If all goes well, you can experience better streaming than ever before, according to a PTI news report. Isro is undertaking a mega experiment at India's rocket port at <keyword id="6355143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sriharikota">Sriharikota</keyword>: a spanking new monster rocket is all set to launch an altogether new class of communications <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Satellite">satellite</keyword>. <keyword id="2735444" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tapan-Misra">Tapan Misra</keyword>, director of the Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, where the GSAT-19 satellite has been designed, calls it "a game changer communications satellite for India". If it succeeds, the single GSAT-19 satellite will be equivalent to having a constellation of 6-7 of the older variety of communication satellites in space. Today, out of a constellation of 41 in-orbit Indian satellites, 13 are communication satellites. "A truly 'made in India' satellite that will empower a digital India that is in the making," says Misra of GSAT-19. India's heaviest rocket till date, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark-III (<keyword id="138322" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="GSLV">GSLV</keyword> Mk-III) that weighs equivalent to the weight of five fully-loaded <keyword id="6357957" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boeing">Boeing</keyword> Jumbo Jets or as much as 200 fully grown elephants is attracting all the attention. This is India's rocket of the future as it will undoubtedly be human rated to carry Indian astronauts likely to be named 'gaganauts or vyomanauts'. Former Isro chairman <keyword id="138287" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="K-Kasturirangan">K Kasturirangan</keyword>, the man who conceived the GSLV Mk-III, confirms it will be India's vehicle to ferry Indians into space. On this maiden mission, the GSAT-19 satellite this monster rocket will ferry is in a technological class that has no parallels in the country. The satellite weighing 3,136 kg is equal to the weight of a single elephant being lofted into space, but this novel satellite promises not to be a 'white elephant in space'. As space experts say rockets are like taxis, it is the passenger who is more important and hence in this forthcoming launch even though all eyes are on the GSLV Mk-III, the real focus should be on the unique passenger which is as Misra emphasises "the country's first satellite capable of providing internet services using a space-based platform". Internet services may not be unleashed immediately but what the country is putting together is a capability in place which is very important especially to connect places that are literally off the fibre optic Internet backbone. At over 3 tons, the GSAT-19 satellite will be the heaviest satellite made and to be launched from India and is a voluminous animal. Misra says "by volume it is the most enormous satellite made by India". The satellite is indeed a test bed for many new technologies.

Instead India will be having its own GPS system. 'NavIC' will be operational early 2018. "The Indian Regional Navigation <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Satellite">Satellite</keyword> System (IRNSS) with an operational name of NavIC is currently being tested for its accuracy and is most likely to be available in the market for public use early next year," Tapan <keyword id="121202" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Misra">Misra</keyword>, the director of Ahmedabad-based Space Application Centre (SAC) told TOI. NavIC or 'Navigation with Indian Constellation' the name given by PM <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> after the launch of IRNSS-1G, is designed to provide accurate position information to users within the country. “Though American GPS with 24 satellites in a constellation has wider reach and covers the entire world, NavIC with seven satellites covers only India and its surroundings but is more accurate than the American system. NavIC will provide standard positioning service to all users with a position accuracy of 5 metre. The GPS, on the other hand, has a position accuracy of 20-30 metre," the SAC director TOI. The less the distance more is the accuracy of the navigation device in finding the real location.

India to have its own GPS system from 2018

Chennai, June 5 (IANS) The sum of the turnover of Indian space agency's various divisions if spun off into different business entities will surpass that of its behemoth parent owing to focused leadership and innovation, said a senior official of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He said the best of the efforts in innovation in such a large industry, the conversion in product outputs are meagre to the extent of 5 to 10 per cent. "If ISRO is restructured in terms of smaller single focus business entities like payload, satellite, rocket engine production, launcher integration and launch services, tracking and satellite maintenance services, the sum of turnovers of these individual entities will surpass substantially in comparison to the same by the ISRO behemoth," said Tapan Misra, Senior Advisor, ISRO and former Director, Space Applications Centre, ISRO. "The reason for improvement will be the encouragement of innovation by single focus leaderships. Many mammoth MNCs like Google, Microsoft, Space X, Boeing and many others co-opt or fund or usurp innovative startups to create and absorb innovations. In India to reach this level, we may have to wait a few more years," Misra said. He said every industry will come to a saturation point in terms of product output and even an increase in input resource-capital and manpower, there will be hardly any increase in output beyond saturation point. "Innovation in business processes or manufacturing methods and strategies can improve efficiency. It means the saturation point can be achieved with lesser input resources. On the other hand, innovation on simplification of product design or bringing in more productive capital goods, i.e., the more efficient machinery to manufacture the products will raise the saturation output at same or lesser resources," Misra said. Behemoths like ISRO with multiple focus points will be resistant to innovations owing to inertia and occupation of leaders' mind, to run the behemoth industry itself in the present avatar, he added. Pointing out technology will become stagnant and innovations discouraged in the absence of competition, Misra said that monopoly does not incentivise emergence of capable, forward looking and risk taking innovative leadership. According to him, many of the monopolies were established, with sagacious minds as leaders, with an aim to bring the country in the front line of strategic sectors. "Unfortunately, many wise men prefer less competent subordinates and successors in order to satisfy their desire of stranglehold in the organisation when in service and out of service. This leads to gradual degradation of the leadership quality with successive transitions, leading to stagnation in technology and services," he said. Market forces can play a role in promoting effective leadership as the profit and expansion are the prime motivation. ISRO’s EOS-01 is capable of military surveillance The objective of the RISAT mission, which includes the EOS-01, is to use its Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for all-weather as well as day-and-night observations. This means that it can peer through cloud cover even when there’s bad weather afoot. The data collected by India’s newest satellite will mostly be used for agriculture, forestry and disaster management support. However, the technology of the RISAT satellites was augmented after the Mumbai terror attacks of 26/11. Therefore, while EOS-01 is not a dedicated military satellite, it is capable of imaging any area across India in great detail — including its borders. This gains significance with India locked in a standoff against China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh. And, India is no stranger to using satellite imagery. The CAROSAT series of satellites are the most capable of military applications amongst ISRO’s arsenal. Images from these satellites were used to plan the surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) in 2016. The name game around EOS-01 You may not have heard of EOS-01 before 2020 because it used to have a different name. EOS-01 used to be touted as the RISAT 2BR2 satellite, the third in ISRO’s line up of radar imaging image satellites — the RISAT 2B series. However, the name was changed by ISRO ahead of the launch. According to officials, it was because the space agency wanted a more ‘generic’ name. The name-game extends further back. Initially, the RISAT 2BR2 satellite was supposed to be called ‘Sanjay’ after Sanjaya in the Indian epic Mahabharata. “However, the idea was shot down,” Senior Advisor to ISRO, Tapan Misra, told the IANS. India's re-named earth observation satellite to launch tomorrow — and it's capable of military surveillance

In a bid to monitor air pollutants and aerosols in the air of polluting Indian cities, a nano-satellite mission is underway. 
 For this, <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword>’s Space Applications Centre (SAC) and Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) of University of Toronto's Institute for Aerospace Studies are collaborating to develop the Next Generation Earth Monitoring and Observation and Aerosol Monitoring (NEMO-AM) satellite. 
 
The nano-satellite, which is among ISRO’s important missions, will monitor air pollutants that pollute cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Amritsar and Allahabad. 
 
The nano-satellite will weigh 15kg and placed 500 km above the earth. 
 
SAC director Tapan Misra told ET the mission is designed to cover, each day, up to 50,000 sq km area of the country's 32.87 lakh sq km.
