The country's largest carmaker is looking to strengthen the production of high selling utility vehicles while curtailing the roll out of the entry level cars. "Diverging <keyword id="6358993" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="demand" source="Orion">demand</keyword> patterns between utility vehicles and the small car segment is continuing. The company is working on increasing the flexibility in operations to produce vehicles as per the evolving market demand," Maruti Suzuki India Executive Officer Corporate Affairs Rahul Bharti said in an analyst call. He noted that the automaker has discovered that one of the reasons for the recent dip in the margins is because it was producing "some slow-moving cars". "And we did not have sufficient production <keyword id="6390515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capacity" source="Orion">capacity</keyword> for the cars that had demand. If we had the flexibility of both, whether it is semiconductor supplies or in-house production, we would probably have less of such a problem," Bharti said. Hence, it's a conscious move to increase the flexibility of production operations, he added. MSI currently has an installed production capacity of around 23 lakh units per annum spread across its plants in Haryana and Gujarat. Bharti said the initiative "comes at a small cost" as it involves a slightly suboptimal format of production. Elaborating on the drop in <keyword id="6357824" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sales" source="Orion">sales</keyword> of the entry level cars, he noted that the cost of acquisition has gone up disproportionately because of the increased regulatory intensity in the past few years. "And the income of the customer in this segment has not taken off. We are hoping that sooner or later, the income growth will catch up, and the small car segment will revive," he added. Bharti noted that the company has also seen reduction in first-time buyers. "...almost a 10 per cent reduction in the percentage of first-time buyers from the market for us. So, it's closely correlated. We are hoping that when the income growth in this segment of the population catches up with the increased cost, and the regulatory intensity does not move up further in the next few years, at some point in time, this segment should come back," he stated. According to the recent SIAM data, entry level car wholesales in India have dropped to 35,000 units in the second quarter this fiscal as compared to the peak of 1.38 lakh cars in July-September 2018-19. Replying to a query regarding overseas shipments, Bharti said that going ahead the company plans a three-fold rise in its exports volume by increasing its exports to 7.5 lakh to 8 lakh units a year by 2030-31. MSI continues to be the largest exporter of cars from India. "Our focus continues to be on Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and even the Middle East. Barring the US and China, we will be almost everywhere," Bharti said.

The brokerage expects a slight uptick in demand for two-wheelers during the month on account of festivals and a low base of the previous year. However, concerns about weakness in the rural markets could drag down the overall numbers. Although the inventory level has increased to 25-30 days in March versus 20-25 days till February end, it has now come back to the normal level after three years,” the brokerage said. Sports utility vehicles (SUV) continue to be in demand, with waiting periods still being long. For instance, M&amp;M’s popular duo of SUVs, the Scorpio-N and XUV 700 have a waiting period of 3-10 months, and 2-5 months, respectively. No festive cheer for auto cos in March: PV sales ‘flattish’, 2Ws to see a slight uptick

Passenger car major <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India Ltd had transported over 3.2 lakh vehicles in 2022 through Indian Railway and is setting up dedicated railway sidings at its facilities in Haryana (Manesar) and Gujarat, said a top company official. The company last year transported over 3.2 lakh vehicles using rail wagons, the highest in a calendar year since 2013 when the company got the Automobile Freight Train Operator (AFTO) license. "Going forward, we aim to further increase these numbers. For this, we are setting up dedicated railway sidings at our facilities in Haryana (Manesar) and Gujarat," <keyword id="13455711" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hisashi-takeuchi" source="Orion">Hisashi Takeuchi</keyword>, Managing Director &amp; CEO, said. "Aligned with the Government of India's aim to reach net zero emissions by 2070, we have enhanced our efforts to reduce carbon footprint in our business operations. Our strategy to increase the use of rail mode in outbound logistics has resulted in dispatching record 3.2 lakh vehicles using railways in CY2022," he said. According to him, the use of railway wagons instead of trucks has resulted in offsetting around 1,800 MT of CO2 emissions. "In addition, we have been able to save over 50 million litres of fuel during the year which contributes to enhancing the energy security of our country," <keyword id="333559" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="takeuchi" source="Orion">Takeuchi</keyword> remarked. The share of railways in carrying Maruti Suzuki's cars is on the rise and last calendar year it was 17.1 per cent up from 13.9 per cent/2.2 lakh units in 2021. The AFTO license allows Maruti Suzuki to fabricate and operate high speed, high capacity autowagon rakes on the Indian Railways network. Maruti Suzuki uses 40 specially designed railway rakes to transport vehicles across the country. Each rake has a capacity to carry over 300 vehicles. Maruti Suzuki to increase transport of cars through rail wagons, to set up dedicated railway sidings

The company said that the increase in prices shall vary for different models. “Over the past year, the cost of company's vehicles continue to be adversely impacted due to increase in various input costs. Therefore, it has become imperative for the company to pass on some impact of the above additional costs to customers through a price hike,” said the company in a BSE statement. Rise in fuel prices, commodity prices like steel, shortage of semiconductors and a possible third wave that could impact demand and production operations are some of the factors affecting the automobile industry. The company had announced price hikes in March, July and September this year. Adding to the pain, Maruti Suzuki’s production slipped 3% to 1.45 lakh vehicles in November 2021 as compared to 1.50 lakh vehicles in November 2020. Further, the company is expecting an adverse impact on vehicle production in December in both Haryana and its contract manufacturing company, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG) in Gujarat. All this is because of a supply constraint of electronic components due to the semiconductor shortage situation. Maruti cars to cost you more from January next year

The country's largest carmaker <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India (MSI) witnessed a massive over two-fold drop in <keyword id="22637" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production" source="Orion">production</keyword> last month owing to the shortage of semiconductor chips. In a regulatory filing, the auto major reported total production of 81,278 units in September as compared with 1,66,086 units in September 2020. "Production volume of the company in September 2021 was affected due to electronic components shortage," it noted. MSI said total passenger vehicle production stood at 77,782 units last month, as against 1,61,668 units in September 2020. Production of <keyword id="913938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mini-cars" source="Orion">mini cars</keyword> comprising Alto and S-Presso models stood at 17,163 units last month as against 30,492 units a year ago. Similarly, manufacturing of compact cars, comprising WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire, declined to 29,272 units from 90,924 units earlier, MSI said. Production of utility vehicles -- Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6 -- dropped to 21,873 units last month from 26,648 units in the corresponding month of 2020. The company also reported a drop in the production of its Eeco van at 8,025 units last month as compared with 11,183 units in September 2020. MSI said production of its light commercial vehicle Super Carry stood at 3,496 units last month, as against 4,418 units in the year-ago month. MSI had reported a 8 per cent drop in total production in August on a yearly basis at 1,13,937 units. On August 31, the auto major had announced that it expects total vehicle production in September across its plants in <keyword id="41646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Haryana" source="Orion">Haryana</keyword> and Gujarat to be just 40 per cent of the normal output due to the semiconductor shortage. The company's production capacity at Gurgaon and Manesar plants in Haryana is around 15 lakh units per annum. Besides, Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Japan's <keyword id="100743" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki-motor-corporation" source="Orion">Suzuki Motor Corporation</keyword>, has an additional installed production capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum. SMG supplies cars exclusively to MSI. Semiconductors are silicon chips that cater to control and memory functions in products ranging from automobiles, computers and cell phones to various other electronic items. The usage of semiconductors in the auto industry has gone up globally in recent times with new models coming with more and more electronic features such as Bluetooth connectivity and driver-assist, navigation and hybrid-electric systems. Maruti Suzuki reports over two-fold dip in production in September

<keyword id="100743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor-Corporation">Suzuki Motor Corporation</keyword> (SMC) expects India to grow into the third-biggest car market in the world by 2020 and is "determined" to play a big part in that growth, as per a <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword> news report. 
 The company, whose arm <keyword id="6365618" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki-India">Maruti Suzuki India</keyword> commands nearly 50 per cent of the passenger vehicle market in the country, has already started operations at its new plant in <keyword id="6354766" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> as part of the plan to raise its total production to 2 million units by 2020. 
 "India is expected to grow into the third-biggest car market in the world by 2020 and we are determined to play a big part in that growth," said <keyword id="3506215" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kinji-Saito">Kinji Saito</keyword>, Executive General Manager and Managing Officer (Global Automotive Operations), <keyword id="111052" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor">Suzuki Motor</keyword> Corporation, at the <keyword id="239437" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Geneva-Motor-Show">Geneva Motor Show</keyword> here. 
 He said that in India, <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> has been the market leader for decades, with nearly 50 per cent share. 
 
The company plans to introduce more new products in India even as it gears up to meet additional demand by increasing its production capacity. 
 "In fact, we started operations at a new plant last month on the way to increasing our total capacity in India to two million units," <keyword id="3463140" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="saito">Saito</keyword> added. 
 The Gujarat plant is envisaged to have an installed capacity of 7.5 lakh units annually. <keyword id="6392170" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MSI">MSI</keyword>'s two units at <keyword id="6356789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gurugram">Gurugram</keyword>, earlier known as Gurgaon, and Manesar have a total production capacity of 1.5 million units annually. 
 <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India (MSI) is accelerating product introductions with an eye to strengthen its hold in the Indian market. As part of its 2020 target, the company had earlier said it would bring in 15 models by then. 
 
In the next fiscal, MSI plans to introduce four new products. It has has been bringing about two new products each year in the past couple of years. 
 
The company will launch the all-new third generation Swift, which was unveiled here, in India in the spring of 2018. It is also gearing up for the upgraded version of its premium crossover S-Cross later this year. 
 
In April to February this fiscal, MSI has sold around 13 lakh units. 
 
Globally, SMC sold 2.9 million units 2016, Saito said.

 The Hansalpur-based facility in Gujarat is the <keyword id="105479" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor-Corp">Suzuki Motor Corp</keyword>'s first wholly-owned unit in India. 
 "The whole project (Gujarat) is on schedule. We will be selling cars from made in Gujarat from February. That remains, there is no change in that. During this financial year about 10,000 cars from Gujarat will be produced and delivered to us for sale," MSI Chairman R C <keyword id="18837" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhargava">Bhargava</keyword> said. 
 
Suzuki has envisaged a total investment of around USD 1,400 million on the plant which will house two vehicle assembly lines of 2.5 lakh units per annum each and an engine plant. It will roll out Baleno from the first assembly line. 
 Suzuki will supply vehicles and components exclusively to MSI from the plant. India is the biggest markfor Suzuki, which owns 56 per cent of <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India - the country's biggest automaker controlling nearly half of the market. 
 MSI's two units at Gurgaon and <keyword id="47707" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manesar">Manesar</keyword> have a total production capacity of 1.5 million units annually.

Maruti Suzuki might get an investment of 100 billion yen for a new production line

The car manufacturing giant, <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> has decided to invest an added Rs 2000 crore at its state-of-the-art research and development centre in <keyword id="49507" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="rohtak">Rohtak</keyword>, Haryana over the next three years. 
 "We have already sup test tracks at Rohtak. Majority of the testing for the Brezza was done in India. We are going to invest another Rs 2000 crore to augment capability further at Rohtak by 2019. This would take the company's total investment at Rohtak to Rs 3800 crore,” C V Raman, executive director (engineering), <keyword id="756155" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki-India-Limited">Maruti Suzuki India Limited</keyword> (MSIL), told ET.

Maruti Suzuki to invest another Rs 2000 crore in R&D

The country's largest carmaker <keyword id="6365618" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki-india">Maruti Suzuki India</keyword> (MSI) on Monday reported a 86.23% decline in total sales at 18,539 units in May. The company had sold 1,34,641 units in May last year, MSI said in a statement. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="76059432" title="The plight of India’s largest car maker causes Japanese giant Suzuki’s first revenue decline in three years" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> Domestic sales declined by 88.93% to 13,888 units last month, as against 1,25,552 units in May 2019, it added. The company exported 4,651 units last month, down 48.82 per cent from 9,089 units in May 2019, MSI said. The auto major said it has resumed manufacturing operations post lockdown, strictly in accordance with the government regulations and guidelines, from May 12 at its <keyword id="47707" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manesar">Manesar</keyword> facility and from May 18 at its Gurugram facility. Production also resumed at <keyword id="6911" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Motor Gujarat, which manufactures cars on a contract basis for MSI, from May 25, it added. Likewise, the company said its showrooms have also started opening in accordance with centre and state guidelines in a graded manner across different cities. In the wake of regulatory norms in place, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Maruti+Suzuki+">Maruti Suzuki</a> India is hoping that the delayed minority shareholders' voting would happen soon. 
 
The crucial voting could allow parent Suzuki to own and invest in the Gujarat plant. The minority shareholder voting was delayed because the country’s largest carmaker found that the government had moved some amendments in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=2013+Companies+Act">2013 Companies Act</a>. 
 “We thought it would be imprudent of us to vote on under an Act which is under an amendment. So, we postponed that," <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India Chairman RC Bhargava said, addressing shareholders at the company's annual general meeting in New Delhi. 
 As the Act was under amendment, other people who had to make changes, including <keyword id="6378893" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="market-regulator">market regulator</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Securities+and+Exchange+Board+of+India+%28SEBI%29+">Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)</a> and the <keyword id="6370685" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gujarat-Government">Gujarat government</keyword>, held back their actions, he said. <keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword> has now taken note of change in the law and amended the listing requirements. 
 
He said: "We expect that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gujarat+government">Gujarat government</a>'s action would also be completed possibly in the next one week or ten days. After that we will come to all of you to vote in the support of the project." 
 The company had initially planned to set up a third plant in Gujarat to meet growing demand. However, in January last year, parent <keyword id="100743" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Suzuki-Motor-Corporation">Suzuki Motor Corporation</keyword> announced it would invest $488 million to build the Gujarat plant. 
 Opposing the move, Maruti's institutional investors approached SEBI, seeking its intervention to safeguard the interests of minority shareholders. Private sector <keyword id="6357979" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="mutual-funds">mutual funds</keyword> and insurance companies, which own almost 7% of the company, led the opposition. 
 
Later, Maruti decided to seek the approval of minority shareholders after tweaking some of the earlier proposals for the Gujarat plant, which SMC had decided to take over. 
 
Highlighting the importance of the Gujarat plant in the company's scheme of things, Bhargava said: "This year if we grow in double digits our capacity utilisation will become almost 100%. We will be producing over 1.4 million vehicles during this fiscal." 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gurgaon+">Gurgaon</a> and Manesar plants put together (1.5 million units annually) don't have much more capacity left after that, he added. 
 
"Certainly in 2016-17 we hope that we will somehow manage. In 2017-18 we will need the Gujarat plant. Work is going on the plant at full swing and we will be on schedule to commission the plant," he said. 
 
The Gujarat plant is envisaged to have a total installed capacity of 7.5 lakh units annually. It is expected to be operational by May 2017.
