<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Honda</a> is recalling 41,580 vehicles in India so as to replace faulty front passenger airbag inflators and this is the company’s fourth recall in two years. 
 The initiative is the part of Japanese automaker’s preventive global recall campaign which relates to defective air bag inflators supplied by <keyword id="1716499" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Takata-Corporation">Takata Corporation</keyword> and has affected at least 7 million cars worldwide. 
 
The company has said that it will voluntarily replace passenger front airbag inflators in previous generation models of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+City&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">City</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+Jazz&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Jazz</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+Accord&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Accord</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+Civic&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Civic</a> manufactured during the year 2012. 
 The recall has 7,265 units of premium hatchback <keyword id="8070" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jazz">Jazz</keyword>, 32,456 units of mid-size sedan City, 659 units of premium sedan <keyword id="25787" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Accord">Accord</keyword> and 1,200 units of <keyword id="47876" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Civic">Civic</keyword>. 
 The replacement will be carried out free of cost at <keyword id="1381889" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda-Cars-India">Honda Cars India</keyword> (HCIL) dealerships across India. 
 "The replacement of inflators for the affected models would begin immediately and the company will communicate with customers directly", <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> Cars India said in a statement. 
 However, in India, there are no guidelines for recall but as per industry body <keyword id="82374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Society-of-Indian-Automobile-Manufacturers">Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers</keyword> (SIAM), auto makers in India have recalled over two million vehicles since the voluntary recall policy was announced in July 2012.

The Federal Government announced Tuesday that it's calling for a nationwide recall of millions of cars due to potentially faulty airbags produced by auto parts giant Takata corporation.
As many as 16.8 million cars around the world are reportedly affected by the recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said, " its latest decision is based on the agency's evaluation of a recent driver's side air bag failure in a vehicle outside the current regional recall area and its relationship to five previous driver's side air bag ruptures, all of which are covered by existing regional recalls." 
The recall stems from a series of incidents dating as far back as 2002 where Takata-built airbags have deployed with such excessive force that portions of the the airbag's housing blow loose and shower the car's occupants with shrapnel.
As <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/21/business/it-looked-like-a-stabbing-but-takata-air-bag-was-the-killer.html" target="_blank">many five deaths </a>and nearly 140 injuries have been attributed to Takata's airbags. 
NHTSA is also calling for Takata, along with 10 car makers including BMW, Ford, Honda, Toyota, General Motors, Chrysler, Mazda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Subaru to submit detailed reports under oath on its planned and ongoing airbag testing outside of the current recall areas. Federal regulators are also calling for Takata and the automakers to submit reports on Takata's changes to its airbag propellants.
"We now know that millions of vehicles must be recalled to address defective Takata air bags and our aggressive investigation is far from over," said NHTSA Deputy Administrator David Friedman. "We're pushing Takata and all affected manufacturers to issue the recall and to ensure the recalls capture the full scope of the problems."
This latest expansion of the recall will only further compound Takata's already struggling share prices which is down more than 50% from its 52-week high.
