<keyword id="176328" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tata-coffee" source="Orion">Tata Coffee</keyword> on Tuesday reported a 44.71 per cent decline in consolidated net profit during the December quarter at ₹38.40 crore. The consolidated net profit of Tata Coffee Ltd (<keyword id="150734" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tcl" source="Orion">TCL</keyword>) stood at ₹69.46 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated total income for the quarter witnessed a 19.13 per cent growth during the October-December period at ₹754.76 crore as compared to ₹633.52 crore in the corresponding period the previous year, driven by higher realisations in Eight O'Clock Coffee (EOC) and instant coffee businesses of the company. The company, a subsidiary of Tata Consumer Products formerly known as <keyword id="148911" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-global-beverages" source="Orion">Tata Global Beverages</keyword>, stated that the improved price realisations driven by superior product mix in the instant coffee business both in India and Vietnam have aided the company's quarter performance. The operating performance of EOC business was impacted during the quarter under review by higher input and other costs, which are expected to ease over coming quarters, it said. Tata Coffee's Vietnam operations continue to deliver robust sales with improved profitability driven by higher sales of premium products, it said. "The performance of our instant coffee business continues to be robust. Tata Coffee's Vietnam operations continue to be strong with a healthy order pipeline. There is, however, continuing inflationary pressure on costs and impact on instant coffee sales in some geographies. In fact, they’ve already starting supplying India’s own homegrown coffee to the Starbucks Reserve in Seattle as a <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/tata-coffee-begins-supplying-homegrown-blend-to-starbucks-globally-118071001145_1.html">pilot demonstration</a>. Starbucks first came to India in partnership with Tata Global Beverages through a 50/50 joint venture back in 2012. Their roasting and sourcing was exclusively done with <keyword id="2661474" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Coffee-Limited">Tata Coffee LImited</keyword>. Starbucks has some 300,000 suppliers in its supply chain and a vertical integration model in place, that ensures quality maintenance as well as ethical practices. Hitting the global standard Tata Coffee Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Global Beverages, has a microlot model that helps break the traditional notion that Indian coffee doesn’t match up to Latin American blends. Its Indian Estates Blend, cultivated in the Nullore and Yemmigoondi estates of Karnataka, is harvested in the same manner to match global standards. Since the soil conditions and climate issues in India aren’t the best for coffee, they’ve taken their 8,000 hectare plantation and divided it into 800 microblocks. That’s 10 hectares per block. This enables the company to micromanage each block as per specific climate and soil parameters. Thus, farmers can keep track of each variable individually. Aside from going the Starbucks way, Tata Coffee Limited also has plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Vietnam. This will be the company’s first international unit and is expected to be operational by January next year.

 Last year, this single-origin Arabica coffee grown in <keyword id="6354780" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>’s <keyword id="65856" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kodagu">Kodagu</keyword> district was shipped around 8,000 miles to the <keyword id="3448642" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="starbucks-reserve-roastery">Starbucks Reserve Roastery</keyword> and Tasting Room in Seattle, <keyword id="6355055" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="USA">USA</keyword>, where it was roasted to perfection. 
 The <keyword id="4328137" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="starbucks-reserve-programme">Starbucks Reserve Programme</keyword> is an ongoing series of the rarest and most exotic coffees which are unique, small-lot coffees that the company selects from all over the world. 
 Located at around 3,000 feet above sea level, <keyword id="4110132" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nullore-estate">Nullore estate</keyword> is the largest Arabica plantation owned by the Tata—Starbucks’ joint venture partnership in India.

The 394-hectare estate produces over 500 tonnes of coffee every year. 
 
To put things into perspective, the first official ‘Indian coffee’ to be available through the brand: Starbucks was introduced in 2013, to celebrate the Tata-Starbucks first anniversary in the market. 
 
Starbucks had created a special India-sourced coffee, called ‘India Estates Blend’, as a tribute but it was sourced, roasted, packaged, and sold only in India. 
 But that was sourced from multiple coffee lots, unlike <keyword id="3694540" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nullore">Nullore</keyword> Estate coffee which was is a 'Microlot coffee'. A Microlot is a small quantity coffee usually to about 40 bags, from a single estate that has been deliberately set aside from other coffee because it has a high 'cupping score which means better quality.

Ms. <keyword id="17256" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Menon">Menon</keyword> made us realize that some of our coffees need to be marketed as a brand as they are a great quality produce.” 
 
What makes ‘Block 19’special? 
 
For starters, this Arabica coffee is grown under a unique two-tier shade system under local and fruit bearing trees. 
 
The shade is carefully controlled, which helps the coffee bean mature slowly, allowing it to absorb its environment which gives it the special smell and taste. 
 
 
 
The Taste 
 
The coffee is intensely fragrant and aromatic, with notes of red apple, caramel, citrus, toasted nuts, and milk chocolate. 
This taste and smell is attributed to the flora and fauna that surrounds this 8-hectares estate. 
 
Trees like Ficus, Jackfruit, and Silver Oak surround the coffee plants giving the earthiness to the coffee. 
Block 19 is home to a colony of ‘fruit bats’ and migratory birds which are the main reason behind the coffee’s fruity persona. 
The estate also plays host to the honey bee.

Sunalini Menon, Asia’s first woman coffee expert has been credited for the experiential of deconstructing the Nullore Microlot. She closely worked on this micro lot that has put Indian coffee on the global map. 
 
She says that this coffee has opened up opportunities for the quality coffee that India produces now, ‘To nurture every particular bean to reach the best quality, the processing takes up the entire year. From the soil, to the climate to even pesticides, can affect the coffee bean and we took extra care to send out 2 tonnes of the Nullore estate coffee of which each bean was tested for quality before being shipped out to the US," she proudly exclaims.

<ul><li><keyword id="148911" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Global-Beverages">Tata Global Beverages</keyword> saw a 17% fall in profits to ₹152 crores. </li><li>But the company’s India tea business clocked a growth of 8% in volume and value. </li><li>Tata <keyword id="6377922" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="starbucks">Starbucks</keyword> clocked a 26% growth in revenue for the quarter. </li></ul>Tata Global Beverages’s second quarter profits fell by 17.1% to ₹152 crore. Its revenues grew by 4% to ₹1,834 crore. However, thankfully because of the chai and coffee lovers, the company – which is the world’s second largest manufacturer and distributor of tea – saw no impact of economic slowdown on sales. “Our flagship brands in India recorded good growth and we will continue to focus on white space opportunities in the Indian market,” said Ajoy Misra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Global Beverages. According to the company, the India tea business clocked a growth of 8% in volume and value terms. Meanwhile, Tata Starbucks’ sales grew 26% for the quarter. Its international sales are growing too. The total revenue from Tata Coffee and <keyword id="13486" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vietnam">Vietnam</keyword> unit saw an 18% growth along with a volume growth from tea and coffee in the UK, US and Canada. “Our international markets reflected volume growth in both tea and coffee. We will continue to strengthen our innovation agenda while further strengthening our core brands. Our JVs continue to perform well and have posted good revenue growth in the quarter,” said Misra.

Chai and coffee were not hit by the great Indian economic slowdown

New Delhi, Feb 12 () Tata Chemicals on Wednesday said its promoter Tata Sons will increase the stake in the company to 25.26 per cent by acquiring shares aggregating to 1.08 per cent stake from other group firms. At present, Tata Sons holds 24.18 per cent stake in Tata Chemicals, the company said in a regulatory filing. As part of "restructuring of investment portfolio", the company said Tata Sons will acquire 7,05,522 shares from Tata Consumer Products (formerly Tata Global Beverages Ltd) and 1.6 lakh shares from Tata Coffee. Similarly, Tata Sons will also acquire 13,69,290 shares of Tata Chemicals from Ewart Investments Ltd and 5.18 lakh shares from Simto Investments Co Ltd. The total shares to be acquired amounts to 1.08 per cent of voting rights of Tata Chemicals, it added. The proposed acquisition will be carried out at prevailing market price on the date of proposed acquisition, it said, adding the the average weighted market price for 60-day trading period before the intimation of acquisition is Rs 693.26 per share. As per the regulatory filing, Tata Sons has confirmed that the acquisition price would not be higher by more than 25 per cent of Rs 693.26 per share. In a separate regulatory filing, Tata Coffee said the transaction is expected to be executed on or after February 18, 2020 at or around the prevailing price on the date of proposed sale. Tata Consumer Products, in another filing, said "funds received from this sale will be used for investment in the strategic growth areas in consumer beverages and foods businesses of the company". Of this, 75 were invited to an event that helped them build their confidence and interview skills, followed by a boot camp that 30 shortlisted women attended. Finally, 10 participants were given the opportunity to join PayPal and continue their professional journey at the end of the initiative.

A round of interviews will then narrow down the attendees to 30 Rechargers who will enter a three-week technology boot camp conducted by PayPal as well as key industry leaders. The boot camp will focus on technology and business-oriented training to help the participants get up to speed with the latest in the industry.

RIL gains nearly a percent The shares of Mukesh Ambani owned RIL were trading nearly a percent higher on Friday. The company’ telecom arm Jio has partnered AeroMobile to launch mobile services on 22 flights on international routes, with plans starting at ₹499 per day. New Delhi, Feb 18 () Tata Sons, a promoter of Tata Chemicals, on Tuesday picked up more than 27.52 lakh shares of the company for Rs 208 crore from other promoter entities. According to the block data available on the BSE, Tata Sons purchased a total of 27,52,662 shares of Tata Chemicals. The shares were bought at an average price of Rs 755, valuing the transaction at Rs 207.82 crore, the data showed. The stocks were picked up from other promoter entities -- Ewart Investments, Tata Global Beverages, Simto Investment Company and Tata Coffee. Overall promoters held 31.08 per cent stake in Tata Chemicals at the end of December 2019. This included Tata Sons owning 23.92 per cent stake in the company. The stock of Tata Chemicals settled at Rs 750 on the BSE on Tuesday, down 0.30 per cent from the previous close. AST SHWSHW

Tata Sons picks up Tata Chemical shares worth Rs 208-cr from other promoter entities

New Delhi, Dec 18 () Shares of various Tata Group companies on Wednesday plunged up to 4 per cent after the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) restored Cyrus Mistry as Tata Sons Chairman.
Tata Global Beverages tanked 4.14 per cent, Tata Coffee plunged 3.88 per cent and Tata Motors dropped 3.05 per cent on the BSE. Tata Motors was the top loser among the BSE Sensex constituents.
Also, Indian Hotels Company dipped 2.48 per cent, Tata Chemicals fell 1.65 per cent, Tata Investment Corporation 1.22 per cent and Tata Power Company 0.98 per cent.
In contrast, Tata Consultancy Services stock rose marginally by 0.07 per cent, Tata Metaliks gained 2.07 per cent, Tata Communications 1.68 per cent, Tata Elxsi 1.53 per cent, Tata Steel 1.16 per cent and Titan Company 0.09 per cent.
 In a big win for Cyrus Mistry, the NCLAT on Wednesday restored him as executive chairman of Tata Sons and ruled that appointment of N Chandrasekaran as the head of the holding company of salt-to-software conglomerate was illegal.
 The NCLAT however stayed the operation of the order with respect to reinstatement for four weeks to allow Tatas to appeal.
Mistry, a scion of wealthy Shapoorji Pallonji family, was in a coup removed as Chairman of Tata Sons in October 2016. 
Mistry, whose family owns 18.4 per cent stake in Tata Sons, challenged his removal in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

New Delhi, Jan 7 () Coffee exports from India rose marginally to 3.50 lakh tonne in 2019 as compared to 3.48 lakh tonne in the previous year, according to the Coffee Board.
 India is the third-largest producer and exporter of coffee in Asia.
 Italy, Germany and Russia were the major export destinations for Indian coffee last year. India ships both Robusta and Arabica varieties, besides instant coffee.
 Robusta coffee exports rose 4.10 per cent to 1,86,360 tonne in 2019 from 1,79,004 tonne in 2018, the Board data showed.
 Export of Arabica coffee however declined 10.75 per cent to 47,341.82 tonne from 53,049 tonne in 2018.
 The outbound shipment of instant coffee fell to 27,339 tonne in 2019 from 29,146 tonne in the previous year, the data showed.
 Of the total coffee exports, India exported 72,267 tonne to Italy, 37,175 tonne to Germany and 28,573 tonne to Russia last year.
 Some of the major exporting companies include CCL Products India, Tata Coffee, NKG India Coffee, Allanasons Pvt Ltd, Olam Agro and Coffee Day Global Ltd.
 Coffee production is estimated to be slightly higher at 3,19,500 tonne for the 2018-19 crop year (October-September), as per the post monsoon forecast by the Board. LUX ANU

New Delhi, Dec 19 () Shares of various Tata Group companies remained under pressure on Thursday as well, falling up to 2 per cent in morning trade, after the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) restored Cyrus Mistry as Tata Sons Chairman.
 Tata Power Company fell 1.62 per cent, Tata Coffee declined 1.52 per cent, Tata Metaliks dipped 1.60 per cent, Tata Steel 1.46 per cent and Tata Communications 1.23 per cent on the BSE in early trade.
 The scrip of Tata Global Beverages fell 0.89 per cent, Indian Hotels Company slipped 0.62 per cent, Titan Company 0.46 per cent, Tata Motors 0.37, Tata Investment Corporation 0.14 per cent and Tata Consultancy Services stock fell 0.10 per cent.
 However, later some of these scrips such as Tata Motors and TCS bounced back and were trading with gains.
 Various group scrips had fallen up to 4 per cent in the previous trade after the order.
 In a big win for Cyrus Mistry, a company law appeals court on Wednesday restored him as executive chairman of Tata Sons and ruled that appointment of N Chandrasekaran as head of the holding company of over USD 110 billion salt-to-software conglomerate was illegal.

 Mistry, scion of the wealthy Shapoorji Pallonji family, had in December 2012 succeeded Ratan Tata as the Executive Chairman of Tata Sons, a post that also made him the head of all Tata group listed firms such as Tata Power and Tata Motors. 
 In an overnight coup, he was removed as the Chairman of Tata Sons in October 2016. Along with him, the entire senior management too was purged and Ratan Tata was back at the helms of affairs four years after he took retirement. SUM ANS

Tata Group stocks remain under pressure after NCLAT order

New Delhi, Dec 19 () Shares of various Tata group companies on Thursday bounced back to close with gains of up to 3 per cent a day after an NCLAT ruling that reinstated Cyrus Mistry as chairman of main group holding company Tata Sons sent the stocks down.
 Various group companies remained under pressure till morning trade, falling by up to 2 per cent.
 However, buying emerged towards the close of trade and most of these companies settled the day with gains. 
Among the gainers, Tata Consultancy Services climbed 2.83 per cent, Tata Motors jumped 2.55 per cent, Tata Coffee rose 0.98 per cent, Tata Global Beverages 0.67 per cent, Tata Steel 0.48 per cent, Tata Metaliks gained marginally 0.17 per cent, Titan Company 0.07 per cent and Tata Communications 0.01 per cent on the BSE. 
 In contrast, Indian Hotels Company fell 2.03 per cent, Tata Elxsi went lower by 1.40 per cent and Tata Investment Corporation declined 0.43 per cent.
