Starting November 1 this year, existing apps that don't target an API level within two years of the latest major Android release version will not be available for discovery or installation for new users with devices running Android OS versions higher than apps' target API level. Google Play to block downloads for outdated apps starting November 1

Games with high-quality videos will now show a video banner at the top of their app listing page, allowing users to get a sense of gameplay in an "immersive" way. The company also reorganised apps and games details pages in a multi-column layout, bringing more of users' content higher up on the page. To promote high-quality apps that "shine" on large screens, the tech giant made several ranking changes to boost quality across the Play Store. "Apps and games that adhere to our large screen app quality guidelines will now be ranked higher in search and Apps and Games Home," the company said. "For more seamless browsing, we've simplified our store navigation and moved to a left-side navigation rail on larger screens." This puts menu items closer to users' thumbs and makes them more accessible, especially when holding a device in landscape mode. With the new split-screen search experience, users can easily discover and compare apps from within the search results page. Quick, personal, live and immersive – this is how e-commerce will be in 2023

The local kirana store or India’s largest retail chain, all of them are keen on getting a piece of the <keyword id="1410674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-grocery-delivery" source="Orion">online grocery delivery</keyword> market. DMart, for instance, has set up its app and pick-up centers for home delivery after handling its bulk delivery orders during the pandemic. Reliance Retail too stepped into this delivery business with its app, <keyword id="8506093" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jiomart" source="Orion">JioMart</keyword> with little success, though it has also invested in Dunzo. Time does matter When it comes to the delivery market, it’s not about what you deliver, how you deliver but it’s all about ‘when’ you deliver. Most of the online <keyword id="2709620" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="grocery-delivery" source="Orion">grocery delivery</keyword> hinges on timing which is why quick commerce companies are walking away with a lion’s share of the pie. “Grocery shopping in India’s major cities is set to undergo a never-seen-before tec(h)tonic shift led by quick commerce platforms,” said a report by JM Financial. Online grocery market has two segments -- quick commerce and scheduled e-grocery. Only Jiomart, Bigbasket and DMart are scheduled e-grocery stores, all the other platforms are in a race of quick delivery business. And the segment seems to be ruled by the ‘10-30-minute delivery’ offered by platforms like <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword>, Blinkit, Zepto and Dunzo. Most of the retail chains who intend to deliver groceries however have a one-day lag period between order and delivery. Added to that, quick commerce platforms are addressing multiple consumer pain-points such as convenience, speed, curated assortment, value, and round-the clock standardized services. Online food ordering business is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/retail/news/grocery-business-is-like-poison-pill-for-zomato-after-failing-miserably-two-times-as-per-analysts/articleshow/92202068.cms">aiding growth in the e-grocery as well</a>. Customers who order food online for convenience, wider selection, discounts and standardized customer support are also likely to be more amenable to ordering grocery items online for the very same reasons. This opens up cross-sell opportunities for food-techs like Swiggy and Blinkit, which is merging with Zomato. Paan to curds - quick commerce delivers it all A February 2022 Survey by LocalCircles indicates that 71% of the households used q-commerce platforms to either order daily use items such as milk, bread, eggs, curd, fruits and vegetables, etc. They also ordered indulgence items such as soft drinks, ice creams, chocolates and paan. Though, only 29% of the surveyed households used q-commerce for ‘all their grocery’ purchases. For the bulk purchases however, the large format stores are still in the running as people are going to the stores. DMart is still aggressively opening stores in parts of the country to get back to pre-covid levels. “We believe it will look to accelerate store expansion and the benefit of recent expansion is yet to fully kick in – revenue intensity is lower than pre-Covid levels,” said analysts at ICICI Securities post its March quarter earnings. Redseer estimates the grocery market size in India was worth $620 billion in 2021, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8% over the next four years to reach over $850 billion by 2025. Quick commerce is all set for the long haul Quick commerce players are also vying for a bigger piece of the entire pie. The quick ordering might start with fresher foods like fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy and other ready-to-cook items; and also indulgence categories like chocolates, biscuits, snacking items, cold drinks, and tobacco. But it could extend to others too. “We also expect grocery staples, cooking essentials, medicines, baby and personal care, home care and pet care, amongst others, to pick up as consumers become more habituated to ordering through the platforms,” said the JM Financial report. Recently, Swiggy raised $700 million for quick-commerce grocery service Instamart. Zomato poured $150 million into quick commerce startup Blinkit. Zepto raised $200 million and lastly Reliance Industries also caught the quick commerce train by investing $200 million in Dunzo. This also means that competitive intensity is likely to be severe in the near term, between them and also with the big retailers. “Only those platforms that have very strong customer recall, robust back-end supply chain and/or strong balance sheet are likely to survive this battle of attrition,” said the report. JM Financial believes that quick delivery platforms have what it takes to disrupt the unorganized grocery market including neighbourhood kirana stores or even retail chains like DMart in large cities. <ul><li>Around 4,000 jobs were posted every day during the <keyword id="36208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="festive-season" source="Orion">festive season</keyword> this year, says the <keyword id="198540" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="apna" source="Orion">Apna</keyword> report. </li><li>Cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai and Indore witnessed a massive increase in the employer base. </li><li>Hospitality and beauty &amp; wellness industries witnessed a 65% growth in the number of employers this year as compared to the same period last year.</li></ul>The Covid-19-free festive season this year saw the creation of over two lakh jobs especially by the small and medium-sized businesses (<keyword id="417894" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="smbs" source="Orion">SMBs</keyword>) and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), according to a new report by jobs platform Apna. “Festive season is the time for Indian companies to hire professionals in order to maximise their business, creating a pool of opportunities for professionals across the industry. The season’s data reflects how the Indian economy is getting back on track,” said Manas Singh, chief business officer, Apna. The report further said that there was a massive increase in the number of employers looking out for the right talent pool across job roles like telecalling, <keyword id="6380915" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bpo" source="Orion">BPO</keyword>, telesales, receptionist, front office, help desk admin and office assistants between September 1 to October 27 this year. Roles such as business development, telemarketing and sales also witnessed a growing demand in metro cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. In fact, during the festive season, on an average, 4,000 jobs were posted everyday, said the report. The logistics and delivery industry recorded a 21% increase in the number of job applications during this period as the sector offered higher pay and better perks due to higher demand for professionals in the festive season. Delivery jobs were most popular in metro cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi this season. E-commerce, food and hospitality sectors hired the maximum number of gig professionals this season. <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword>, Zomato, Zepto, and Licious were the top recruiters during the season, the report added. Swiggy had launched its grocery vertical in Gurugram in early February 2019, and had slowly expanded to a few other cities. But with the high demand for online grocery due to the coronavirus lockdown, Swiggy has now expanded to 125 cities. “While the grocery and essentials category has always been a part of our long-term strategy of delivering hyperlocal convenience, we have enabled faster ramp up for the benefit of our consumers. Extending our hyperlocal delivery offering will unlock a new dimension of convenience and safety for our consumers as well as earnings for our delivery partners during these extraordinary times”, said Vivek Sunder, COO, Swiggy. Swiggy’s expansion comes right after its rival Zomato had marked its debut in grocery with Zomato Market and expanded it to 80 cities across India. Swiggy has partnered with brands like HUL, P&amp;G, Godrej, Dabur, Marico, Vishal Mega Mart, Adani Wilmers, Cipla, while also delivering essentials from the local kirana stores. Giving a tough competition to the likes of Dunzo, Swiggy is also turning its focus on hyperlocal deliveries.Swiggy has revamped its offering ‘Swiggy Go’ by launching a hyperlocal delivery service ‘Genie’ in over 15 cities.
