New Delhi, May 4 () Auto stocks on Monday plunged up to 12.5 per cent after top carmakers, including Maruti Suzuki reported zero monthly domestic sales for the first time ever in April after the nationwide lockdown halted output and shut sales network. Shares of Motherson Sumi Systems plummeted 12.51 per cent, Tata Motors tanked 9.88 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India 8.75 per cent, Apollo Tyres 7.69 per cent and Hero MotoCorp 7.61 per cent on the BSE. Bajaj Auto dropped 7.12 per cent, Eicher Motors 6.45 per cent, Ashok Leyland tumbled 5.73 per cent, TVS Motor Company 5.20 per cent and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra 2.66 per cent. The BSE Auto index fell by 6.88 per cent. Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and MG Motor India reported nil sales as they suspended operations even before the imposition of lockdown on March 25, to check the spread of coronavirus. Maruti Suzuki, which produces more than half of the cars running on Indian roads, said it did not sell any vehicle in the domestic market in April. Homegrown automaker M&amp;M also reported zero sales of passenger and commercial vehicles in the domestic market. In two-wheeler segment, niche bike maker Royal Enfield said it had zero sales in the domestic market. Bajaj Auto on Monday said it did not sell any two-wheelers or commercial vehicles in the domestic market in April. "So why did <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=suzuki">Suzuki</a> fire its entire Marketing and Sales team in India?", a journalist asked with a smile. "Why don't you ask Atul? Maybe the rumours were true!", he laughed. 	Business Insider sat down with Masayoshi to discuss Suzuki, competition and its iconic <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=hayabusa">Hayabusa</a>:

	What's the way forward for Suzuki in India?

	India is a very important market. I'd like to concentrate more on the big motorcycle segment, much like many European and American markets.

	What would drive Suzuki's growth in India?

	Definitely not Super-bikes. The affordable premium segment, and scooters primarily.

	What caused the shift to racier motorcycles?

	The Gixxer. The design was unlike earlier motorcycles. Very sporty. Younger people in India love the power.

	Suzuki's current India market share.

	I'm not worried so much about market share. After all, we only have an 8 year history here. My priority is to make the company profitable first. We achieved it this fiscal.

	Why did you decide to assemble the <keyword id="171930" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hayabusa">Hayabusa</keyword> in India?

	If we assemble it here rather than ship a CBU unit, the price goes down. That was the intention.

	What hike in sales do you expect for the Hayabusa?

	I expect around 1.5 times hike in terms of volume.

	Any plans to make the Hayabusa in India?

	None whatsoever. The Hayabusa is our flagship model, and we can't afford to have quality issues with parts.

	Can Suzuki be like a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=maruti">Maruti </a>for Motorbikes?

	Not till Bajaj, TVS and Honda are there in the segment.

'Expect 1.5 times sales hike for Hayabusa in India' : Suzuki MD

<ul><li>The Indian auto industry is going through one of its worst phases with a 10-month slowdown in sales.</li><li><keyword id="6357252" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hero-MotoCorp">Hero MotoCorp</keyword> has joined <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>, <keyword id="6357096" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-Mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> and <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> to halt production due to lack of demand. </li><li>The first quarter results of most auto companies saw falling sales and thus, declining profits.</li></ul>The Indian auto industry has been in a downward spiral with <keyword id="47168" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Car-sales">car sales</keyword> for over 10 months now resulting in companies halting production. The two-wheeler market has been affected as well. As proof, Hero MotoCorp has become the latest automaker to halt manufacturing. The country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer said that its facilities will be closed for four days (August 15 to 18) because of the “demand scenario”. Its sales declined by 12.2% in the first quarter of FY 20 to 616,526. "The overall economic and customer sentiments continued to be soft during the first quarter of this fiscal and their impact is clearly visible in the performance of the auto sector. The outlook for the rest of the year will be dependent on multiple factors, including the progress of monsoon and festive season offtake, as well as improvement in liquidity,” Niranjan Gupta, Chief Financial Officer, Hero MotoCorp had then said. Earlier this month, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra in a regulatory filing said that as part of aligning its production with sales, it would be observing ''No Production Days'' ranging between 8 - 14 days in the second quarter of FY 20. Another auto giant Tata Motors too <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/automakers-cut-production-to-align-with-tapering-market-demand-119080901294_1.html">confirmed</a> that it is aligning production with the low demand. India’s largest auto manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki has cut production for six months in a row. It announced that it has cut production by 25% in July. Maruti Suzuki’s profits fell by 27.3%. It total sales for the first quarter of FY20 fell by 17.9% as compared to the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, Tata Motors’ cumulative income which includes Jaguar Land Rover, included drop by 20%.

Hero MotoCorp, Tata, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki are all cutting production as there’s no demand

New Delhi, Mar 1 () Taiwanese tyre major Maxxis Group is betting big on India, where it plans to build up to five factories, as it expects the country to play a crucial role in its chase to become a top five global player by 2025, according to a senior company official. The company, which clocked revenue of around USD 4 billion in 2019, is currently the world's 9th largest tyre brand and sees India along with Indonesia to play significant part in meeting its 2025 target. The company is investing USD 400 million on its first manufacturing plant at Sanand in Gujarat, where it is working to hike output to 60,000 units of two-wheeler tyres per day from the current 20,000 units a day, as part of the project's phase I expansion. "Maxxis has a group goal of growing into the top five globally in next five years. We have accomplished much in East Asia, Southeast Asia and have significant presence in Europe and in American market. "The next major international markets for us will be two places -- one is India and the another Indonesia, the major two-wheeler markets in the world," Maxxis India Marketing Head Bing-Lin Wu told . He further said, "in achieving the group goal of 2025, India will play a pivotal role. We have estimated a certain output from the Indian market alone that will help us to achieve that target. On backward calculations four or five production units will be the minimum requirement to achieve that." When asked about investments and timeline for setting up these plants, he said, "we will start a discussion very soon." Also, he said the investments on the new plants would be comparably lesser than on its first plant at Sanand where the company has already made "some heavy advanced investments" on machinery for processes such as mixing, vulcanising and calendering and the "capacity of one machine is so huge that it can supply to six to seven production lines". "In the subsequent plants, we will try to make an optimisation between our investments and utilising the current capacity of our Sanand plant," Wu said. At present, Maxxis India supplies two-wheeler tyres to Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha and Suzuki from its Sanand plant, while it supplies four-wheeler tyres to Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Jeep. Commenting on Sanand plant expansion, Lu said, "we have used half of the land (106 acres) we got from the Gujarat government for the planned 60,000 units capacity. The other half of the land, we are still deciding whether to put another 60,000 units capacity of two-wheeler or we are going to put four-wheeler tyre production." Maxxis has set a target of garnering 15 per cent of two-wheeler tyre market in India by 2023. Lu said the company expects the Indian market to grow to around 10 crore units of two-wheeler tyres per year and if the company achieves its target of 15 per cent market share "we will more or less utilise the entire capacity of our Gujarat plant and anything beyond will require expansion of production in India". On four-wheeler tyre segment, he said the group's 2025 target and expectations from India are pinned on both two and four-wheeler tyres segment "but volume-wise, definitely two-wheeler tyres in India has more advantage than four-wheeler tyre business". When asked about growth prospects for 2020, Lu said Maxxis expects to continue with its growth momentum from last year, despite the automobile industry suffering a downturn as it was able to enhance its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) business share. "I will say we are still in a position to aim at high growth given that we're going to have even higher share in the existing partnership and we are looking at multiple projects simultaneously with OE (original equipment) partners," he said. The total passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealers rose to 3,31,278 units last month compared to 2,93,303 units in April 2022. Market leader Maruti Suzuki India dispatched 1,37,320 units to dealers last month against 1,21,995 units in April last year. Hyundai Motor India, on the other hand, sold 49,701 units in April compared to 44,001 units in the year-ago period. Similarly, two-wheeler dispatches last month increased by 15 per cent to 13,38,588 units from 11,62,582 units a year ago. <keyword id="17392672" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="motorcycle-wholesales" source="Orion">Motorcycle wholesales</keyword> rose to 8,39,274 units last month from 7,35,360 units in April 2022. Similarly, scooter dispatches rose to 4,64,389 units in April against 3,88,442 units in the year-ago period. The total three-wheeler sales rose to 42,885 units last month from 20,997 units in April 2022. "All the segments, passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers have posted growth in April 2023, compared to April 2022, which clearly indicates that the industry has been able to transit very smoothly to BSVI Phase 2 emission norms from April 1 2023," Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) President <keyword id="230167" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vinod-aggarwal" source="Orion">Vinod Aggarwal</keyword> stated. As the industry gradually gets into the monsoon season, among other factors, good rainfall can also help the sector sustain its growth, he added. Passenger vehicle dispatches rise 13% in April as demand remained robust: SIAM

New Delhi: <keyword id="6359783" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bajaj-Auto">Bajaj Auto</keyword> has emerged as the worst performer in two-wheeler sales in FY14, followed by <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Motorcycles and TVS. The home grown company's sales dipped 14 per cent at 20, 99230 units compared to 2463863 units in the previous fiscal year, according to the data released by Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers. 
 The overall two-wheelers industry registered a growth of 7.31 percent during April-March 2014 (FY14) over April-March 2013. <keyword id="6358511" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bajaj">Bajaj</keyword> Auto has been hit badly and one of reasons is that it has exited the buoyant scooter segment. 
 The scooter segment surged 23.24 percent and motorcycle sales gone up 3.91 percent in the above mentioned comparative period. Bajaj Auto's maker's <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> slipped to 14.18 percent in FY14 compared to 17.86 percent in the previous fiscal year. 
 <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSIL) established itself as the biggest gainer (among top 5 players) as company's sales stood at 3558407 units in FY14 compared to 2606841 units in the previous fiscal resulting into a surge of 36.5 percent. 
 
While HMSIL's market share also increased to 24 percent in FY14 experiencing a gain of 5 percentage points compared to the previous fiscal. HMSIL also continued its dominance in the scooter segment clinching a market share of 52 percent in FY14 from 48 percent in FY13. 
 
Country's largest two-wheeler maker by volume, Hero MotorCorp has recorded a growth of 3.43 percent at 6115197 units in FY14 against 5,912,538 units in the previous fiscal. However, it's markets share slightly contracted in this fiscal by around one percent at 41.30 percent compared to 42.85 percent in the previous financial year. 
 <keyword id="2210143" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="HeroMotorCorp">HeroMotorCorp</keyword> also increased its market share in the scooter segment to 25.51 percent in FY14 compared to 19.15 percent in the previous fiscal year. 
 Hero MotorCorp's motorcycles' sales gone up by marginal one percent in FY14 against the number two in two-wheeler segment <keyword id="121221" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="HMSI">HMSI</keyword> recording a growth of 39 percent. While in scooter segment the growth was 25.51 and 33.99 percent for Hero MotorCorp and HMSIL respectively in FY14. 
 
TVS also could not prevent itself from slipping into south region, though marginally, its sales fell by one percent at 356319 units in FY14 over 414144 units in the FY13. 
 
Suzuki Motorcycles' sales also went down by 13 percent at 356319 units in FY14 compared to 414144 units in the previous fiscal year. Its market share has also slipped to 2.4 percent from 3 percent in the previous fiscal year. 
 
Yamha Motor India recorded second highest growth of 33.5 percent in FY14 at 484492 units compared to 362843 units in the previous financial year. Market share of the Japanese two-wheeler maker has gone up to 3.27 percent in FY14 compared to 2.6 percent in FY13.
