over 190 countries and territories and The Switch will bring live production capabilities helping organisations to produce high-quality immersive content faster and efficiently, Tata Communications said in a statement. "Tata Communications (Netherlands) B.V., a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Tata Communications Limited, will acquire a 100 per cent equity stake of Switch Enterprises, <keyword id="201509" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="llc" source="Orion">LLC</keyword>, USA and, as part of the transaction, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries," Tata Communications said. The company will acquire the assets of the subsidiaries of Switch Enterprises, LLC based out of Canada, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Switch Enterprises, LLC, USA, along with its subsidiaries are collectively referred to as 'Switch'. "The total purchase consideration payable for the acquisition of Switch is USD 58.8 million, or Rs 486.3 crore, subject to customary closing adjustments," the company said. Tata Communications to acquire US-based Switch Enterprises for ₹486 crore

Tata Sons executive chairman <keyword id="97017" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="N-Chandrasekaran">N Chandrasekaran</keyword> has purchased 1 lakh shares of <keyword id="6370462" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-communications">Tata Communications</keyword> from secondary market, according to a regulatory filing. "We have received an intimation from N Chandrasekaran , executive chairman, <keyword id="8928715" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-sons-private-limited">Tata Sons Private Limited</keyword> regarding his purchase of 1,00,000 equity shares of <keyword id="628844" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Communications-Limited">Tata Communications Limited</keyword> at an average price of Rs 249.15, excluding brokerage and STT, per share as on March 16, 2020," Tata <keyword id="6379089" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="communications">Communications</keyword> said in a BSE filing. Shares of Tata Communications closed at Rs 226 a unit, down by 7.92 per cent compared to previous close, at BSE on Wednesday.

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran buys 1 lakh shares in Tata Communications

Mumbai, <keyword id="30335" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shares">Shares</keyword> of <keyword id="6370462" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-communications">Tata Communications</keyword> plunged over 6% on Wednesday after the government announced to sale its entire 26.12% stake in the company. At 12.10 p.m., its shares were trading at ₹1,060.65, lower by ₹69.30 or 6.13% from its previous close. In a notice Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) said that the <keyword id="6356303" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centre">Centre</keyword> intends to disinvest its entire shareholding of 26.12% of paid up equity capital in Tata Communications, erstwhile Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), through OFS by promoters through the stock exchanges and thereafter to the strategic partner as per <keyword id="35210" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword>'s norms. DIPAM has invited proposals from eligible merchant bankers to assist and advise the government in the process. VSNL, a central public sector enterprise was privatised in 2002 by disinvesting 25% shareholding along with transfer of management control to Panatone <keyword id="3777368" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="finvest">Finvest</keyword> Limited, the strategic partner (SP). Subsequent to the strategic disinvestment, the name of the Company was changed to Tata Communications Limited (TCL). <keyword id="46894" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> holds 14.07% stake in the company. Tata Communications stocks plunge 6% as govt plans to off-load its stake

New Delhi, Nov 28 () Digital infrastructure provider Tata Communications on Thursday said it has entered into an agreement with Kacific Broadband Satellites Group (Kacific) for providing global internet and cyber security services.
 "Kacific has selected Tata Communications...to provide terrestrial connectivity services as it readies for the launch of its first satellite, Kacific1," Tata Communications said in a regulatory filing.
 Kacific chose to enter into this arrangement with Tata Communications because of the scale of the company's global network and its security expertise, Kacific CEO Christian Patouraux said in a statement.
 "Our high-speed broadband will reach people living across both the most remote rural locations and the most densely populated urban centres in the Asia Pacific region," Patouraux said.
 Tata Communications will provide global internet and cyber security services for Kacific's Ka-band satellite network.
 Kacific1 is a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) that will use 56 high-power Ka-band beams to deliver affordable, high-speed broadband to telecommunications companies, internet service providers and governments in South East Asia and the Pacific.
 Tata Communications Vice President and General Manager of Global Media and Entertainment Services Brian Morris said : "We are pleased to work with Kacific to provide them a unified service across security and network management".
 The shares of Tata Communications were trading at Rs 448.40, up 7.22 per cent on BSE in the morning trade. SID DRR

Tata Communications, Kacific sign global IP connectivity, cyber security deal

Tata Communications has signed a deal to sell its 67% stake in South African telecommunications unit Neotel to Vodacom – an arm of the Vodafone Group – for about $680 million (Rs 3,978 crore), as per sources. 
 
Tata Communications confirmed the development, saying that Vodacom has agreed to buy its total stake in Neotel. 
 
Tata Communications owns 67% of Neotel, which provides wholesale telecommunications and data services to African companies. Following the development, Tata Communications’ share rose 2.6% to Rs 301.55. 
 
“It is in line with our financial objectives while paving the way for Neotel to improve its value proposition in the South African market,” said Vinod Kumar, managing director and chief executive at Tata Communications. 
 
The Tata Group-owned undersea cable company was under a net debt of $1.4 billion and had not been able to raise funds to meet capital expenditure requirements. 
 
The Vodacom Group will now get the rights to use 15,000 km of Neotel’s fibre optic cable, including 8,000 km in Johannesburg and Cape Town, a source told The Economic Times. Moreover, Vodacom will also get airwaves in the 1.8 GHz, 800 MHz and 3.5 GHz bands. 
Tata Communications had first invested in Neotel in 2006 by paying around $250 million for 26% stake. Later, it increased its stake to 67%.

 We got into a candid conversation with <keyword id="2808488" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mehul-Kapadia">Mehul Kapadia</keyword>, managing director, F1 Business at <keyword id="6370462" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Communications">Tata Communications</keyword> to understand the product and to get his views the future of <keyword id="1033478" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="broadcasting-industry">broadcasting industry</keyword> in India, and here is what he had to share. 
 
On Media Ecosystem 
Today, the biggest challenge broadcasters face is: how do we deliver exceptional experiences to the consumers at a time when technology platforms are evolving rapidly, new business models are emerging, and more competition is arising from multiple sectors? Tata Communications’ Media Ecosystem is just an answer to this problem. To come up with this offering, we put together all the strengths we have in terms of fibre technology, video connect and other product offerings, and then added a layer of managed services in terms of Cloud services to enable great viewing experiences. 
 
Media Ecosystem lets broadcasters source content and bring it to the Indian sub-continent by optimizing it for different distribution systems that Indians use it. This platforms enables both, content developers through to the owners, with the ability to experiment with new formats, launch new services and channels at the touch of a button. 
 
On the future of Indian broadcasting industry 
I think it is all about being seamless and personalized. If you are watching a live sporting action today, it is not just about what you see on the television. You want to experience more that what you can view on your screens. For instance: You are watching F1 racing where a driver has just overtaken the other driver, but live broadcast hasn’t captured it, you can quickly look up at your second screen like tablet while your standard viewing experience is going on. Now, how do you even sync it up, how do you bring that ability into the viewer’s experience? That is what broadcasters have to think through. 
 
Plus, in future, broadcasters could also look at how they can integrate some of this into a way social media is presented – they can be immersed in media at the same time along with their friends and enjoy a joined viewing experience rather than a single viewing experience. You may ask, if such seamless experiences are available today and our answer would be no. 
 Simply put, if you ask me what the future of broadcasting is going to be all about? I would say, it is going to be all about immersive experiences...experiences that happen at my time when I want it apart from obviously what is happening live. Even the live content...how it can happen in a way that I could consume it. For instance: When <keyword id="28723" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Usain-Bolt">Usain Bolt</keyword> is running in Olympics, I have to be at some other place, so how do I get immersive experience on it without actually being there? This is what the broadcasting industry is headed towards and that is what broadcasters should be focused on delivering to the consumers 
 
On net neutrality 
But do these seamless experiences make sense at a time when net neutrality in India is under question? Well, Mehul Kapadia preferred not to comment on the same. And we really can’t blame him, as the issue is quite a sensitive one—especially for the telecommunication service providers and broadcasting industry.

Is Tata Communications heralding a new era in the broadcasting industry?

New Delhi, Feb 19 () State-owned Hemisphere Properties India Ltd's board has approved issuance of shares to Tata Communications under an agreement between them in connection with transfer of surplus land during the disinvestment of erstwhile VSNL in 2002. Hemisphere Properties India is a special purpose vehicle and custodian of 773.13 acre land that was owned by then state-owned telecom firm VSNL. "HPIL at its board meeting held on February 18, 2020 has approved allotment and issue of shares to the shareholders of the company as on record date, September 18, 2018, as defined in the scheme in the ratio of 1:1," Tata Communications said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday. In February 2002, the government sold majority stake in VSNL, now known as Tata Communications. At the time of disinvestment, VSNL's 773.13-acre of surplus land in four cities -- Pune, Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai -- was kept out of the disinvestment process. These land parcels were then transferred to HPIL. VSNL had a total of 1,230.13 acres of land. In 2005, HPIL was set up under the telecom ministry to execute the transaction related to the surplus VSNL land. Under the proposed scheme, HPIL had to issue fully paid-up equity to shareholders of Tata Communication in the ratio of 1:1. This issuance has now been approved by the HPIL board. PRS RAM

Aon Hewitt ranks Indigo and Tata Communications as best employers in India

It’s interesting to see how Internet has emerged as the next big thing in India. Everyone is connected in our country to the Internet in one form or the other. Indian consumers’ love for the Internet has reached to the level that they are even willing to give up television for an Internet connection says a <keyword id="6370462" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Communications">Tata Communications</keyword> report. 
 
Recently, the telecommunications giant had done a survey to understand human behaviour when it comes to Internet, and they have come with such interesting insights. Here are the rest: 
· 82% of surveyed Indians admit to a ‘Fear of Missing Out’ (FOMO) when not connected to the Internet 
· Television seems to be the biggest loser in India with 43% ready to give it up for an Internet connection 
· 60% of Indians surveyed equate the Internet with the World Wide Web; showcasing a gap in the actual understanding of the Internet 
· Only half of all global respondents accurately identify where the Internet resides (in network connected data centers), while 82% do not know that the fastest mode of Internet delivery to their devices is through sub-sea cables 
· 60% of surveyed Indians identify network connected data centers as the correct source of the Internet, compared to 51% globally 
· The study also reveals that Asian respondents appear to be the most ‘Internet-dependent’ with less than half of surveyed Singaporeans and Indians capable of lasting up to 12 hours without internet access compared to 86% of German, 77% of French, 75% of US and 70% of UK respondents 
· 61% of Indian respondents believe that ‘everyone owns the Internet’, compared to 70% globally 
· This study further discloses that tablets and smartphones are rapidly replacing television as the preferred screen as nearly twice as many surveyed Indians (43%) are willing to give up television for the Internet, compared to Americans (17%) and Europeans (22%) respondents 
 
This report clearly shows how important Internet and all its wonders are for the Indian consumer. It has become a part of everyone’s life (at least in the metros) and thus, one cannot undermine the power this world wide tool. Companies are raking in moolah through this platform and common people are turning into billionaires with one good Internet idea. It will be great to see the next ‘big business idea’ in the country coming from the Internet, and see if we’ll have another Alibaba in the making. Let’s wait and watch!

43% Indians Are Ready To Give Up Television For An Internet
Connection: Tata Communications Survey

As the price competition in India’s telecom space heats up, a number of smaller players are falling by the wayside. <keyword id="6359475" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-teleservices">Tata Teleservices</keyword>, which comprises the <keyword id="6711152" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="docomo">DoCoMo</keyword> network and T24 mobile service, posted a net <keyword id="6357392" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="loss">loss</keyword> of ₹275 billion ($4 billion) for the financial year 2017-18 - the largest ever loss in a financial year for an Indian company. In addition, another company in the telecom space, Reliance Communications (not to be confused with Reliance <keyword id="2003276" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> Infocomm Ltd), posted the second largest annual loss for an Indian company in 2017-18. The company, which is headed by Anil Ambani, reported a loss of ₹239 billion for the year, after ending its wireless operations and offloading its telecom infrastructure to Jio. The free sale to Airtel Tata Teleservices’ net revenue almost halved in 2017-18 to ₹70 billion as it sold off its wireless business. While the company’s operating loss was a relatively paltry ₹6.6 billion, its huge overall loss is mostly due to the fact that it sold its wireless services business to market leader Airtel in October 2017 for <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/company/corporate-trends/tata-teleservices-to-sell-its-wireless-mobile-business-to-bharti-airtel/articleshow/61051618.cms">absolutely nothing</a>, taking a write-off on the entire unit in the process. The debt-ridden wireless business had been making losses for years on end, which is why Tata was looking to exit the unit completely. The unit was originally a joint venture with NTT Docomo, a Japanese mobile operator, which sold off its 26% stake at a considerable loss in 2014. With the pending sale to Airtel, Tata will be able to offload some of its current spectrum payment obligations. The rest of the business? The future of the remaining parts of Tata Teleservices is not completely certain. In March 2018, the former managing director of Teleservices,Mukund Govind Rajan, mounted a $1 billion bid along with TPG, a private equity firm, for the the parts of the business that were unsold - the enterprise communications and fibre segments. However, Tata Teleservices’ parent, Tata Sons, rejected the bid, saying it would merge the business with Tata Communications, its internet provider subsidiary, instead. This is contingent on the approval of the government, which has a 26% stake in Tata Communications. It will probably not be too keen on forking out a proportional amount (around $260 million) to buy the remaining parts of Teleservices. It is still said to be assessing the merger.

I had the opportunity to get exclusive access behind the scenes of this mega show. Running around with the Tata Communications team gave me a detailed insight into the logistics of this undertaking. The India Side On site, the team has a futuristic monitoring control room dubbed Tata Pod that controls and sees every aspect of video transmission to and from the track. This pod travels around the world with the team. The video feeds are encoded onsite and then transmitted to a remote production gallery in Barcelona where the live TV feeds are produced. The Barcelona side These TV feeds are then carried by Tata Communications’ deterministic cloud distribution platform over engineered internet to circa 40 rights holding broadcasters around the world. Tata Communications and Dorna teams will also boost migration from an onsite traditional media production to a remote production that will culminate in a future cloud-based model, increasing the number of video signals from 60 to 110 – some in ultra-low latency – providing more content to the viewers.
