Trade bodies of <keyword id="2981720" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana-State-Road-Transport-Corporation">Telangana State Road Transport Corporation</keyword> (TSRTC) will challenge the state government's decision to sack about 48,000 agitating employees, as and when they are served with dismissal or suspension notices, a union leader said here on Monday. <keyword id="68884" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword> Mazdoor Union president E Ashwathama Reddy, however, clarified that the agitating workers have not received any dismissal or suspension notice from the government or the management of RTC. ".. There are laws in this country. We have been appointed as per rules. They cannot remove us just like that," Reddy told PTI. "There are courts. We will approach courts if necessary," he said. His statement comes a day after the state government declared the indefinite strike as "illegal" and rejected their demands for a merger with it. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had on Sunday said employees who did not join duty before the deadline (6 pm on Saturday) set by the government would not be taken back. "As it is there are less than 1,200 employees in the RTC," he had said indicating that those who have not reported for duty before the deadline, would be losing their jobs. Different employees' and workers' unions of the TSRTC began an indefinite strike on Friday midnight across Telangana on a call given by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the corporation, demanding merger of the RTC with the government and recruitment to various posts, among other things. The stir by nearly 50,000 staff entered the third day on Monday with TSRTC buses staying off the roads hampering travel plans of thousands of people during the festive season. The chief minister had directed concerned officials to hire 2,500 private buses to make up for the shortfall of public transport. He also ordered that normal RTC operations be restored in 15 days. New employees should be hired soon and they should give an undertaking that they would not join any trade unions, he added. The Telangana High Court had directed the state government to file a report on October 10 about the arrangements made. It also ordered to serve notices on two RTC unions.

Delayed salaries and job cuts The worst-affected of all government employees are the 176,000 at telecom operator BSNL. In the last few months, the debt-ridden company has been paying salaries two weeks late. While the government is still mulling a bailout package, the employees are left in doldrums. Wage revisions are too little, too late As many wonder about the state of their employment, others are annoyed with delayed wage revisions. As many as 20,000 workers and a few officers of Bangalore-headquartered Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) are protesting against low salary hikes. The company dismissed their demand for higher wage revision saying, "workmen cannot be at par with officers on salaries and perks.” “We hope this realization will percolate to the employees sooner to make them call off their indefinite strike," HAL Chief Financial Officer C B Ananthakrishnan told IANS. Employees of public sector banks — which employs nearly 800,000 people — also seem to be unhappy with the<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/careers/news/salary-hikes-at-government-banks-ahead-of-diwali/articleshow/71473853.cms"> wage revision</a> as the bankers association decided to offer one month extra salary without reaching a consensus with the bank unions. Widespread protests against the 'Agnipath' scheme for the recruitment of armed forces have spread to several districts in Uttar Pradesh. Bulandshahr, Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Varanasi, Unnao, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Rae Bareli and Ballia are among the districts that have witnessed protests, with youth demanding the scheme's withdrawal. In several districts, the police had to resort to lathi charge and fire teargas shells to disperse the mob. In Bulandshahr, protesters blocked the busy GT Road. "We strongly oppose the new recruitment scheme. We want the old recruitment scheme back," one of the protesters said. Bulandshahr Superintendent of Police, Shlok Kumar said: "Some youngsters gathered to stage a protest in the morning. They later called it off on the assurance given by police officials." Ballia was the worst affected district since protesters set bogies of the Sealdah Express on fire, vandalised railway property and then attacked shops and kiosks outside the station. Job aspirants pelted stones at a government bus in Agra, triggering deployment of additional police personnel to control the situation. In Firozabad, protesters vandalised roadways buses. Youth also gathered along the Agra-Delhi highway, seeking the revival of the old recruitment policy in the armed forces. Traffic was blocked for several hours on this route. Agra Senior Superintendent of Police, Sudhir Kumar Singh, said: "A large number of students come to Agra to prepare for exams through coaching centres. These job aspirants reached here and blocked the road." In Rae Bareli and Gonda, the protesters raised slogans and blocked traffic. However, the Defence Minister's comment comes amid the protests against the Agnipath scheme which started in Bihar and has spread to several states. The protests against Agnipath continued for the third day in seven states, including the national capital. "Agnipath is a golden opportunity for the youth to join the defence system and serve the country. As the recruitment was stalled for the last two years, many were deprived of the opportunity to join the army," Singh tweeted. "Therefore, keeping in mind the future of the youth, on the instructions of the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, the government has increased the age limit for the recruitment of Agniveers from 21 years to 23 years this time. This one time relaxation has been given. This will entitle a lot of youth to become Agniveers," said the Defence minister in a subsequent tweet. "I heartily thank the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi for his concern and sensitivity towards the future of the youth. I appeal to the youth that the process of recruitment in the army is going to start in few days. They must start their preparation for it," Rajnath Singh tweeted. Considering the widespread protests, the government on Thursday allowed a one-time age waiver for the scheme considering that recruitment was stalled for the last two years. The situation continued to be tense as a large number of protesters remained in the station and on the tracks. The protesters were pelting stones on police while the latter were retaliating with firing of rubber bullets and teargas shells. The Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police and city police were trying to bring the situation under control. Additional forces were rushed to the area which resembled a battle zone. Authorities have cancelled all the trains. With the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses also being targeted outside the station, the corporation suspended bus services in the area. Violence rocked the railway station here as hundreds of youth went on a rampage, setting afire East Coast Express. Passengers ran for their safety. Several bogies were gutted. Raising slogans against the Central government, the protesters also torched bogies of another train on the station, stalls, display boards and other railway property. They also dumped parcel articles on the tracks and set them afire. The protesters, who were raising slogans of 'Jai jawan Jai kisan' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' ,demanded that the government scrap the recently announced scheme and continue the existing system of recruitment. The youth were angry that the government cancelled the recruitment examination for which they had been preparing for the last 3-4 years. They said their protest would continue till the Centre scraps the new scheme. Following the large-scale violence, an alert was sounded at all railway stations in Telangana. Security was tightened at Nampally, Kacheguda and other railway stations in Hyderabad. Several organisations have given a 72-hour ultimatum to the Modi government to withdraw the Agnipath scheme or else they will intensify the agitation and call for Bharat Bandh. In Samastipur, the agitators set two coaches of the Jammu Tawi-Guwahati Express on fire in the Mohiuddinnagar railway station located on Hajipur-Barauni railway section. In Khagaria, the agitated mob stopped the Purnea-Ranchi Kosi Express at the Mansi railway station and demanded the rollback of the Agnipath scheme. The students are sitting on tracks at several places in Bihar and they are not ready to go home. Many of them claimed that the Agnipath scheme was suicidal for youths if they join the Army under this scheme. "An army jawan becomes trained in at least a year's time and it takes 5 to 6 years for the jawan to perform duty on the border posts. Under the Agnipath scheme, there is a provision of six months training and deployment anywhere in the country, including on the borders connected to Pakistan and China. Partially skilled jawans cannot survive on the border. Meanwhile, train movement at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay station in Chandauli had been adversely affected because of attacks on trains in Bihar by protesters. According to railway sources, train movement has been halted on some routes while some other trains have been delayed. Agnipath protests spreads to several UP districts: recruitment to start soon

New Delhi, Nov 20 () The government should purchase crop residue as it procures wheat and paddy at minimum support price (MSP) to address the issue of stubble burning, one of the causes of air pollution, JD(U) MP Ram Nath Thakur suggested in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. 
Raising the issue during the morning session, Thakur also expressed concern over the arrest of farmers in some states for stubble burning. 
The government should buy crop residue in the same way it purchases wheat and rice from farmers at MSP, he said, adding that this will not only help in reducing pollution, but also provide financial relief to farmers.
BJP member Vijay Pal Singh Tomar suggested that stubble can be used in manufacturing of ethanol. 
He also said efforts should be made to ensure 10 to 15 per cent blending of ethanol with petrol, which will help in environment protection and saving foreign exchange. 
The government has mandated mixing of 10 per cent ethanol in petrol, but only about six per cent is being mixed currently. 
Meanwhile, three Congress MPs demanded that the central government buy rice from Chhattisgarh. 
Chhaya Verma, Motilal Vohra and P L Punia mentioned in the House that rice from the state is not being purchased for the central pool as Chhattisgarh is buying at a higher MSP of Rs 2,500 per quintal against the MSP of Rs 1,815 per quintal announced by the Union government. 
The Centre should relax norms and buy the grains at the MSP announced by the state government as part of its goal to double farmers' income, they said. 
The Congress, which is in power in Chhattisgarh, had promised the higher MSP to boost farmers' income, according to them. 
BJP's Shwait Malik said people living within the 5-km area from the India-Pakistan border in Punjab are facing problems in getting employment and education. 
He demanded a special fund to provide infrastructure, education and job opportunities to them. 
In his Zero Hour mention, A K Selvaraj of the AIADMK raised the issue of adulteration and contamination of food products. 
Two TMC members Md Nadimul Haque and Manas Ranjan Bhunia highlighted the plight of people affected by Cyclone Bulbul and demanded that the central government extend help in providing relief to those affected. 
DMK leader Tiruchi Siva suggested that Tamil should be made the official language of the Madras High Court. 
Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu agreed with the suggestion, saying the language in high courts should be that of the state. 
Another Congress member Mohd Ali Khan asked the central government to intervene so that the ongoing strike by employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) can be ended.
