Gujarat saw yet another highest spike of Covid-19 cases as 735 were detected on Monday, taking its tally to 36,858, while the <keyword id="6397442" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Death-toll">death toll</keyword> has reached 1,962. It has not even been a week into July, but the state has posted an average of around 700 cases daily to register 4,215 cases already. Surat, with 241 cases or roughly a third of the total, has now emerged as the new hotspot for Corona in the state and Ahmedabad's positive cases - 183 on Monday - are on the declining trend. Ahmedabad was followed by Vadodara with 65, Bhavnagar with 35, Banaskantha with 24, Rajkot with 21, Bharuch with 18, Gandhinagar with 17, Junagadh with 15, Valsad with 13, Mehsana with 12, Kutch with 11, Panchmahals, Sabarkantha and Navsari with eight each, Jamnagar and Amreli with seven each, Surendranagar and Dahod with five each, Morbi and Tapi with four each, Patan and Chotta Udepur with three each, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir-Somnath with two each and Anand with one. There were 17 deaths on Monday with Ahmedabad accounting for seven, Surat for six, while two died in Aravalli and one each in Banaskantha and Kheda. Of the total deaths, 1,494 have occurred in Ahmedabad, 189 have died in Surat, 53 in Vadodara, 32 in Gandhinagar, 20 in Aravalli, 17 in Patan, 16 in Panchmahals, 13 deaths each in Bhavnagar, Anand and Mehsana, 12 each in Rajkot, Kheda and Banaskantha and 10 in Bharuch. Gujarat, at 5.32 per cent, has one of the highest mortality rate for corona in the country. On Monday, the health authorities carried out highest number of RT-PCR tests, at 6,340, taking the total to 4,18,464. A total of 423 <keyword id="6364395" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="patients">patients</keyword> were discharged on Monday. and with this, the total has reached 26,323. The state has 8,573 active cases, out of which the condition of 8,504 is stable, and 69 critical patients are still on ventilator. There are 2,72,664 people quarantined in the state - 2,69,581 at home and 3,083 in government facilities. Surat emerges as second largest coronavirus hotspot  in Gujarat

(Eds: Adding details)Ahmedabad, Apr 21 () The number of coronaviruscases in Gujarat crossed the 2,000-mark and rose to 2,066after 127 more people tested positive for the disease onTuesday, a health official said.Six more deaths were also reported in the state,taking the toll to 77, principal secretary (health) JayantiRavi said.Out of the 127 new cases, 50 were reported fromAhmedabad, taking the district's tally to 1,298. COVID-19 cases in Gujarat cross 2,000, death toll reaches 77

(Eds: Adding details) Ahmedabad, Oct 4 () Gujarat on Sunday reported 1,302 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,42,700 in the state, the health department said. With nine more people, including four in Surat, succumbing to the infection, the death toll mounted to 3,499, it said. While three people died in Ahmedabad, one fatality each was reported from Rajkot and Vadodara, it said. At the same time, 1,246 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recoveries in the state to 1,22,365, the department said in a release. Gujarat's recovery rate now stands at 85.75 per cent, it said. At 283, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad which added 191 new infections. More than 100 new cases were reported from Rajkot (152) and Vadodara (133), the department said. Elsewhere in the state, Jamnagar reported 92 new cases, Gandhinagar 60, Mehsana 53, Junagadh 33, Bhavnagar 31, and Amreli 27. Bharuch, Patan and Surendranagar added 22 infections each, while Kutch reported 19 cases, Panchmahal 18, Tapi 17, and Morbi 14. Eight out of these 13 patients suffered fromco-morbid conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, liverdisease and mental illness, Ravi said.The death toll is now 103, with Ahmedabad accountingfor 62 deaths, followed by Surat at 12 and Vadodara at 10. Ravi said 41 per cent of patients who died in thestate are in the age group of 41-60 years, 48 per cent areabove 60 years.Only 14 per cent of deceased patients had no co-morbidcondition, she said.
