Hotstar too set aside at least ₹120 crore to make seven originals across languages. India’s homegrown platform Zee5 however is playing the numbers game. “Zee5 has already invested in over 100 originals till date. But we believe that there’s a lot of room for regional content in this country. There are many stories to be told. Zee5 will do about 70-80 originals this coming year,” Zee5 CEO Tarun Katial told Business Insider India in an interview. It has already roped in Bollywood actors l<a href="http://telegraphindia.com/entertainment/karisma-kapoor-makes-her-digital-debut-with-altbalaji-and-zee5s-web-series-mentalhood-about-motherhood/cid/1749151">ike Karisma Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Arjun Rampal, Shruti Seth and TV actor Arjun Bijlani to star in upcoming shows like Mentalhood, Kaafir and Final Call. </a> Zee5 wants to capture millennials and other audiences who don’t watch TV but exclusively depend on streaming services for entertainment. Original shows and exclusive movies In addition to original shows, it is planning <a href="http://financialexpress.com/brandwagon/tarun-katial-on-why-zee5-is-more-than-a-video-streaming-app/1874856/">to produce 30-40 movies</a> across languages which will be exclusively streamed on the platform. Katial says that Zee5 wants to be a ‘super app’ for entertainment. At present, Zee5 has over 1,153 shows with 70 originals and 3,147 movies on its platforms. It also live streams all its 45 channels just like Hotstar. Zee5 expects this strategy to bring in more subscribers. It expects to have 15 million daily active users and 100 million monthly users by March. It had around 8 million daily active users in December, and has been operational for two years. OTT platform is not overcrowded, says Katiyal In spite of the presence of many more platforms like SunNxt, Voot, SonyLiv and many more, Katiyal believes that the Indian OTT market isn’t overcrowded. “While there are a lot of OTT platforms in India, it finally comes down to those OTT players who have enough content to play this out,” he said. A large base of content can be provided by platforms that have been in the television business. “Broadcasters eventually have a meaningful edge in this business because of their ability to reuse their content and their legacy of having built years and years of content is far better than anybody else,” he said. Going Global With strong roots in regional content, Zee5 is all set to take its battle with Netflix, Prime Videos in the international markets as well. In fact, they are using the same success mantra — local content to local audiences. Zee5 plans to release 80 original shows this year across Indian languages

New Delhi, Jan 28 () Content streaming platform Zee5 on Tuesday said it has partnered with edu-tech startup Eduauraa to offer educational content to users through its platform.
As part of the partnership, users buying one-year subscription of Zee5 before March 31, 2020 will get access to six months of free content from Eduauraa.
"Our larger vision at Zee5 is to build a large repository of purposeful content across genres. With Eduauraa on board, we will be able to address the educational needs to young students across the country," Zee5 India CEO Tarun Katial told reporters here.
He added apart from education, the company is looking at other areas as well to strengthen the offerings on the platform.
Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', who was present at the event, said digital transformation of education will provide easy access to content and democratise education for masses.
"It should be our endeavour to see more innovation in the learning ecosystem that will allow each child to discover his strengths and abilities and fulfil his dreams in a digital world," he added.
Eduauraa founder and CEO Akanksha Chaturvedi said the company provides educational content in Hindi and English for students of class 6-12 across CBSE, ICSE and seven state boards.
"Concept-based learning as per Board syllabus will be delivered through interactive video lectures. Students will also get access to e-books and practice test papers," she added.
The company has about 100 employees and a team of 35 teachers to manage content. KRH SR BAL

Zee5 partners Eduauraa to offer educational content

<ul><li>Zee5, one of the biggest streaming players in the Indian market, plans on diversifying its subscription plans based on languages and introduce weekly options. </li><li>Tarun Katial, CEO of Zee5, believes this will not only meet the demand for regional content for users but also for advertisers who have thus far been unsuccessful in reaching out to Tier-II and Tier-III markets. </li><li>Zee 5 has also proposed introducing mobile only plans that will be 30% cheaper than other subscriptions. </li></ul>Just last week, Netflix was reported testing a new mobile-only weekly subscription plan price at ₹65 in India. And now, a local video on demand service, Zee5, is also bringing in weekly plans for users and adding the facet of language specific subscriptions. In the coming year, Zee5 has plans to launch as many as 72 new originals, including 60 shows and 12 movies. Amazon Prime, Netflix face a new threat of language specific subscriptions from a local streaming player in India

<ul><li><keyword id="4241922" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ALTBalaji">ALTBalaji</keyword>, from the home of Indian television queen Ekta Kapoor, and Zee’s OTT platform <keyword id="6245082" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ZEE5">Zee5</keyword> have announced a content partnership. </li><li>With the partnership, the two platforms will co-create content for users. </li><li>This comes at a time when both Netflix and <keyword id="758541" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-Prime">Amazon Prime</keyword> are encouraging more and more Indian content on their platforms.</li></ul>Homegrown <keyword id="5293670" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="OTT-platforms">OTT platforms</keyword> ALTBalaji and Zee5 have teamed up to co-create content which will be available for streaming on both platforms. As per the agreement, they will co-create over 60 original Hindi series. ALTBalaji and Zee5 are backed by large media companies – ALTBalaji is the web initiative of soap opera queen Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms. And, Zee5 is the OTT platform of Subash Chandra owned Zee Group, which has over 45 channels across languages in India.
