It was an easy decision: Apple's iPhone excelled at all the phone jobs I needed, from good pictures to running dozens of apps to lasting a busy workday.The $999 iPhone X I bought also felt groundbreaking at the time: The nearly edge-to-edge screen was a joy to use, and Face ID made it easy to log in and authenticate digital payments.In the years since, my screen time has shot up. I do everything on my phone: reading books, catching up on TV shows, doing the daily crossword. I was spending more time on my handheld than on my computer. And it was all giving me a headache, possibly worsening my myopia. The iPhone's screen size was too limiting for the smartphone's evolving role in my life.<h2 id="e5ecc015-7fe8-4ef1-85c5-0dcb4b8d8783">Apple upgrades were uninspiring </h2>My iPhone's cameras and performance improved with upgrades. I appreciate the iPhone 13's better photography system and the iPhone 15's universal USB-C port. But the model I own today is fundamentally the same device I used years ago. Such a lack of differentiation made me less inclined to invest another $1,000 to upgrade my iPhone, which I tend to do every two years.I had a Kindle and an iPad but couldn't carry them everywhere. Switching back and forth between devices was a chore, and I often ended up doing what I'd reserved the iPad for on my iPhone.I also considered the "max" iPhone, but it just seemed like an uncomfortably large screen without offering much in return. Apple's mobile software didn't have any special features for larger displays.<h2 id="ba359e63-6ae3-4c01-8894-d04d86b2c3cb">I was intrigued by foldable smartphones</h2><div type="image" title="iPhone 15 compared to the Honor Magic V3" height="2548" width="3395" msid="114583512" hostid="261" sizebytes="211792"></div>Unsurprisingly, I was tempted by phone makers' advancements with folding displays. A typical handheld folds out to reveal a tablet-sized screen. As someone who writes about phones for a living, I got to try a few, but the tech a couple of years ago wasn't convincing enough to replace my iPhone. Their designs were too thick, fragile, and heavy. That is until earlier this year, when Apple decided it wouldn't bring its latest AI features to its one-year-old iPhone 15 models, forcing me to look for alternatives. Honor, a China-based phone brand, released its Magic V3, the thinnest and lightest foldable phone on the market. Here's why I bought it, despite its astronomical <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.honor.com/uk/phones/honor-magic-v3/buy/?srsltid=AfmBOorLiqaY1v1P2O-KLIeGLobxGdd6Cy0g5G6Ixvsae9ARlCSPLbEJ">£1,699 price tag</a>, around $2,205 — more than double what I paid for my iPhone 15 in 2023.<h2 id="d0df618b-0b66-4623-9f84-8f4b0d620899">The thinness of the model sold me </h2>While it was over £500 more than what I had paid for a new phone in the past, the amount of time I now spend on my phone justified the investment. This phone is "book-style," unfolding horizontally like a book. It's not officially available in the US yet, but in Europe and the UK, it's sold in Three and Vodafone stores, in addition to the official Honor website. Honor has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.canalys.com/newsroom/europe-smartphone-market-Q1-2024">doubled</a> its market share in Europe this year.The thinness of the model sold me. I could take advantage of its folding form factor without compromising on ergonomics.Even with its two screen halves folded, it's 9.3mm thick — far slimmer than other foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 at 12.1mm, and nearly the same as a traditional top-of-the-line phone, on average 8.4mm. Unfolded, the Magic V3 is 4.4mm thin, half the width of the latest iPhone 16. <div type="image" title="iPhone 13 Pro and the Honor Magic V3" height="2599" width="3110" msid="114583516" hostid="261" sizebytes="202092"></div>As with any other smartphone, the Honor Magic V3 has a tall 6.43-inch screen that dominates the front. This screen suffices for most tasks, like calling someone or responding to texts. But when I want extra room for reading an article or streaming Netflix, I can fold it out like a book to a wide 8-inch inner display. Whatever app or content I was browsing on the outer screen automatically expands to fill the extended space.The folding panel is crease-less. The company's Android-based software makes it possible to leverage the larger screen. If I'm researching for a vacation, I can stick my notes on one side and a web browser on another and work on them side-by-side.I can multitask like I would on my desktop computer or iPad. It even turns into a mini laptop, with the bottom screen working as a large touch keyboard.<h2 id="6b405e8c-37e3-4b71-b733-1095313e9cb1">It's eliminated my need for multiple devices</h2>It wasn't difficult to migrate my data onto an Android, and now iMessage is supported, I wasn't missing out on messaging capabilities. I was already using Google Photos to back up my mediaAfter a couple of weeks, the Magic V3 even replaced my Kindle. The phone has an e-book mode with eye-friendly tools, and a Do Not Disturb mode so I can disconnect from notifications while reading. Its inner screen is better for reading books, and the dedicated e-book mode applies a monochrome filter throughout the software. It even minimizes flickers, mitigating headaches caused by prolonged blue-light consumption.The Honor Magic V3 is the first of many folding phones that challenge the smartphone status quo and could win. It's not free of flaws yet. I'm concerned about the phone's long-term durability, given it packs far more moving parts than an average phone. While it is the slimmest foldable, it's still slightly more cumbersome than a typical smartphone for most users and their pockets. But since it replaces three devices, I've found the effort worth the trouble. As someone who struggled to justify carrying multiple screens for different purposes, I recommend consolidating them into one.

I was a loyal iPhone user but switched to a foldable smartphone not yet available in the US. It was worth it — even at double the price.

This 2 wheeler stock hits 52-week high on strong Q4, analysts bullish on prospects

It reported a 37% YoY rise in standalone net profit to ₹859 crore in Q4, aided by price hikes, cost cutting and improved product mix. The company posted a 17% growth in its FY23 net profit, which rose to ₹2,911 crore. TVS’ operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin grew marginally at 10.3% in Q4 as against 10.1% during Q4 of last year. For the financial year ended 2023, net profit grew 67% to ₹1,491 crore as compared to ₹894 crore in last fiscal. Hollywood has a big problem with how people are watching TV these days

<ul><li>Tata Motors reported a 4% fall in total domestic sales in April as compared to the same period last year.</li><li>Hero MotoCorp announced a dip of 5% in its total wholesales as it sold 3.96 lakh units in April against 4.18 lakh units last year.</li><li>Maruti Suzuki reported a growth of 6.5% in passenger vehicles, while TVS Motor announced a 4% rise in sales to 3.06 lakh units in April.</li></ul>Shares of automobile companies remained in focus on Tuesday after the April sales data of Tata Motors and Hero MotoCorp disappointed the street. At the same time, Maruti Suzuki, TVS Motor and Eicher Motor reported healthy growth in sales. Tata Motors reported a 4% fall in total domestic sales to 68,514 units in April as compared to 71,467 units during the same period last year. Total commercial vehicle sales of the automaker also dipped 27% to 22,492 units in April from 30,838 units last year. Also, its total wholesales declined 4% to 69,599 units as compared to 72,468 units last year. Following the weak sales, shares of Tata Motors fell more than 2% on Tuesday. Two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp also reported a dip of 5% in its total wholesales — as it sold 3.96 lakh units in April against 4.18 lakh units last year. Shares of Hero MotoCorp were down more than 2%. Domestic sales for the two wheeler maker declined marginally to 3.86 lakh units in April 2023 from 3.98 lakh units in April 2022. But its exports slumped over 50% to 9,923 units from 20,132 units last year. The company said it expects the momentum to build up in the coming months on account of a combination of multiple factors, including a slew of new product launches, a healthy growth in the country's GDP and positive consumer sentiment. Maruti Suzuki, TVS Motor, Eicher Motors shine India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki announced a good sales growth of 6.5% in passenger vehicles to 1.6 lakh units in April as compared to 1.5 lakh during the same period last year. It registered a 7% increase in total dispatches to dealers at 1.6 lakh in April. Its total sales including domestic and exports rose to 1.6 lakh units from 1.5 lakh units last year. As a result, shares of Maruti Suzuki gained 2.15% to ₹8,771. The automaker’s total domestic sales including PV, LCV and OEM stood at 1.43 lakh units as compared to 1.32 lakh units last year. Maruti Suzuki highlighted that it has been facing a shortage of electronic components while it has taken all possible measures to minimise the impact. Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company announced a 4% rise in sales at 3.06 lakh units in April 2023 from 2.95 lakh units in the same month, last year. TVS’ two-wheeler segment delivered a sales growth of 5% to 2.94 lakh units from 2.8 lakh units during the same period last year. Motorcycle volumes rose 10% to 1.52 lakh units from 1.39 lakh units. Scooter sales grew 5% to 1.07 lakh units from 1.02 lakh units last year. Reacting to the April sales numbers, shares of TVS rose 1.55% to ₹1,156 per share. Its electric vehicle, the iQube, reached a sales milestone of 1 lakh units. “The production for April 2023 was constrained due to AIS156 changeover and supply chain challenges, TVS Motor is confident of ramping up from the month of May 2023. The order book for TVS iQube continues to be very robust and TVS Motor will retain the growth momentum,” said the company in an exchange filing. At the same time, Eicher Motors reported a 18% on year jump in sales volumes of Royal Enfield motorcycles at 73,136 units against 62,155 units last year. Meanwhile, the international business of the company declined 49% to 4,255 units that were exported in April 2023 as against 8,303 units in April 2022. The models with engine capacity up to 350cc recorded 26% sales growth at 64,728 units as against 51,564 units in April 2022. Meanwhile, the sales of models with engine capacity exceeding 350cc dropped 21% to 8,408 units sold against 10,591 units in the same period last year. Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp stocks slip after April sales disappoint; Maruti Suzuki, TVS Motor, Eicher Motors rise

<keyword id="19938730" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVS-Motor" source="keywords">TVS Motor</keyword> Company on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit increased 6 per cent to Rs 461 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2024, riding on the back of robust sales. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 434 crore in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. Total income rose to Rs 10,448 crore for the period under review as compared to Rs 9,142 crore in the year-ago period, TVS Motor Company said in a regulatory filing. On a standalone basis, the company posted a profit after tax of Rs 577 crore for the first quarter as compared to Rs 468 crore in the June quarter of the last fiscal, it added. Total income rose to Rs 8,412 crore for the first quarter as against Rs 7,275 crore in the year-ago period. The company said its overall two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales including exports grew 14 per cent year-on-year, registering sales of 10.87 lakh units in the quarter ended June 2024 as against 9.53 lakh units registered in the quarter ended June 2023. Motorcycle sales grew by 11 per cent year on year at 5.14 lakh units in the first quarter as against 4.63 lakh units in the same period last fiscal. Scooter sales grew by 19 per cent year-on-year to 4.18 lakh units in the April-June quarter this year. Three-wheeler sales for the quarter under review stood at 31,000 units as against 35,000 units in the year-ago period, TVS said. Electric scooter sales for the quarter ended June 30, 2024, stood at 52,000 units as compared to 39,000 units in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. Shares of TVS Motor Company on Tuesday ended 0.75 per cent down at Rs 2,474.45 apiece on the BSE. After all, who wouldn’t want to enjoy their favourite titles on a flight or any location imaginable. Ever since the PSP, there has sadly been no other portable console from PlayStation and players have been asking for one for a long time. And after being announced in August 2023, it has been launched in India today. <h2>PlayStation Portal comes to India: Price and availability</h2>The PlayStation Portal has now launched in India and will be available across Sony Centres, Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance, Vijay Sales, Blinkit and other participating retailers. The handheld gaming device will be available from August 3 and will cost Rs 18,990. <h2>About the PlayStation Portal</h2>With the use of this handheld, you can play the games installed on your <keyword id="20158404" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PS5" source="keywords">PS5</keyword> over your home Wi-Fi without the need of a monitor or TV. Think of it as an extension of your PlayStation, enabling you to play games conveniently. Since the device needs to be on the same Wi-Fi connection as your PS5, you need to remember that you can only play games in your home, or till wherever your home Wi-Fi range goes. Hence, even though this isn’t a fully remote device, it still offers players additional flexibility. The PlayStation Portal is equipped with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in supported games. However, not all games are compatible with the device. The device comes with a 8-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution and up to 60 FPS. On either sides of the device are controllers identical to the PS5's <keyword id="20960214" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DualSense-controllers" source="keywords">DualSense controllers</keyword>. Sony had announced the device’s launch via a blog post last year.
