Taylor tells us all there is to know about the London Marathon association and also tells us why sports marketing is a critical strategy for brand TCS.</li></ul>The London Marathon is all set to become more accessible and inclusive and it is <keyword id="6357585" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS) that is making it possible. TCS recently signed a six-year partnership as the title partner of the London Marathon from 2022, following this year's race on October 3. TCS has developed the marathon’s official event app that allows participants and spectators, from anywhere in the world, to experience the marathon. Over the years, TCS has associated with some of the biggest running events in the world, events that are spread across 4 continents and 12 different cities. Michelle Doti Taylor, Head of Global Sports Sponsorships at TCS has been instrumental in making a lot of these associations a reality. She currently overlooks a portfolio of 14 sponsorships. In a recent conversation with her, we tried to understand what the London Marathon partnership entails, why sports marketing is so crucial for TCS, how it has helped the organization build brand TCS into what it is today. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="All about the London Marathon" text="All about the London Marathon">All about the London Marathon</cmsannotation> TCS recently announced that it will become the title partner of the London Marathon from 2022, following this year’s race on October 3. While the organization has been partnering with London Marathon as its <keyword id="2760042" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="technology-partner">technology partner</keyword> since 2016, this new expanded partnership would mean TCS will make the best use of technology to further enhance the marathon experience and promote a healthy lifestyle. TCS will be responsible for personalizing experiences for all participants, spectators and sponsors by using data, to make the event even more accessible and inclusive. Talking about TCS’ new role as the title partner for the London Marathon, Taylor said, “TCS has been committed to running for years. We've been involved in global running events for over 10 years now, and a partner with London Marathon since 2016. We've had this relationship for a while where we have had the time to understand the event. We always had greater ambitions for the partnership and in running and in what running can do for the community and for TCS. So when this opportunity came about, we couldn't have been more excited to build on a lot of the work that we' had already been doing with the London Marathon and to take on a bigger role and see how we can grow and tell more of TCS’ story through marathoning and through this event.” TCS has developed the official event app and in 2020, the app was updated to support participants in the first virtual London Marathon during the pandemic. This year too, TCS aims at making the overall experience more engaging for participants and spectators. “The app has really being a game changer for the sport. In the past when spectators would come to a marathon event, you've got a 26.2 mile course with 1000’s of runners. Being able to see your person was always left on chance. But this technology helps track the runners which really changed the sport from not just the spectator standpoint, but also for the runners. To be able to hear cheers from their loved ones at the point where they needed it the most on the course to really rallying them across the finish line, it has really been amazing. That's going to continue to be our hero activation across London and we'll certainly continue to do more with it as technology evolves. We really want to enhance the experience.” In 2020, TCS updated the app to support participants in the first virtual London Marathon during the pandemic. The plan is to use digital innovation to further enhance the event experience for all future races which will continue to be a hybrid of physical and virtual events. This year, around 50,000 runners will take part in the main physical event and a further 50,000 will participate in the virtual event. “In 2020, when the pandemic hit and the whole world was trying to figure out how we're going to move forward, technology became the key across all industries on how we would progress and how we could still keep connected. And it was no different in sport and in marathon too. So TCS was able to work with all of our partners, in particular the London Marathon, to really pivot the live event to virtual and be able to deliver this incredible experience to people interested anywhere in the world. And that opened up the doors to making the marathon really more accessible. In the past, if you wanted to participate in the London Marathon, you had to have the means and funds to be able to travel to London, to be able to get an entry, which is also incredibly hard. And through this technology, we took the race to people while also giving them a taste of London where they were able to hear the sights and sounds of the city while they were running in their own neighborhoods. It was a really exciting experience in a really challenging time, to be able to connect runners globally and we're looking forward to continuing our work towards really personalizing the experience,” she added. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="TCS and the sports marketing connect" text="TCS and the sports marketing connect">TCS and the sports marketing connect</cmsannotation> Despite being a global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, TCS has a historic track record with major marathons across the world, including New York, Amsterdam, Singapore, and Mumbai. TCS even sponsors an F1 driver in Japan, through Nakajima Racing. So what is TCS’ connect with sports? “Our chairman at the time was trying to improve his own health and he started his own walking and running routine. And when he saw how it really improved his quality of life, he said, ‘If this is so good for me, imagine how good it will be for all of our employees’. So TCS started Fit4Life, and our employees immediately jumped on that and started getting active themselves. Again TCS looked inside and said, ‘If this is doing such great things for our employees, what about our clients and the communities where we work and live?’ And that's where TCS started to pivot and look at sports sponsorships and look at how these sponsorships are giving communities an opportunity to get healthier and fit. Marathons are huge milestones for people but also, marathons give a huge platform to fundraising and charities across the board. In many ways, marathon is an analogy for life and we feel it’s a perfect alignment for us,” explained Taylor. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Fortifying Brand TCS" text="Fortifying Brand TCS">Fortifying Brand TCS</cmsannotation> While there are many facets to building a brand, for TCS, its largest investment has been towards its expansive global portfolio of marathon sponsorships. In 2004, after TCS’ marketing department was formalized, it slowly started leveraging sports, not only to boost its brand but to also engage its stakeholders. On how these associations have transformed brand TCS into what it is today, Taylor said, “I always say that TCS really has a soul. As a company, we believe in community. Through all these sporting partnerships, we started out with a shared purpose around community and improving people's lives. A lot of our race partners are very focused on improving people's lives through running and TCS believes in that as well. Our expertise is around technology so we just tap into our knowledge of technology to see how we can give back to the community and improve people's lives.”

How sports marketing has helped fortify brand TCS

<ul><li>Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a second salary hike for its employees within a span of six months.</li><li>Last year in October, the IT major increased salaries by 6% to 8%.</li><li>This time around the company plant to hike wages by the same amount resulting in a cumulative boost of 12% to 14%.</li></ul>India’s biggest information technology (IT) services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is set to dole out a second round of increments for its employees within a span of six months. The last salary hike was announced by the IT major in October last year, where the increase in wages was between 6% to 8%. Sources told Business Insider, on the condition of anonymity, that the salary increments will be around the same this time around as well. This means employees will have received a cumulative boost of around 12% to 14%. “We can confirm that we are on track to give increments to all associates across our geographies effective April 2021, in line with our benchmarks,” a TCS spokesperson told Business Insider. This comes after TCS’ attrition rate dropped to a record low of 7.6%, as of 31 December 2020. The company currently has 4,69,261 employees under its wing after adding 15,000 more to its roster between the months of September to December. According to Milind Lakkad, head of human resources at TCS, over 96% of the company’s employees were still working from home before the New Year with only 3.4% in office. Despite the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, TCS reported its strongest Q3 growth in nine years in 2020. TCS to dole out a second salary hike within a span six months

It's not just India — Chinese intelligence has its eye on more than 2.4 million individuals across the US, Japan, Canada, Australia, and the UK

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>'s maiden five-day visit to <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword> saw the latter nation pledging financial support for building infrastructure in India. Sticking to his 'Make in India' slogan, Modi gave an open invitation to Japanese companies to consider India as a 'competitive low-cost manufacturing hub'. 
 
The meet also saw India-Japan relations being upgraded to the level of 'Special Strategic Global Partnership'. We take a look at the ten takeaways from PM Modi's visit: 
 
1) PM Modi's 3D mantra: Inviting Japanese investors to 'Make in India', PM Modi said, "There is no better place than India for Japanese investors. India is one of the most competitive markets in the world." 
 Addressing Japan's Nikkei Exchange, Modi said that India offers the three essential 'Ds' for <keyword id="80597" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Businessmen">businessmen</keyword> to thrive namely; Democracy, Demography and Demand. "It is important for Japan to move to low cost hubs of manufacturing." 
 
Promising a conducive environment for investors, Modi said, "Foreign investors need a proper environment to grow in India. We are working towards improving ease of doing business in India." "There is no red tape but red carpet in India. We have eased off a lot of regulations," Modi sought to assure. 
 
2) Bullet trains: With Japan committing to fund bullet trains, the dream of running high-speed trains on Indian tracks is now a step closer. 
 
Modi's dream project got a big push after Japan expressed readiness to provide financial, technical and operational support to introduce bullet trains in India in a joint statement. 
 
The first high-speed train is expected to run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai at an estimated cost of around Rs 60,000-70,000 crores. 
 
As Japan is a pioneer in running superfast trains, the agreement is expected to help Modi achieve his dream of a bullet train for India running at a maximum of 300 km per hour. 
 
3) Two nominees of Japan in PMO's special team: PM Modi announced that a special management team would be set up directly under the Prime Minister's Office to facilitate investment proposals from Japan. 
 
The decision to include two nominees of Japan in the special management team is unprecedented and such a system of having nominees of the foreign government will happen for the first time. Modi said that the two nominees selected by Japan would also be part of the decision-making team which evaluates business proposal. 
 
4) 'Special Strategic Global Partnership': Japan and India have upgraded their partnership to the level of 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' with the signing of a defence pact for regional stability and <keyword id="4741" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tokyo">Tokyo</keyword>'s decision to double <keyword id="44528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="FDI">FDI</keyword> in India. 
 
India and Japan also decided to "upgrade" and "strengthen" their defence cooperation as they asked officials to launch consultations to promote military equipment collaboration and accelerate discussions on modalities for the sale of Japanese US-2 amphibian aircraft. 
 
The two sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Exchanges in the Field of Defence during Modi's five-day visit. "We intend to give a new thrust and direction to our defence cooperation, including collaboration in defence technology and equipment, given our shared interest in peace and stability and maritime security. We have also decided to expand our cooperation in advanced technology, science and technology, people-to-people exchanges, educational exchanges, etc," Modi said at the joint press briefing with Abe. 
 
The two sides stressed on the importance of the regularisation of bilateral maritime exercises as well as on Japan's continued participation in India-US Malabar series of exercises. 
 
5) Civil nuclear deal remains elusive: Despite last-minute negotiations, the two sides could not narrow down differences over Tokyo's insistence for a tougher safe-guard regime and "no nuclear test" clause in the bilateral agreement. 
 
Japan wants India to guarantee not to conduct nuclear tests and more stringent inspections of its nuclear facilities to ensure that spent fuel is not diverted to make bombs. 
 
India has been insisting on self-imposed moratorium on its tests and does not agree to Tokyo's insistence on the clause in the text of the agreement that provides for automatic termination of nuclear ties if India conducts test in future. 
 
Addressing a joint press briefing with Abe, Modi said, "In recent months, we have made significant progress in our negotiations on civil nuclear cooperation. Today, we have discussed this issue at length. We have reached better understanding of each other's positions through this discussion. 
 
We have agreed to instruct our negotiators to work expeditiously to conclude the negotiations at an early date so that we can further strengthen our strategic partnership." Abe commended India's efforts in the field of non-proliferation, including the affirmation that goods and technologies transferred from Japan would not be used for delivery systems for weapon of mass destruction.

6) Japan to invest over $33.58 billion in India: Japan announced doubling of its private and public investment in India to about $34 billion over the next five years. The 3.5 trillion yen ($34 billion) of investment from Japan to India including Official Development Assistance(ODA) during a 5-year period will be under the aegis of India-Japan Investment Promotion Partnership for development of projects including infrastructure and building of smart cities. 
 
The five-year period will also see the doubling of the presence of Japanese firms in India, Abe said. 
 
7) Japan lifts ban on 6 Indian entities: Japan lifted ban on HAL and five other Indian entities, which had been imposed in the aftermath of the 1998 nuclear tests, amid Modi's assertion that cooperation between the two countries in defence and security will get a "new direction". 
 "Japan has decided to remove ban on some entities," Modi said. Sources later said the ban had been lifted on six entities, including <keyword id="468489" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Hindustan-Aeronautics-Limited-">Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.</keyword> However, four entities still remain in the banned list. 
 
The removal of the ban will enable these companies to have cooperation with Japanese firms, including transfer of technology. 
 
8) Japanese companies to speedy clearance: Holding that the environment of "disappointment" was over, Modi invited Japanese businesses to join India's developmental efforts with a promise of non-discriminatory and speedy clearances. 
 
Inviting Japanese businesses, particularly to infrastructure and clean energy sectors, the Prime Minister asked them to keep in mind the Gujarat experience. 
 
He promised single-window clearances, speedy decision- making which is non-discriminatory in nature. 
 
9) New TCS training initiative: PM Modi inaugurated <keyword id="2499762" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TCS-Japan-Technology">TCS Japan Technology</keyword> and Culture Academy, which will work towards enhancing technology and cultural knowledge between IT professionals of the two nations. 
 
Modi also flagged off the first batch of 48 TCS Japan trainees, who will proceed to India to undergo training for 6-8 weeks at various TCS locations. 
 
"The 21st century is the century of knowledge and technology and all of you will gain knowledge from travelling in India... You are going as employees of TCS but I want you to come back to Japan as ambassadors of India," Modi said. 
 
Known for his communicating skills, Modi joined the ceremonial Japanese drummers to perform a jugalbandi with them as he drummed up support for Indian business in Japan. 
 
Modi tried his hands at drums while inaugurating the TCS Cultural Centre. The Prime Minister was inspired after watching the drummers and joined them, much to the amusement of the gathering. 
 
10) Modi deplores 'expansionist' tendency of some countries: Modi deplored the "expansionist" tendency among some countries which "encroach" upon seas of others, in oblique comments against China which is having a maritime dispute with Japan. 
 
"The whole world accepts that the 21st century will belong to Asia. But I have a question. How should the 21st century be? We have to give an answer to this. It will depend on how deep and progressive our relationship (between India and Japan) is," he said. 
 
"We have to decide if we want to have 'vikas vaad' (development) or 'vistar vaad' (expansionism) which leads to disintegration. Those who follow the path of Buddha and have faith on 'vikas vaad', they develop. But we see, those having ideas of the 18th century, engage in encroachments and enter seas (of others)," he said. 
 
He did not name any country but the comments may be seen as targeting China which is engaged in territorial disputes with a number of its neighbours, including India, Japan and some others including Vietnam.

HCL Tech's mid-quarter guidance optimism sparks rally in TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra too

<keyword id="6354998" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="washington">Washington</keyword>, <keyword id="6360409" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nasa">NASA</keyword> has approved two <keyword id="4114560" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="missions">missions</keyword> to explore the Sun and the <keyword id="6360115" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="system">system</keyword> that drives <keyword id="823889" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Space-Weather">space weather</keyword> near <keyword id="6359982" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="earth">Earth</keyword>. These two missions are Extreme Ultraviolet High-Throughput Spectroscopic Telescope Epsilon Mission, or EUVST, and the Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer, or EZIE. Together, NASA's contribution to the missions will help us understand the Sun and Earth as an interconnected system, the US space agency said on Tuesday. Understanding the physics that drive the solar wind and solar explosions -- including solar flares and coronal mass ejections -- could one day help scientists predict these events, which can impact human technology and explorers in space. "We are very pleased to add these new missions to the growing fleet of satellites that are studying our Sun-Earth system using an amazing array of unprecedented observational tools," Thomas Zurbuchen, Associate Administrator for Science at NASA headquarters in Washington, said in a statement. The <keyword id="750760" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Japan-Aerospace-Exploration-Agency">Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency</keyword> (JAXA) leads the Extreme Ultraviolet High-Throughput Spectroscopic Telescope (EUVST) Epsilon Mission (Solar-C EUVST Mission), along with other international partners. Targeted for launch in 2026, EUVST is a solar telescope that will study how the solar atmosphere releases solar wind and drives eruptions of solar material. These phenomena propagate out from the Sun and influence the space radiation environment throughout the solar system. NASA's hardware contributions to the mission include an intensified UV detector and support electronics, spectrograph components, a guide telescope, software, and a slit-jaw imaging system to provide context for the spectrographic measurement. The budget for NASA contributions to EUVST is $55 million. The Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer (EZIE) will study electric currents in Earth's atmosphere linking aurora to the Earth's magnetosphere -- one piece of Earth's complicated space weather system, which responds to solar activity and other factors. The Auroral Electrojet (AE) index is a common measure of geomagnetic activity levels, even though the details of the structure of these currents is not understood. EZIE will launch no earlier than June 2024, NASA said, adding that the total budget for the mission is $53.3 million. NASA green lights two new missions — one to explore the Sun and the other to analyse space weather around Earth for $50 million each

And, 18 Indian organisations including Infosys, Wipro, HDFC and Tata Steel were featured in it. Yet only three Indian companies — Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tata Motors — made it to the top 50. On a global front, Indian organisations have been faring well, as compared to the ranks last year. Technology giant Infosys has crawled up to the third rank from 31 in 2018, preceded by global payments giant Visa and carmaker Ferrari. India’s most valuable company TCS has been ranked 22. Addressing the positive growth of the company, Forbes labelled Infosys — which is the second largest software exporter in India — as ‘Asian invasion.’ Other companies in the top 10 include Netflix, PayPal, Microsoft, Walt Disney, Toyota Motor, Mastercard and Costco Wholesale. India, China and Japan cumulatively account for 82 companies in top 250 of the global list. US leads the race with 59 companies. Forbes, jointly with German statistics company Statistica surveyed over 15,000 respondents across 50 countries to assess the world’s largest public companies. ​The growing proficiency of Indian technology companies in building innovative products is drawing a great deal of attention from global corporations eager to acquire fresh ideas and skilled workers. 
 
Applications that help ease online payments, offer security for data stored on multiple devices as well as those that help drive greater advertising revenue on mobile devices are some of the technologies on the shopping list of multinationals scouting for the right startup. In the next five years, experts say at least 40 technology ventures in India could be bought over by large corporations. 
 “Couple of them (startups) will be valued at over $1 billion (Rs 6,200 crore),” said Ravi Gururaj, an angel investor who heads the software product council at industry lobby <keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword>. He expects about half a dozen technology ventures to be valued at around $500 million (Rs 3,100 crore) while <keyword id="818790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="the-rest">the rest</keyword> will likely fetch a price of between $15 million (Rs 93 crore) and $50 million (Rs 311 crore). 
 A handful of such acquisitions has already set the ball rolling. Last November, Japanese engineering and electronics maker <keyword id="69870" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Hitachi">Hitachi</keyword> acquired Prizm Payment Services, in a deal estimated at $250 million (Rs 1,547 crore). In mid 2013, South African media conglomerate Naspers bought online bus ticketing firm red-Bus for about $100 million (Rs 618 crore), giving it access to not only the large <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> but disruptive technology as well. 
 “Multinational companies primarily look for talent and <keyword id="388837" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="intellectual-property">intellectual property</keyword> that can compete at global level,” said Prashant Gupta, group manager at Microsoft India (R&amp;D). “There are early signs in India that such companies are emerging that can meet these demands, especially in cloud-driven application lifecycle and big data,” he said. 
 
The global software maker runs an accelerator programme in India for technology startups that has graduated 22 ventures so far and is poised to make its first venture investment this year. 
 Interest from <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword>ese corporations too is growing. Apart from the Hitachi deal, others such as NTT too have been active buyers. In 2012 Japan’s <keyword id="913532" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="NTT-Communications">NTT Communications</keyword> bought a majority stake in technology firm <keyword id="423557" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Netmagic">Netmagic</keyword> for about Rs 900 crore. “India is becoming the laboratory for products and services for the world,” said Krishnan Ganesh, <keyword id="36740" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="founder">founder</keyword> of online tutoring company TutorVista that was bought by the UK’s <keyword id="152222" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Pearson">Pearson</keyword> group at an enterprise value of about Rs 1,000 crore. 
 
After the acquisition, the number of students using the services of TutorVista has tripled to four million across both the local and the US market. Pearson now aims to replicate the TutorVista model in emerging markets such as Brazil, China and South Africa. 
 
In 2013, there were 100 merger and acquisition deals across the India’s information technology industry. Of this, 31 whose value was announced were worth $1,906 million (Rs 11,807 crore), according to research firm Venture Intelligence. 
 The trigger for this growing M&amp;A activity is the range of disruptive technology startups emerging out of India. Companies such as advertising network InMobi, data analytics company Mu Sigma and online retailer <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> have achieved a scale where they are valued at over $1 billion. “This is driven by leading-edge globally competitive technologies,” said Naren Gupta cofounder and managing director of Nexus Venture Partners, an early investor in Netmagic and online retailer <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>. 
 For instance, Pune-based <keyword id="741520" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Druva">Druva</keyword> provides data security and retrieval software to customers such as US space agency <keyword id="6360409" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="NASA">Nasa</keyword>, drug maker <keyword id="44612" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Pfizer">Pfizer</keyword> and fashion brand <keyword id="5940" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Louis-Vuitton">Louis Vuitton</keyword>.

	&#xa0;</div> In Chennai, Perfint Healthcare has developed robots that treat cancer by precisely inserting a needle in the affected area to burn or freeze a patient’s tumour, leaving the good tissue alone. The founders, all former employees of <keyword id="166456" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="GE-Healthcare">GE Healthcare</keyword>, quit to launch the firm when they realised the demand for such a product. For global corporations acquiring such game-changing technologies can help them enter new markets and raise barriers against competition. 
 Two years ago, when global software maker <keyword id="183292" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Red-Hat">Red Hat</keyword> bought Bangalore-based <keyword id="6373689" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Cloud-computing">cloud computing</keyword> startup <keyword id="724826" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Gluster">Gluster</keyword> for around Rs 667 crore, it acquired a storage platform technology which it offered to its customers for the first time. The cost of technology infrastructure to set up such ventures and scale them up for acquisitions has also come down drastically. 
 “A bunch of guys can now launch an application from a garage, keep the tablet or a mobile phone as the front end and the product becomes viral in few weeks,” said Anand Babu Periasamy, cofounder of Gluster. A computer <keyword id="6369183" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Engineer">engineer</keyword> graduate from <keyword id="119675" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="annamalai-university">Annamalai University</keyword>, Periasamy who now works at Red Hat is aiming to build Gluster into a billion dollar business unit. 
 
Experts hope small-size technology ventures in India will also attract the attention of larger firms. “Smaller exits are the life blood for healthy startup ecosystems like in <keyword id="6355882" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="israel">Israel</keyword> and US,” said Sharad Sharma co founder of software product think-tank iSpirt. Sharma is running an active M&amp;A Connect Program at iSpirt that is curating a list of several dozen companies. 
 Some of those on the radar are retail services software maker Capillary Technologies, healthcare applications provider <keyword id="1165142" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Practo">Practo</keyword> and security software maker <keyword id="171228" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Quick-Heal">Quick Heal</keyword>. According to Sharma, many of them have shown healthy growth traction and are attractive for strategic partnerships. 
 Sharma of iSpirt is of the view that a larger proportion of bootstrapped companies is stymieing merger activity in India. “It is harder for large corporations when there is no validation from <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> firms,” he said. 
 The other major problem say experts is that large Indian firms such as Infosys, <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> and <keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword> have shied away from making any such purchases, despite having huge cash reserves. Infosys has $4 billion (Rs 24,000 crore) cash reserves. 
 
“When Wipro can be in soaps and vegetable oil, why can’t they be in the Flipkarts of the world,” said Ganesh of TutorVista. “They are sitting on a huge cash reserve and not a fraction has been spent on startups. That mentality is not there.” 
 
“Over the next five years, I expect that quantity will dramatically improve and we can be optimistic about merger and acquisition activity out of India,” said Nasscom’s Gururaj.

Indian startups' global competitiveness and innovation make them acquisition targets

The Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (<keyword id="6816005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="icea">ICEA</keyword>) has sought extension of the <keyword id="984226" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="zero-import-duty">zero import duty</keyword> on open cell television panels beyond September 2019. In a letter to Revenue Secretary <keyword id="9938032" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajay-bushan-pandey">Ajay Bushan Pandey</keyword>, the ICEA said that the reduction of custom duty on open cell from 5 per cent to zero per cent till September 2020 has given a huge fillip to domestic manufacturing of <keyword id="428513" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="LED-televisions">LED televisions</keyword> and led to reduction in imports from ASEAN countries. It has sought an extension on the zero duty on open cell imports for three years. Citing the Ministry of Electronics and IT's recent proposal to to impose duty of 5 per cent on open cell panels and bring pure cell to zero per cent in a bid to encourage the process of polariser film and COF bonding for open cell, the industry body said that it is concerned about its implementation as the anomaly in differentiation of open cell with bonding and open cell without bonding -- pure cell -- still remains a challenge. The industry body, representing LG, <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> and Micromax among others, warned of the growth of the grey market if the proposal is put into effect. "If the duty on open cell is not extended beyond September 2020, it will again lead to high imports of LED TVs under FTA, a huge blow to the Make in India programme of the Government of India. It will have an adverse impact on the Indian domestic manufacturers and the EMS companies," the letter by ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said. Xiaomi, LG and Micromax-backed lobby seeks extension of zero import duty on open cell TV panels

The billion dollar contracts are becoming rare and it is a tough fight. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+IT+companies&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Indian IT companies</a> such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TCS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">TCS</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys</a>, etc are back in the renewal of contracts battle and are eying deals worth $100 billion. 
 
The renewal contracts for 2016-17 will pour in from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=deutsche+bank&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Deutsche Bank</a>, UBS, Mitsubishi and Vodafone. 
 The research and outsourcing advisory firm ISG stated the renewals are of prime importance for <keyword id="6357549" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-IT-companies">Indian IT companies</keyword> because big customers like AstraZeneca, Lowe's and JPMorgan Chase are going for insource software projects, making big billion contracts rare. 
 As per ISG, large technology customers such as British utilities firm National Grid, <keyword id="6357341" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deutsche-Bank">Deutsche Bank</keyword>, UK's Network Rail and Japan's Mitsubishi currently have billion-dollar engagements with clients such as IBM, CSC, Hitachi and Carillion, all of which will come up for renewal. 
 
"The competitive intensity is going up in the industry and hence the pressure on pricing levels will continue. The scope and construct of the deals are also changing with infrastructure delivery models becoming hybrid (mix of cloud and on premise) quite frequently," said Dinesh Goel, partner and India head at ISG. 
 
It is noteworthy that Infosys is on a momentum as it reported three consecutive quarters of outperformance. 
 
"Our deal wins have improved dramatically and we are approaching $800-900 million a quarter in large deals. That's more than double of what we used to do," Infosys’ <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vishal Sikka</a> had stated recently.

The Global 2000 ranks the largest companies in the world using four metrics: sales, profits, assets, and market value, Forbes said while releasing the 2023 ranking of the world's top 2,000 companies. JPMorgan, America's biggest bank with USD 3.7 trillion in assets, is at the top of the list for the first time since 2011 and has emerged stronger from this spring's regional banking crisis, with more deposits and opportunistic acquisition of the failed First Republic Bank, it said. <keyword id="6358963" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="warren-buffett" source="Orion">Warren Buffett</keyword>'s Berkshire Hathaway that topped the list last year, fell to the 338th position in the latest list due to unrealised losses in its investment portfolio. Saudi oil behemoth Aramco is at 2nd position followed by three giant-sized state-owned Chinese banks. Technology giants Alphabet and Apple are at 7th and 10th place, respectively. Oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance, with sales of USD 109.43 billion and profit of USD 8.3 billion, is the top most-ranked Indian firm at the 45th spot, climbing from the 53rd position it had held in last year's ranking. Reliance was ranked ahead of well-known names like Germany's BMW Group, Switzerland's Nestle, China's Alibaba Group, US-based Procter &amp; Gamble and Japan's Sony. State Bank of India climbed to 77th spot from 105th in the 2022 ranking. HDFC Bank is at 128th position (153 in 2022) and ICICI Bank is at 163 (204 in 2022). Other Indian firms on the list include state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation at 226 and HDFC (232). Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) made its maiden entry at 363 while <keyword id="6357585" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services" source="Orion">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS) slipped to 387th rank from 384 last year. Axis Bank (423), NTPC (433), Larsen &amp; Toubro (449), Bharti Airtel (478), Kotak Mahindra Bank (502), Indian Oil Corporation (540), Infosys (554), Bank of Baroda (586), Coal India (591), Tata Steel (592), Hindalco (660) and Vedanta (687) are other notable Indian firms on the list. In all, 55 Indian firms figured on the list. Three firms of the conglomerate helmed by billionaire Gautam Adani, whose group faced a scathing attack from a US short seller earlier this year that lead to him losing the world's third richest tag, figured in the list. The three Adani Group firms in the list include Adani Enterprises at 1062, Adani Power at 1488, and Adani Ports &amp; Special Economic Zones at 1598.
