The company, on one hand has posted a high single-digit growth in sales in June but its local business shrank nearly 35% on the other hand. 
P&amp;G sells product ranging from detergents and shampoos to razors and sanitary napkins. The company has revenue of under $2 billion, less than 3 per cent of its overall sales. 
 
The company, in the past three years, has invested over Rs 2,000 crore in India to mainly set up manufacturing units to minimize dependence on imports. At present, it has seven manufacturing facilities in six states, which account for more than 90 per cent of the company's products sold in the Indian subcontinent. 
 
The company has said that it has offered to help the country’s Swachh Bharat Initiative by bringing down a technology to reduce waste to that will cycle up sanitary waist.

Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan gets one more partner

When PM <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">Narendra Modi</a> urged Indians to participate in a cleanliness drive by picking up the broom and cleaning the dirt on the road himself, many people came out in his support. We saw the likes of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Amitabh+Bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Sachin+Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Salman+Khan">Salman Khan</a> and who not, out with a broom in their hands and cleaning the roads, picking up garbage. We saw their photo-ops, read other celebs’ and social activists’ speeches and were somehow convinced that our country is going to change for the better. But, did it?

India needs people like these to make Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan a big success

<ul><li>In a joint report by the <keyword id="6355833" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="united-nations">United Nations</keyword> (UN) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>'s education system has shown a surge in <keyword id="49770" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanitation">sanitation</keyword> facilities. </li><li>Until a decade ago, it was only half the schools with some sort of solution which has now increased to nearly all the schools in India having some sort of sanitation facility on campus. </li><li>While this may be good news, India still has a long way to go in terms of providing even the most basic of hygiene solutions in schools.</li></ul>India’s education system, until recently, was plagued by the absence of sanitation facilities. But, as per a <a href="https://data.unicef.org/resources/wash-in-schools/" data-type="tilCustomLink">new joint report</a> by the the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP), the scenario has changed drastically. As per their analysis, nearly all of India’s school now have some sort of sanitation facility. Until a decade ago, it was only half the schools in the country that had any sort of hygiene facilities on campus. In a country like India, sanitation facilities play a key role in boosting female attendance in schools while also creating a healthy learning environment. According to the report, the girls are more likely to miss school when they are on their period if no washroom is provided. That’s five days a month culminating to almost two whole months in a year. Dedicated washrooms are generally frowned upon in rural areas due to societal perception of solid waste as unsanitary within the areas where people live. India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (SBA), a mission to clean up the streets and add sanitation <keyword id="17408" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="infrastructure">infrastructure</keyword> to Indian cities, could be considered the driving force behind increasing awareness that thwarting that misconception. Sanitation and India Progress on this front meets goal 6 of the <keyword id="879547" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sustainable-development-goals">sustainable development goals</keyword> (SDGs) which addresses clean water and sanitation. More specifically, goal 6 has a target of ending <keyword id="6394194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="open-defecation">open defecation</keyword> by 2030. More than that, the increase in sanitation facilities meets goal 4, which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. That being said, the reality of the situation is a little bittersweet. Despite nationally issued guideline on menstrual waste management, only 66% of the schools in India have some sort of menstrual hygiene education integrated into their school curriculum. While looking into how many schools have bins with lids for the disposal of sanitary materials, the percentages varied from state to state. Developed areas like Chandigarh have bins with lids across 98% of the schools whereas their less-developed counterparts like Chattisgarh only have a 36% coverage. On top of that, Mizoram is the only state to have functional incinerators for the disposal of sanitary waste in more than 50% of its schools. Even as something as basic as safe drinking water is only present in 30% of the schools in India. And, only-third of the schools have some form of the most basic types of toilet facilities. While, the increase and pace of sanitation is encouraging, there are still 900 million children in India who go to school without having anywhere to even <keyword id="387262" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="WASH">wash</keyword> their hands.

Hence, <keyword id="3318755" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Trestor">Trestor</keyword> in collaboration with some <keyword id="61708" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-Bombay">IIT Bombay</keyword> students created <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Swachh-Bharat-on-a-new-high-as-BJPCountsCondoms/articleshow/51122887.cms">Swachh Machine</a> to incentivise people to participate in the mission. It is every bit as clever as it sounds!
 

	The idea: for every recyclable waste item one puts inside the machine, they will be rewarded with a digital value token called ‘trest’, which can be exchanged for 300 ml of clean drinking water. At a time when the city of Mumbai is heading towards a drought like situation, this comes as a boon.
 “Through our <keyword id="3318756" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Swachh-Machine">Swachh Machine</keyword>, we intend to inculcate a culture of cleanliness among the people of Mumbai,” said Kunal Dixit, founder of Trestor, a startup that is using the concept of bitcoin to connect the community. 

	You do not need a smartphone to receive the token, you can also take a printout of it and use it. It has been installed at IIT Bombay and the results have been remarkable.
 

	“The aim is to install it in every available public space like railway stations, bus stops, roadsides etc. We target to install 5000 machines every month by the end of 2016,” said Kunal.
 

	The machine has 3 compartments, one for bottles, one for cans and one for things which are not bottles or cans. The machine detects the waste and generates token. Though one can put non-recyclable waste too in it, one does not get any trest in return. The machine reduces the waste to one-sixth of its size. When it reaches 80% of its capacity, it sends an SMS or a voice note to the administrator. 
 

	The starting cost of one machine is Rs. 50,000. The price can go as high as Rs. 1 lakh depending on the customisation one needs.

Stressing on the need for banks to take up social causes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked banks to finance cleanliness ventures and help create one lakh 'Swachhta Entrepreneurs' in a year. 
 
“Can we create Swachhta Entrepreneurs? There is immense scope in solid waste management and water treatment," he said at a function to celebrate 60 years of ICICI group. 
 
"Within the financial sector, can we develop a new sector and give it a priority and can banks create one lakh Swachhta Entrepreneurs with the help of bank finance? Solid waste management and waste water treatment is a big business. We can create such entrepreneurs by training and giving finance to our youth. This can be a sustainable in the long-term," he added. 
 The Prime Minister also dedicated an '<keyword id="2667831" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ICICI-Digital-Village">ICICI Digital Village</keyword>' to the nation. The digital village has been developed by ICICI bank, which has adopted the village in Gujarat. 
 Modi had launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ on October 2, 2014 to fulfil the <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword>'s dream of Clean India.

PM Narendra Modi Asks Banks To Finance 1 Lakh 'Swachhta Entrepreneurs'

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/46233101.cms" /> In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s <keyword id="6361202" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Bharat">Swachh Bharat</keyword> Abhiyaan, this year’s Rail Budget will focus on cleanliness and financial viability of Indian <keyword id="6360676" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railways">Railways</keyword>, as per a report by The Economic Times (ET). In his maiden Budget, Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> is expected to take measures to improve the financial health of Indian Railways. 
 
According to the ET report, Prabhu is likely to announce a number of measures to promote cleanliness, which may include coverage of more trains under on-board housekeeping services (OBHS), building bio-toilets and providing dustbins in all coaches. Moreover, he may also introduce some measures to improve facilities at stations. 
 
The budget this year will also consider problems faced by visually challenged passengers as the railway minister is expected to come up with a proposal to provide Braille signs at stations. 
 
However, due to the poor financial health of the railways, there is less probability of any big announcement this year. Currently, Indian Railways faces the challenge to generate funds worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore to finance about 300 projects. 
 
In addition to this, the ministry also plans to raise funds from Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme, state governments and the corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme.

Rail Budget 2015 to run on Swachh Bharat track

In an exclusive interview to Business Insider’s Manish Kumar, senior AAP leader <keyword id="6354681" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manish-Sisodia">Manish Sisodia</keyword> dismissed Congress as a “finished party” and said that <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> is faceless in the state. 	The Delhi Assembly elections are likely to be held in February-March next year. What would be Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) strategy in this election? What would be the key issues on which you will attack the BJP and the Congress? 
	Congress is a finished party. It has only done kukarm (bad deeds) wherever it got power. People have started hating Congress. It’s not about disliking it. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been trying to fill this gap. But if you talk about Delhi, BJP is too scared in Delhi. I am not saying this as an opponent of the BJP. I am saying this on the basis of facts. If you see the recent elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, none of the states had a viable option to the BJP. Hence, it fought the elections with full confidence. But it Delhi, it had been dilly-dallying on holding the elections. But now they have no option. This is for the first time that it has asked its MPs to come to Delhi and work here. It did not do so in Maharashtra and Haryana elections. This is because BJP is afraid of losing in Delhi. That is why it is deploying its 300 MPs in Delhi. 
	 
 

	Will the Jan Lok Pal Bill continue to remain in your agenda?

	Jan Lokpal, honest governance and strict action against those who indulge in corruption have been our planks and will always be. Hum hain hi isliye. Had any other party worked honestly, we would not have entered in politics. They forced us to join politics. Otherwise, I would have been pursuing my career in journalism. 
	 
	 

	Corruption has almost become a way of life. You can’t even get a driving license without paying bribe. If you promise to make Delhi like Shanghai, New York or Singapore, it has no meaning for a common man. It is just a political gimmick. For a person who is planning to open a shop, what matters to him is that he does not have to pay bribe for this. Everybody has a certain expectation from this city, and it is very important to meet these expectations. People want such education system where they do not have to run from pillar to post for their children’s admission… they are not compelled to sell their land to pay heavy donations. Nobody talks about these fundamental issues. Instead, parties come up with fancy dreams… Shanghai bana denge, Singapore bana denge. Vision is not Shanghai; vision is living. 
	 
	 

	The vote share of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swelled from 33% in the last year’s Assembly election to 46% in this year’s Lok Sabha election. On the other hand, AAP's vote share increased to just 33% from 29%. How will you overcome this huge difference? That was due to the Modi wave. People wanted to elect <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>. But this time, people are not going to elect Modi. 
	 
	 

	In case of another hung Assembly even after fresh elections, would you accept or extend support to either BJP or Congress? 
	 

	We never think haar gaye to kya karenge. We only focus on jeet gaye to kya karenge. This is our philosophy. 
	 
	 

	I am not talking about losing the election. My question to you is about hung Assembly. 
	 

	That may be your perception. For us, anything less than 36 seats would mean losing the election. 
	 
	 

	Will you play the role of a constructive opposition if you don’t manage to win 36 seats? 
	 

	We don’t think on this line. This is not our philosophy. You are forcing me to think on this line. 
	 
	 

	Many leaders like Shazia Ilmi, MS Dhir etc. have ditched AAP. How do you think this would impact the party’s prospects? Does it not demoralise workers and volunteers? 
	 

	Can you name five leaders who were effective in AAP and left the party? (We named four: Shazia Ilmi, MS Dhir, Captain Gopinath and Maulana Qasmi, and this is how he responded) Maulana Qasmi was a member of India Against Corruption. He was caught spying red-handed and was thrown out. I am questioning the media, which is portraying that AAP toot-phoot rahi hai (AAP is disintegrating.) Can anyone from the media name five influential leaders who quit the party? I am throwing an open challenge to all mediapersons. The picture that the media is painting is that AAP mein bhagdad machi hai... leaders are flocking away from the party. 
	 
	 

	The Narendra Modi government has just completed six months. What is your take on his stint in power so far? 
	 

	He speaks very well. When he talks, it seems things are going to change. But when it comes to implementation, not even a single inch has moved. Delhi is just under Modi’s nose. In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), you have to pay bribe to get your work done. Like I said earlier, you can’t get even a driving license without kickback. 
	 
	 

	Modi started the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan with great fanfare. It was a good initiative which we too supported. But his own party leaders were caught committing fraud in the name of safai. Has he taken any action against them? No. Has he taken any action against the councillors who are not doing their job? No. So, when it comes to delivery, not a single inch has moved forward. 
	 
	 

	How do you view the Modi government’s efforts with regard to bringing back the <keyword id="6356023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Black-Money">black money</keyword> stashed abroad? 
	 

	During his election campaign, Modi used to say that there is so much black money that if it comes to the country, every person would get Rs 15-20 lakh. In a stark contradiction to that, when he talks about black money in his ‘Man Ki Baat’ programme, he says that he has no idea how much black money is there. Then why was he lying about giving Rs 15-20 lakh to every person? This is the biggest lie. Or maybe he is lying now under the pressure of black money owners. Either he was lying before the election or he is lying now. Both of his statements cannot be true. 
	 
	 

	How much impact will Modi’s personality cult have on Assembly elections in Delhi? 
	 

	Of course, personality cult is a fact. But ultimately, what runs the life of people is governance. A person may speak well or look very good, but he needs to deliver too. 
	 
	 

	In Maharashtra and Haryana, if the BJP did not have any face, its opposition had corrupt faces… most hated, most rejected faces. The situation is same in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. But this is not so in Delhi. Here, there is a face and people have an alternative to the BJP.
