Speaking to ANI, Vidushpat said that the CAS has not cited a reason why has it been dismissed her appeal.<br /><br />He further added that CAS's decision can be appealed against at the <keyword id="22260367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiss-Federal-Tribunal" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Swiss Federal Tribunal" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Swiss Federal Tribunal">Swiss Federal Tribunal</keyword> within 30 days.<br /><br />"No detailed order has come yet. Only a single-line order has come so far that her appeal has been dismissed. They have not cited a reason why has it been dismissed or why did they take so much time...We were both surprised and disappointed that a decision came last evening and her appeal was dismissed. We hope that the detailed order will come in 10-15 days.  CAS decision can be appealed against at the Swiss Federal Tribunal within 30 days. The 30-day time will begin after a detailed order comes. We will sit with him, draft an appeal and file it," Vidushpat said.<br /><br />According to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the verdict was originally scheduled for Tuesday, August 13 at 9:30 pm IST, but was delayed to August 16. However, the decision was announced on Wednesday.<br /><br />Vinesh was set to face Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the United States for the gold medal on August 7. She was disqualified before the women's 50kg final after exceeding the 50kg weight limit before the final on August 7. During the weigh-in, she was found to be 100 grams over the limit. Following her disqualification, Vinesh appealed to award her the silver medal in the 50kg weight category.<br /><br />On August 8, Vinesh penned an emotional to announce her decision to retire from wrestling. "Maa kushti (wrestling) won against me, I lost. Forgive me, your dream and my courage have been broken. I don't have any more strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. "Only single-line order has come...": Vinesh Phogat's lawyer on plea dismissal by CAS

It has traditionally been used by Swiss herders to communicate in the mountains, but later became popular with musicians as a form of entertainment. <a href="https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/where-did-yodeling-originate-and-more-questions-from-our-readers-23993/">According to the Smithsonian</a>, yodelling can also be heard in Persian classical music, African Pygmy music, and the Mexican son huasteco</p><p>The university has offered folk-music degrees since 2012. Applications for the yodelling programs will open on February 28 and only three of four students are expected to be chosen.</p><p>Michael Kaufmann, head of the university's music department told Swiss paper&#xa0;<a href="https://www.tdg.ch/suisse/plus-populaire-yodel-obtient-propre-master/story/21841481" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tribune de Genève</a>, that he had long wanted to offer yodelling to his students, but could not find a qualified teacher.</p><p>Räss told the paper that classes would expand the tradition of yodelling in Switzerland, which has seen something of a modern renaissance. In 2014, the Swiss government said it would <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/switzerland/11182946/Yodelling-earmarked-for-Unesco-World-Heritage-status.html">seek Unesco World Heritage status</a> for the singing style.</p><p>"As well as having good vocal technique students must be taught about different styles and voices to expand their repertoire. The whole yodelling scene will benefit from their new skills," Räss told the Tribune.</p><p>Some critics have voiced concern that teaching yodelling at a university will cheapen its legacy.</p><p>"University studies have not been necessary to keep the yodel alive for decades," Karin Niederberger, president of the Federal Yodeling Association in Switzerland, told the Tribune.</p><p>Addressing criticism,Räss told the Tribune: "Our program will only train a few people out of thousands of yodelers. You can now get a degree in yodelling from a Swiss university

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A messy dispute over Olympic bronze has roiled women's gymnastics.</li><li>After a stunning result at the Paris Olympics, a court ruled US gymnast Jordan Chiles must relinquish her medal.</li></ul><p>A <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jordan-chiles-loses-olympic-bronze-after-scoring-appeal-is-overturned-2024-8">contentious judging decision and messy appeals process</a> has roiled women's gymnastics — and spiraled into an international argument for Olympic bronze between the US and Romania.</p><p>At the center: American gymnast Jordan Chiles and Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu, whose razor-thin fight for an Olympic medal has already blow up into threats of legal action and vows for "justice."</p><p>The drama kicked off last Monday during the floor exercise in Paris.</p><p>Initially, Chiles finished fifth with a score of 13.666. But after her coach filed an inquiry, arguing Chiles should've been awarded more difficulty points, her score was upped to 13.766 — enough to net bronze.</p><p>The stunning about-face <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAvrnZdw1sE">unfolded in real time</a>. Bărbosu, who'd been awarded bronze before the inquiry, looked up at the scoreboard mid-celebration to see that she'd been dethroned. She dropped her Romanian flag and rushed off in tears.</p><p>Chiles, meanwhile, fell to the floor in tears, hugging her coach Cecile Landi and teammate Simone Biles before receiving her medal on the podium.</p><p>And the shocking switch may not have been the only scoring error. Bărbosu's teammate, <span>Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, scored 13.700 in her routine after she was deducted .1 points for stepping out of bounds. But replays later appeared to show that </span>Maneca-Voinea's foot didn't go out and the gymnast has since asserted she didn't go out of bounds.</p><p>But Maneca-Voinea's coach didn't asked for a review that day.</p><h2 id="67b6dd01-30d5-4876-85cb-9d481d109dc8"><strong>The medals were reordered after Landi's challenge was deemed too late</strong></h2><p>Chiles' triumph was short-lived.</p><p>The Romanian Gymnastics Federation and two of its gymnasts filed a challenge to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), arguing that Landi's inquiry on Chiles' behalf was levied too late.</p><p>After a hearing, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tas-cas.org/fileadmin/user_upload/CAS_Media_Release_ParisOG_15-16.pdf">CAS determined Saturday</a> that the US challenge had come after the one-minute cutoff, so Chiles' score was reset lower, dropping her off the podium.</p><p>CAS dismissed a separate appeal over Maneca-Voinea's deduction.</p><div type="image" title="Ana Barbosu looks at the score change on the stadium screen, with her mouth wide open and hands on her stomach." height="683" width="911" msid="112505366" hostid="261" sizebytes="37456"></div><p>The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) <a target="_blank" href="https://www.gymnastics.sport/site/news/displaynews.php?urlNews=4268100">then amended</a> the order of the medals to reflect the CAS ruling, with Bărbosu reclaiming bronze. It kicked the final decision to the International Olympic Committee, which ordered Chiles to return her bronze medal.</p><p>But USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic &amp; Paralympic Committee (USOPC) <a target="_blank" href="https://usagym.org/joint-statement-from-usa-gymnastics-and-the-u-s-olympic-paralympic-committee-regarding-the-cas-decision-on-the-womens-floor-final/">said in a joint statement</a> that Landi's inquiry came within the appropriate timeframe and condemned "extremely hurtful" attacks against Chiles; the gymnast announced a break from social media during the uproar.</p><h2 id="a33d2973-607a-49c6-8c1d-f6c4ebb4e75b">USA Gymnastics is ready to go to court</h2><p>USA Gymnastics vowed to continue fighting for Chiles' medal, even as CAS reiterated its decision is final.</p><p>On Sunday, USA Gymnastics <a target="_blank" href="https://usagym.org/usa-gymnastics-submits-additional-evidence-to-court-of-arbitration-for-sport/">said</a> it had video evidence — which it hadn't previously submitted — which proved Landi's inquiry was made within 47 seconds.</p><p>But the US's hopes of an easy reversal were quickly dashed. On Monday, USA Gymnastics <a target="_blank" href="https://usagym.org/statement-from-usa-gymnastics-on-cas-notice/">said</a> it had been notified that CAS' decision was final — even in the face of "conclusive new evidence."</p><div type="image" title="Jordan Chiles wearing a blue jacket on the podium, holding up her bronze medal and smiling." height="680" width="907" msid="112505365" hostid="261" sizebytes="59904"></div><p>According to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/12/sport/jordan-chiles-bronze-olympics-controversy-explained/index.html">CNN,</a> CAS said in a statement that the USA and Romania "had ample opportunities to present their arguments and objections" during the hearing on Saturday.</p><p>CAS said the Swiss Federal Tribunal could reopen the case if new evidence emerges or all parties agree, CNN reported.</p><p>USA Gymnastics vowed Monday to "continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal."</p><p>Chiles' US gymnastics teammates backed her up.</p><p>"Sending you so much love, Jordan," Biles wrote in an Instagram Story post. "Keep your chin up Olympic champ! We love you!"</p><p>Fellow gymnast Suni Lee also criticized the judges in her own Instagram post.</p><p>"All this talk about the athlete, what about the judges??" Lee wrote. "Completely unacceptable. This is awful and I'm gutted for Jordan. I got your back forever Jo."</p><p>Meanwhile, Bărbosu reportedly praised her competition in her own Instagram post.<br /><br />"Sabrina, Jordan, my thoughts are with you. But I know you'll come back stronger," she wrote in an Instagram story over the weekend. "I hope from deep of my heart that at the next Olympics, all three of us will share the same podium. This is my true dream." </p><p>USA Gymnastics declined to comment beyond the statements on its website. Reps for Chiles and CAS did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.</p>

The international fight over a US gymnast's bronze medal is getting messy 

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5643d60e112314ae008b45fc-999-749/postbus.png" alt="postbus driverless bus" data-mce-source="Screenshot/BestMile" /><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/BestMile</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>The move toward autonomous vehicle technology is continuing its forward march worldwide.</p><p>Driverless buses are expected to hit the road in Switzerland next spring, as part of a two-year trial run that will test how well the vehicles operate in real-life traffic.</p><p>The buses will have room for 9 passengers and will be the first such test of autonomous driving technology involving public <keyword id="34991" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="transportation">transportation</keyword> in Switzerland, <a href="http://www.thelocal.ch/20151105/driverless-buses-to-launch-in-switzerland">according to The Local</a>.</p><p>The publication reports that a startup called BestMile - launched by two graduates of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - will operate the vehicles under the Swiss bus company, PostBus.</p><p>The grads, Anne Koymans and Raphaël Gindrat, <a href="https://bestmile.com/2015/11/04/sion/">said in a statement</a> that their technology allows them to "control fleets of autonomous vehicles in the same way a control tower does in an airport."</p><p>PostBus could perhaps be seen as an appropriate partner for this burgeoning era of driverless public transit.</p><p>Google, Apple Tesla and many legacy automotive brands like Mercedes-Benz and Volvo are already deep into their own development in the autonomous and semi-autonomous driving space. </p><p>Mercedes-Benz earlier this year put a version of it's driverless technnology in a production-model big-rig truck, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-self-driving-big-rig-on-a-public-highway-2015-10">and hit the road with it</a>.</p><p>Volvo is hard at work <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/volvo-xc-90-technology-review-2015-10">on it's own autonomous driving mechanisms</a>, which are based in part on auto-braking features currently available in its vehicle lineup. Volvo's work in this area is expected to span all types of vehicles from passenger cars to big-rigs.</p><p>Transportation authorities in Switzerland say the driverless buses are not meant to replace bus drivers entirely. Driverless buses will hit the road in Switzerland in spring 2016

a hormone that increases muscle mass, strength, and haemoglobin, which affects endurance."</p><p>As Semenya has lost her case against the IAAF, as per the CAS ruling, she must take medication to lower her testosterone level if she wants to continue competing in middle-distance running events.</p><p>The BBC reports that the CAS rules will apply only "to women in track events from 400 meters up to the mile," while sprint athletes and long distance runners will be unaffected by the ruling.</p><p>Kirsty Clarke the Director of Sport at Stonewall, told Business Insider: "It's deeply disappointing to hear the CAS has ruled against Caster Semenya."</p><p>She added that the ruling sets a "dangerous precedent" as it will regulate "how people - particularly women - participate in sport."</p><p>The BBC reported that the CAS itself acknowledged the regulations were discriminatory, but "necessary" to "protect the integrity" of women's athletics.</p><p>Stonewall's Clarke told BI the admission of discrimination presents "a huge issue."</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">Athletics South Africa (ASA), the national governing body for athletics in South Africa, is also outraged at the ruling.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">In a separate article, <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/48128682" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the BBC reports</a> that the ASA said the CAS decision "justifies" discrimination and reopens "the wounds of apartheid," a system of institutionalized racial segration that existed in South Africa from 1948 to 1994.</p><p>"We believe their decision is disgraceful," ASA said. "We are reeling in shock at how a body held in high esteem like the CAS can endorse discrimination without flinching. For CAS does not only condone discrimination but also goes to lengths to justify it, only undermines the integrity that this body is entrusted with. We are deeply disappointed and profoundly shocked."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5ccad8f4021b4c2b732f0718-2000/caster semenya what is intersex.jpg" border="0" alt="Caster Semenya, what is intersex" data-mce-source="Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images" data-link="https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/gold-medalist-caster-semenya-of-south-africa-stands-on-the-news-photo/592606964" /><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/gold-medalist-caster-semenya-of-south-africa-stands-on-the-news-photo/592606964">Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images</a></span></p><p class="caption">Semenya with the gold medal she won at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The World Medical Association (WMA), an international and independent confederation of medical associations, is also against medicating DSD athletes to reduce their testosterone levels.</p><p>In <a href="https://www.wma.net/news-post/wma-urges-physicians-not-to-implement-iaaf-rules-on-classifying-women-athletes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement made in April, one week before the CAS ruling, it said</a>: "The WMA fears the regulations would constrain the athletes concerned to take unjustified medication, not based on medical need, in order for them to be allowed to compete, and accordingly require physicians to prescribe such medication."</p><p>The WMA added that it is considered "unethical" to prescribe treatments for this, urgently calls on physicians around the world to "oppose and refuse to perform any test or administer any treatment" because it "might be harmful to the athlete."</p><h2>This ruling has wide ramifications</h2><p style="font-weight: 400;">Stonewall's Clarke told Business Insider that Semenya and intersex middle distance runners will not be the only athletes affected as people "wrongly conflate" intersex with trans people's rights.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;"><em><strong>Read more</strong>: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-critics-get-wrong-about-transgender-athletes-in-womens-sports-2019-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The biggest thing critics continually get wrong about transgender athletes competing in women's sports</a></em></p><p style="font-weight: 400;">"Running alongside Semenya's case - and often wrongly conflated - is the divisive debate about trans people's right to play sports," Clarke said.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">"The reality is that many trans people still feel unwelcome, or even actively excluded from playing sports. We have long been concerned about the impact that these debates have. When you question one group's rights you expose the rights of everyone to be questioned, scrutinized and even limited.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">"In this case, women's sport has taken a step back because of misinformed debates about what women's bodies should be capable of, rather than what they are capable of."<a href="https://twitter.com/DanielleWarby/status/1123719807633850369"></a></p><p>Semenya said the IAAF "have always targeted me specifically," <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/48102479" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the BBC</a>.</p><p>However, she said: "For a decade the IAAF has tried to slow me down, but this has actually made me stronger.
